  • Connections for 15 year old daughter - please advise
    Oct 1, 2014
I live in Rochester NY and my 15 year old daughter is on a flight on Saturday december 20th at 18.11 from ROC to JFK terminal 2 arriving 19.38 with Delta (40% on time flight!?) then she has to make her way to terminal 4 for a Virgin flight departing at 21.30. With the short layover, terminal change and notoriously late regional Delta partner this is a unlikely connection right. Btw, I didn't book this, her mother in England did:(

nearly 2 hours isn't a short connection. Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security from T2 to T4.

Flying with Delta from YUL to JFK. Arriving at 8 at T2. Departing with Delta at 9.25 at T4 from JFK to MEX. Do i have enough Time between 2 flights ? Do i have to go to US customs ?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Montreal. your arrival into JFK will be like a domestic flight. Yes, you should have plenty of time. A Delta shuttle bus connects T2 and T4 inside security.

  • Terminal 4 to terminal 8

Hi - we fly Kuwait Airline LON to JFK then on to GYE, Ecuador - we have 3 hrs 25 min between flights if all goes well…will we have to recheck our bags - it is all on one ticket, but sep airlines - Kuwait then LAN. I am traveling with 4 young children and a ton of luggage so am trying to plan ahead!

You will have to claim your baggage to go through US Customs. if your bags are tagged through to GYE then you can immediately re-check them after US Customs, however if they are not, you will have to take them with you on the AirTrain to Terminal 8 and to the LAN ticket counter to re-check. You should have enough time.

Thank you, help is much appreciated - is there any way to get help with the bags as I will have 9 very big bags going through.

There are usually baggage carts to use in Customs, but you can't take them on the AirTrain if you have to take your bags there.

  • Terminal 4 to Terminal 1

I will be coming from Dubai by Emirates and will go to mexico. Emirates will arrive at 14:15 to Terminal 4 and my connecting flight to mexico is at 17:00 from Terminal 1 Aero Mexico, do I need to go through immigration check and will this time enough?

Yes, upon arrival you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US customs. if your bags are tagged through to Mexico you can then immediately re-check them at the transfer desk. If they are not, then you will have to take them with you to T1 to check with AeroMexico. You will get your Aeromexico boarding pass in T1 and go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

  • Will I have enough time?

My boyfriend and I are going to Ireland and fly domestic into JFK, then leave international to Ireland. Both flights are through Delta. Will we have enough time to get through to our connecting flight? I completely disregarded the time for customs when booking

You will go through Irish immigration and customs when you get to Ireland. You do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. How much time do you have and where are you flying in from?

A little more than an hour. We are flying LAX-JFK-DUB

Yes, you should be OK and both of your flights will be in Terminal 4.

  • Enough time?
    Sep 29, 2014
We have a 1hr 10 min layover at JFK and will need to go from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4. Both are Delta airlines and we are wondering if there is enough time to get our connection. Do we have to get bags? Through security again? THANKS!

No, you will not have to collect your baggage and if you take the Shuttle bus between terminals, you will not have to go through security.

I'm planning to fly from SFO to JFK and then JFK to LHR (london) on Virgin America then Virgin Atlantic. Virgin flies in and out of Terminal 4. The layover time if 55 minutes. It looks like I will be landing and departing from the same terminal, but will I have to go through security again? Will 55 minutes be enough? Thanks!

No, you will not have to go through security. That should be enough time.

    Thank you for your help1

  • What tro do in a 7 hr layover between terminal 2 and 4...?
    Sep 28, 2014
We are coming in on Delta at 2:30 pm Terminal 2 we have to get our bags and then get on train to terminal 4..are there carts to help us? We then have to recheck bags at Emirates checkin and go thru security--is there any place to go in Terminal 4 to hang out?

T4 is the largest of the JFK terminals - which recently added a lot of restaurants & shops. The Xpress Spa is located at post-security gates A2, A4, B24 B25.

  • Transfer from T8 to T5 with separate tickets
    Sep 27, 2014
Hi, arriving from Helsinki to JFK T8 with Finnair at 3:50pm and have a connection to TPA with JetBlue, apparently from T5, at 7:36pm. I'm a Finnish citizen, tickets are bought separately and I am travelling with a cabin pet (dog). Do I still have enough transfer time with immigration, customs etc and time to take my dog to a pet relief area ? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Getting a Little Nervous about the Time Frame!
    Sep 26, 2014
My family is arriving at terminal 2 from Buffalo at 7:30 with a connecting flight from the same terminal at 8:10. Both flights were booked through Delta, but the first is operated by Endeavor Air. Will our Luggage be transferred by the airline? I have always flown direct before. As the boarding time is the same as my landing time I am concerned.

Yes, the airline will transfer the luggage. Yes, that should be enough time if the first flight is on-time.

  • 1hr transition at JFK from T8 to T7
    Sep 26, 2014
We have a 1hr layover at JFK to transition from T8 to T7. We will be transitioning from a domestic flight, American Airlines, to an international flight, Iberian airlines, heading to Madrid. Has anyone experienced something similar. Any suggestions/tips.

That should be enough time. Your bags will be checked through to Madrid. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from T8 to T7, go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

    Thank you

  • Jan flight from Israel need to connect to flight to SFO
    Sep 24, 2014
I'm arriving on Jan 19 2015 from Israel - am a US citizen, need to catch a flight to SFO. How much time should I allow for customs, baggage pickup, and getting to the domestic terminal so I won't miss my next flight

What airlines are you flying? Will you be purchasing tickets separately or together?

Flying in on Aeroflot, need to buy separate ticket to OAK. I need to know how much time to allow myself between arrival and departure

Since you are buying separate tickets I would budget at least 2.5 hours between flights.

    Thank you!

  • Changing Terminals with C1 Transit visa
    Sep 22, 2014
Hello All, My wife is travelling Bangkok - Haiti, she has the C1 Transit visa already. However she will arrive with Emirates into Terminal 4, and will leave from a different terminal. How it is possible to change terminals with this visa? Thank you, James.

You show the visa to get through US Immigration. When she exits customs she will be outside security and free to go wherever she wants. They monitor visa compliance by checking to see if she boarded her onward flight to Haiti.
