Hello I'm flying with my family at middle of July from Tel aviv to Jfk, and then continuing to Miami. we will be arriving to terminal 4 at JFK airport at 05:50, and the flight to Miami is from terminal 8 at 08:00, are 2 hours enough considering we have to go through customs, baggage claim, transfer, and security check?
That is barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.
Landing in JFK at 3:44 p.m. from Israel and need to book a flight from JFK to Chicago. I am wondering how long I should leave between the two flights. I know I will have to go through customs, check my bags, and security, as well as spending some time on the airtrain. I was thinking three or four hours in between. Does that sound reasonable?
Yes, that sounds reasonable.
Would four hours still be enough for me to get to Laguardia for my connecting flight? It seems there are no flights leaving with a four hour window from JFK to Chicago.
That would be pushing it, especially since you'd be trying to get to LaGuardia during the worst traffic of the day.
We arrive on Delta at JFK Terminal 4 at 8:15 P,, then must get to Terminal 1 for flight via Air France, a Delta partner, at 9:50 PM. We have 1 hour and 50 mins. between flights. Luggage will be checked all the way through to Paris. From what I have read, our best bet is to take the Air Train. Am I correct in believing that at our late arrival/departure times allow us to make connections easily?
Yes, the only way is to take the airtrain. You have enough time if the first flight is on-time, but not tons of time to spare.
Thank you so much. Appreciate your quick response.
Hi, I am flying in to JFK, catching a connection with Iberia Air to Madrid. I have 3 hours between flights. Will I have to go through customs in order to board my Iberia flight? If so, how much time should I allow for this? I know I will have to change terminals. Thanks!
Where are you flying into JFK from? There is no US Customs when leaving the US.
I am flying in from Austin, TX.
If everything is on the same reservation I recommend 90-120 minutes. If it's two separate reservations I recommend 3 hours.
I have minors flying and am trying to give them detailed instructions while at airport. They fly into terminal 5, luggage will be checked all the way thru to final dest. so can they get to terminal 7 without having to go thru security? And whats the best way for them to get to terminal 7?
There is no way to get from Terminal 5 to Terminal 7 without leaving security. They will have to leave security, follow signs to the airtrain, take it to Terminal 7, walk into Terminal 7, and go through security.
Has anyone have some intimate knowledge of Terminal 1 (or Terminal 8) to help me with some ideas/pathways/etc that'd help me save few minutes here and there? I was "smart" enough to not realize my two separate tickets are not from the same alliance, so I'll have to pick my bag at Term 8, take an AirTrain to Term 1 (by the way, I believe I can go straight from 8 to 1?), pass security (I do not have TSA Pre) and drop-off my bag. So, once again, I'm probably looking for some tips, like take stairs/escalators somewhere, some short-cuts and God knows what else to save myself a bit of time :) Thank you in advance!
The train that you need to take actually goes to all the other terminals first before getting you to 1 (it goes through the terminals on reverse number order - the other train leaves the airport after getting to T8). You check your bag before going through security. There are no short cuts. You realistically need closer to 3 hours.
So no counterclockwise train? That makes it even worse :( I know, I'm taking my chances :( Thank you for your reply!
Well, there is a counter clockwise train. You just can't use it to get from Terminal 8 to 1.
If there is counter clockwise train .can we go from terminal 1 to terminal 8? thank you Zap for your help.
I am flying into JFK from Shanghai on the 30th, and have a connecting flight to Nashville. Since I bought this ticket with my frequent flyer miles, I didn't have enough miles to book a multiple destination flight. (So I have a round trip nashville to Shanghai ticket). A friend happens to be getting married in NYC that weekend. So I was wondering if it is possible for me to just not board my flight to Nashville and stay in NYC (I'd buy a later flight home, of course)? I do have checked luggage, does JFK still require that you re-check your luggage after immigration? Thank you for your help!
Yes, you will still have to claim your luggage to go through US Customs in JFK. then you can just leave the airport. You will of course forfeit any remaining flights on that ticket.
Getting to US does require you to re-check luggage. As for NY-Nashville, I'd have consulted a company you are flying with. Who knows, might be they'll re-schedule you for free? But, in all likelihood, you'll lose that leg.
