My daughter will arrive JFK from Tel Aviv (El Al) at 7:10 pm on a Tuesday. Will she have time to clear customs and make a 9:55 Jetblue flight to Tampa? Thanks

That will probably be enough time, but it will be close. She will have to take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from T4 to T5.

Thanks, she'll give it a try.

  • Moscow-JFK-Toronto connection
    Jun 28, 2013
I will travel from Moscow to JFK with Transaero, which arrives in T4. I will then have to catch a flight to Toronto with Delta from T2. Do I need to go through passport control, customs, and pick up my luggage in JFK or will I just be able to transfer without going through all of that? If I have to go through customs/passport control/pick up my luggage, how much should I allow? Thanks

Yes, you have to go through immigration, customs, and security. I would allow 2.5 hours.

I am going to be coming into JFK on LY8187 (operated by AA) to terminal 8 and have make it to terminal 4 for ElAl (LY8) flight in 2:30 hours - assuming no delays in flight. Will there be time? especially with 4 young kids. Do i need to get my bags and recheck, or go straight to terminal 4?

Yes, you should have enough time. Your bags should be checked straight through to Tel Aviv assuming you bought everything on one ticket. You just have to take the Airtrain/Air Terminals Train from T8 to T4 and go back through security, which shouldn't take more than 45-60 minutes.

  • Connecting flights
    Jun 28, 2013
Hi, I read some tips to make coincidences but now I'm not sure on relating procedure, I'm arriving in JFK (T8) with a AA flight and I'll departing from same terminal (AA flight), which is the right sequence/procedure to make connection ? Thanks!

If you are an international arrival at JFK, you need to go through passport control, pick up your bag, go through customs clearance & re-check-in your bags where indicated. If you are a domestic arrival at JFK, proceed to your connecting gate. Terminal 8 has Concourse B with gates 1-16, and Concourse C with gates 31-47. Look at overhead screens for your connecting flight number and gate, then simply follow signs.

Thanks for your feedback! It's an international arrival and connecting with a domestic departure. Just an information, after bags re-check-in, should I go through security again before to proceed at the gate ?

Yes, you will have to go through security again to get back to the gates.

Thanks, I suppose without bags because they will be released on carosello belt next to customs, do you confirm it ? Thanks again

Yes, you will re-check your bags with American after you go through customs, then you'll go to the departures level and back through security.

  • JFK Terminal A
    Jun 28, 2013
We are flying from Logan Int. to JFK on Delta. Our flight lands at Terminal A. I can't seem to find any information on this terminal. Does it have another name? Where is it in relation to Terminal 4, where we areconnecting to an international flight. How long does it take to go from Terminal A to Terrminal.4 by the airport "train"? Sorry if this question has been asked before. Any information would be appreciated.

    A isn't a terminal, it's a concourse of Terminal 4. http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/airports-and-aircraft/airports/new-york-jfk.html

Your clarification is much appreciated. Thank you?

  • restrooms before customs
    Jun 25, 2013
the map only shows restroom after security ( means flying out). does anyone know any restrooms before customs? ( when flying in)

    What terminal?

Terminal 1. and would also like to know if there is one before immigration too.

  • Help 1 hr 6 min connection
    Jun 26, 2013
I am flying from Tokyo, to Boston, to JFK arrival at 4:05 PM on Monday 8/5. I want to book a flight to Syracuse which my son is on from Jet Blue at 5:11PM. I am only bringing a carryon so no luggage. Is that enough time to make the connection? Your help is appreciated. Thank you

I forgot Im coming in American Airlines flight 1851-it doesnt show what gate/terminal yet

So you're flying on American from Boston to JFK? If you only have a carry on you could make that connection, barely, if your flight from Boston is on-time, without a checked bag. You will arrive in Terminal 8 and depart from Terminal 5. Check in online for your JetBlue flight on your phone when you're in Boston so you don't miss the check-in cutoff. If you did have a checked bag you wouldn't have enough time. Also, if you have any delays (which are quite common at JFK) you'll probably miss your connection and be stuck in New York. At least it appears that JetBlue also has a 10:45 PM flight that you might be able to get on if you miss your connection.

There may be a delta flight at 5:40 to syracuse will the extra 30 min ensure making the connections?

Nothing will "ensure" it, especially at JFK in the summer, but extra time never hurts. However, since that is Delta's only flight of the day from JFK to Syracuse, if you miss that connection you'll be spending the night in NYC (or maybe they'll send you on a taxi to LaGuardia, where they have a 10:25 PM LGA-SYR flight). Unlike JetBlue who has a later flight from JFK.

Also, that Delta JFK-SYR flight is almost always late, which in your case is a good thing.

  • Connection T8
    Jun 24, 2013
Hi, I'll arrive in JFK from Italy at 13:30 fly AA199, connection with fly AA 85 to SFO at 15:30, I'm a little bit worried to lose my fly, are there some tips to avoid it ? Thanks

"Lose my fly"? What does that mean? You should have enough time to make your connection and AA will have later flights to SFO if you miss it.

  • Time to clear customs
    Jun 23, 2013
I am arriving at 3:15 from Cairo Egypt Air, so I assume T4. I have an AA connecting flight at 5:15 from, I assume, T8. Is this enough time to clear customs and get to T8?

It should be enough time. You take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train between terminals.

  • Transit between terminals?
    Jun 25, 2013
Hi, I am travelling from Rome to New York next Monday. It's a Delta flight operated by Alitalia, and on my ticket reservation it says it will arrive at terminal 1 at JFK. On the same ticket, I have a connection to Montreal on another Delta flight, from terminal 2. The layover time is 2hr45min. can somebody confirm that terminal 1 and terminal 2 are indeed the terminals Delta uses for their flights from Rome, and to Montreal, respectively? How do I transit from terminal 1 to terminal 2? Thank you so much for your response!

Alitalia uses Terminal 1. The Delta Connection flight to Montreal will depart from Terminal 2. You use the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train to go between terminals.

Thank you so much ZAP. Your response is very useful Do I have to claim my luggage, and clear customs at JFK, before I board my next plane, to Canada? Both flights were bought on the same reservation.

Yes, you will have to do all that.

Can I re-check my luggage at the Delta Counter at Terminal 1, before i take the AirTran to Terminal 2? Where is it located?

If your bags are all checked through then you probably can use the re-check counter in Terminal 1. The Airtrain is located above the curbside of the terminals. There will be signs that direct you to it.

  • Security check from Terminal 8 to 7
    Jun 21, 2013
I am arriving in Terminal 8 (AA) and I need to get to Terminal 7 to catch a (United) flight. I have about 50mins. Can I walk? Do I have to clear security when I enter Terminal 7? I will not have any checked bags.

It's not feasible to walk between the terminals. You need to take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train one stop over to T7. Yes, you will have to go through security again. You'll have to hurry. Make sure you check in for your United flight online before you leave on your American flight. If you wait until you get to T7, you will have missed the check-in cutoff.

  • Enough time for connecting flights
    Jun 21, 2013
Arriving at terminal 7 from Los Angeles on United departing from terminal 7 to Frankfurt Germany on United I have one hour 40 minutes is that enough time

Lufthansa uses terminal 1, not Terminal 7. You'll have to take the AirTrain between terminals and hurry.

Thank you for your response, I have one hour and 49 minutes you're saying this not enough time? Also, do I have to cliam and recheck my luggage?

That should be enough time. If your tickets were bought on one reservation you should not have to claim and re-check your bags.

    Thank you...

  • Transition from Terminal 8 to 7
    Jun 19, 2013
My flight from Los Angeles (BA operated by AA) will arrive at terminal 8. I will have to catch a flight to Madrid (BA operated with Iberia) from terminal 7. Will my luggage be checked in all the way through to Madrid? How do I get from 8 to 7? Is 2h enough time for this? Thanks

'Operated by' means BA code-shares with AA - giving you the advantage of baggage transfer. To get from T8 to T7, board the 'Airplane Terminals Train' (follow signs) one stop to T7, then go through security check and on to your gate. You have plenty of time.

  • Transiting at JFK from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2 on separate carriers
    Jun 19, 2013
I'm arriving in JFK via an international flight on Emirates at 825am at Terminal 4. I have to catch a domestic flight on Delta at 11am at Terminal 2. I am going to check in my bags with Emirates. Will I be able to take the Delta shuttle bus from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2? And how will I to collect my check-in baggage from Emirates?

As an international arrival at JFK, you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags - however, if Emirates does not transfer bags to your Delta connection (check with Emirates), you would need to take your bag along to Terminal 2 and check it in there. To get from T4 to T2 - take the 'Airplane Terminals Train' which runs every 8 mins or so, to your next stop.

Actually, since your second flight is with Delta, you can just take your bags upstairs to the Delta check in counter in T4, then if your gate is in T2, just take Delta's post-security shuttle from T4 to T2.

  • Transiting SIA incoming from Frankfurt to AA outgoing to Montreal
    Jun 19, 2013
My daughter will be coming in from Singapore via Frankfurt on Singapore Air at 1105 at terminal 4 then going out on American Airlines to Montreal at 1455 at terminal 8. Will she need to pass through Immigrations, collect bags and do a security check on the way in, then check-in and repeat to leave? What is the least stressful way to do this for a 15-year old who has never travelled internationally? Thanks.

Well, she does have enough time. First she'll go through immigration in T4. Were her tickets booked on one ticket or two? If two then she should take her bags with her on the AIrTrain/Airline Terminals Train from T4 to T8 and check in with American. Note that she'll need some money to check the bag on AA if she does this. She'll then go through security and to her gate in T8. She'll hen go through Canadian immigration when she gets to Montreal.

Thanks ZAP. She is booked all on one ticket. So does that mean she will not need to collect her bags and they will be automatically transited through to Montreal for her?

No, any time you enter the US from abroad (from an airport without preclearance) you have to claim your baggage to clear customs. It just means she will likely be able to use the re-check counter in T4.
