  • Possible to meet family members between transfers
    May 7, 2014
I am flying from Dubai to Toronto wth a transfer in JFK. I will have to transfer from Terminal 4 to Terminal 7 to board the flight to Toronto. I have family in NYC, if they come to the airport, will I be able to hang out with them between transferring terminals?

Yes, you could meet them outside security in Terminal 4 and they could ride the AirTrain with you to Terminal 7.

    Thank you!

I'm arriving in JFK terminal 1 from Frankfurt (Lufthansa) at 13:00. Than I have a separate flight to Atlanta (Delta) at 16:59 from terminal 2. Will I have enough time to go through immigration and reclaim my baggage?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You can even check in for your Delta flight online before you leave Europe.

    Thank you!!

  • 1 hour transit from Dublin to Tampa--sufficient?
    May 5, 2014
We have to transit through JFK from Dublin-Tampa in early October. Cheapoair.com has lined up the ticket to be efficient time-wise (1 hr transit, catching last Jet Blue flight out) but I think this will not be sufficient time. My questions are: 1. If we get seats at the front of the plane and travel with no check-ins, will that be sufficient? 2. Is the Dublin-JFK flight generally on time? 3. Will the Aer Lingus/Jet Blue flight wait for us if we booked it all as Aer Lingus? Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

Answered my own questions--Aer Lingus will check our bags through to Tampa and we don't have to change terminals. Nice! The information is at: http://www.aerlingus.com/travelinformation/knowbeforeyoufly/newyorkjfkairport/#d.en.6382

Note that if you are late it's very unlikely they would wait for you. However, you would be booked on the next JetBlue flight to Tampa.

    Thanks. We figured as much.

  • International to domestic flight with change of terminals
    May 3, 2014
I am arriving in JFK at terminal 4 from an international flight (Delta airlines) and have a layover of 2 hours. Is it correct that I first have to go through US immigration, then I have to reclaim my baggage. So the baggage is not automatically transferred as in Europe. Then I have to proceed through customs with my baggage. Immediately afterwards there will be a boot of Delta airlines where I can re-check my baggage. After going through security, I have to go to gate B16 where I can take the bus to terminal 2. Once arrived in terminal 2 at C60, I can proceed to my gate without any delays. About the return flight: same story, but terminal 2 > terminal 4 and layover of 1h45. I suppose I won't have to reclaim my baggage because I'm leaving the US. So then arrive in terminal 2, don't claim my baggage, go through customs, don't go to the counter of delta airlines to recheck it and proceed immediately to security. Afterwards I go to gate C60 where I can take the bus to terminal 4 (B18) and proceed to my gate. Is this a correct plan or am I missing something? First time that I have a layover in the US, so I am a bit nervous and prefer to ask prior to the flight so I won't face any surprises. Thanks for your help!

International arrivals at U.S.A. need to go through passport check, pick up bags & go through customs with bags; then re-check in bags where indicated. Bags then will automatically be transferred, unless you bought separate tickets. Until 2015 when T4 will become exclusive Delta terminal, it maintains 2 terminals: T2 & T4, and therefore shuttles its passengers from gate to gate: At T4 at B23 gate, at T2 at C60. Outgoing international flights need no clearance.

Thank you for your clear answer!

Where do you get the Shuttle to go from Delta Terminal 2 to Delta Terminal 4?

    It goes fro C60 to B18 - http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/airports-and-aircraft/airports/new-york-jfk.html

    Thanks so much.

  • 55 minutes layover
    May 1, 2014
Hello, does anybody know if 55 minutes layover is going to be enough for me to get to my second flight. My first one is Chicago - JFK with Delta, and then I have 55 minutes to get to the next flight which is JFK - London Heathrow with Delta again?

Yes, it should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. You will have to take Delta's shuttle bus from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4 and then go to your departure gate. However, delays are common at JFK in the summer. If you miss your connection you will be booked on the next Delta or Virgin Atlantic flight to London.

So I wouldn't have to go through all the checks, scanners and luggage check ins again? Thank you for the information, it's much appreciated!

No, all you have to do in JFK is go from your arrival gate to departure gate.

I am traveling from CCS to BCN, with 1 stop at JFK with AA round trip I want to know if I have to go through immigration and check bags again? if I have to do it, what is the process to go from a gate to the another both routes. thanks

Yes, both ways you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and then Re-check your bags with American in JFK Terminal 8. Then you will go to the departure level, through security and to your departure gate.

  • enough time for connection ?
    Apr 30, 2014
I 'll arrive from Istanbul on Terminal 1 at 16H50 on may 3d, I have a separate ticket to connect on United Airlines 19h35 departure to Washington from Terminal 7. Is it enough ? Is there really a priority for connecting passengers at immigration? I heard something about vouchers to avoid queues? Where can I collect this voucher?

You should have plenty of time. Most terminals do not have priority for connecting passengers.

    Thanks a lot, it's a relief

  • 3.5 Hours enough to clear customs and check in bags?
    Apr 29, 2014
Hey, We have a flight arriving at 0825 from dubai and a connection on delta at 11.50. Just wondering if thus is enough time to clear customs and change terminals for the delta flight. It seems from previous responses there is but I just wanted to be sure.

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

  • time to connect
    Apr 28, 2014
hi, traveling from phx on delta to jfk , arriving at 2:59p.m., going on Brussells airline in terminal 2 at 5:55pm, will i have to recheck bags, and is there enough layover?

Were your tickets purchased together or separately? Either way you should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • International-Domestic Transfer
    Apr 23, 2014
Hello, Curious to know if there is anything i should look out for. i am flying from Doha to JFK and on to Norfolk. I booked the tickets all together, and I am flying into and out of T8 (Qatar Airways and American Airlines). Just wondering if I am going to have to recollect/recheck my bags and if I'll be able to stay secure side during my layover. It's 2 hours long. Thank you!

There are no secure side intl->domestic transfers in the US. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

  • Transferring planes at JFK
    Apr 23, 2014
I am considering flying into JFK from Milan arriving at 7pm on Emirates, then flying to Chicago on Jet Blue departing 8:45pm. Is this enough time to clear customs, collect and recheck bags? Please advise!!

Were your tickets bought together or separately. If together it should be enough time as you can just drop your bags after you clear customs. However, if bought separately you may have a tough time getting to T5 before the bag cutoff.

  • Going from T5 to T1
    Apr 21, 2014
I will be flying from TPA to JFK via JetBlue. Then taking a flight from JFK to Istanbul via Turkish Airlines. The tickets for the entire flight will be purchased together so I believe the luggage will continue to IST without me having to pick it up at JFK. My question is, which Terminal Train will I take to T1? And once I get there, what needs to be done? Will I already have my boarding pass to IST from when I departed Tampa (Jet Blue) or will I have to go to the ticket counter at Terminal 1 and then go through security again? I will have 2 1/2 hours to get from T5 to T1. Thanks.

There's just one train that runs both ways around the loop. Just board the one that the signs say is going towards T1. JetBlue will probably be able to issue your Turkish boarding pass but you may have to stop at their ticket counter if they can't. You should have enough time.

  • Terminal 2 to terminal 1
    Apr 20, 2014
I have a connecting flight April 29 between delta terminal 2 and air france terminal . 76 minutes if on time. Delta says it's a legal connection but I am wondering if it really is enough time being as I must relearn security at t1?

On arrival at Terminal 2 take the 'Airline Terminals Train' (marked on JFK's maps in yellow) running counter-clockwise from T1 to T8, T7, T5, T4 & T2/3) and taking only minutes between them. Your connecting terminal is T1 (Air France) - however, if you did not buy your flights on one ticket, you would need to claim your bags at T2, take them on the train to T1, proceed to AirFrance check-in counter & check them in there before continuing to your connecting gate.

  • 1 hr 20 min Impossible transfer time?
    Apr 18, 2014
Hi, I'm arriving with a Delta flight at 4:10 PM from Milan. I have AA tickets to Miami departing at 5:30 PM ( they changes time after I purchased tickets and it's last flight of day). It's impossible to clear customs, collect bags, check bags and change terminals in that amount of time?

That will be really tough. It's possible if your Milan flight is early, but still very difficult. You will probably have to transfer the bags yourself and probably get to T8 after the bag cutoff. You could request a refund from AA considering they changed the time on you and book a flight on JetBlue to Fort Lauderdale (I assume they have one later than 5:30 PM).
