  • JFK term 8 on AA connect to QF term 7 on QF - 2.5hrs ON Dec 15th, 2015

Hi, I arrive into JFK on domestic AA flight into terminal 8 at 3.30pm . I have a onward flight at terminal 7 with Qantas at 6pm. There are 2.5 hrs BUT I have 2 separate tickets. The flights are for in 4 days time on Dec 15th, if you have any suggestions on tips on how to move through the terminals, I'd appreciate it, thank you

You just have to claim your bags from AA in T8, take your bags on the airtrain one stop to T7, and check them with Qantas and go through security. You have enough time.

Thank you Zap, I appreciate your time, I'm just worried because my flight with Qantas is international and everyone has been telling me I need at 3-3.5 hours between connections. Do you think AA will check my luggage through to Qantas?

You can show your Qantas itinerary to the agent at your origin airport and ask. However, they are not obligated to. Also, 2.5 hours should be enough time as long as your AA flight is on-time.

Hi, I will arrive to JFK from Mexico at 7:20 and have next flight to dubai at 10:40, do you think time is ok? ANd on my way back I arrive to JFK at 14:10 and have the flight to mexico at 17:00.. do you have any tip? I want to document bags but I dont know if I should not.

    Airlines are Aeromexico and Emirates.

Yes, that should be enough time both ways. I don't know why you mean "document bags". Do you mean check bags? Yes, I think you have time to check bags, but note that you will have to claim them to go through US Customs both ways. If you purchased two separate tickets you will have to take them to the Emirates check-in counter at JFK on the way there and the Aeromexico check-in counter on the way back.

thank u very much, yes i meant check bags, im aware id have to go through us customs, i believe time's ok i just want to be sure if i can check them or i should totally avoid checking bags and only take a bag on the overhead compartment. thank u very much.

  • Connecting Flight

Hello, I will be traveling from Toronto YYZ to JFK via AC 8906 arriving T1 at 22:05. I have to connect to CI 11 at T4 departing at 00:20. Tickets were purchased separately, I'm Canadian and have no bags to check-in. Would 2h15mins be enough time for connection? Thank you.

On my return flight, I will arrive JFK T4 via CI 12 at 19:15 and connecting to DL 4209, which leaves T4 at 20:53. Tickets were also purchased separately; I will have no bags to check-in. Would 1h38mins be enough time to connect?

On your outbound flight - Air Canada does not use T1. They use T7. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto, so all you have to do is take the AirTrain to T4, get your CI boarding pass, and go through security. You should have enough time. On your return, it will be much more difficult as you will have to go through US Immigration, customs, get your Delta boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security all in less time. Although with no checked bags I think you can do it.

Thank you very much for your response, greatly appreciate it!

I have an Alitalia flight landing in JFK terminal 1 at 18:55. After immigration, baggage claim and customs, I have to take a Delta flight at 20:59 to LAX in the terminal 4 ( it is the same ticket , Delta is in code share with Alitalia ). Do you think that I have enough time? Thanks in advance

Yes, that should be enough time.

I will be flying with American Airlines from Pamplona, Spain (PNA) to Boston, MA (BOS). I go from Pamplona (PNA) -> Madrid (MAD), Madrid (MAD) -> JFK, JFK -> Boston (BOS). I'm flying with American Airlines all booked in one ticket. Will I have to pickup my luggage before clearing customs and then have to recheck it in? What terminals would I be landing in at JFK and flying out from? It doesn't say anywhere on my itinerary.

Yes, in JFK you will arrive in Terminal 8 if your flight is operated by American and Terminal 7 if it is operated by Iberia. Your Pamplona-Madrid flight is operated by Iberia. After arrival you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then if you arrived in Terminal 7, take the AirTrain to Terminal 8, then go through security for your flight to Boston, which will depart from Terminal 8.

Thanks. Just to clarify, the recheck in desk is right after customs? My flight from Madrid-JFK is operated by American Airlines. So I believe I will be in Terminal 8 upon arrival. Do I have to go through security again if I arrive and depart from Terminal 8?

Yes, the re-check desk is right after customs. Yes, you have to go through security after customs and re-check even if you arrive in Terminal 8. All International arriving passengers who are connecting onward do.

  • 2 hours from Delta to Air China in the AM - no checked baggage

Hi, I am in the middle of booking a domestic flight from Altanta - JFK for my 77 years old mother. The only available direct flight from Atlanta to JFK in order to connect to her international flight, Air China, is only 2 hours. Is this enough time? I am going to ask for wheelchair assistant who can take her from one terminal to the next. Thanks.

With no checked bags it's possible, but I really would reconsider booking a 77 year old on a multi airline itinerary through JFK on two separate tickets.

I forgot to mention the ATL - JFK is Delta airlines.

Yes, I know - possible, but not a good idea

I have booked the Air China which leaves JFK @12:50 PM. The earliest direct flight is with Delta, 8:10 AM - 10:29 AM. The second choice is with American Airline with one stop in NC is 5:45 AM - 9:22 AM. This will give her 3 hours layover. However, I am not quite sure about American Airlines's reputation of being late most of the time. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks.

American Airlines is not "Late most of the time". Delays can always happen at the NYC airports. Honestly if you've already booked the ticket from JFK she should fly into New York the day before if she doesn't want to be hurried at the airport.

    Thank you.

Leaving FL on Jet Blue, flying into JFK, have a connecting flight to London on British Airways. Does anyone know the baggage procedure? Would I have to get my baggage then go through security again? Or will my baggage be sent to my BA flight?

If you purchased your tickets on one reservation your bags will be checked through to BA. If you purchased two separate reservations you will have to claim your bags in JFK and take them to BA. You will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from Terminal 7.

The airtrain connects all terminals outside security. It takes about 10 minutes. you don't have to ask the same question four times.

  • enough time to catch connecting flight?

Hi there, I will be flying from Singapore to Korea via Koreanair, with a layover time of 1h 25min at ICN. From ICN I'll fly to JFK, with a 3h 45min connection before taking a Jetblue flight to Buffalo. Will I have enough time to make it for all the flights? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. If you purchased your jetblue flight separately from your Korean flights you will have to transfer your bags yourself to Terminal 5 and re-check them with Jetblue.

Yes, I purchased the Koreanair flights and Jetblue flight on a single itinerary. I am aware that Jetblue has an interline agreement with Koreanair; so does this mean that I can check-in my baggages at the airport in Singapore, and they will be checked through to JFK, where I have to collect them and pass through customs inspections, then transfer the baggages to terminal 5 and re-check them with Jetblue for the flight to Buffalo?

Coming in from Minneapolis to JFK, going on to Rome, is 1 hour 15 minutes enough time if booked on same reservation thru Delta? Thank you.

Yes, that is enough time. If you arrive in Terminal 2, Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security to Terminal 4 where you will depart, however, it appears that all the MSP-JFK flights arrive in Terminal 4, so all you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
