  • Enough time for connecting flights
    Jun 21, 2013
Arriving at terminal 7 from Los Angeles on United departing from terminal 7 to Frankfurt Germany on United I have one hour 40 minutes is that enough time

Lufthansa uses terminal 1, not Terminal 7. You'll have to take the AirTrain between terminals and hurry.

Thank you for your response, I have one hour and 49 minutes you're saying this not enough time? Also, do I have to cliam and recheck my luggage?

That should be enough time. If your tickets were bought on one reservation you should not have to claim and re-check your bags.

    Thank you...

  • Transition from Terminal 8 to 7
    Jun 19, 2013
My flight from Los Angeles (BA operated by AA) will arrive at terminal 8. I will have to catch a flight to Madrid (BA operated with Iberia) from terminal 7. Will my luggage be checked in all the way through to Madrid? How do I get from 8 to 7? Is 2h enough time for this? Thanks

'Operated by' means BA code-shares with AA - giving you the advantage of baggage transfer. To get from T8 to T7, board the 'Airplane Terminals Train' (follow signs) one stop to T7, then go through security check and on to your gate. You have plenty of time.

  • Transiting at JFK from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2 on separate carriers
    Jun 19, 2013
I'm arriving in JFK via an international flight on Emirates at 825am at Terminal 4. I have to catch a domestic flight on Delta at 11am at Terminal 2. I am going to check in my bags with Emirates. Will I be able to take the Delta shuttle bus from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2? And how will I to collect my check-in baggage from Emirates?

As an international arrival at JFK, you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags - however, if Emirates does not transfer bags to your Delta connection (check with Emirates), you would need to take your bag along to Terminal 2 and check it in there. To get from T4 to T2 - take the 'Airplane Terminals Train' which runs every 8 mins or so, to your next stop.

Actually, since your second flight is with Delta, you can just take your bags upstairs to the Delta check in counter in T4, then if your gate is in T2, just take Delta's post-security shuttle from T4 to T2.

  • Transiting SIA incoming from Frankfurt to AA outgoing to Montreal
    Jun 19, 2013
My daughter will be coming in from Singapore via Frankfurt on Singapore Air at 1105 at terminal 4 then going out on American Airlines to Montreal at 1455 at terminal 8. Will she need to pass through Immigrations, collect bags and do a security check on the way in, then check-in and repeat to leave? What is the least stressful way to do this for a 15-year old who has never travelled internationally? Thanks.

Well, she does have enough time. First she'll go through immigration in T4. Were her tickets booked on one ticket or two? If two then she should take her bags with her on the AIrTrain/Airline Terminals Train from T4 to T8 and check in with American. Note that she'll need some money to check the bag on AA if she does this. She'll then go through security and to her gate in T8. She'll hen go through Canadian immigration when she gets to Montreal.

Thanks ZAP. She is booked all on one ticket. So does that mean she will not need to collect her bags and they will be automatically transited through to Montreal for her?

No, any time you enter the US from abroad (from an airport without preclearance) you have to claim your baggage to clear customs. It just means she will likely be able to use the re-check counter in T4.

  • delta dfw-jfk-svo connection
    Jun 16, 2013
I am flying Delta from Dallas to JFK (DELTA CONNECTION) and then to Moscow SVO. I have only 55min layover. Do I need to change terminals and if so, do I need to go through the security check again in jfk?

You may have to change terminals from 2 to 4. However, if you do, Delta runs a shuttle between the two terminals that runs on the secure side, so you won't have to go through security.

  • Delta flights from SHN to JFK to LAX
    Jun 16, 2013
Hey, just wondering when checking in at Shannon will our bags go all the way through to LAX? We have a 3 hour layover in JFK....will we have to check in again for the connecting flight or will it be a case of just going through security again in JFK? The two flights are both with delta airlines and were bought together through KLM, will we have to transfer terminals also? Any information would be really helpful :-)

You arrive & depart from Terminal 4 at JFK Airport. As Shannon does not have US customs clearance, on arrival at JFK you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in your bags where indicated. Bags will be transferred to your next flight. Proceed to the departures level which opens up to the Concourse level with security checkpoints on either end for Concourses A or B (A & B gates). You have plenty of time.

Sujun is incorrect. Flights from shannon are precleared and your bags will be checked straight through to LAX.

  • changing terminals
    Jun 16, 2013
We are flying Delta from New Orleans to JFk and onto Amsterdam with KLM and onto Bucharest. What is the procedure once we arrive at Delta's terminal to get to KLM's terminal?

You arrive & depart from Terminal 4, which has A & B gates - simply check overhead screens on arrival for your KLM flight & gate number and follow signs.

  • transit from terminal 1 to terminal 4 around 3:20 p.m on Wed
    Jun 16, 2013
How do I get from terminal l to terminal 4 around 3:20 P.M. on Wed

On arrival at JFK at T1, take the 'Airline Terminals Train' (follow signs) to Terminal 4 running on average every 7 mins.

  • Arriving JFK on Chinese Eastern
    Jun 14, 2013
I will be arriving on Chinese Eastern at 2:15 pm and have a connecting flight on Jet Blue at 5:20. Is this plenty of time?

It should be enough time. You will probably have to take your bags with you on the Airline Terminals Train/AirTrain from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 where JetBlue departs.

  • Delta Domestic & International Flights
    Jun 14, 2013
I am taking a Delta flight from Boston to JFK. I may have to claim my luggage and then check it in for a Delta/KLM international flight to Amsterdam. What is the easiest and fastest way to do this?

Did you buy your two flights on the same reservation? If not you will not have to claim your baggage and re-check, Delta should transfer it for you. Your flight to Amsterdam will depart from Terminal 4, if you arrive in Terminal 2 from Boston, Delta runs a shuttle bus between the two terminals.

  • how to get from terminal 2 to terminal 1

how to get from terminal 2 to terminal 1 to Aeroflot airlines

The Airline Terminals Train/Airtrain that runs outside security. Budget around 45 minutes to make your connection. I assume you're coming in on a domestic Delta Connection flight?

  • transit time at 8 pm?
    Jun 14, 2013
Hi, I'm arriving at JFK from Heathrow on American (travel originating Tel Aviv) at 8 pm on a weekday evening w/three kids. Can we make it from there to a Jet Blue flight to Boston at 11 pm? Will we be switching terminals and what does that entail? Will the procedure be: exit plane, collect luggage, clear immigration and customs, go to Jet Blue and recheck luggage, or is there a way to drop off my luggage right after clearing customs? Thanks for your help!

Yes, you have the procedure correct. You will take the Airline Terminals Train/AirTrain from Terminal 8 to Terminal 5.

  • Terminal 7 to Terminal 4
    Jun 8, 2013
I am flying from IAD to JFK on United, arriving in Terminal 7 at 7:00 pm. On a separate ticket, I am flying standby on KLM to Amsterdam from Terminal 4. I am aiming for the 8:12 pm departure. Do I have time to make that connection? My plan is to have only carry-on luggage.

Unless you travel on weekend, 7am is rush hour at airports. Even with only carry-on luggage, you need to (a) take the 'Airline Terminal Train' running on average every 8 mins. to your connecting terminal (next stop T5, T4); then go through security check (which can take up to an hour these days) - not to mention that your incoming flight may be late. T4 has Concourses A & B with corresponding gates; each of which has its own security checkpoint.

He's traveling at 7 PM. However, I still think that's a very risky connection as there's a good chance your inbound flight will be delayed.

Thank you for your reply. I thought it might be rather tight. I will continue looking for other options.

  • How to go from Terminal 3 to 8
    Jun 7, 2013
I flying from Orlando will land in JFK @ 9:30 and Emirates @ 11:00. How to get to Terminal 3 and will that be enough time

Terminal 3 is closed. If you are on Delta, your flight from Orlando will arrive in Terminal 4. Emirates operates from Terminal 4 as well, not Terminal 8. Were your tickets bought on one reservation - if so you can check your bags through and you will have enough time. If not I think it might be tough for you to claim your bags and re-check them with Emirates in enough time.

  • Internat Transfer AA Madrid to Toronto
    Jun 7, 2013
We are arriving at JFK on AA with 2 hours to board a connecting flight on AA to Toronto. I understand we will have to take our hold luggage through customs. Will we also have to go through passport control and airport security again before going to our Toronto flight? How straight forward is this as we will not actually be entering the States?

You will be entering the US just like every other passenger. US Airports don't have special "transfer" wings. As such you will go through full US immigration inspection, then re-check your bags, then go upstairs to go through security for your flight to Toronto.

Thanks for that. Very helpful. See that the US still hasn't noticed that strange place called the rest of the world yet :-) Thanks again
