  • help! will I make it?
    May 17, 2014
Hi. My work has booked me on may 20th Tuesday at 1030am delta flight from london Heathrow to Toronto but it connects at JFK arriving at I think terminal 4 and departing terminal two to Toronto. The airline is delta all the way through but my connection time is only 1hr35min which I don't think is enough time! Delta shows this connection as doable but is it really?

As an international arrival at JFK you need to go through passport check, pick up bags & go through customs clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated (however, if you only use carry-on bag, you merely hand over your customs declaration form - saving time). Delta provides its own shuttles between the two terminals, and you won't need to go through security check again. At 10:30am it's non-rush hour & you should have enough time, even with checked bag.

Actually, you will have to go through security as once you clear Immigration and Customs you will be outside security - I suggest taking the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from T4 to T2 since you will already be outside security.

  • Arriving T4 from Madrid connecting to Seattle
    May 17, 2014
I am arriving from Madrid on Delta scheduled at 1:37 (Monday) then connecting to SEA on Delta for 3:10 departure I have global traveler card and will check one bag. What is the process and will this be enough time? Any suggestions?

On arrival at JFK you need to go through passport check, pick up your bag, go through customs clearance & re-check-in your bag where indicated. You arrive at Terminal 4 and most likely depart from there to, in case your departure to Seattle is from Terminal 2, Delta will shuttle you to its gate area. You have plenty of time!

Both of your flights will be in Terminal 4.

Will arrive at JFK from CLT (USAirways) 3:30. Connecting with Aer Lingus flight leaving at 5:30 for Dublin. Is that enough time to change terminals and go back through security?

You will arrive at JFK at Terminal 8; take the 'Airline Terminals Train' (follow signs) to your departing Terminal 5. The train runs counter-clockwise: your next stops will be at Terminals 1, 2, 4 & 5. At T5 you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. You have enough time.

  • Getting from T2 to T1 on a Saturday
    May 16, 2014
How long should it take to get from terminal 2 to Terminal 1 and clear security? Do the trains run in both directions or do we have to make the complete circle.

At JFK, the 'Airline Terminals Train' runs counter-clockwise - making its continuous run between all terminals. T1 is your next stop where you go through security check & on to your connecting gate.

  • Enough time?

I'm flying from lax to algiers, Algeria and I'm making a couple stops along the way. From what I'm seeing My air France flight comes in to terminal 5 at 11:10 am, and I need to change planes and leave from terminal 2 E at 12:30. How do I do this, and please tell me if I have enough time?

You have your terminals incorrect. Air France does not use Terminal 5 at JFK and there is no Terminal 2E. Please be more specific about your route and what airport your question is about.

I am taking Air France flight 2757 from LAX to JFK and arrive there at 11:10 am. Then I transfer to Air France flight 9 from JFK to Paris which leaves JFK at 12:30 pm, where I transfer to Air Algerie on my way to Algeria. Will I have enough time to catch my transfer flight at JFK if I arrive at 11:10 and depart at 12:30pm?

Air France 2757 is actually Delta flight 2262. It will arrive in Terminal 4 at JFK. Air France flight 9 will depart from Terminal 1. Your baggage will be checked all the way to Algiers by Delta in LAX and you should receive your boarding passes at least all the way to Paris. In JFK you will have to exit Terminal 4, take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1 and then go through security and to your Air France departure gate. If your first flight is on-time you should barely have enough time.

  • Connecting from T4 to T1
    May 14, 2014
If I arrive at terminal 4 at 11:10 am (from lax), and depart from terminal 1 at 12:30 pm, will I have enough time?

It's possible but your first flight will have to be on-time and you will have no chance if you have checked baggage as T1 means you're flying southwest and they don't transfer baggage with any other airlines. Be sure to check in for your southwest flight online before you depart on your first flight.

Sorry, for some reason I thought you were talking about LAX. Ignore what I said about Southwest. What airlines are you flying? Did you purchase your tickets together or separately?

  • Need advice please

my flight from ATL arrives at JFK at 1030 am at T2. I have international flight from T4 at 1220 pm. I am also checking one bag at ATL. My question is what is the fastest way to move from T2 to T4 once I collect my checked bag from T2. I will be arriving at JFK on Delta at T2 and leaving in Etihad at T4

You can take the AirTrain one stop between T2 and T4 since you will be outside security when you claim your bag.

  • Enough time to connect?
    May 11, 2014

Yes your time is sufficient. On arrival, take the 'Airlines Terminal Train' to T1 (only 1 stop a train runs counter-clockwise.

I'm arriving into T8 at 1.10pm from LHR and then departing from T8 to orlando at 2.35pm. Will this 1 hour and 25 mins be enough to go through immigration, customs etc. I 'll be checked in right through to orlando but believe i've got to collect bags to go through customs at jfk and then re check them. Just nervous i will run short of time to do all this! Any advice appreciated.

As you stay at Terminal 8, your transfer time should suffice. T8 has Concourse B with gate 1-16, while near its gate 14 is access to Concourse C with gates 31-47.

Thanks - does T8 have its own customs hall or does it share with other terminals?

Yes, T8 has its own immigration hall.

  • Time to go from T4 to check-in counter at T8
    May 10, 2014
Hello, I will have about 40-45 minutes to go from T2 to Air Berlin check-in counter in T8 as they do not have web check-in and will close check-in 90 minutes prior to departing time. Woul I be able to make it?

On arrival at JFK's T2, take the frequently-running 'Airlines Terminal Train' (follow signs) from T2 to T8 - only one stop - running counter-clockwise. At T8 you need to proceed to the AB check-in counter at Departures level and on to security check & your gates. T8 has Concourse B with gate 1-16 and near its gate 14 is access to Concourse C with gates 31-47.

  • 1 Hour internation-domestic connection with no checked in luggage
    May 11, 2014
I have exactly 1 hour between my arrival with Iberia from MAD and my departure with Delta #480 to ATL on Sunday afternoon. I will have only a carry on and no checked luggage. Assuming my first flight will not be late will it be possible to make it to the domestic Delta flight? What do I need to do exactly in order to be as fast as I can? As I purchased the two tickets separately is there a chance that Iberia or Delta staff will assist me in being on time in an immigration/security fast track or something of the sort? If my first flight is late and I miss the second flight will Iberia and/or Delta put me on the next flight to ATL with no additional charge? Thanks

As you do not have to go through customs clearance at JFK, all you need to do after passport check at Terminal 7, take the frequently-running 'Airlines Terminal Train' from T7 to T2 - running counter-clockwise). However, at T2 you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. You have enough time.

Thanks! I was not totally lucky. The Iberia flight was late by 45 minutes and I missed the next flight. Although it was a separate reservation Iberia rebooked the Delta flight for me and 2 hours later I was on my way.

  • Possible to meet family members between transfers
    May 7, 2014
I am flying from Dubai to Toronto wth a transfer in JFK. I will have to transfer from Terminal 4 to Terminal 7 to board the flight to Toronto. I have family in NYC, if they come to the airport, will I be able to hang out with them between transferring terminals?

Yes, you could meet them outside security in Terminal 4 and they could ride the AirTrain with you to Terminal 7.

    Thank you!

  • International to domestic
    May 8, 2014
I'm arriving in JFK terminal 1 from Frankfurt (Lufthansa) at 13:00. Than I have a separate flight to Atlanta (Delta) at 16:59 from terminal 2. Will I have enough time to go through immigration and reclaim my baggage?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You can even check in for your Delta flight online before you leave Europe.

    Thank you!!

  • 1 hour transit from Dublin to Tampa--sufficient?
    May 5, 2014
We have to transit through JFK from Dublin-Tampa in early October. Cheapoair.com has lined up the ticket to be efficient time-wise (1 hr transit, catching last Jet Blue flight out) but I think this will not be sufficient time. My questions are: 1. If we get seats at the front of the plane and travel with no check-ins, will that be sufficient? 2. Is the Dublin-JFK flight generally on time? 3. Will the Aer Lingus/Jet Blue flight wait for us if we booked it all as Aer Lingus? Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

Answered my own questions--Aer Lingus will check our bags through to Tampa and we don't have to change terminals. Nice! The information is at: http://www.aerlingus.com/travelinformation/knowbeforeyoufly/newyorkjfkairport/#d.en.6382

Note that if you are late it's very unlikely they would wait for you. However, you would be booked on the next JetBlue flight to Tampa.

    Thanks. We figured as much.

  • International to domestic flight with change of terminals
    May 3, 2014
I am arriving in JFK at terminal 4 from an international flight (Delta airlines) and have a layover of 2 hours. Is it correct that I first have to go through US immigration, then I have to reclaim my baggage. So the baggage is not automatically transferred as in Europe. Then I have to proceed through customs with my baggage. Immediately afterwards there will be a boot of Delta airlines where I can re-check my baggage. After going through security, I have to go to gate B16 where I can take the bus to terminal 2. Once arrived in terminal 2 at C60, I can proceed to my gate without any delays. About the return flight: same story, but terminal 2 > terminal 4 and layover of 1h45. I suppose I won't have to reclaim my baggage because I'm leaving the US. So then arrive in terminal 2, don't claim my baggage, go through customs, don't go to the counter of delta airlines to recheck it and proceed immediately to security. Afterwards I go to gate C60 where I can take the bus to terminal 4 (B18) and proceed to my gate. Is this a correct plan or am I missing something? First time that I have a layover in the US, so I am a bit nervous and prefer to ask prior to the flight so I won't face any surprises. Thanks for your help!

International arrivals at U.S.A. need to go through passport check, pick up bags & go through customs with bags; then re-check in bags where indicated. Bags then will automatically be transferred, unless you bought separate tickets. Until 2015 when T4 will become exclusive Delta terminal, it maintains 2 terminals: T2 & T4, and therefore shuttles its passengers from gate to gate: At T4 at B23 gate, at T2 at C60. Outgoing international flights need no clearance.

Thank you for your clear answer!
