I am flying in to JFK on a Delta arriving at 2:09 PM. Then I will have a flight to Shanghai on China Eastern at 4:25 PM. A 2 hrs 16 mins connection. It is a same ticket from Delta so I don't think I need to worry about baggages. But is that enough time for TSA?

Forgot to mention it is going to be in December. Is weather a concern? I have never flown to JFK before.

That should be enough time. Usually the weather in NYC in December isn't too bad.

  • Is 1:30 hrs. enough for connection
    Jun 16, 2016
I am coming to JFK on an international flight from London. I have 1:30 hrs. between this flight and a connection to DC. Both flights are American Airlines. Is that enough time?

That's just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Can I go from Terminal 4 (inside security area) to terminal 1 (inside security area) without getting out of security zone?

No, you cannot. You will have to take the AirTrain and go through security again in T1.

  • Phx -> JFK -> London

On July 26 we are flying Phoenix to JFK on DL 537 arriving at 7:28 p.m. and then DL 4377 (Virgin Atlantic) to Paris at 9:30 p.m. Is this enough time with just carry-on luggage. Will we have any security, immigration, or customs checkpoints to go through at JFK?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US.

  • 75 minute layover

Flying KLM both flights from San Diego to JFK then on to Rome. One checked bag. 75 minute layover at JFK. Is that enough time? do we have to go through security again?

The first flight will be on Delta. The second flight will be on Delta or Alitalia. If both are on Delta that is definitely enough time and you don't have to go through security. If the second flight is operated by Alitalia it's a bit more difficult as you will have to change terminals and go through security. KLM does not fly San Diego-JFK or JFK-Rome.

There might not be enough time then, because we are flying into JFK on Delta and then flying from JFK to Rome on Alitalia We land at JFK at 8:50pm and Depart to Rome at 10:05pm (75 minutes). Can you please tell me how much time we need, so that I can have my airline move us up to a earlier flight from San Diego? I just got off the phone with them and they wouldn't help us.

How much time is needed if flying out on Alitalia?

  • Flying in from Paris Terminal 1 Departing Terminal 4
    Jun 15, 2016
On Thursday June 30 we fly in on a Delta flight from Paris arriving Terminal 1 at 7:15 pm and departing 9:40 pm Delta for Syracuse out of Terminal 4 - are we going to be able to get through customs and make that connection?

Yes, that should be enough time. Note that no Delta flights arrive in Terminal 1. If you are arriving in Terminal 1 from Paris that means that flight is on Air France. Delta flights would arrive in Terminal 4. The 7:15 arrival does appear to be an Air France flight into Terminal 1.

What is the fastest way to change terminal between terminal 2 too 4 .? I only have 1 hour to connect

Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security between Terminals 2 and 4.

I have a LAN flight from Lima scheduled to land at 8:55am on June 29. I then have a Delta flight to Boston at 11am. Does this provide me with enough time to go through customs/immigration and then check in to the Delta flight, assuming I will have carry-on baggage only?

With carry-ons only I think this is just enough time. Check in for your Delta flight online before leaving Lima.

  • CHS - JFK - CPH (separate tickets)
    Jun 14, 2016
Hi!i haven't flown international before. I have a JetBlue flight from charleston, sc (CHS) to JFK. I land in JFK at 11:18 am and catch a flight to Reykjavik (final destination CPH) via Icelandair at 2:10 pm. Is this enough time? They are two separate tickets. Do I need to exit and re enter (go through security)? Or can I just go to the terminal. Can I check in online? Thank you!!!

Oh - I'm not checking bags.

You just have to take the AirTrain from T5 to T7, get your Icelandair boarding passes if you don't have them already and then go through security. You have enough time. Security lines in T7 tend to be very short in the early afternoon.

  • Air France to Delta
    Jun 15, 2016
Hello there. I have a question about connecting flights. I am arriving at JFK Terminal 1 from Amsterdam with Air France at 10.20am. I have a connecting flight with Delta at 12 noon (in either terminal 2 or 4). So I have an hour and 40 minutes between flights. My question is what happens if I have checked baggage? Do I have to pick it up when I land or is it loaded onto the next flight automatically? Will there be enough time for this or should I travel with carry on only (which is possible just a pain due to liquids). Thanks so much for your response. Kind regards, Annette

Air France does not fly from Amsterdam to JFK. That flight will be operated by Delta or KLM and arrive in Terminal 4. Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security and to your departure gate. You barely have enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Thanks for your reply. It was extremely helpful. Sorry I should have said I am flying to JFK from Amsterdam via Paris. So I guess I will have even less time from what you have said. Thanks so much.

  • separate bookings--how much time to connect?
    Jun 13, 2016
I'm flying Jet Blue from Syracuse to JFK, landing at 8;19 pm. My AirFrance flight to Paris leaves JFK at 11:30 pm. The bookings are separate. Seemed brilliant at the time. Do I have enough time, and how much depends on whether I check a bag I have to go retrieve? If this is too risky, I could pay the change fee on JetBlue but the previous flight is noonish.

It's definitely possible if you don't check a bag and the JetBlue flight is on-time. If there's a delay or you check a bag it gets more difficult.

  • do I have enough time to catch my 430pm flight in terminal 4
    Jun 13, 2016
I arrive into terminal 5 130pm. Need to collect luggage and goto to emirates in terminal 4 to check in with bags for 430pm dep flight to Dubai. Do I have enough time and best way to go to terminal 5

Arrive on Aerolinas Argentina 8:30 travel to LA on Delta at 11:45on separate ticket---do I,have,to,go,thru, security again.

Both of you barely have enough time. ***, the only way between terminals is the AirTrain. Bfc, Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, change terminals on the airtrain, re-check bags with Delta, and go through security.

  • jetblu to icelandair connection

Arriving JFK on Jetblu from Chicago in T5 and depart Icelandair T7. Must we pass through security again?

Yes, you will have to go through security again in T7

    Thank you.

  • enough time for us and our bags to transfer?
    Jun 10, 2016
I will be flying Delta 2574 from ATL. It lands at 4:08 and allows 2 hrs & 27 min layover before departing Delta 418 to Milan. Will this be enough time for us and our bags to transfer? Thanks!

You don't need to do anything with your bags on your way to Milan. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. You just have to take the shuttle from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4 and go to your departure gate.

  • non US national flying in by BA from LHR and onwards to SFO
    Jun 10, 2016
I am flying in from LHR by BA eta 18.05 (Terminal8) and then onwards to SFO @20.00 (same Terminal 8). Do I need to collect my bags, customs/immigration/security etc? is the two hours enough?.

If you are arriving in T8 then both flights will be on American Airlines. Yes, in JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security. You should have just enough time.
