We are flying in from London Heathrow to JFK with Delta arriving at 14:34 into Terminal 4. Our next flight to Columbus is at 18:25 departing from Terminal 4.I also believe with Delta. As we are arriving and departing from the same terminal will we have to go through security in JFK or only when we arrive in Colombus? We bought all our flights together, so I'm guessing our luggage should go from London to Columbus or will we have to collect and re-check in?

Upon arrival in JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk immediately after, then go through security and to your departure gate, even though you will be given the boarding passes for both the LHR-JFK and JFK-CMH flights and your bags will be tagged to CMH in London.

My husband and I are flying back from ireland on aer lingus and arriving at jfk at 240. We need to make a flight home at 405. Will we have time to go through customs, grab luggage, recheck our bags, and make our flight? Is the air train easy to use? Thanks

Hi, I will fly next Sunday from Miami to Milano (Italy) through New York JFK. Do you if I should take my luggage and do again the check in in New York?

What airline or airlines are you flying? Were your tickets purchased on one reservation or two separate reservations? I can't answer your question without that information.

Hi, My mother is arriving at gate B8 T8 from Paris on American Airline and then will have a flight from C43 T8 to Seattle, again AA. Does she have to go through customs and recheck her baggage.

Yes, in JFK T8 she will go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, re-check her bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to her departure gate.

Hello! I have a JetBlue flight (T5), but want to go to T4 to eat at a restaurant there beforehand. Since I will have JetBlue tickets, will they still let me through security? Or does one need a ticket corresponding to terminal/airline on ticket? Thank you!

Technically, yes, you are supposed to be allowed through any checkpoint if you have a ticket departing JFK that day. But it's up to the discretion of the officers.

  • Transfer service between terminals

Hi, I arrive to JFK at 12:25 pm from Moscow, and then I need to change terminal for my next flight to Austin at 17:25 pm. My tickets are separate. Is there a transfer service between terminals in JFK ? If yes, how can I order it?

There is no "transfer service" You have plenty of time. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs, then take your bags on the airtrain to your departure terminal, check your bags (there will probably be a checked bag fee), then go through security and to your departure gate. If you post what airlines you are flying I can tell you what terminals you will be arriving and departing from.

  • Baggage transfer from T1 to T5

Hi, I arrive on 11:10 am to JFK at T1 (via Turkish Airlines), and I ll take a Jetblue flight to Orlando at 8pm from T5 -just wanna see the city center for a bit inbetween. I would like to know the procedure for baggage transfer. Do I have to claim my baggage and recheck it? If yes, will I do it just after passing through customs and drop at a checkin desk; or shall I take it to T5 and check in there? Also for any case, will they send the baggage with the next closest flight to Orlando, or is it gonna wait for my flight even though it's at 8pm? Thank you very much!

If you purchased two separate tickets you will have to take your bags to T5 on the AirTrain and re-check it with JetBlue. Yes, you should be able to re-check it after you clear customs and make it to T5. Your baggage will travel on your flight. You don't have much time to see anything as it will probably be close to 1:30 PM by the time you re-check your bags. It will then take close to 90 minutes to reach the city so you will arrive there at 3 PM. You will have to head back to the airport at about 5:30 PM, which unless you are traveling on a weekend, will be rush hour and the trains will be very crowded.

We are flying into JFK from detroit at 7.30pm, connecting onto flight to heathrow london at 8.30pm. Its all booked on same eticket with delta. Will we have enough time to connect from terminals? Will our domestic delta flight arrive into terminal 4, same as our departing international flight? Thanks

Yes, both flights will likely be in Terminal 4. You should have enough time if your flight from Detroit is on-time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Hi, I am traveling from Costa Rica (LIR) to Atlanta (ALT) to JFK to Brussels with Delta all on one ticket . At JFK I have only 1 hour and 22 minutes. It is this enough time and what is the procedure.

Yes, that should be enough time. At JFK all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will arrive in terminal 2 or 4 and depart from Terminal 4. Delta runs a shuttle bus between Terminals 2 and 4 inside security if you need to change terminals. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

I am flying from Canada to JFK with Delta and arriving at 9:30 pm my flight for Iceland with Delta from JFK leaves the same night at 10:30 pm. Is it possible to make this connection with checked baggage ?

Yes, it is possible. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Canada. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Jet Blue to AA

I will be flying from Rochester to JFK on Jetblue, then from JFK to Honolulu on American Airlines, and wondering if I will need to exit the terminal, and re-enter security, or if I can go directly to the next terminal without exiting security. Will they check my bags all the way through if it is on a separate ticket purchase? If not, I am considering carrying on my luggage the whole way if it would mean I didn't have to exit and re-enter security. But if I have to exit security to change terminals anyways, then I might as well check luggage and collect at baggage claim and then re-check. Any ideas?

No, they will not check your bags through to AA. JetBlue and AA no longer have an interline baggage agreement. You will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from Terminal 8. They are not connected inside security. You will have to go through security again in Terminal 8.

Does Delta have this interairline agreement with AA?

Yes, but both tickets will have to be purchased on the same reservation in order for bags to be checked through.

I am coming from toronto in AA flight landing at terminal 8. Have my next AA operated Etihadflight to abu dhabi after 2.5 hours fromterminal 4.. Will i make it? I have checked baggage too? Do i have to do immigration n customs?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. If both tickets were purchased on the same reservation all you have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain from T8 to T4, get your Etihad boarding pass, and go through security. If you purchased two separate reservations you will just have to claim your bags from AA in T8 first before doing that, and re-check your bags with Etihad in T4. Either way you should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • 58 minute layover enough time?
    Jul 9, 2015

Aer Lingus is advertising a flight from Syracuse, NY to Dublin, Ireland with a connection in JFK. The layover time is 58 minutes, but there are no terminals listed yet so we are trying to determine if this would be enough time for a connection? Thank you for the help!

The first flight is probably on JetBlue. Both flights would be in Terminal 5. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. That would be enough time.

What's the chance of making a 1 hr 10 min connection from a domestic flight to an international flight on Delta? Seem like it's not really realistic to me, but the other option is a 6 hr layover (though that leaves time for Shake Shack at least!)

It's definitely possible. You will arrive in Terminal 2 or 4 and depart from Terminal 4. If both flights are in 4 all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in 2, Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security to Terminal 4.

I'm traveling on Turkish Air flight 1 arriving at Terminal 1 at 4:50pm (and from flight stats most likely an hour late) and need to get to Terminal 5 Jet Blue leaving at 8:02PM...can I make it?

It's possible. Check in for your JetBlue flight online before you leave Turkey to save you some time in New York.

Do you have to go through security to change terminals? Trying to make connection from Delta arriving at 10:30 to Jet Blue departing at 11:22. Best I can tell Delta is Terminal 4, Jet Blue is 5.

Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 5. With checked bags there is absolutely no chance of making this connection. With no checked bags you could possibly make it if your Delta flight is on-time (which is a huge if), you check in online for your JetBlue flight, and you absolutely sprint to the AirTrain to Terminal 5, to security, and to your gate. I would not attempt that connection.
