I land at JFK from Johannesburg on SAA AT 0640AM (FEB 10TH) and have a Jet Blue flight to Puerto Plata at 0915 what are the procedures? can I make the flight? can luggage be checked through direct to POP from Johnnesburg? I do have a valid USA 10 Visa
What airline are you flying to Puerto Plata? Is it one reservation or two separate reservations?
The airline is JetBlue and at this stage of planning it would be a separate booking from the SAS flight to JFK
You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take your bags with you on the AirTrain to Terminal 5, re-check your bags with JetBlue, and go through security. That is just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
Thank you for response... it's highly appreciated... Is it possible to check the luggage through directly from Johannesburg? Would that be possible if it was one booking? Or if I already have boarding passes printed when I depart Johannesburg
You have to claim your bags in JFK to clear US Customs whether it's one reservation or not, even though you're connecting to a different country.
Flying jetblue BUFFALO to JFK and then on to london, heathrow thru British airways (separate ticket)- do I need to transport my own checked bags between terminals, and if so, how much time is needed? Thanks!
Yes, you will have to take your bags yourself from Terminal 5 to Terminal 7 and re-check them with British Airways. You'll want at least 2.5 hours.
Hi, I am flying into JFK from Ecuador on Latam air, then on to Shannon, Ireland via Aer Lingus. We 2 hours 5 minutes from arrival to departure. Will we be able to get thru customs and checked in for Aer Lingus at least 60 minutes prior to departure? I.E., through customs and to the Aer Lingus check in in an hour?
On a Saturday flying into JFK on Jet Blue flight landing at 10:52pm to then fly out with China Airways at 1:35am. We have checked luggage. Are we going to make it?
There is no such airline as "China Airways". Are you flying China Airlines or Air China? Are your flights on one reservation or two separate reservations?
It's China Airlines and it's two separate reservations, i.e. the Jet Blue leg and the China Airlines leg are two separate reservations. We are doing this is June incidentally.
That should be enough time. Since it's two separate reservations you will have to claim your bags from JetBlue in T5 and take them to Terminal 4 with you on the AirTrain to re-check with China Airlines.
I'd be arriving at JFK on Delta flight DL1 at 1330 and departing on Delta flight DL4136 from JFK at 1455 meaning I have 1hr 25mins to make the connection. Is this enough time? Would I have to clear customs and would I have to re-check my bag back in? I believe both flights are from terminal 4?
Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security and to your departure gate. 85 minutes is really pushing it and is far less than I recommend.
Thanks Zap, the Delta helpdesk are telling me that they would handle the bags being transferred between flights and that I'd just have to get myself through customs. Is this incorrect?
Yes and no, YOU have to claim the bags to bring them through customs, but you can drop them off right after, so technically, THEY are actually transferring them between flights by way of you at the International baggage claim.
I have a similar issue flying Heathrow to Chicago via JFK with 95 min connection time. How did your connection work out?
