  • DELTA - international to domestic

Hi, If arriving on Delta DL219 from Copenhagen at 2.45 pm (June 5), can I make a Delta flight (DL2901) to Detroit at 4.15 (90 min)? Will my baggage make it? In case of a delay, what's the absolute minimum transfer time needed? Don't know which terminals. Thanx

You arrive at Terminal 4 (T4) of JFK, where you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in your bags where indicated. Thereafter, Delta's continuously running shuttle bus runs between gates B23 of T4 and C60 of T2- no need for security check - add about 12 minutes of transfer time.

Thanks. But in case of a delayed arrival, what's the absolute minimum transfer time needed? For me? And for my baggage?

It will be tough to make your connection - right now it is a the minimum connection time. You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check it. Then you will take the AirTrain/Air Terminals train from T4 to T2, go through security, and to your departure gate. momay is incorrect when he says there is no security check.

Hi, Looking at a connection from DTW to Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday eve, June 22. Both Delta flights. Arrive 7.33 Depart 8.40. Is that really enough time? If there's a delay, what's the absolute minimum transfer time needed? Is there passport check on departure? Thanx

It's barely enough time. There will be no passport check. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and have to take Delta's shuttle bus which runs inside security to Terminal 4.

Thank you, ZAP. Can you also answer my question about Delta international to domestic? The answer I got from momay wasn't really complete. Thanx

  • Terminal 2 to 1

Hi, I fly from ORD to JFK then have a connection to Paris. My flight from Chicago has been delayed 30min so I will arrive approximately at 10.30 at JFK terminal 2 gate C66, my flight to Paris is at 11.20 terminal 1.its on the same company and won't have to pick up my luggage. Can I make it?

On arrival at T2 follow signs to the 'Airline Terminals Train' which makes its continuous round between JFK's terminals (counter-clockwise) - your next stops would be T1, where you need to go through security check first, then proceed to your gate. You have sufficient transfer time.

  • T5 domestic to T1 international in 1hr 40mins

I'm about to book a jetblue flight that gets in to JFK from ORD at 11:10pm on Saturday night. My following flight is at 12:50am Sunday from JFK to ICN (korean air). The transfer is from terminal 5 to terminal 1, domestic to international, and I would only have 1hr 40mins. It is different airlines so I have to check back in, but I have no bags to check and I will have completed web-check in by then. Will I have enough time? How likely is a flight delay for late Saturday night and how reliable is jetblue flight time? FYI I'm a frequent flyer who knows my way around and am a fast walker :)

With only a carry-on bag, all you need to do is on arrival at T5 follow signs to the 'Airline Terminals Train' which makes its continuous round between JFK's terminals (counter-clockwise). - your next stops would be T4, T3, T2, T1. On arrival at T1 you need to go through security check & proceed to your gate. You have enough time.

  • Terminals 4-2 and shuttle location
    May 24, 2014

This is my first time flying and I'm trying to figure things out just right as I'm flying by myself. My flight is coming from RIC to JFK Terminal 2 and I have a connecting flight to Terminal 4 that goes to Vancouver. My layover is roughly 2hrs. I need to know if I'll have enough time and where exactly the Delta shuttles are usually located as I have no idea and can't find the information.

At JFK, Delta's continuously running shuttle bus service between gate C60 at T2 & gate B23 at T4 eliminates the need for security check - add about 12 minutes of transfer time. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/jfk, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Terminal 5 to Terminal 4 - have 35 min only
    May 21, 2014

I have only 35 min between my connection as the first flight was delayed. I have to move from terminal 5 to terminal 4, I already have boarding pass. Is it possible?

It's possible if you don't have any baggage to transfer and check.

I'm arriving in JFK T8 from YYZ at 0810 and my next flight is CX841 at 0900. Would I be able to make it?

It will be very difficult - you'll have to take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train to Terminal 7 and go through security. It's possible but there's very little room for any delays, which are common at JFK.

If I get into NYC the night before (2145 into LGA), should I go straight to JFK to wait for my next flight or do you have any other advice?

You'd have to sleep on the floor at JFK if you went straight there - I'd stay in a hotel near JFK or LGA.

  • How do I get from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2 - easiest way?

I SHOULD GO FROM AVIANCA TO DELTA

As you will be an international arrival at JFK's T4, you need to go through passport check, pick up bags & go through security check. If you bought both flights on one ticket, simply re-check-in your bags where indicated and take the Airline Terminals train to T2 (next stop), where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/jfk, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Thank you very much! I have the flights on different tickets. I will open the quick links on that web site

  • Arrive at T4 then leave from T8
    May 20, 2014

Hi, I arrive at Terminal 4 at 11:30am. My next flight is from Terminal 8 with American Airlines at 2:30pm departure time. I will need to pick up my baggage from T4 and then check in at T8 with AA again. How much time I will need for all of this. Thank you!

Anything over 2 hours should be OK, and it looks like you have 3 hours, so you should be fine.

    Thank you ZAP!

  • Arrive T-4 then leave T-2

From Dubai I arrive at Ter-4, I got to connect flight to Indianapolis through Ter-2. 1. Do I need to check out at Ter-4 ? 2. How do I proceed to Ter-2 and how much time it takes. regards, Didar

There is no "check out". Once you clear customs in T4, you will have to take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from T4 to T2, then check your bags with Delta, get your Delta boarding pass, and then go through security and to your gate. It will take a minimum of 60 minutes between when your emirates flight arrives to when you are at your gate in T2, likely closer to 90 minutes.

    Thanks a lot

  • Joing family members between transfer
    May 18, 2014

HI, My family is arriving from India to T4 (air india) and I will travel with them from NYC to Pittsburgh from t2 (Delta). Can I meet them at T4 and go with them to t2?

Yes you can. They will be outside security when they exit customs

  • Delta domestic connections within new Terminal 2 - JFK

Flying in from BUF into Terminal 2 at JFK by a Delta Connection and connecting to ORD on another Delta Connection at Terminal 2 - layover is 41 minutes - is this sufficient? Thanks

You arrive at & depart from Terminal 2 (T2) which has Gates C60-C70. Plenty of time for transfer.

    Thank you

Also, Terminal 2 is unfortunately, not new but in fact quite old.

  • From Delta to British Airways in under 60 Min?
    May 20, 2014

We are set to arrive on Delta at 5:35 Sunday, May 19 and need to catch a 6:40 flight on British Airways. Can we make it?

Just to clarify, JFK is a connection for us. So we would have gone through security in FLL. Just not sure about the shuttle connection or if we will need to do anything with customs. thanksk

You will have to take the AirTrain from Terminal 2 to Terminal 7 and go through security. Will you have checked baggage? Did you purchase both tickets on the same reservation? If you have baggage and did not purchase tickets on the same reservation it is very unlikely you will make it to T7 before the bag cutoff. However, you will not have to do anything with immigration or customs.

Thank you. We were on Jet Blue with almost three hours layover, but they cancelled our flight this morning. We had to rebook on Delta as it was the only one that got us in there with any hope. We will not have any checked bags. It sounds like Security is the biggest variable, right?

Security shouldn't be too bad. The main risk is if your first flight is delayed. Which is common at JFK in the summer

Thanks. I did make it, but my companion did not. Security was the problem. I was able to check in via the BA app, he was not. Therefore I was able to bypass the counter and got the short line to security via flying "preferred economy". Regular coach or having to check in at the counter would have been a "no-go".

  • help! will I make it?

Hi. My work has booked me on may 20th Tuesday at 1030am delta flight from london Heathrow to Toronto but it connects at JFK arriving at I think terminal 4 and departing terminal two to Toronto. The airline is delta all the way through but my connection time is only 1hr35min which I don't think is enough time! Delta shows this connection as doable but is it really?

As an international arrival at JFK you need to go through passport check, pick up bags & go through customs clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated (however, if you only use carry-on bag, you merely hand over your customs declaration form - saving time). Delta provides its own shuttles between the two terminals, and you won't need to go through security check again. At 10:30am it's non-rush hour & you should have enough time, even with checked bag.

Actually, you will have to go through security as once you clear Immigration and Customs you will be outside security - I suggest taking the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from T4 to T2 since you will already be outside security.

  • Arriving T4 from Madrid connecting to Seattle
    May 17, 2014
    2
I am arriving from Madrid on Delta scheduled at 1:37 (Monday) then connecting to SEA on Delta for 3:10 departure I have global traveler card and will check one bag. What is the process and will this be enough time? Any suggestions?

On arrival at JFK you need to go through passport check, pick up your bag, go through customs clearance & re-check-in your bag where indicated. You arrive at Terminal 4 and most likely depart from there to, in case your departure to Seattle is from Terminal 2, Delta will shuttle you to its gate area. You have plenty of time!

Both of your flights will be in Terminal 4.
