  • International - domestic connection time
    Aug 28, 2015
My Alitalia return flight is scheduled to arrive at JFK at 2:55 pm; is a 5:15 flight to DCA or IAD too tight? What is the ideal amount of time for this type of connection? Many thanks for your tips!

5:15 would be barely possible. I'd want a flight a little later, but you can probably make 5:15 work. Then again, Alitalia isn't known for their punctuality.

I arrive in T4 with Ethiad at 09.10 and have a JetBlue flight from T5 at 11.10. I understand that (1) both Immigration and Customs Clearance will take place in Abu Dhabi and (2) baggage will be checked through to the final (US) destination. Will I have sufficient time to make the connection assuming I will have hand luggage only and will be fast on my feet!

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You just have to take the AirTrain from T4 to T5 and go through security.

  • Checked luggage (Domestic to International)
    Aug 27, 2015
Hello, I'm flying into JFK (domestic flight) then catching an international flight overseas. Both flights are booked on the same airline and same confirmation number. Since I won't have to go through customs at JFK, will my checked bags follow me to my destination or will I have to claim my bags and re-check them on the international flight? Thanks!!

No will not need to re-check. Since it's on the same airline and you are not entering the United States from a foreign country.

  • Transit time domestic to international
    Aug 27, 2015
Hi I am travelling back from Pittsburgh arriving with Delta at 07:15 and catching the 08:15 Virgin flight out to LHR. Is this enough time? seems very tight to me, but didn't know whether it was faster going domestic to international than the other way round. Thanks Chris

Yes, going domestic to International is much faster as there is no US Immigration or customs when leaving the US. All you have to do at JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 4. an hour should be enough time.

Thanks for the advice and swift response

  • JFK connection from London Heathrow to Chicago
    Aug 27, 2015
Hi, I'm considering getting a connecting flight from London Heathrow to Chicago with the connection at JFK. The flight from Heathrow to JFK is with Virgin and the flight from JFK to Chicago O'Hare will be with Delta. The time between flights is 1hr40m, will this be enough time? Could you explain the process at JFK for this type of flight please. Also I'm assuming Virgin and Delta work together therefore I won't have to get a separate boarding pass at JFK. Could you confirm please. Thanks!

I should mention this is all under one reservation, so does this mean I wont have to claim my bags I can just go straight onto the next flight instead?

You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go up to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate which will also be in Terminal 4. You barely have enough time assuming everything goes smoothly.

Always give yourself ample time in between flights for connections because you do not know if something can happen BUT because it's still the end of summer travels, you will need AT LEAST 2 hours to go through Customs& Immigration(still busy season with millions of travelers!) And you are traveling during the busy hours of the day

  • connections between terminal 8 and 7 without checking bags
    Aug 26, 2015
I arrive at terminal 8 from miami and then taking a cathay pacific plane in terminal 7. I do not hay bags. There is any connection between those terminal without passing again for sevuirity?

No, there are no connections between those terminals inside security. You will have to take the AirTrain and go through security in Terminal 7.

  • Only 35 minutes between flights
    Aug 26, 2015
I arrive at JFK on one flight, and then my next flight leaves in 35 minutes. Will that be enough time? I've never been to JFK, so not sure how far apart the gates are.

You need to be more specific - what airlines are you flying and where are you flying from and where are you going to? I can't answer the question with the limited information you've provided.

  • Del -> JFK -> RDU. Need to know terminal connection
    Aug 24, 2015
I am travelling from Del(India) to Jfk by Air India then JFK to RDU by Delta. Please provide me terminal connection for Delta and air india. and where custom happen. Do i need to checkout the baggage at JFK and checkin again for delta airlines.

At JFK you will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then go up to the departure level and check your bags with Delta (unless they are already tagged to RDU, in which case you can re-check them right after customs), then get your Delta boarding pass and go through security and to your departure gate which is also in Terminal 4.

  • connecting from Terminal 8 to Terminal 7, checking luggage
    Aug 24, 2015
Hi, I arrive to JFK from Boston in Terminal 8, then I take a plain to go to Argentina from terminal 7. These are 2 different reservations, so I have to re-check my luggage. How do I get from one terminal to the other one? Where do I check my bags? Do I have to go though security?

You go between terminals on the AirTrain. You will have to claim your bags first, take them on the airtrain, and then re-check them at the Aerolineas Argentinas counter in T7, then go through security.

Hello, I have a connect flight from JFK to Calgary Canada with Westjet at 18:00 and my flight to JFK is arriving 2.15 Hours before it (at 15:45), the both on terminal 4, is that enough time ? also I`m non-us.. Thanks

Where is the flight into JFK coming from? were both tickets purchased on the same reservation or separately?

Hey, it's coming from Israel, and unfortunately It's a separate reservation...

It will be very difficult for you to get to the WestJet check-in desk before the bag cutoff.

Thanks for the comment. So if i`m coming without baggage (just carry-on) I should be alright ?

Yes, with no checked baggage you should be OK if you are able to check in for your westjet flight online before leaving Israel.

  • Terminal 4 to Terminal 1
    Aug 23, 2015
We purchased tickets from AeroMexico that include a first segment flown by Delta from Boston into JFK, Terminal 4 at 12:13 p.m. We need to be at Terminal 1 for a 1:50 p.m. flight. Is this reasonable/possible? If so, any tips?

Yes, that is definitely possible. You just have to take the AirTrain from T4 to T1 and go through security.

  • Going through Security at T4 vs T2
    Aug 23, 2015
Hello! We arrive from BCN to T4 at 4:45PM (on January 1st) and we have a connection flight to SAN at 7:25PM in T2, I've read we have to follow several steps after landing in NY (going through US Immigration, claiming our bags, going through US Customs, re-checking our bags) before going through security and finally boarding the next flight. Since we only have 2hrs and 40 mins between flights; what would it be faster: going through security at T4 and then take the Delta shuttle to T2 OR take the Airtrain at T4 and then pass security at T2? Do you think 2 hours and 40 minutes would be enough time? (we are not US citizens). Thank you very much in advance!

First, make sure your flight to SAN is departing from T2, many Delta domestic flights at JFK now use T4. Secondly. it is probably faster to take the AirTrain to T2 and go through security there vs. going through security in T4 and taking the shuttle. Finally, yes, I think you have enough time.

Perfect then. Thank you very much for your help!

  • T8 to T1 to T7 transfer
    Aug 23, 2015
Hi everyone, looking for some advise in this situation. I fly in from Toronto on an AA flight to T8 and then have a 4 hour layover until my QF flight from T7. As a Priority Pass member, there's no lounges in either T8 or T7 so I was thinking of spending my layover in one of the lounges at T1 and then go catch my flight at T7. I am aware that I can easily take the terminal train to go between terminals in no time but my question is do I have to clear security each I time I transfer terminals because if this is the case it would be waste of time to go through security twice going from T8 to T1 to T7. I would just hate to spend 4 hours sitting at T7 at the gate, that's why I'm looking at what my options are. Thank you.

Yes, you have to go through security every time you enter a new terminal. T7 isn't that bad. It's generally pretty quiet and civilized compared to the other JFK terminals.

  • Connection Time Opinion - Help!
    Aug 23, 2015
We are traveling from Toronto to Jfk (Delta 4100) arriving at 7:49 then departing jfk to St. Thomas at 8:35 (on Delta 465). Booked together through Delta so I thought it would be fine, but we have never been to jfk and this seems really short! Will we be able to make this connection? What terminals are we likely to be in (so I can memorize the map), thank you!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto, both flights are in Terminal 4. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If your flight from Toronto is on-time you have enough time.

Thank you so much ZAP! I feel much better knowing they will be in the same terminal, fingers crossed for an on time flight.

  • T5->T4 baggage
    Aug 22, 2015
Hi I fly in from Boston and arrive at terminal 5 at 11:33 (B6 717) I then leave at 14.25 (UN 2222) to VKO at terminal 4. Do I must to recheck baggage (take it at T5 and drop off at T4)?> pse help

If they were bought on the same reservation then you do not have to claim your bags, if you purchased two separate reservations then you will have to claim and re-check your bags.
