  • T8 to T4
    Apr 11, 2016
Hello, I'm a 70 years old woman, My TAM flight to JFK arrive at 07:40 AM in T8 and my Virgin American flight to Las take off at 09:30 in T4, it's in the same ticket and I have 2 baggages. As you know Brazilian have the right to carry 2 baggages with 70 pounds, if your flights are in the same ticket. I've already bought it and I know that I don't have time enough. But if you think it is possible, please say... My question are: 1) When I arrive, will I need to go to claim my bags, take the AirTrain to Terminal 8, re-check my bags, and go through security? 2) Whether I miss the flight, what probably will happen, what should I do? Go to Virgin desck and ask to get the followying flight to LAS? If there is not flight directly to LAS in the same day. Or should I go to TAM desk?

You will need to claim your bags, but since they should be tagged to LAS because everything is on the same reservation, you can re-check in the re-check desk in Terminal 8, then take the Airtrain to Terminal 4, get your Virgin America boarding pass if TAM isn't able to issue it, and go through security. If you miss your connection you will go to Virgin America to be rebooked. They will probably rebook you to Las Vegas through Los Angeles or San Francisco because I think there's only one daily JFK-LAS nonstop.

Thanks ZAP, Just to clarify, as probably I will have done my check in with Virgin America, I will need to claim the bags in T8, pass by the immigration, leave the bags in T8 connections baggages, take the AirTrain to Terminal 4 and go through the Security. You didn't say anything about the time. ps: the flight comes from Brazil.

Yes, that is the procedure and you have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • How much connection time?
    Apr 11, 2016
I'm about to book a flight into JFK (from Atlanta), connecting on Delta to Milan (MXP). And the reverse, coming home. How much connection time should I allow?

This is Delta, all the way.

An hour on the way to Milan should be OK. On the way back I'd want at least 2 hours.

Choices include 2 hrs 45 mins outbound, or 4 hrs. Is there any point in picking the longer time? Thanks for the input!

On the outbound the 2 hrs 45 minutes definitely sounds fine.

  • Transfer between JetBlue and Ukraine
    Apr 10, 2016
I am transferring between JetBlue and Ukraine International. I know there was no interchange agreement for baggage. I have approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes each direction for my layover. Is this enough?

On your way to Kiev you should have enough time as long as your JetBlue flight is on-time. On the way back it's possible but there's no time to spare if there are any delays (which are pretty common on Ukraine International).

  • Do I have enough time to connect to international flight?
    Apr 9, 2016
Hi fellow travelers! I'm flying into JFK on Delta, supposed to land at 9:14PM, in either terminal 2 or 4. Only carry-on luggage (a duffel really). Will I have time to make my connection in Terminal 1 on a Norwegian Air flight to LGW at 11PM? Thank you for your help!

That's just enough time if you are able to check in for your Norwegian flight online and your Delta flight arrives on-time.

Thank you for your quick reply! Fingers crossed everything runs smoothly :-)

  • Connecting at JFK
    Apr 8, 2016
My mum is flying in from Chicagoon Delta arriving at 4.20pm and flying out with BA at 19.35 to London - will she need to carry her bag to the other terminal or is there a re-check in desk

She will have to claim her bag from Delta in Terminal 4 and take it with her on the AirTrain to check with British Airways in Terminal 7.

Do you think she will have enough time

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Connection from Providenciales to London
    Apr 7, 2016
We fly in from Providenciales airport to JFK (JetBlue flight) at 6.17pm on a Wednesdayand then fly out with Virgin Atlantic to London at 22.30pm that same night. They are separate reservations and we have checked baggage. We are from the UK. Do you think this will be enough time to make our flight to London?

4+ hours should be plenty of time.

  • Customs
    Apr 7, 2016
My son is flying from Sydney to Dubai to JFK. He then needs to get a connecting flight to Boston. He is arriving at JFK on a Monday at 9:35 AM. How long will it take to go through customs and do you think he would have enough time to catch an 11:30 AM flight to Boston?

What airlines? Otherwise nobody can answer your question.

Since only Emirates flies Dubai-JFK I will assume he is on Emirates. I recommend at least 3 hours for his connection. So no, I do not recommend an 11:30 flight to Boston.

  • Connect from American to British Airways
    Apr 7, 2016
I am looking at connecting from an American Airlines flight from St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, to a British Airways flight to London. I will have two separate reservations and I will have checked baggage. What minimum connection time at JFK would you recommend?

Since you'll probably have to pick up your bags at T8 and then recheck them at T7, I'd say 3 hours is safe. You won't need to clear customs when you land from St. Thomas, which is good.

Won't American be able to through check the bags from STT to LHR bearing in mind both are in One World ?

  • Domestic to internstional Flight
    Apr 6, 2016
I will arrive with Delta 3864 at JFK 20:12 in a domestic flight and would like to leave with Lufthansa LH 405 at 21:55. (I) is this enough time ? (II) How do I come from one gate to the other ? (III) Can I ask at the Delta check in, that they route my luggage directly through to the final arrival airport in FFM ?

If you bought two separate reservations, Delta will not check your bags through to Lufthansa. You will have to claim your bags, take the airtrain from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1, re-check them with Lufthansa and go through security. I think you barely have enough time to do that if everything goes perfectly. I personally wouldn't try it.

Many thanks, feedbavk is very much appreciated

  • Time for Terminal Change
    Apr 6, 2016
I arrive ex JHB on flight SAA 203 at 06:40 trminal 4 and leave for Toronto on flight AA4200 at 09:25 at terminal 8. Is this okay?

That should be just about enough time.

  • MXP (Milan) - JFK (New York) - MCO (Orlando)
    Apr 6, 2016
I'm scheduled to arrive in JFK, New York from MXP, Milan at 19:00 EST on a Friday night on Emirates at Terminal 4. My connecting flight leaves from the JetBlue Terminal 5 at 21:50 EST. This happens to be the last flight to Orlando for the day. These are different reservations, not under the same itinerary. I also have to go through customs and immigration as I am on a work visa in the USA. So, I will have to collect my baggage from T4, go to T5, Check in the luggage, go through security check. Considering all the above, is this enough time ?

It's enough time if the flight from Milan is on-time.

  • T4 to T8 in JFK
    Apr 7, 2016
I will travel fom Dubai to JFK T4. on April 08 and depart through T8 to Toronto after about 2 hrs. My firtst question; Did I need transit visa? My other question did I need to collect my baggage and chech in for the other flight (my both tickets are linked in same booking)

If your citizenship requires a visa to visit the USA, you need a transit visa to transit the USA. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US CUstoms, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to your departure terminal, then go through security. You barely have enough time.

If you are not a US citizen or eligible to get a visa through the Visa Waiver Program, 2 hours will probably not be enough. T4 has the largest volume of international arrivals at JFK and the line for non-citizens is generally long and slow-moving. Don't risk it, especially with rechecked bags.

  • an hr layover enough time?
    Apr 9, 2016
I'm planning on flying on Delta from BWI to JFK to NCE...with only an hr layover. Is that enough time to make it from one terminal to another? And if it's different terminals, do I go through security again?

You shouldn't have to change terminals, both flights will be in Terminal 4. If for some reason you do have to change terminals, Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security between Terminal 2 and 4. You should have enough time.

We will be reaching at terminal 4 by west jet at 17.10 Will be leaving for doha-mumbai by qatar airways at 22.00 We are senior citizens with maximum luggage. Will 4 and half hours be enough for our transfer from T4 to T8 and what will be the mode of transfer and how do we avail it?

Shakun, that should be enough time. All terminals are connected outside security by the AirTrain.

How easy is it to get the inter terminal train to move from T4 toT8? What will the ticket cost? Is it possible to take my luggage trolly in the train as I will be carrying heavy luggage with me? Will I get sufficient time to board and alight from the train with heavy luggage. I am 65 yr old lady. Does the air port provide some assistance in my transfer as I have only 4 hr.from flight to flight.

we are having 3hours and 10minutes from landing to jfk to catching the plane to seattle. how many percent is it that we won't fit in the time? it will be a peak time, june 3rd

If both tickets are on the same reservation and the flight from Moscow is on-time, that should definitely be enough time.

It is not on the same reservation..we are going to seattle and then to juneau(alaska), so it is two more flights we are risking. Thats why im so scared

In that case it's barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.
