We have a flight into JFK from LHR in July on BA. It is scheduled to land at 3:50PM. I used miles for this flight. Now I need to get a ticket to fly home from NYC. It looks like JFK is pricey for domestic flights, LGA is much more reasonably priced. Question: Is it doable to fly into JFK at 350pm and catch a flight from LGA at 750PM? That gives us 5 hours. Can we check in our baggage at JFK, or will we need to go through customs, get our luggage, transfer to LGA and check luggage in?
Yes, that should be possible - note however, that it's 4 hours, not 5. No, you cannot check your baggage in JFK. You will have to take it with you to LGA.
Thanks ZAP. You are correct it's 4 not 5 hours. Would you recommend that connection?
Yeah, you can probably make it, but also be aware that you will be going to LaGuardia at Rush Hour, that it will cost $30-$40 and that there is currently construction at LaGuardia, messing up traffic near it. If the difference in flight costs is less than $50 I wouldn't bother trying to change airports.
the price difference in pricing is about $175-200 per person; there are 4 of us. I am ok with hiring a shuttle or taxi and avoid any public transportation.
Also, we just got back from visiting NYC during the NYE week. We flew into LGA, but out of EWR. LGA construction is something.
Hi, I am flying from Dublin to Durham, NC via JFK terminal 5. I have booked one ticket for whole flight from Dublin to Durham. Could you please advise if I will need to claim my bags, undergo immigration after arrival to JFK T5? I have layover time of 1h50m between flights but I hope I will be able to stay in secure zone.
You pre-clar US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.
Hi, I am arriving at Terminal 8 from Alaska Airlines at 4:07 pm and has another flight in Terminal 1 departing at 7:20 pm (Aeroflot Airlines). It's two separate registrations and I was wondering whether 3 hours is enough for transfer between domestic T8 to international T1 flights. Thank you for the answer!
Yes, that should be enough time if the Alaska flight is on-time.

I'm travelling from Glasgow to San Francisco via New York with Delta Airlines. We have a layover time of 1hr30mins between flights. Both flights will use Terminal 4.

Will this be enough time? Will I need to clear customs at JFK or at the airport in SanFrancisco?

Many thanks
In JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
We are flying in tomorrow from MSP and arrive in JFK on Delta at 6:40pm and then we are on a flight on Delta to San Juan that leaves at 7:30pm. So we have a 50 minute window is that enough time? If so what is the best way of doing this?
That is possible. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in T4 and depart from T2 or vise-versa, Delta runs a shuttle between them inside security, but it does make it more difficult.
Ill be arriving to JFK and catching a transfer flight to Europe. I did not book the flights together and will need to collect my luggage and recheck them with the other airline.

Will i have to go through security again?
Yes, you will have to go through security again.
Hello. What is the minimum connecting time in JFK for Delta to Egypt Air?
I wouldn't recommend less than 3 hours.
We're flying on delta from Dublin to JFK. We have approximately 2 1/2 hours to get to our connnecting flight on jet blue. Will we have to go through customs again even though we're flying out of Dublin ? And will we make our connecting flight?
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. All you have to do in JFK is claim your bags, take them on the AirTrain to Terminal 5, re-check them with Jetblue and go through security. You should have enough time.
We're arriving at JFK terminal 7 (BA) from LHR, connecting to AA at terminal 8. I assume we do immigration and customs at terminal 7 then hand our bags back there, before getting the airtrain round to terminal 8 and going back through security there? We have 2 hours 50 so should be plenty of time?

Also I assume Airtrain runs in terminal order, ie we have one stop from 7 to 8, or does it run the other way and we'll have a trip around the airport?

Would terminal 7 to 8 be walkable and if so, would we need to go through security.
Yes, you have the procedure correct. You have enough time. The AirTrain runs both ways. You have to go through security in T8 regardless.
My husband and I will be flying from Denver to JFK and taking a connecting flight to Barcelona - both legs on Delta. Our layover is 2.5 hours. Is this enough time to make the connection? Do we have to collect our bags and recheck them? Thank you!
Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, nothing with your bags. If you arrive in Terminal 2, Delta runs a shuttle inside security to Terminal 4 where you depart.
