  • AA Connection to BA
    Dec 3, 2015
I'm looking to make a connection from an AA flight landing at JFK at 2123 for a BA flight that departs to LHR at 2310. I believe I will have to check in at customs at JFK. Will I have enough time to make this connection? Is it possible to check in at DFW first?

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. If you are just flying DFW-JFK-LHR and both flights are on the same reservation then you will be checked into both flights in Dallas. All you have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain from T8 to T7 and go through security. You should have plenty of time.

Thank you, ZAP. Just to clarify, the initial AA ticket from DFW will be purchased separately, because the BA flight is on a voucher. So, I believe I will have to check in again at JFK. Do you think I will have enough time then?

In that case I think it's barely enough time. There is a chance you could get stuck in New York overnight if it's late.

Thank you! I agree and made alternate plans. Appreciate the back up!

I am flying from Mumbai to JFK by Air India and my domestic flight is from JFK to Tampa by Jet blue. I have purchased two differe tickets. Do I need to check in my luggage after custom at different terminal?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 5 and check your bags with JetBlue, get your JetBlue boarding pass, and go through security.

  • Flight connection with ONLY DELTA AIRLINES
    Dec 2, 2015
Hello, My destination will be: Barcelona-Amsterdam-JFK- (Mexico), ALL FLIGHTS WITH DELTA, my plane arrives to JFK at 1:03 pm (Terminal 4) and have my last travel at 3:10 pm (Terminal 1). Considering im American Citizen going to migration is faster than with people from other countries. My question is what do I have to do, do I claim baggage? If so do I have to do a re-check at Terminal 1 or Terminal 4 (where I arrived)? Or do I just get pass costums and go without my bagge straight to Terminal 1 ? ... Thank you

By the way, if so, the re-check desk is right at the baggage claim? Do I just leave my bag in the desk or do I have to do a whole process?

No Delta flights use Terminal 1. If your last flight is from Terminal 1 it will be operated by Aeromexico. After arrival in Terminal 4 you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 1 and go through security. You should have just about enough time.

I am flying from Antigua to NY JFK with American Airlines, have 2,5 hours at JFK to clear custom and check in again for my next flight from JFK to London with British Airways. I purchased both flight through American Airlines on the same reservation. I will be on a touristy Visa. Do I have enough time? Thanks

Yes, that is enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 8, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 7, go through security and to your departure gate. American should be able to issue you both boarding passes in Antigua.

  • Time for domestic to international w/ checked bags
    Nov 25, 2015
What is the suggested time to allow between flights purchased on separate tickets? Coming on on Delta domestic flight (T4), departing on Norwegian (T1) and checking bags

I recommend 2.5 to 3 hours. You will have to transfer your bags between airlines yourself.

  • Delta Terminal 4 to JFK to Iberia Terminal 7
    Nov 24, 2015
We are flying on Delta from Savannah, Ga to JFK likely arriving in terminal 4 and then heading to terminal 7 to fly international with Iberia to Madrid. These are two separate tickets. What will be our process for security? Where will we need to go at JFK after our flight from Savannah, GA to collect our bags and where will we take them for our Iberia flight?

You will go to the terminal 4 baggage claim, claim your bags, go to the AirTrain, take it to T7, check your bags with Iberia at the Iberia ticket counter and go through security.

  • Domestic to International flight at terminal 5
    Nov 24, 2015
My domestic flight arrives at JFK terminal 5 and and I depart on an Aer Lingus international flight from terminal 5. Do I have to go back through security?

If both flights were purchased on the same reservation and your bags are checked through to your final destination, no you do not. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Flying in from international on Delta with only an hour connection time. Is that enough to get thru customs and up to my departing gate?

flying in from SDQ (Santo Domingo DR arriving at 8a.m.) to DTW departing at 9a.m. all flights are on Delta. Can I clear customs and get up to gate in 1 hour?

No, 1 hour is impossible international to domestic at JFK. You need to contact Delta or your travel agent to either get a later flight to Detroit or be rebooked through another Delta hub such as Atlanta.

Arriving Air France/ Delta from CDG at 4:25 terminal 1. Need to get a connecting ticket on separate reservation for 1 of our travelers to ATL. How much time should I allow and will it be easier if we use Delta? Possibly one checked bag.

...and what will be process for ATL traveler if she has a bag? American citizen. Once through immigration and customs and rechecking her bag does she have to go through security again?

Yes, if purchasing two separate tickets she will have to take her bag to the second airline and re-check it and go through security after clearing US Immigration and Customs. She needs 2.5 hrs minimum for a connection like this.

  • Enough time?
    Nov 22, 2015
Hi I will be flying from Korea via Air Korea arriving at JFK at 7:30pm in terminal 1 and then have a connecting flight to BUF bufflao NY via delta airline at 9:05pm in terminal 4. Would there be enough time? Thanks!

There is no "Air Korea". It is "Korean Airlines" You barely have enough time for your connection if your Korean flight is on-time. Pack some extra clothes because there's a very real chance you'll get stuck at JFK overnight.

  • Connection between JFK terminal 8 and 1
    Nov 21, 2015
If I'm arriving to JFK termnial 8 at 10:10 am with Delta, or American Airlines, and have my flight from Terminal 1 at 11:55, will I be able to make it? Which airline is better to choose? Thank you, your advises are very valuable for me!

If purchasing two separate reservations either is possible but somewhat risky. Delta and American are both about the same distance from Terminal 1 on the AirTrain.

  • ? Luggage Transfer
    Nov 19, 2015
Arriving into JFK Terminal 4 @ 20.00hr from Boston with AirFrance and flying out from Terminal 4 @ 21.18 to Dublin with AirFrance. Is this enough time between Arriving and Departing JFK and is it possible to book luggage from Boston to Dublin with no luggage collection in JFK?

Note that both flights will be operated by Delta. You will arrive in Terminal 2 or 4 and depart from Terminal 4. Delta operates a shuttle inside security between 2 and 4 if you need to change terminals. You will not have to claim your luggage at JFK.

  • JFK to SJO - American Airlines
    Nov 19, 2015
I'm arriving at JFK T7 from LHR with British Airways at 11.05, I'm then traveling to SJO on American Airlines from T8 at 13:30. Is the 2.25 hours enough to clear customs (I have a travel VISA) and make it from T7 to T8 in time to catch my flight?

I'm not checking any luggage, only have a carry-on backpack

With carry-on only that should be enough time.

  • Air France International to Air France (delta) Domestic connection
    Nov 18, 2015
Hi. I will be traveling with my 3.5 yr old daughter in December from Warsaw to Paris, Paris to JFK, JFK to Miami. I know I have to pickup baggage, go through Immigration/Customs and drop baggage off. My flight should land at 1:27pm at JFK in T4 and my flight to Miami departs 3:10pm (supposedly from T2). As I will be by myself with small child and another on the way. Entire flight purchased on the same ticket using the same airline Air France. Will 1:43 be enough to pick up the bags, go through Imigration/Customs/Drop off and eventually to T2? How far away is baggage pickup from Immigration/Customs? Are there any carts to use for the bags?

Immigration, baggage claim, customs, and re-check are all in a sequence in roughly the same area. Yes, they have carts to use for your baggage in the international baggage claim. You should have just enough time assuming everything goes smoothly.

Flying from Barbados to sanfrancisco I have an 11 hr layover. Will I di immigration at jfk?

Yes, in JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs. If your bags are tagged through to SFO you can re-check them at the re-check desk, otherwise you will bring them to the check in counter of your second airline, then re-check them, and go through security.
