Flying from Dublin to JKF then MSP and finally Winnipeg, we have a 2 hour layover at JFK, is that enough time to clear customs and make our MSP flight?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

    That makes it easy, thanks.

I am flying from BOS to JFK on JetBlue. I then have to connect to AirChina to PEK within 2hrs 15min. Do I have to claim my baggage at JFK and transfer it to AirChina? If so, is this enough time?

I'll add that all booking was done on AirChina's site.

No, you do not have to claim your baggage in JFK. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from Terminal 5 where you will arrive to Terminal 1 where you depart and go through security. You should have enough time as long as your JetBlue flight is close to on-time.

  • 4 hours from JFK to EWR
    Dec 17, 2015
Hi! We're flying for the first time from Vienna (Austria) to the USA (Sun 20th) We have a connecting flight from EWR at 7pm, we're landing at JFK at 2:45pm. Is there enough time?

Yes, it's possible, especially since you're traveling on a Sunday. You can take a taxi direct for about $100 and it won't take you much more than an hour. Or you can take the JFK AirTrain to the LIRR to Penn Station to the NJT Train to the EWR AirTrain, that will only be about $10 per person but will take about 2 hours.

  • 2 hours connection at JFK

Hi, I am arriving to JFK at 7pm (from Bermuda, JetBlue), and catching Cathay Pacific flight to Vancouver at 9pm. I have a checked-in bag. Will I be able to catch the connecting flight? Thank you.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Bermuda.

Thanks ZAP. Just got another delay on JetBlue, and the estimated arrival time to JFK is now 7:24pm. Hope there is still enough time...

  • 2 hrs

Hi, I will be flying in from Vancouver and have only 2 hrs before my next flight to Florida. Purchased 1 ticket Cathay / JetBlue

    That should be enough time.

  • 51 Minutes??
    Dec 16, 2015
Hi - We're looking at flying JAX to the UK (LBA) with Delta changing planes at JFK. Both flights say Terminal 4. - Is 51 minutes enough?

Yes, if your flight from Jacksonville is on-time that is enough time. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • 1 hour connection in the same terminal
    Jun 22, 2016
Arriving at JFK at 7:52pm, and my next flight to Paris is at 9:05pm from the same terminal (8) I booked my ticket through a single travel agent. Not sure if i would be able to make it in one hour. Please advice?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do at JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you so much for the prompt reply. So i don't have to claim my luggage again in JFK, or go through the long security line up?

Yes, that is correct, assuming your first flight is domestic.

Actually i will be coming from Toronto when i arrive to NY on flight number (4092) and the flight after is (120) going from NY to Paris. would that be an issue, for catching my next flight?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto, so still, all you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Landing term 5 domestic, departing term 4 international. Luggage is checked through. What is best way from 5 to 4 please.

  • Do I need to re-check baggage ?
    Dec 15, 2015
I'm taking a flight from LHR on Virgin and connecting at JFK and heading to BOS. It's all on the same ticket. I wanted to know if I'll have to re-check my bags at JFK, or if Virgin will do this automatically. I believe that I have to re-check, but I wanted to know just in case I 'accidentally' miss my flight to BOS - will I still have my luggage?

Yes, you will have to go through SU Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate (assuming your departure gate is also in Terminal 4)

  • Going from Terminal 4 to Terminal 7 - no check bags
    Dec 15, 2015
Arriving at Terminal 4 on Emirates at 8:15 am - no check bags - leaving on A/C out of Terminal 7 at 10:25 am. Is that enough time? How long on AirTrain between 4 and 7? How long will it take to clear customs coming in and again when leaving? Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time. It will take you about 8 minutes to get from T4 to T7 on the AirTrain. You will only have to get your Air Canada boarding pass and go through security in T7. There us no US customs when leaving the US.

  • CDG-JFK-FLL Delta
    Dec 14, 2015
arriving from CDG to JFK, 1:35 lay over, flying to FLL, both Delta flights. do I have enough time? should I take my luggage at T4? Iranian passport. thanks

Are both tickets on the same reservation? If so your bags will be tagged to FLL and you can re-check them after the re-check desk after clearing customs. If your first flight is operated by Delta it will arrive in Terminal 4. If it is operated by Air France it will arrive in Terminal 1. Your flight to FLL could depart from Terminal 2 or 4. You have barely enough time.

Tnx! Both operated by Delta, i arrive to T4 & fly from T2. Do i need more time for security & ... Because of my iranian passeport?

Both tickets are the same réservation. Tnx again

I don't think security will view you differently. However, you might have to spend more time at immigration. Then again since you have to get a Visa to enter the US, they may assume that the visa interview asked you all the relevant questions and they won't ask you anything.

  • thank you zap

  • JFK term 8 on AA connect to QF term 7 on QF - 2.5hrs ON Dec 15th, 2015
    Dec 11, 2015
Hi, I arrive into JFK on domestic AA flight into terminal 8 at 3.30pm . I have a onward flight at terminal 7 with Qantas at 6pm. There are 2.5 hrs BUT I have 2 separate tickets. The flights are for in 4 days time on Dec 15th, if you have any suggestions on tips on how to move through the terminals, I'd appreciate it, thank you

You just have to claim your bags from AA in T8, take your bags on the airtrain one stop to T7, and check them with Qantas and go through security. You have enough time.

Thank you Zap, I appreciate your time, I'm just worried because my flight with Qantas is international and everyone has been telling me I need at 3-3.5 hours between connections. Do you think AA will check my luggage through to Qantas?

You can show your Qantas itinerary to the agent at your origin airport and ask. However, they are not obligated to. Also, 2.5 hours should be enough time as long as your AA flight is on-time.

  • Connection Mexico - Dubai
    Dec 14, 2015
Hi, I will arrive to JFK from Mexico at 7:20 and have next flight to dubai at 10:40, do you think time is ok? ANd on my way back I arrive to JFK at 14:10 and have the flight to mexico at 17:00.. do you have any tip? I want to document bags but I dont know if I should not.

    Airlines are Aeromexico and Emirates.

Yes, that should be enough time both ways. I don't know why you mean "document bags". Do you mean check bags? Yes, I think you have time to check bags, but note that you will have to claim them to go through US Customs both ways. If you purchased two separate tickets you will have to take them to the Emirates check-in counter at JFK on the way there and the Aeromexico check-in counter on the way back.

thank u very much, yes i meant check bags, im aware id have to go through us customs, i believe time's ok i just want to be sure if i can check them or i should totally avoid checking bags and only take a bag on the overhead compartment. thank u very much.

  • Connecting Flight
    Dec 10, 2015
Hello, I will be traveling from Toronto YYZ to JFK via AC 8906 arriving T1 at 22:05. I have to connect to CI 11 at T4 departing at 00:20. Tickets were purchased separately, I'm Canadian and have no bags to check-in. Would 2h15mins be enough time for connection? Thank you.

On my return flight, I will arrive JFK T4 via CI 12 at 19:15 and connecting to DL 4209, which leaves T4 at 20:53. Tickets were also purchased separately; I will have no bags to check-in. Would 1h38mins be enough time to connect?

On your outbound flight - Air Canada does not use T1. They use T7. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto, so all you have to do is take the AirTrain to T4, get your CI boarding pass, and go through security. You should have enough time. On your return, it will be much more difficult as you will have to go through US Immigration, customs, get your Delta boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security all in less time. Although with no checked bags I think you can do it.

Thank you very much for your response, greatly appreciate it!
