Hi I am due in at Term 7 from the UK and have approx 2 hrs 15 mins to get thro to Term 8 for flight to Nashville. Could someone let me know the process and if in current situation I have sufficent time to use the Airtran? (PS I see that it might be better to use the Outer ring counter clockwise to get to Term 8.). I have to clear customs using ESTA. thank you in advance

You will arrive in Terminal 7, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal 8 and go through security. The signs will tell you which direction train to get on to go to Terminal 8. You should have just enough time.

thank you that is very useful and clear.

  • Transfering from terminal 4 to 1

I am arrving at terminal 1 from Orlando at 15:00 om with Delta and depart 16:20 pm from terminal 4 with AF to Paris. Is that enough with security check etc.. Please advise ? I am worried as less than 1,30 h

You have the terminals reversed in the body of your question. You will arrive in Terminal 4 and depart from Terminal 1. You will have to go through security in Terminal 1. You should have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

HI! Flying from MSY-JFK_KIV, the flights are on 2 different tickets (JetBlue and Turkish). So, arrive at JFK at 10 :00am at T5 and at 12:25 pm at T1 I have the flight with Turkish Airlines. Is 2 hours enough time to catch the transfer? Can I register my bags (2) at MSY for the entire route, or I need to collect the bags and check them once again? Thank You

If both tickets are on the same reservation then your bags will be checked through to your final destination and you can make this. If you purchased two separate reservations this will be very difficult, bordering on impossible.

Thank You! Sorry I didn't get it. So, I have about 2 hours to get from terminal 5 to Terminal 1, is it enough or impossible? I guess in your reply , you told me about baggage. thank you once again

You need to let me know if your flights are on the same reservation or not.

Nope, 2 different reservations. one from New Orleans to JFK(Jet BLUe) and the second :JFK-KIV (Turkish Airlines)

All I'm asking if I have enough time to catch my flight, Thank you for your patience

Then no, that probably isn't enough time.

  • Connecting flight from Terminal 4 to terminal 7 and the opposite back

Hi, I'll be flying to JFK on Virgin America, arriving @3:50pm terminal 4. Then will take Iceland Air at 8:40pm at Teminal 7. Since I booked these 2 not at the same time, so I assume that we'll have to wait to take the luggage from Virgin, then take the AirTrain to terminal 7. So basically i have 4 hours and 50 minutes, I believe that should be plenty, however, after hearing horrible waits with the TSA last week, I wonder if this is enough time. Also, on the way back, the same situation, arriving at JFK at 12:25pm at terminal 7 and leaving JFK to LAX @4:55pm, basically having only 3 hours 30 minutes, and I've read that I would need at least 3-5 hours for this. Can you also comment and any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

I think you should have enough time, although the return will be more difficult.

Thanks. Can you elaborate why the return will be difficult and how to improve upon the chance?

Yes, on the return you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, change terminals, re-check your bags, and go through security, and you have less time.

Thanks again. I guess i have no choice now. Worst case probably will catch the next flight out.

I am a non US citizen arriving to JFK at 8:40 am from Dubai (Emirates airlines, terminal 4) then need to catch a plane at 12 pm (AA, terminal 8) from two separate reservations. Will I have enough time to get my bags, go through immigration/customs, change terminals and recheck my bags and check in at AA? Thank you

  • Terminal 4 to terminal 7 flight connection

Hi there, I fly from Vegas to JFK terminal 4 with AA on 9th July and land at 6.01am. I do need to collect checked in bags firstly, and then get the airtrain to terminal 7 to fly club world British airways to London Heathrow for an 8am flight. So I have 2 hours from the moment I land to get bags and my check in, through security, is that enough time? Normally as long as I get to the British airways check in desk (I have first class check in) an hour prior to flight this is enough, but is this ok, or impossible! Once I check in anyhow and get bags checked in they don't normally fly without anyone!!!

AA does not use Terminal 4. AA flights to JFK arrive in Terminal 8. If both tickets are on the same reservation you won't have to do anything with your bags in JFK. You will just have to go to Terminal 7 and go through security. You should have enough time even if you have to claim and re-check your bags.

Thanks for this. Sadly not on same reservation so do have to pick up bags, but thanks for advising should be fine. I cannot see us getting to check in later than 7am and that's worst case (unless plane is late!)

Arriving on American flight from LAX on May 22 at 4:38 at Terminal 8, and departing on an American flight to Barcelona at 5:40, also Terminal 8. I'll have 1 checked bag. Can I make this connection (any problems with security or baggage)?

You don't have to go through security or do anything with your baggage. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Delta flight arrives into JFK from ATH, Terminal 4, on 5.15.16 at 4:23 PM. No checked bags. Separate flight from JFK to SEA departing at 7:25 PM, unsure of Terminal at this point. Will we need to recheck bags again? Will we have enough time to catch flight home to SEA?

I mean, will we need to go through security again, not recheck bags. Thanks!

I arrive in JFK into terminal 8 and have a 2 hour connection departing terminal 8 to Florida, is this enough time and how far in terminal 8 is it between arrival and departures?

Where are you flying into Terminal 8 from? I can't answer your question without that information.

We fly from Birmingham UK to Florida connecting in JFK with American Airlines

Could you also tell me the process, will I have to collect my luggage in JFK, the travel agents say it should be checked through to my destination, I wont see it from Uk until Florida is this right?

Your travel agent is wrong - they clearly haven't traveled to the US much. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

We arrive on May 9 on a Delta flight from DFW at 2:45pm and leave on an AA flight to Scotland at 7:10. Do we need to recheck our bags and go through security again and is this enough time if so?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags in Terminal 4, take them on the AirTrain to Terminal 8, re-check them with American, and go through security. You should have plenty of time.

We are flying Delta from ATL and landing in JFK on May 6th at 8:15PM. Assuming everything is on time, do I have enough time to get to DL446 to KEF at 9:24PM.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

We arrive in terminal 1 and have to get to terminal 8. We will have 4 large suitcases, a carry-on, and a cat in a bag. We are two people. Is it possible to go the whole way with a luggage cart - even if we take the train?

Yes, you can take rental carts on the AirTrain between Terminals.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will have to go through security again in Terminal 1. Also, if you are flying Delta you may arrive in Terminal 2, not Terminal 4.

I'm flying from Puerto Rico to Canada with a connecting flight at JFK. I have 1 hour between arrival and departure to Canada. Is this possible? Do I have to go through customs at JFK or is San Juan-New York considered a domestic flight?

San Juan-New York is considered a domestic flight. What airline are you flying?
