  • CONNECTIONS BETWEEN TERMINAL 4 AND 1
    Jul 23, 2015

Hi we are arriving from Tampa to terminal 4 and leaving on an Air France flight from Terminal1. We have only 80 mins between flights but it is on 1 ticket and booked right through. Is this enough time to connect and how do we get from Terminal 1 to T4

You take the AirTrain from T4 to T1. You should have enough time. you will have to go through security again in T1.

Hi there! I've booked a flight (same ticket) with a 2:30 h connection in JFK from a domestic flight and an intl flight (by two different carriers at two different terminals). My question is- what am I need to do at JFK? Is it just going through security (since I'll check in for both in advance) and border control? Do I need to pick up my luggage as well? Thank you very much!

All you have to do is take the AirTrain from your arrival terminal to your departure terminal and go through security. You should have plenty of time. There is no US Border control when leaving the US.

Hi I'm arriving to T4 JFK from Iceland and going to Orlando from T2 JFK do I need to pick up my check-in bag at the baggage claim down stairs or can I go straight from T4 to T2 when I arrive and also is it easy to travel from T4 to T2 this is my first time in JFK :)

You will arrive in T4, go though US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then either go through security in T4 and take the Delta shuttle bus to T2 or take the AirTrain to T2 and go through security there.

I'm arriving on Virgin, then leaving on a Delta flight to CHS 1 hr 40 minutes later. Is that enough time? Am flying on a single ticket, with baggage checked through, in mid September.

That should be barely enough time. You will have to claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check it at the re-check desk.

Yes, that should be enough time. You should be at Aeroflot check in by noon at the latest.

  • Terminal transfer with luggages

I am arriving by Jetblue connecting for Emirates after more than eight hours at a different terminal, and Jetblue is refusing to transfer automatically. If I have to pick up my luggage and transfer myself what is the best option? I will be traveling alone possibly with two or three pieces of luggage.

Just collect your bags and drag them to the AIrTrain and to Terminal 4. It shouldn't be that difficult considering that you have several hours.

  • Connecting from SeaTac to JFK to West Africa

Hi, I am traveling with Delta from Seattle to arrive in JFK (Terminal 4) by 6:00am and have to connect with Royal Air Maroc (Terminal 1) before 9:00am to travel to West Africa. Is that enough time to get from one terminal to the other with checked baggage?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Thank you for responding. Quick question: do you mean it should be okay getting from baggage claim at Terminal 4 through baggage check-in at terminal 1?

Yes. The AirTrain connects them outside security. Once you get your bags it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get to the check in at Terminal 1.

    Thanks, I really do appreciate.

  • Going to different terminals with 2 Different flights

Hi me and my family will ariive at JFK from Dubai by Emirates at 13.50pm and i will be getting a Jetblue flight to Orlando on the same day. I presume i need to change terminals from T4 to T5. What i am afraid is if we take a 17.00pm flight from JFK to Orlando is the time of 3 hours enough to clear the customs take our checked baggage and re enter to another terminal and check in again or i need to get the next flight which is at 19.30pm. Thank you

3 hours is doable. It's about the minimum that I would recommend for this type of transfer.

  • Connecting to an international flight; T4-T5 w/2 hrs. time

I am flying in to T4 on Delta from Portland in early October. I then hope to catch an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin 2 hours later in T5. Is 2 hours enough time? These are separate tickets. Thanks in advance!

With checked baggage it would be very difficult for you to get yourself and your bags to the Aer Lingus check in desk before the bag cutoff. It would be doable without checked bags.

Thanks for the info. It made me think a bit harder as to how to manage the trip. The Portland departure was a last-minute change by my employer. It occurred to me that I should check ALL flights to DUB from PDX rather than trying to keep my previously-booked JFK departure. I found a flight through IAD that gets to me to DUB at the same time as my original flight. My employer will pay the change fee. All I have to hope is that I'm not late coming in to IAD because it's an hour and a half layover, but my bag will already be checked. Fingers crossed.

  • JFK Connection flight and checked baggage

Hi, I am a Canadian travelling from Toronto to JFK via TAM Air (Ter 8) arriving at JFK 6.30 pm. Have a connecting flight from Ter 4 at 10.30 pm. I believe I will do pre-customs at Toronto and I do have checked baggage. My question is is there enough time assuming TAM arrives at time to collect my baggage and re-check at Ter 4? Other question is how do I go about collecting the baggage at Ter 8 and go to Ter 4 (Via Air Train?) and re-check. Is 4 hrs enough time or all this? TIA.

You will NOT go through pre-clearance in Toronto (TAM does not use it). 4 hours should be enough time. You will arrive in T8, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, take your bags on the AirTrain to T4 and check them with your other airline.

I am arriving Terminal 4 Jfk on a domestic flight connecting to an international flight on opposite end of concoure B. I have a 1 hour and 10 Minute connection and require wheel chair assistance. Will that be enough time?

    That should be enough time.

Hi, I'm arriving at JFK from Milan at 7:00pm and leaving on an AA flight to Dallas the next day at 6:30am. I was planning on staying at the airport overnight, can I go through security that early? I'm only taking a carry-on so I don't need to check in anything.

No, you can't go through security until the day of your flight. The security checkpoints will reopen about 4:30 or 5 AM.

Hi, i'm traveling from TLV to JFK via El Al arriving at 5:50 am at T4, and hoping on catching a separate-booked flight to AUS via JetBlue departing at 8:08 am at T5. Is there a chance I can make it? My mom is going to go through the same flights but booked together and with checked bags, will that be easier for her (time-wise)?

Yes, that will make it easier for her since she won't have to worry about the bag check cutoff with JetBlue. It's possible to make it with two separate bookings, but it won't be easy. Perhaps you could have her check both bags under her name with El Al in TLV, so then you wouldn't have to transfer any bags yourself from El Al to JetBlue.

  • VX domestic to KU international

Do you have to leave Terminal 4 or go through security to get from Level 1 Arrivals (domestic) to the Terminal 4 Departure Levels (international)? Because I have already booked an international flight on Kuwait Airways (web says departs from Terminal 4) from New York JFK to London Heathrow which departs at 9:45pm. No checked luggage, only carry-ons. I am trying to decide whether it is worth a little more to book the San Francisco SFO to JFK flight on Virgin America (which lands in Terminal 4) instead of our usually preferred airline (which lands in a different terminal) if that will allow the layover time to be cut down from 6 hours and 45 minutes to 3 hours 45 minutes or even 2 hours?

If you fly Virgin America you can go directly to your Kuwait Airways departure gate without exiting security. However, you will probably have to get your Kuwait Airways boarding pass from either the Kuwait Airways gate, or the Kuwait airways check-in counter outside security. Either Way 3:45 is plenty of time.
