  • Time between terminals

WE are arrive on a BA flight from LHR arriving at 1845 and need to connect to probably a JetBlue flight to Boston. Can you tell me the terminals and how long I should set aside for terminal change and check in times. How do I get from terminal to terminal

You will arrive in Terminal 7. JetBlue uses Terminal 5. You could also book on American which uses Terminal 8 and earn BA miles. All terminals are connected outside security by the AirTrain.

Also, if you're purchasing two separate tickets you should leave at least 2.5 hours, preferably closer to 3 hours.

  • Enquiry on flight connections btw 2 terminals

Hi, I would arrive JFK from Carribean on JetBlue at Terminal 5 on a Fri at 7.15pm. I have a connecting filight on SingaporeAir at Terminal 4 from JFK to Franfurt at 8.55pm. Will 1hr40mins, do I have enough time to catch the connecting flight? Do I need to claim my bags, take the AirTrain and re-go through the security check-in custom at Terminal 4? Appreciate prompt advise. Thanks so much.

Additonal info. The flight is on 22 May. And the flight tickets are purchased on same day through the travel agent.

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then take the AirTrain to T4, then get your singapore boarding pass if you don't already have it, then go through security.

Thanks for your response. So is 1hr 40min enough time for the above?

  • Two hour layover time

Hi! Im traveling from Warsaw to Cancun with a stop in JFK. What do I have to do when I arrive there? and is it enough connection time? My first flight is with LOT and the secod with american airlines and two-hour layover. Thanks

I'm assuming you bought two separate tickets? You will arrive in Terminal 1, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take your bags on the AirTrain with you to Terminal 8, check them with American, then go through security and to your departure gate. LOT and American do have an interline baggage agreement, you could show your American confirmation to the agent in Warsaw and ask her to check the bags through to CUN. If she does then you will be able to re-check your bags at the transfer desk right after customs in T1 instead of having to bring them with you to T8. This will be a difficult, but possible, connection.

We are travelling from Europe to LA with connection flight on JFK. Tha plane should arrive at 4:41p.m. and next to LAX is scheduled at 6:30p.m. That makes 1h49min connection time. On flightstats it says it's both T4. We are all first time travellers to US, all tickets were bought together and its Delta for both flights. Is that enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. In JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. Make sure to complete ESTA before your trip.

  • Changing from T4 to T2 - need advice

Hi, I am flying from Heathrow to JFK arriving at T4 at 1.41pm and have to connect to Phoenix on Delta at 4.30pm at T2. Is this enough time and do I need to go through security once I pass through Customs? It looks like I can get a shuttle between the terminals, is this correct? I travel with a carry-on so do not need to collect and drop off luggage.

Oh, forgot to mention that I am flying in on Delta as well.

Yes, upon arrival you will go through US Immigration and Customs and then will be outside security. Check the monitors. Your flight to Phoenix could depart from either T2 or T4. If it departs from T2 you can go through security in T4 and then take a shuttle bus inside security to T2, or take the AirTrain to T2 and go through security there. You should have plenty of time.

Thanks for your help! One last question if you don't mind, we are flying on Sunday, is that a busy afternoon for flights?

Sunday afternoons are some of the busiest periods as you have both returning leisure passengers and departing business travelers flying at that time.

  • Connecting flight to SFO

Hi, I will be arriving at 1pm with wife and 2 kids at JFK Terminal 4, from an international flight. I have a connecting flight to SFO at 2.30pm from Terminal 2. Tickets for both flights purchased together at Delta. Will I have sufficient time to pass immigration, customs and go to Terminal 2? Thanks Gerry

No flights to SFO leave from Terminal 2. Delta JFK-SFO flights leave from Terminal 4. You should barely have enough time.

Hi, Thanks for your info. Strange though...my itinerary stats flight leaves from T2... So I understand you wouldn't risk only 1,5 hr time between connecting flights? Thanks

I might risk it, as I said both flights will be in Terminal 4 and if you do miss your flight due to the first flight being late, Delta probably has a later flight to SFO you can be rebooked on.

  • Need advice Jetblue/Etihad connection @JFK

I am flying JetBlue from Bermuda to JFK with a connection time of 1 hr 40 minutes for next flight with Etihad flight to Doha. Is it enough time between flights to make it on time for my Etihad flight? Any advice/feedback greatly appreciated

Did you purchase your tickets together or separately. If together it should be enough time as Bermudy has US Immigration and Customs preclearance, but if separately it will be difficult for you to transfer your bags in time before the Etihad checked baggage cutoff.

Thanks ZAP. Great Help. Was worried about it. Tickets have been booked together. Also, just for future reference, if I were to book the tickets separately, how much time do you think should be sufficient? Maybe 3 hours or more?

Yes, 3 hours would be OK if purchasing separately.

    Thanks ZAP. Much appreciated.

Hi, I will arrive at terminal 4 from a AMS (KLM flight) at 15:30. No bags. Do I have time to take the 16:30 fligth to SFO on the same terminal. Do I have to pass trough custos on JFK or just in SFO? Thanks!!!

No, you will not have enough time to take the 16:40 Flight to SFO. In JFK you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs and go through security.

  • 1 hour 30 mins from terminal 7 to terminal 8 suffcient?

I will be arriving in JFK at 1pm on Cathy flight. My next flight is by AA from JFK to Orlando at terminal 8 at 230 pm. Do you think I have sufficient time? Thank you so much. Any advice is appreciated.

That would be barely enough time. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, go out and take the AirTrain from T7 to T8, then go through security and to your departure gate.

Thank you for your reply. So there is no way I can make it for the connecting flight?

  • Baggage Check from a Swiss Air Int. flight to a US Air domestic flight
    Apr 1, 2015

Hey, I have a flight arriving at JFK via Swiss Air. I had to buy an extra suitcase while abroad making my total suitcase number 3 (too many to take around the airport). Once arriving at JKF, I know I have to go through customs with my luggage, but can I recheck my luggage to my final destination immediately after customs or will I have to take all my bags through the airport to the U.S. Air ticket counter and recheck them there? Also, will I have to go through security again? Thanks!

If your tickets are purchased all the way though to your final destination, you can re-check your bags immediately after customs. However, if you purchased two separate tickets, you will have to take them to the US Airways counter in Terminal 8 to re-check them. Also, checking 3 bags on US Airways for a domestic flight will cost you $190. Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 8.

  • Connection time

I will be flying in from Salt Lake City on Delta and will arrive at ~5:49 p.m. I then need to make a connection and get on a 7:31 p.m. flight to Madrid (i.e., 1 hour, 42 minutes). Is this enough time?

If both flights are on Delta that should be enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in Terminal 2, it is connected to Terminal 4 where you will depart inside security by a shuttle bus.

  • Estimate travel time from T5 to T4

Hi what's an estimated time to travel from T5 arrival gate (domestic) to T4 departure check in (international). Thanks.

Leave at least 2 hours between your flights if purchasing separate tickets and 60 minutes between flights if purchasing together.

Hey, I will be flying to JFK from DXB on Etihad and then switching to American Airlines to fly to Boston. I'm not a US citizen or resident. I'll have 3 and a half hours to get through immigration, security, luggage, customs, switch to T8 from T4 and check in, will that be enough?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Also, be aware that Etihad flies from AUH (Abu Dhabi). Emirates flies from Dubai (DXB). However, both airlines use Terminal 4.

My husband is coming into the States with his packet from the embassy abroad with his immigrant visa. We will be heading to Phoenix, but JFK will be the first point of entry in the US. Therefore he will have to do whatever it is he needs to with his packet in NY. We have 2 hours between flights. Will that be enough time?

Assuming his tickets were purchased together, that should be enough time.
