  • 2 hours from Delta to Air China in the AM - no checked baggage

Hi, I am in the middle of booking a domestic flight from Altanta - JFK for my 77 years old mother. The only available direct flight from Atlanta to JFK in order to connect to her international flight, Air China, is only 2 hours. Is this enough time? I am going to ask for wheelchair assistant who can take her from one terminal to the next. Thanks.

With no checked bags it's possible, but I really would reconsider booking a 77 year old on a multi airline itinerary through JFK on two separate tickets.

I forgot to mention the ATL - JFK is Delta airlines.

Yes, I know - possible, but not a good idea

I have booked the Air China which leaves JFK @12:50 PM. The earliest direct flight is with Delta, 8:10 AM - 10:29 AM. The second choice is with American Airline with one stop in NC is 5:45 AM - 9:22 AM. This will give her 3 hours layover. However, I am not quite sure about American Airlines's reputation of being late most of the time. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks.

American Airlines is not "Late most of the time". Delays can always happen at the NYC airports. Honestly if you've already booked the ticket from JFK she should fly into New York the day before if she doesn't want to be hurried at the airport.

    Thank you.

Leaving FL on Jet Blue, flying into JFK, have a connecting flight to London on British Airways. Does anyone know the baggage procedure? Would I have to get my baggage then go through security again? Or will my baggage be sent to my BA flight?

If you purchased your tickets on one reservation your bags will be checked through to BA. If you purchased two separate reservations you will have to claim your bags in JFK and take them to BA. You will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from Terminal 7.

The airtrain connects all terminals outside security. It takes about 10 minutes. you don't have to ask the same question four times.

  • enough time to catch connecting flight?

Hi there, I will be flying from Singapore to Korea via Koreanair, with a layover time of 1h 25min at ICN. From ICN I'll fly to JFK, with a 3h 45min connection before taking a Jetblue flight to Buffalo. Will I have enough time to make it for all the flights? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. If you purchased your jetblue flight separately from your Korean flights you will have to transfer your bags yourself to Terminal 5 and re-check them with Jetblue.

Yes, I purchased the Koreanair flights and Jetblue flight on a single itinerary. I am aware that Jetblue has an interline agreement with Koreanair; so does this mean that I can check-in my baggages at the airport in Singapore, and they will be checked through to JFK, where I have to collect them and pass through customs inspections, then transfer the baggages to terminal 5 and re-check them with Jetblue for the flight to Buffalo?

Coming in from Minneapolis to JFK, going on to Rome, is 1 hour 15 minutes enough time if booked on same reservation thru Delta? Thank you.

Yes, that is enough time. If you arrive in Terminal 2, Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security to Terminal 4 where you will depart, however, it appears that all the MSP-JFK flights arrive in Terminal 4, so all you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I'm flying from SYR to VCE with stop in JFK, will I need to pick up and recheck baggage at JFK or will it be checked through from SYR? Also, flying back from CDG to SYR with stop in JFK, is 2 hours enough time? or should I book the flight with the 4hour layover?

If both flights are on Delta you will not have to do anything with your bags in JFK on your way to Venice. On your way back to Syracuse, 2 hours should be enough time for your connection. If your flight from Paris is late you can be rebooked on the later flight.

Do i need more than an hour to get through customs etc and get to another terminal at jfk? I am a known traveler if that helps. Also two different airlines

No, that is not enough time, especially if you have checked bags. You need at least 90 minutes (preferably two hours) without checked bags and 2.5 hours with checked bags.

I purchased a ticket from American Airlines on 29 January from STL- JFK, arriving at 7pm. My next flight is Emirates to Dubai at 2220 hours. Do I need to collect my luggage and re check again in JFK or can AA check my luggage in to my final destination?

Yes, you will have to claim your luggage from American in Terminal 8 and take it on the AirTrain to Terminal 4 to re-check it with Emirates. You should have enough time.

Thank you Zap for your quick reply. One last question, if arrive on 15 January via Emirates from Dubai at ETA 1410 and my next flight is via Delta to STL at 1705, do I have enough time to do what I need to do to catch that flight?

That should be just about enough time.

  • AA Connection to BA

I'm looking to make a connection from an AA flight landing at JFK at 2123 for a BA flight that departs to LHR at 2310. I believe I will have to check in at customs at JFK. Will I have enough time to make this connection? Is it possible to check in at DFW first?

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. If you are just flying DFW-JFK-LHR and both flights are on the same reservation then you will be checked into both flights in Dallas. All you have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain from T8 to T7 and go through security. You should have plenty of time.

Thank you, ZAP. Just to clarify, the initial AA ticket from DFW will be purchased separately, because the BA flight is on a voucher. So, I believe I will have to check in again at JFK. Do you think I will have enough time then?

In that case I think it's barely enough time. There is a chance you could get stuck in New York overnight if it's late.

Thank you! I agree and made alternate plans. Appreciate the back up!

I am flying from Mumbai to JFK by Air India and my domestic flight is from JFK to Tampa by Jet blue. I have purchased two differe tickets. Do I need to check in my luggage after custom at different terminal?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 5 and check your bags with JetBlue, get your JetBlue boarding pass, and go through security.

  • Flight connection with ONLY DELTA AIRLINES

Hello, My destination will be: Barcelona-Amsterdam-JFK- (Mexico), ALL FLIGHTS WITH DELTA, my plane arrives to JFK at 1:03 pm (Terminal 4) and have my last travel at 3:10 pm (Terminal 1). Considering im American Citizen going to migration is faster than with people from other countries. My question is what do I have to do, do I claim baggage? If so do I have to do a re-check at Terminal 1 or Terminal 4 (where I arrived)? Or do I just get pass costums and go without my bagge straight to Terminal 1 ? ... Thank you

By the way, if so, the re-check desk is right at the baggage claim? Do I just leave my bag in the desk or do I have to do a whole process?

No Delta flights use Terminal 1. If your last flight is from Terminal 1 it will be operated by Aeromexico. After arrival in Terminal 4 you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 1 and go through security. You should have just about enough time.
