  • Connecting fflight from San Juan to London
    Jan 14, 2016
Hi. I will travel form San Juan to London. I have only 2 hours to transfer from terminal 8 to terminal 7. Do you thinjk its enough time for me to make it? If I drop my luggage in San Juan doues it go straight to London or do I have to pick up my baggs and to the chek in in terminal 7? Thanks for help

I would like to add that the first flight is operated by American Ailines and the second one by British Airways

Your luggage will go straight to London. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from T8 to T7 and go through security. You should have plenty of time.

  • JetBlue-Air France
    Jan 14, 2016
My flight from Saint Lucia to JFK with JetBlue has been delayed for 30 minutes. I will not arrive at JFK until 7pm as a result. My next flight is from T5 with AirFrance operated by Delta at 9.30pm. I will have to collect my baggage, drop baggage with Delta, go through customs and get to the new terminal etc. Is it even possible that I could manage to do this in the time? Thank you.

Your Delta flight will operate from T4, not T5. The process is actually you will arrive in T5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, take the AirTrain to T4, re-check your bags with Delta, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should still have enough time to do this as long as your JetBlue flight actually arrives at 7.

  • Jet blue -aer lingus
    Jan 14, 2016
I have 1 hour minutes, 15 minutes to connect jet blue to aer lingus on departure 1 hour, 30 minutes connection on the return. Just want to confirm I will have enough time on return to collect bags and recheck. Thank you!

If both tickets are on the same reservation you don't have to collect bags and re-check, just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in T5. On the return you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ireland.

  • Delays
    Jan 13, 2016
Hi, I arrive at JFK T5 from jetblue and take an international connection from T2. I see jetblue flights are delayed for so many hours in bad weather/other conditions. I am aware that If I dont get to catch my connecting flight due to delays, I may be put on the next available flight. Will I be allowed to choose an option for the next available flights or is this decision with the Airways authorities only? Thanks in Advance

There are no International flights from T2. What airline are you flying on the second flight and where are you flying? Are the tickets on one reservation or two separate reservations?

Sorry its from T4. Single reservation. Second flight is on etihad ti AuH

If you miss your connection you will be put on the next flight with availability. Probably the one the next day.

Thanks. So can i not select which flight and time i need to travel If i miss the flight? For example i miss a flight at 10PM and airlines want me to travel by next day 2PM flight. Can i not ask for the 10PM flight the next day??

You can ask, but they don't have to give it to you.

  • T5 to T4
    Jan 13, 2016
Hi, I will be arriving to JFK on jetblue to Terminal 5 and have a connecting flight from T4. Layover is 3 hrs. The reservation is on a single ticket. Do I need to claim the bags and re-check in at jfk? or go to gates after clearing security is enough? And to go to T4 from T5, I will have to board the train that says "All Terminals" Is that right? Thanks in Advance for the reply!

If your Jetblue flight is domestic then you won't have to do anything with your bags at JFK, just take the All Terminals train and go through security.

  • Tight Connection?
    Jan 11, 2016
I am set to arrive to jfk via emirates with a connecting flight on jet blue with a 2hr 10 layover. With a checked bag, do you think this is enough time? If not, any suggestions for possibly speeding things up?

If both tickets are on the same reservation that should be enough time. If it is two separate reservations that will be difficult.

  • Connection at JFK
    Jan 11, 2016
Hello, I'm arriving at 1625 to Termianl 1 at JFK with Airfrance. My next flight is at 18:45 from terminal 2 with Delta. That means I have 2:20 between the two flights. Will I make it on time? (I do have checked luggage). What should I do to increase my odds?

That should be enough time if everything goes smoothly. Note that Delta uses both Terminals 2 and 4 so check your departure terminal before heading over. Just move as quickly as you can.

  • T4 to T5 ( International to Domestic) Different tickets
    Jan 11, 2016
I am flying into T4 terminal ( i am coming from Dubai on Emirates ). I have a domestic connection at T5 (jet blue). I have booked 2 different tickets for the 2 flights. I have 3 hours and 20 mins between these two flights and i have checked bags too. Will the time be enough ?

That should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Connections from SAA to American Eagle
    Jan 11, 2016
I arrive JFK on SAA from Jo'burg at 6:40 AM Jan 12. 2016 can I make a 9:25 flight to Toronto Canada on American eagle

That's probably enough time but doesn't leave much time to spare if there's any delays.

  • 2 hr connection.
    Jan 10, 2016
Hi, i arrive JFK by turkish airlines (terminal 4) and my connection flight to MExico by Aeromexico departs from the same terminal (4). Connection time is 2 hours. is it ok? im not US citizen. Reservations are at different airlines.

That will be difficult. You will have to hope your Turkish flight is on-time, your bags come out quickly, and immigration isn't crowded, then you will have to hurry with your bags to the Aeromexico check-in desk to make it before the bag check cutoff. If you don't have checked bags I think you'll be OK.

  • Connecting between terminal 4 to 5
    Jan 10, 2016
I'm arriving with Jetblue at Terminal 5 and need to go to Terminal 4 for an international flight on South African Airways. Will 1h40 be enough to get to Terminal 5? I don't need to pick up bags they will be checked through. Also, on my return flight I will be arriving at T5 and need to go to T4 (booked on the same ticket). Will 2h30 be enough from T5 to T4? I will have check bags.

Yes, if all tickets are on the same reservation those connection times should be sufficient.

  • 1hr connection time
    Jan 10, 2016
Hi, flying to SFO from DUB, via JFK. All Delta flights, all booked on one ticket. The itinerary I want has a 1hr3min connection time in JFK. I know this will likely be tight but is this physically enough? I know we should pre-clear customs in DUB and we're biz class which might help?

Yes, that should be enough time. Both flights will be in Terminal 4 and all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Great stuff, thanks!

  • domestic flight with delta then onto an international flight
    Jan 9, 2016
hi i land with delta from sf (either terminal 2 or terminal 4) and then have an international flight from terminal 1 (norwegian air). how much time do i need to be on the safe side?

You will arrive in Terminal 4. If you have checked baggage I would want 3 hours between flights. You could do a bit less without checked bags.

no checked baggage but wondering what delta on-time performance is.

Delta's is better than Norwegian's. JFK is a mess though, if there's any bad weather there it will be all backed up.

  • Abu Dhabi to Boston (via JFK)
    Jan 9, 2016
Hi, I will travel on Etihad from Abu Dhabi to Boston (via JFK). The booking is on one Etihad reservation. I plan to go through pre-clearance in Abu Dhabi. Would you know if luggage is checked all the way through to Boston ? and I just need to change terminals at JFK ?

Should clarify, that the JFK to Bosotn flight will be on JetBlue

Yes, if all tickets are on the same reservation your bags will be checked through to Boston. Yes, you will just have to take the AIrTrain from T4 to T5 and go through security.

  • Transit baggage
    Jan 8, 2016
I am going to transit thru JFK from Delhi (India) to Toronto. Will my check in baggage need to be collected, custom cleared and rechecked at JFK prior to my Toronto flight? My Delhi - JFK is Aiir India flight and JFK - Toronto is Air Canada flight.

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then if your bags are tagged through to YYZ you can re-check them at the re-check desk, otherwise you will bring them with you on the AirTrain to T7 to re-check them with Air Canada, then go through security and to your departure gate. You will go through Canadian immigration and customs when you get to Toronto. If you are an Indian Citizen you will need a US Transit Visa for your connection.

Thanks ZAP. Very helpful. Will Indian herbal medicines (around 2 kgs) be allowed thru JFK customs?

I'm not an expert in what is allowed through customs, but that sounds to me like something that may raise suspicions, especially in that quantity. Although considering the fact that you are proceeding on to Canada, they may allow it through and let the Canadians deal with it when you get there.
