  • Transfer from terminal 8 to 5
    Mar 31, 2016
Hello, I am flying in on Alaska Airlines at 0605 which arrives at terminal 8. I then have to transfer to terminal 5 to make a jetblue flight to St. Lucia at 0758, is this enough time? Will I have to go through security again?

Yes, you will have to go through security again. That is barely enough time with checked bags. Definitely possible without checked bags.

  • AA domestic flight-->JFK-->AA international flight: layover time?
    Mar 31, 2016
We are flying on a busy travel day (around Thanksgiving) on a domestic AA (American Eagle affiliate, Envoy) from DC to JFK, have a 3 hour layover, then have an international flight on an AA flight (operated by AA). No checked luggage, all the same ticket. 1) intel so far tells me this is sufficient layover time: is that correct? 2) what will the terminals be, if you know, and how much time should we plan for that? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. you will arrive in Terminal B and depart from Terminal D.

Sorry, both flights will be in Terminal 8. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • International connection Terminal 4 to terminal 8
    Mar 30, 2016
Hi, I am due to arrive with South African airways in Terminal 4 and have a 1 Hour connection on AA in terminal 8 to Haiti. Is this enough time and do I need to collect baggage and clear customs.

That is absolutely not enough time. Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, change terminals, re-check your bags, and go through security. That's completely impossible to do in 1 hour.

  • 3 hour connection
    Mar 29, 2016
Hi hope someone can help? I'm due to fly into JFK on a BA flight into terminal 7 and I have 3 hours to get into terminal 2 for a delta domestic flight. Is this enough time to clear immigration , get baggage and go back through security for the domestic flight and re check in bags ?

That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly. Note that domestic Delta flights can leave from Terminal 2 or 4, so be sure to check delta.com after you arrive.

Thank you, I've just rechecked and it is terminal 4 ! You may have just helped us make the connection, thanks sgain

  • Delta domestic to Intl
    Mar 29, 2016
First time to JFK, coming in from Atlanta to JFK, leaving JFK to Santo DOmingo, Dominican Republic. Do i have to change terminals? Will luggage make transfer in 70 minute layover? Coming back to I have to claim luggage and recheck? Thanks!!!

What airlines are you flying? Yes, on the way back you will have to claim your bags in JFK to clear US Customs.

oops, we're traveling on Delta all the way. sounds like we may not be checking luggage. Is customs clearing slow at JFK?

It's medium speed. On the way to Santo Domingo, you may arrive in Terminal 2, you will depart from Terminal 4. if so you have to take a shuttle bus that runs inside security from Terminal 2 to 4. If you arrive in Terminal 4 you just have to walk to your departure gate. 70 minutes should be enough time.

  • T4 to T5
    Mar 28, 2016
Hello, Flight from Milan lands in T4 and have 1.5 hrs before catching Jetblue flight out of T5. US citizen, no checked bags. Do I have enough time?

That's barely enough time if everything goes smoothly and you are already checked in online for your JetBlue flight.

    Got it. Thanks ZAP!

    Sorry for the dup post.

  • JetBlue Bag check in
    Apr 7, 2016
Easy question I hope. Does JetBlue have a bag check in at Terminal 4 arrivals after Customs? Time isn't an issue I hope since I have about 5 hours between my SQ flight to B6.

JetBlue does not have a bag check in T4 no. Clear custom, pick up your bag, take the Airtrain to T5 (easy, just make sure you get on the right train!), and check in. 5 hours should be more than fine.

  • JetBlue Bag check in

Easy question I hope. Does JetBlue have a bag check in at Terminal 4 arrivals after Customs? Time isn't an issue I hope since I have about 5 hours between my SQ flight to B6.

If your bags are already tagged to JetBlue then you can re-check them in T4 after customs. If not then you will have to take them with you to T5 and re-check them.

Unfortunately they are on separate tickets. No problem. I need the walk plus T5 seems to be a much nicer terminal.

  • Luggage from delta airlines to aerolineas argentinas airlines
    Mar 28, 2016
I have to fly into JFK from Detroit on Delta Airlines and then transfer to Aerolineas Argentinas airlines to Buenos Aires. The flight is on the same ticket - will my luggage be transferred automatically or will I have to pick up my luggage from Delta and then recheck it in with Aerolineas Argentinas?

Yes, your bags should be transferred for you, however you will have to take the AirTrain to Terminal 7 and go through security.

  • Can I enter Terminal 5 to meet family, if my flight leaves from T4 ?
    Apr 6, 2016
Grandchildren are arriving T5 from Hawaiian airlines. I need to meet them at gate, and then proceed to T4 for Delta flight to final destination. Am I allowed to enter T5 if my outbound flight is T4?

    No, you will not be.

ZAP is wrong. If you can convince the JetBlue agents in T5 to give you a gate pass, you can meet them at the gate. Arrive at the airport early and explain your situation.

  • Connecting flight from CLT to MAD
    Mar 28, 2016
Hi, I'm about to book tickets through Expedia to fly with American Airlines from CLT to MAD, with a layover at JFK. I have the option of booking the flights with a layover at JFK of either 2 or 4 hours. I will be travelling with a kid and do not relish the thought of a 4 hour layover at JFK and the subsequent complaints of boredom, but at the same time, 2 hours seems like it might be cutting it a little close if I have to go through security, etc. again. The tickets I plan to buy are all with American Airlines and on the same reservation. Do you think that 2 hours is enough to make the connecting flight coming into JFK from CLT and connecting with the flight to Madrid? I will be travelling on a Saturday in June, and the flight for Madrid leaves at 7:00 pm. Also, will I have to collect my baggage and recheck it, change terminals, or go through security again once I arrive at JFK?  From what I saw on JFK's site with respect to the terminals, it looks like all of American Airlines' flights, both domestic and international, arrive and depart from Terminal 8, so I'm assuming that I won't have to change terminals via the Air Train. Is this correct?

On your way to Madrid all you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If both flights are operated by AA they will both be in Terminal 8. 2 hours is enough time.

Ok, thanks so much for your help ZAP!

ZAP, sorry to bother you again, but it turns out that the flight I wanted to take from JFK to Madrid is actually operated by Iberia, which I understand would mean I'd have to change terminals (from 8 to 7), which I'd like to avoid. American Airlines is offering me flight 1972 from CLT that arrives at JFk at 17:59 and connecting flight AA 94 that leaves JFK for Madrid at 19:00. Is an hour enough time to make that connection? I'm assuming it is, as you've mentioned I won't have to go through security, etc., and just walk from one gate to the other, but I'm also concerned about our bags, as we'll definitely be checking in suitcases. Do you think an hour is enough time to catch the connecting flight and for the suitcases to be transferred? Otherwise, I'll just have to bite the bullet and do the 4 hour layover. Thanks again for your insight.

Yes, an hour would be enough time, but it doesn't leave much time to spare if the flight to JFK is delayed.

Ok, that's what I figured. Thanks again for your help!

  • Connecting between SA Airways and Delta
    Apr 6, 2016
I arrive SA Airways from Jburg to JFK at 6:40 am. Can I make a Delta flight 2 hours later? other option is to transfer to LGA. I'm flying Biz Class on SA airways and have GOES fast passport check. It is the luggage I'm concnered about

On two separate itineraries I think that would be impossible.

What terminal does your Delta flight depart from? If it's T4, you'll probably make your connection with Global Entry (presumably that's what you mean by GOES fast passport check). If it's T2, it'll be a harder connection but still doable because Delta has an airside shuttle from T4 to T2, meaning you won't need to leave security. MAKE SURE ONCE YOUR PASS CUSTOMS AT JFK, DO NOT LEAVE SECURITY! Follow signs to return to gates and then get on the shuttle: The T4 shuttle stops are located at B18 and B54 (NEW). The T2 shuttle stop is located at C60. Good luck!

  • Qatar to Delta
    Mar 26, 2016
Hello, I'm just doing some research before booking my tickets. I would be arriving on a Qatar Airways flight from DOH-JFK at 9:15am which if I'm correct arrives in T8. I would then catch a Delta flight to Toronto YYZ at 3:45pm. The QR flight and DL flight will not on the same reservation as they will be booked separately. My questions are: What terminal would the Delta flight be out of? Is it T4? Am I correct in thinking that 6.5 hours is sufficient for me to clear US Immigration, pick up my luggage from my QR flight, switch terminals, check in again at DL counters, go through T4 security etc? How would I transfer from T8 to T4? After grabbing my bag, exit the terminal and catch the AirTrain to T4? Thank you in advance for answering my questions.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Yes, your flight to Toronto will likely depart from Terminal 4. Yes, you will have to take your bags with you on the AirTrain to re-check them with Delta in T4.

Thank you ZAP. I will be flying Business Class with QR, when I'm re-checking with Delta they are going to charge me for baggage fees because it's a separate ticket. Is there anything that would get me past the fees considering that I flew in business class on a long haul international flight just a few hours prior? Thank you.

No, the fact that you gave a completely different airline more money on a completely separate ticket will not get you out of paying bag fees on Delta.

  • American to Etihad
    Mar 25, 2016
I'm flying on December 10th arriving on American Airlines 4196 from RDU and need to connect to Etihad 102 to AUH. The inbound is scheduled to arrive at 11:58 AM and the outbound departs at 2:30 PM. I think I will have to change terminals from 8 to 4, will this be enough time? Will my bags be checked through?

If both tickets are on the same reservation then your bags will be checked through. If not you will have to claim them and take them to T4 to re-check. You will have to go through security again when you get to T4. You should have enough time as long as the flight from RDU is on-time.
