arriving at JFK from San Juan 16:29 and departiing to manchester uk 19:15 both flihghta american airlines - is there enough time to collect luggage etc and can you tell me which terminals will be used ?

You don't have to collect your baggage. Both flights will be Terminal 8. All you have to do in JFK is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • AA to Delta connection
    Mar 12, 2016
Hi, I arrive from LAX on AA at 1906 and then fly with Delta to YYZ at 2055. Separate tickets. Is that enough time? Probably have 1 bag. Thanks

That would be barely enough time with a checked bag if everything went perfectly.

  • Do I have time!?
    Mar 15, 2016
I'm flying into JFK from Orlando then have a 1.5hr layover until my next flight to Abu Dahbi so I will be going international... Do I have enough time to get from domestic to international so I do not miss my flight?

If both flights are on the same reservation then all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and you have enough time.

Sorry, I misunderstood this a bit. What airline are you flying to JFK? Are both tickets on the same reservation.

I'm flying jet blue into JFK then Etihad international... All booked at the same time through Expedia.

Then you have enough time. You will just have to take the AirTrain from Terminal 5 to Terminal 4 and go through security.

    Awesome! Thank you!!

  • going from term 2 baggage claim to term 4
    Mar 11, 2016
Never have flown in to JFK before. Need to know about my going from Term 2 baggage claim to Term 4 to wait on arriving passenger, Is there some place I can wait/and or get something to eat until passenger arrives

I believe there are a few small concession stand type restaurants outside security in T4. You take the AirTrain between terminals.

  • 1 hr 43 layover time sufficient coming from MSP going to Milan?
    Mar 10, 2016
I am looking at a ticket for a Sunday in May from Minneapolis to Milan. One option is to arrive at JFK at 4:48, depart at 6:31. Is 1 hr 43 min enough layover for an international flight?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in JFK if both flights are on Delta is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in Terminal 2 then Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security to Terminal 4.

  • AA then Delta flight
    Mar 11, 2016
My 15 year old son is flying solo from Indianapolis to Barcelona, Spain. He is flying AA from IND arriving at 2:51 pm at JFK (terminal 8?). He then needs to go to the Delta Terminal (4?) for his 7:30pm flight. Are the signs to the AirTrain pretty easy to follow? I just want to make sure that he doesn't accidentally ride the AirTrain that will take him outside of the airport. When I went to the Port Authority website, it looks like AirTrain takes you between terminals as well as outside of the airport (Manhattan, etc). Also, is that enough time to transfer? Thanks.

Yes, he will arrive in 8 and depart from 4. The train he needs is labeled "All Terminals" that train doesn't leave the airport and just goes in a circle around the terminals in reverse order. He should have enough time.

Thank you. Now does he have to go through security again once he arrives at Terminal 4?

Yes, he will. If his flights were purchased on two separate reservations and he has checked bags, he will also have to claim them from AA in T8 and re-check them with Delta in T4.

  • JFK TERM 2 TO 4 in an hour!
    Mar 10, 2016
I have an evening flight from Florida to JFK arriving at 8:06 pm terminal 2 Delta Connections. I then need to get to Terminal 4 for an International red eye on Virgin Atlantic to LHR which leaves at 9 pm. US passport. I'm not carrying much and plan to walk/run to gate. I know there is a shuttle. I wasn't that concerned, but as trip gets closer, I'm getting nervous. I've maneuvered ATL in record time, don't know JFK as well! Any help would be appreciated

Yeah, at JFK you will be at the mercy of the shuttle. I think you probably will make it, but it depends on that flight from Florida arriving on-time. You could also get lucky and have it arrive in Terminal 4. There's a fair chance it will.

  • Connection time at JFK
    Mar 13, 2016
Dear all, I am concerned about my connection time in NY. I will arrive at 4:55 pm on Finnair from Helsinki, and the next flight to San Francisco is at 6:30 pm operated by American Airlines. Arrival and departure will be both from Terminal 8. Finnair and AA are partners and I bought the tickets with a single reservation, so hopefully I will not have to collect and re-check the luggage. I am still worried that 1h30 is too little time given that I will have to go through immigration, and I am not sure about the luggage. Thank you in advance

You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Flight in from SAfrica, depart to Portland, 4hrs enough?
    Mar 9, 2016
Trying to book a connection for my daughter. She will arrive South African airlines. If I get her a departure on Jet Blue 4 hours after she arrives, is that enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Delta - Air China Connection Times
    Mar 9, 2016
Do I have enough time if I arrive JFK on Delta from ATL at 12:45 pm to connect to Air China business class departure at 4:50 pm? Delta has a baggage agreement with Air China so I won't be dragging my luggage.

Note that your baggage will only be transferred if your tickets were purchased on the same reservation. If you purchased two separate reservations Delta will not tag your bags to Air China and you will have to take your bags on the AirTrain with you to re-check them with Air China. You should still have enough time.

Thanks for your reply. My experience has been that if the airlines have a baggage agreement, it is still possible to check the bag to the final destination even if the flights are on different records. It requires a knowledgable and co-operative check-in agent at the trip origin and I make sure that the second airline enters the bag tag info in my record. Delta has assured me in writing that it can be done. I'm not sure that I will get Air China to do it on the return.

Delta has a fairly strict policy that they don't do that. I don't know where you got that assurance.

I contacted @DeltaAssist on Twitter. I did this in August with the bag transfer to South African Airways in IAD. On the return, I checked the bag from Zambia to ATL. I did have to claim it for customs in IAD but was able to just drop the bag back since it had the right tag. I'm curious why you say Delta has a policy against it?

They expressly state it here: https://pro.delta.com/content/deltapro/en_US/news/uk-news-archive/2015/november-2015/delta-confirms-through-check-baggage-policy-.html They will only check bags through on two separate reservations to specific Skyteam and joint venture partners

Very interesting. I will contact Delta again. Thanks.

Hallo. Do I make it if I arrive on Finnair from Helsinki at 4:55 to connect to an America Airlens flight to San Francisco at 18:30? Finnair and AA are partners and I booked the tickets in a single reservation, so I guess I will not need to collect and re-check the luggage. Thank you

  • Connection flight
    Mar 9, 2016
I am arriving at JFK airport from San Diego at 3:29 pm (Delta airlines) and my connecting flight to Amsterdam departs at 5:45 pm (KLM). I arrive and leave out of terminal 4. Do I have enough time to go through customs/security and walk to my gate? Do I have to get my luggage and check in again? Thanks a lot.

There is no US Customs or special security when leaving the US. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

  • connection time
    Mar 8, 2016
hi, we land by Etihad from abu dhabi at 9.35am , wondering if I can get a AA connection for Miami at 11.20am, will have cleared pre immigration at abu dhabi however baggage would require to be collected and rechecked in...would we be able to make it?

Yes, because you would have already cleared US Immigration and Customs, that should be just enough time if your flight from Abu Dhabi is on-time.

  • From Terminal One to Federal Circle
    Mar 7, 2016
Does Air Train (Jamaica & Howard Beach trains) run clockwise or counter clockwise between Terminal One and Federal Circle Station?

The airtrain that connects to the train stations does the terminal stations in numerical order. So you will stop at 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8 on the way from 1 to the transfer stations.

  • Will I Have Enough Time
    Mar 7, 2016
Flying from SFO with Delta, arriving time 3:20pm at JFK (Terminal 4), next leg from JFK with Lufthansa depart at 5:55pm (Terminal 1). Will I have enough time to pick up my luggage, make it to the Lufthansa check in counter and board the plane? Tickets will be purchased separately. Thanks.

that's barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • 1 hour 45 mins enough time to make Delta connections?
    Mar 7, 2016
Traveling on a Delta flight from St. Maarten arriving at 6:44PM on April 3rd and catching the Delta flight at 8:30PM to Seattle. Is 105 minutes enough time to make the connection. Will have 3 or 4 checked pieces of luggage.

That's just enough time if everything goes smoothly. Both flights will be in Terminal 4.
