  • meet a relative at JFK

I will be arriving at JFk from ATL via Delta and 2:35 pm and departing fro BCN at 8:11 pm. I would like to meet a relative who lives in NCY for lunch. Is that possible?

Yes, that would be possible if they come to you. It would be pretty difficult to go into manhattan and back to the airport in that time frame.

Thank you. I assume we would have to go outside of the airport to meet them and then go through security again. Is that correct?

  • Need a transit visa if I go to Canada (as permanent resident) via JFK?

Hi There, Please help me to get a better understanding on Transit Visa. I am an Indian and having Canada Immigration Visa. I am going to Canada first time. I took a Ticket in British Airways via UK and USA to reach there. The British Airways Ticket has a connecting flight at JFK with a layover or around 4 Hours. My question is do I really need a transit Visa for a Four Hours Layover on the same airport? Please help me with detailed description. Your immediate response would be highly appreciated. email me at engineer.mukesh@gmail.com With Regards, Mukesh Kumar

Yes, you really need a transit Visa. Unfortunately your Canadian Immigration Visa doesn't get you anything in the USA.

I will be arriving in JFK from Brasil and have a 12 hour layover for my flight to Serbia. Can I leave the airport? Do I need a visa? Thank you in advance.

Yes, you need a US Transit Visa. Once you clear US Immigration you can leave the airport as long as you report for your scheduled flight to Serbia.

  • enough connection time ?

Hi, I have a booked flight from JFK to London departing at 8 pm on the 12th of Sept., i will be in San Francisco on the 11th and have a flight in mind that arrives in JFK at 3.30 pm on the 12th does this allow enough time to collect bags, check in and go through security etc, what is the chance of a domestic flight being delayed ?

That should be enough time. SFO is moderately delay-prone and JFK is very delay-prone.

Thanks Have booked, looks like both flights will be in Terminal 4, as they are both with Virgin, though not on the same ticket, making it easier. just hope no delay to the flight from SFO

  • Time needed to transfer from EL AL to Delta flight to Atlanta Ga

Need to know how much time I need to claim bags, clear customs, get to Delta domestic terminal for flight to Atlanta and then on to Montgomery Alabama

If the flights are on two separate reservations you need at least 3 hours, preferably a little more.

Hi, I have a flight through JFK end of August from Manchester and connect through JFK at round 1pm. both flights are AA through terminal 8 however my connection time i have been given is 2 hours and 15 mins. is this enough to clear immigration, customs, recheck bags and go through security again for the domestic flight?

    Manchester england that is

Yes, that should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Is my Layover long enough?

Hi, I will be travelling from Birmingham (GBR) to Nashville with a stop off in JFK. Firstly my flight to JFK is American airlines and from JFK to Nashville its American airlines operated by Envoy air As American Egale. I bought the ticket on skyscanner so im pretty certian both are on the same ticket. The layover time is 3 hours and 20 mins i'm thinking will this be enough time to go through security there or do i go through security at Nashville. Secondly am i right in presuming that both flights will be out of terminal 8? Finally would my luggage be checked through or would i need to collect it? Thanks in advance

Yes, that is enough time. In JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through Security and to your departure gate, all in Terminal 8. You have enough time.

Sorry that was ment to say 2 hours 20 mins would this still be enough time? TIA.

That should be just about enough time then.

  • Aer Lingus connecting to American Airlines

Hi, If I'm flying Aer Lingus to JFK and connecting with American Airlines to San Juan will my bags be checked all the way through? The booking will be on the same ticket booked with British Airways

Yes, your bags will be checked through. All you should have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain from T5 to T8 and go through security. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ireland.

  • Is this enough time to make a flight to Shannon Ireland?
    Jul 25, 2016

End of September, my husband and I fly from RDU on Delta 4074 to JFK, arriving at 8:13 pm. Then we fly to Shannon, Ireland on Delta 406 at 11 pm. We do not plan to check any bags. This is a little less than the recommended 3 hour gap for an international flight. Can you advise what terminals these flights might be, and more importantly, if we have to redo security in this process? (ie, we'll have done it once at RDU already). I am worried about the time allotment. Thanks!

You don't need 3 hours. Both flights are in Terminal 4 and all you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

Thanks for taking the time to reply – I was worried we'd have to go through security again and would be late. Now I realize perhaps I should be more concerned about the return flight. We return on a Sunday in October, Dublin to JFK arriving 1:55 pm on Delta 45. Then our connection back home to RDU is Delta 4006 at 3:45 pm. I have a bad feeling this will not be long enough to allow for customs? Can you comment on that? Not sure if we would check a bag on the return journey or not. Thanks again for sharing your expertise with so many people!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. Again, all you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 4.

  • JFK to LAS

Hi, I have a 17hr layover transit when I land at JFK at 2215 (Aug6) and my LAS flight is the following day at 1550 (Aug7). If I want to leave the airport, stay somewhere and explore the city, do I need to get my checked luggage when I arrive in NYC and re-check in again later or will it go directly to my LAS flight? Is there enough time?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags and then re-check them the next day. Yes, that is plenty of time to do whatever you want.

Which LIRR/Airtrain do we take to get to terminal 7 from Penn station? Do we take the Jamaica hub then transfer once inside the airport to another train?

Basically, yes. The MTA has a good guide, the AirTrain you get on at Jamaica Transfer will take you all the way to Terminal 7. http://web.mta.info/mta/airtrain.htm

We're traveling from Venice to Austin through JFK, both US citizens and no checked luggage. We land at 4:50 pm in JFK and our connecting flight to Austin is at 6:25 pm. Is 1hr 35 mins enough time to go through customs and security?

Forgot to mention the airline is Delta and we have to change terminals I believe.

That is not realistically enough time. It's technically a legal connection but it's not realistic. 2 hours is the bare minimum I recommend for International to Domestic through JFK.

I'm travelling from London to jfk via Amsterdam and have been given 1hr5 to transfer, is this enough?

i fly in from SA to JFK and inward to Fort Lauderdale what do I do about my luggage

  • Short Connection Time

Im flying into JFK on AA- meant to be arriving at 13.20 Just noticed my connecting flight to CUN leaves at 14,55 (also AA) What happens if the flight is delayed or i miss the connection due to TSA lines etc

Where are you flying into JFK from? I can't answer your question without knowing that.

Im flying in from Milan MXP

That connection will be very difficult, bordering on impossible. If you miss your connection they will book you on the next available flight to Cancun, possible through Dallas/Ft. Worth.

  • I need some answers re transfer time and yes or no pick up my luggage

I fly with KLM 6765 from Ft Lauderdale and arrive at JFK at 8.15h pm. I leave JFK with KL 0644 at 10.40 pm to Amsterdam. Do I have enough transfer time. Which terminal do I arrive and which terminal do i depart for Amsterdam. Must I pick my Luggage first and recheck it at the checkin desk on which terminal. A lot of guestions, but it makes me nervous, because it is my first time. I am a Dutch citizen. Thank you for your answers ZAP.

I forgot to tell you that my transfertime is 2.25hours. All is booked on one ticket.

You will both arrive and depart from Terminal 2 or 4. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in Terminal 2, Delta runs a shuttle inside security to Terminal 4. Note that your flight from FLL will be operated by Delta. You don't have to do anything with your bags at JFK. You should have enough time.

Thx for your usefull answer ZAP. Are there information desks between terminal 2 and 4 in case I cannot find the shuttle from terminal 2 to term. 4?

The shuttle is very well marked.

Im flying from BOS to JFK and then to Cambodia. first flight is JETBLUE, second flight is China Southern Airlines, all on same reservation. Can I check my bags all the way through in BOS? Is a 1hour 46 min layover enough time? Do I go through customs in BOS or JFK? Thanks

I answered this the other place you posted your question. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.
