I am travelling from South Africa (South African airlines) to JFK with a connecting flight to DC on Delta Airlines. I have 2 1/2 hours before my delta flight. Will I have enough time to clear customs at JFK?

Yes, that should be enough time. If you purchased tickets together you can re-check your bags after clearing US Customs, otherwise you will have to take them to the Delta counter in T2.

We fly with Delta. We arrive from Quebec city to JFK so need to take our luggages, clear customs and check luggages again before taking our next flight to Las Vegas. We only have 1h45 minutes, will that be enough?

Yes, that should be enough time. However, it doesn't leave much time in case of delays.

I'm a UK citizen flying London - Buenos Aires with American Airlines. Route includes a 1 hour 45 minute wait in JFK. Do I need a transit visa?

UK Citizens do not need any sort of visa to visit the United States.

Flying SFO-JFK-ZUR on AA. Layover is 55 minutes. Is that enough? Do I have to re-check luggage? Flying Business

No, you will not have to do anything with your luggage in JFK. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both by in Terminal 8.

  • Good Meeting Point Terminal 4

So my friend and I are meeting at JFK. His flight should arrive to Terminal 4 and mine to Terminal 2. His phone won't work, since he's coming from London, so we agreed I'll just come meet him at Terminal 4 since my flight arrives a little earlier. Where is a good place to meet? There won't be any way for us to communicate, so we have to agree on a meeting point before hand. Thanks!!

There is a diner in the arrivals area of Terminal 4. You can't miss it. It's called Central Diner.

We are arriving to JFK with Finnair and have connection flight to Toronto by American airlines. Do we need to go thru customs and claim our luggages as we will not stay in US? How about when coming back with same route ?

On your way to Toronto, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags with American, then go to the departurre level and through security. On the way back you will go through US Immigration and Customs in Toronto Preclearance. Your arrival into JFK will be like a domestic flight. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate on that trip.

  • Arrival, customs, baggage...

My Delta flight arrives from Paris, France at 1:21PM, Terminal 2 and I have next Delta flight at 2:55PM at Terminal 4 to JAX. Am I taking my luggage after customs or is it automatically tranferd to JAX flight? Is there anyone to show you where you can take the Delta shuttle, and do I have to go though whole customs, emigration, security thing twice? Can I make it in hour and a half? With a child :) thank you!

You have your terminals backwards. You will arrive from Paris in Terminal 4 if your flight is operated by Delta and Terminal 1 if it is operated by Air France. Your flight to Jacksonville will leave from Terminal 2. After clearing US Immigration, you will have to claim your baggage, go through customs, then re-check your baggage with Delta at the re-check desk. Then you will take the airtrain to Terminal 2 and go through security and to your departure gate. You will only go through US Immigration and Customs once, in JFK. 90 minutes is the minimum allowable time for such a connection, so if your first flight is on-time you should be OK but you don't have much buffer in case of delays.

Thanks for a reply! I double checked terminals, arriving in T4, leaving from T2 :)

  • Mom needs wheelchair from JetBlue to connecting EL AL flight.

Mom is coming from PBI JetBlue to JFK EL AL. I understand that EL AL recently partnered with JetBlue for trips to Israel. I've notified both airlines that she will need a wheelchair. I will be meeting her at the EL AL Terminal. The question is: What is the process of the handovers to attendants on arrival to JFK, who will take her from the JetBlue Terminal to the EL AL terminal and will she be assisted during the process at Customs?.

We are flying out of JFK on Air Lingus at 9:40pm. I need to book flights from DC to JFK and am not sure how much time from our arrival on the local flight we need before getting on the Air Lingus flight to/from our trip. Can you advise? Thank you!

Since you are booking separate tickets I would try to get in before 6:30 PM.

    Thanks so much!

Thomas Cook Airlines will start a 3 x per week charter flight from Manchester to New York in 2015. I'm booked onto that service and wondered if anyone knows which JFK terminal we would be using on arrival?

The Terminal has not been announced yet as the flight is still 7 months away. However, it will likely be either Terminal 1 or Terminal 4.

    Thank you

  • Picking up a minor at JFK international arrivals
    Jul 25, 2014

Any suggestions as to where I should pick up my teen age old son after his arrival from Tel Aviv at JFK? Will they let me back to the gate or baggage claim because he is a minor? Who should I contact?

Nobody is allowed into the gate area or baggage claim for international arrivals. You'll have to pick him up at the exit of customs like everybody else.

  • If already clearing US customs in Toronto, will have to do again?
    Jul 20, 2014

I'll be flying into JFK from Toronto to catch a connecting flight to Europe. I will be going through US immigration and customs screening in Toronto, so will I have to do it again before I connect to my international flight? This seems like an awful waste of time!

The whole idea U.S. preclearance in Toronto is to avoid it at U.S. airports! If your connecting flight at JFK is in another terminal, follow the 'Airline Terminals Train' signs & take the train, which runs counter-clockwise in the non-secured areas of each terminal - meaning you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate.
