Mmy mom is traveling alone with 3pieces of luggage, is there any way to help her with the luggage? something that she can use to put all the luggage and pushed? she is arriving on terminal 4 and departing on terminal 8... thanks...

She should buy a foldable luggage cart and put it in her baggage. You can't bring rented carts on the AirTrain.

    thanks :)

Hello, I am an Bulgarian citizen, flying from Montreal (YUL) to Rome, Italy via JFK New York with Delta airlines. In few days I have another flight to my final destination Sofia, Bulgaria. My return flights is via Amsterdam with KLM. Can you please tell me do I need to go through any customs or immigration check at JFK and do I need transit visa.

Yes, you will go through US Immigration and Customs in JFK on your return trip and unless you have Canadian permanent residency, you will need a US Transit Visa both ways. On your way to Rome you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal.

Thank you ZAP for your answer. The information provided is very helpful.

  • 2hr Stopover en-route to Toronto

I will be arriving from Dubai on Emirate flight at 07.45 on Monday morning with connecting fight on Delta at 09.55 to Toronto (tickets purchased separately). Will there be enough time to clear immigration/customs after arrival to clear and check in luggage for the next flight?

Further to previous message, forgot to mention both flights are to/from T4.

Your flight to Toronto will actually depart from Terminal 2. And you are really pushing what's possible since you have two separate itineraries. i would not have booked that connection.

Thank you ZAP, fortunately I hadn't yet confirmed the booking so will reschedule to a later flight to Toronto. Kind regards

  • Baggage - Collect or booked straight through?

We are flying from London Heathrow DL0003 to Bogota DL0449 via JFK terminal 4. Two questions please: (1) Will our baggage be booked through from LHR to BOG, or do we have to pick this up at JFK and book it in again for the flight to Bogota? (2) The wait between flights is 2 hours 14 minutes. Assuming flights are on time, is this sufficient to ensure we can get to departures on Level 4? I am concerned that if we have to collect our baggage and book it in again, this may delay everything. Thanks.

You will arrive at Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Wow Zap, thanks for the fast reply. Much appreciated and very helpful. Regards.

  • connecting flight layover etsa or visa necessary?

Hi, I am an Irish citizen, flying from Toronto to Amsterdam via JFK New York. This is a single booking through Delta airlines - not two separate bookings. It says on my confirmation email the Toronto to JFK flight is with Gojet Airlines DBA Delta Connection, and my JFK to Amsterdam flight is with KLM. I would love to know if: - If I need to go through any customs or immigration check at JFK - If so do I need to apply for an ESTA - If my bags would get checked through or not - If not is it a simple get off plane and go to the designated gate for the second part of the journey - If anybody knows if I would need to change terminals I appreciate any help on here, difficult to find answers online.

You will preclear US Immigration in Toronto. You do not have to do anything with your baggage in JFK. You do need to complete ESTA because you will have to go through US Immigration in Toronto and have an Irish passport. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from terminal 4. Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security.

ZAP - thank you so much for this reply, takes a lot off my mind and makes things a ton clearer, really appreciate it.

  • Can T5 arriving passengers use wingtips lounge in T4?

I arrive in JFK at 7.30am on Sat on JetBlue T5, can I have access to the Wingtips lounge in T4 for couple of hours? I depart from T5 again Sunday night.

No, because you will not have a boarding pass departing JFK on Saturday.

Sigh! Are there any showers facility available for arriving passengers in JFK, I need to head out for a wedding lunch.

Hi. I Fly DL476 on Jan 26 from FLL to Brussels via JFK. What do I need to know about the connecting flight at JFK to BRU DL 408. Do I need to re-checkin my bags and do I need to go through security again? It seems that arrival and departure is terminal 4. Thanks.

No you do not have to do anything with your bags. Yes both flights will likely be in T4 but you may arrive in T2 which is connected inside security by a Delta shuttle bus.

I will be arriving at JFK coming from FLL at 6.35 pm and my connecting flight to BRU is at time 7.38 pm. Do I have enough time to catch my flight?

That's probably enough time. It doesn't leave a lot of time for delays but it should be enough time, even if you arrive in Terminal 2 (you will depart from Terminal 4).

Hello, our party of 5 are arrviving from Helsinki at 15.55 pm and need to make it to our connecting flight (American airlines) to San Francisco departing at 1745, everything in T8. We have ESTA, but still need to go through customs at JFK in order to get into the US. Do we also need to pick up our luggage and check it in again to SF? What are the odds on making it to the connecting flight?

That should be enough time. You can recheck your bags at the transfer desk after you clear customs.

There are baggage storage facilities on the lower levels of Terminals 1 and 4

  • Meeting Moscowvite... but where?

Greetings! Transaero flight from Moscow coming in Saturday... age old problem of having to meet someone with no cell phone in an airport the size of a small city!! Can I go to the baggage carousel without a ticket? How do I know which terminal she's arriving at? Is it on the ticket? Sorry so dumb!! Sigh!! Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in Advance!!!

Transaero uses Terminal 4. You cannot go to the baggage carousel for an international flight, however, you can meet her at the exit of customs. There will be a lot of other people waiting and standing there as well.

First of all, ZAP... wow! - thank you!!!! You are amazing!! Forgive me, but the Customs' exit... Terminal 4? I'm sure there is signage... do all international travelers go through the same customs exit regardless? (I read that online somewhere) - I'm actually trying to give her a phone before she boards a US Airways domestic connecting flight. Seriously, thank you again!!

Yes, usually all passengers come out the same exit. In T4 there is only one - here is a map of the lower level of T4 - http://www.jfkiat.com/maps/arrivals.pdf

Perfect!! Thanks a TON!!! So helpful!! We're putting our scheme together right now!! =O)

  • Can I access a different terminal to stay in a lounge??
    Nov 7, 2014

I will have a 12 hours layover coming soon. There is the wingtips lounge in terminal 4 wich is open 24 hours, but I will be arriving into terminal 1. My next flight is from terminal 8 next early morning. Will I be able to access into terminal 4 to the lounge??

No, you will not because you won't have a boarding pass departing JFK that day.

Hi my partner and I are flying into JFK from Shannon, Ireland at 14.40 in December. As far as I know we clear customs in Shannon. Would anyone have an idea roughly of what time we would be leaving the airport having picked up our luggage and taking that everything goes according to schedule? Thanks in advance!

I would estimate 20-30 minutes after arrival.

Thanks very much for your response :)

I will be landing in JFK from Berlin @ 305p on Air Berlin and I have a separate flight that departs on Jetblue at 635p. With going through customs, transferring to a different terminal, will I be able to make the 635p or is that cutting it close?

That should be enough time. Since Air Berlin and JetBlue do not have an interline agreement. You will have to take your bags to T5 to re-check them with JetBlue. You will take the AirTrain from Terminal 8 where you will arrive to Terminal 5 where you will depart.

Hi there Do wheelchair bound passengers have a separate line for immigrations? Do their accompanying family members join them throughout?

While there is no special lane at 'immigration' (only internationally arriving passengers go through passport check, pick up bags, & go through customs clearance) - a friend or relative can get a special pass at your airline's counter, entitling him/her to pick you up at the airline gate. Give your party the name of the airline, the terminal at which arrives & the scheduled arrivals time. Wheelchairs need to be ordered at least 48 hrs prior to departure from your airline. If you did not order one yet, your party may request one at the airline counter (if one is available.)
