  • Need Help in Knowing Baggage Handling Assistance available in JFK
    Apr 16, 2015
Hi , My wife and kid both will be coming to JFK . From there they have to catch a connecting Flight. In JFK , she needs to pick up all the 4 check in bags and needs to re-check again for connecting Flight. It is very difficult to do so, when having a kid in hands. Is there any sort assistance / Service available in JFK for baggage handling ? Kindly help me with your inputs.

There are people called skycaps who help people with their luggage for money. But there is no guarantee that one will be available when your wife needs one. There is no way to book one in advance. Perhaps she should pack a small foldable luggage cart into one of her bags.

  • International Layover in JFK
    Apr 1, 2015
I'm flying from Detroit to Frankfurt with a layover in JFK. Same airline. I'm travelling for several months so I have several bags, will I need to recheck bags at JFK? I'm thinking not since I'm originating in the US and have a layover in the US, but can someone weigh in?

No, you do not have to do anything with your bags in JFK.

  • transfer timing from Newark to JFK
    Mar 30, 2015
Canadian arriving Newark from Calgary on Air Canada 0584, 19:26 on a Thursday night in May. Connecting flight is Lanchile 2531 at 23:55 from JFK ( Never let the 18 yr old book flights without supervision ). Is that going to be enough time? Where do we pick up our baggage in Newark? Is US Customs close by? Best way to transfer to JFK? (prefer fast and direct rather than cheapest way) How long before Lanchile flight do we have to get to their checkin? Thanks! Appreciate any help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary, so you can just go directly to the baggage claim in Newark. The fastest route is simply to take a Taxi. It will cost around $100 but it will be the fastest, especially at that time of the evening. If your flight from Calgary is on-time you will be at JFK by 21:30-22:00, which leaves you plenty of time.

  • Meet with friend - arriving at almost the same time
    Mar 17, 2015
Hi, My girlfriend and I will arrive from different places. I will be arriving 20 minutes earlier than her and at Terminal 4 - she will arrive at Terminal 8... Obviously I would like to meet her but where? I have absolutely no idea! Hopefully you can help! Both of us have to go through immigration since we are arriving from Europe.. Cheers and thanks for any answer!

You can take the AIrTrain to Terminal 8 and then go to the lower level and meet her at the exit of customs.

  • Time transit

We arrive on a SAA flight from Johannesburg at 06h40 at JFK. We are planning to fly out on Cayman Air at 08h45. Is 2 hours enough, to clear customs, collect baggage, change terminals and recheck? Any possibility of checking baggage through to GCM at Jnb?

SAA and Cayman do not have an interline agreement and regardless, you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs upon arrival at JFK. The Cayman Airways check-in will close at 7:45. You will have to be at the Cayman Airways check-in desk by that time or you will not be able to fly. Also, as you may know, the Cayman Airways flight does not operate daily. This is a very difficult and risky connection.

  • USAir from PHX to JFK then American from JFK to MXP with 1 hour betwee
    Mar 9, 2015
I am flying on USAir from Phoenix to JFK and I only have a 1 hour connection time to make my American flight from JFK to MXP. I believe all my flights are in the same terminal and that with the merger my luggage will be checked through. Should I be worried about the tight connection time?

You should be fine if you first flight is on-time. You are correct about baggage and the Terminal.

  • making connection flight
    Mar 8, 2015
arriving from Dubai on EmiratesAirlines at 8:20 am terminal 4 , have to catch Air canada flight 8903 departure time 10:30 am, have no baggage , do i have enough time to make the connection?? any advise???

You will have to hope your Emirates flight is on-time and that immigration isn't backed up, then run to the AirTrain and take it to Terminal 7. It is possible, but there's very little room for error.

  • JFK to BOS
    Mar 8, 2015
I've booked a UK to JFK flight in September & intended on driving to Boston & taking in a few places on route. However, I think it may be better to fly direct & hire a car up there. I'd appreciate advise with regards booking the JFK/BOS flight ie how much time to leave to navigate the baggage reclaim, immigration, terminals etc & where do I stand with delays as they are booked seperately? Would I be better booking the flight on arriving at JFK? Thanks in advance!

I would not wait until booking the flight until you arrive in JFK unless you have lots of money to spend as tickets on day of departure are quite expensive. JetBlue offers lots of flights from JFK to Boston and is fairly flexibile regarding day of departure flight changes. You can also check in for your JFK-BOS flight online before leaving the UK. I recommend leaving 3 hours between your scheduled arrival and departure.

  • Enough time?
    Mar 5, 2015
I will be flying into JFK from Tampa on Delta. Flight arrives at 9:49am. Not sure which terminal. I have to then get to my South African Airways flight that leaves for JNB at 11:15am. I believe this flight leaves from terminal 4. These tickets were purchased separetely since we couldnt find an affordable flight from FL to JNB. Is this enough time? Do we have to re-go through security in JFK? Not planning on checking any bags.

That's barely enough time if you aren't checking bags. You will have to race to the South African Airways check-in counter, get your boarding passes, and go through security. If you are able to check in online (you probably will not). Then you can go directly to your departure gate in Terminal 4.

  • AirTran/switching terminals
    Mar 1, 2015
I will be arriving to terminal 1 (from JAL) and headed to Fort Lauderdale around 9:50 pm out of terminal 5. (3 hr 30 m layover) We will be traveling with an infant. When switching terminals, are we ever outside or is it all in doors? (I want a heads up if I'll need to take my baby outside) Will we have enough time to get through customs and check our bags in? Also, some sites say free some say $5 charge. Will I need to pay per person $5 to go from terminal 1 to terminal 5? Thanks!

The AirTrain is free between terminals. There is covered, but not climate controlled connection between T1 and the AirTrain. You should have enough time if your flight from Japan is on-time.

  • Flight from Toronto to France with layover in JFK
    Feb 24, 2015
I will be flying American Airlines from Toronto, with a connecting flight in JFK out to Paris. Do I have to go through customs? and I only have a layover of 1:30 hours.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 8.

I left my wallet at MAC terminal 4 and have called the 7514001 number. They do not have the MAC store number. Will someone please post the contact number there. Google shows no number for this store location.

  • Leave JFK Airport after customs, Port-Of-Entry
    Feb 19, 2015
Hey y'all, So I'm flying in a couple months from Brazil to Washington DC. It looks like Belo Horizonte - Rio de Janeiro - New York JFK - Washington. However, I want to visit my buddy in New York and would like to ditch my last flight from NY to DC. I'm aware that NY is my port-of-entry into the US, so I will be receiving my luggage there for customs, correct? I want to know if I can collect my bags, do customs, and leave the airport and not take the last flight from NY to DC. Does anyone know? Thank you so much!

Yes, once you clear customs in JFK you will have your luggage and be outside the secure area and legally clear to go where you want. However, if the JFK-Washington flight is not the very last flight of your itinerary and you skip it (for example if you are flying back to Brazil on the same reservation), your airline may cancel the entire rest of your itinerary.

Yeah, the JFK-DC flight is the last one on the flight. My hope was to spend time in NY instead of taking that flight home. Awesome! Thanks for your help :)
