Do you go through regular security at jfk or customes, when leaving from New York City itself, on an international flight?

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You just have to go through security like any other flight.

  • Enough time between flights
    Apr 29, 2016
We arrive from Rome at 4:30 PM at terminal 4 on Delta with two checked bags. Do we have to go through customs at JFK? Will we have enough time to catch our 6:30 PM flight out of terminal 2 at 6:30 PM?

Yes, in JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. Then if your flight does depart from T2, you can either go through security in T4 and take the shuttle to T2 or take the AirTrain to T2 and go through security there. You should have just enough time.

  • is 2.5 hours connection time sufficient?
    Apr 27, 2016
I am arriving JFK on Delta Airline at 1829 hours and need to connect to Singapore Airline that is departing at 2055 hrs. Will I be on time for the Singapore Airline flight?

Do you have checked bags? Is the Delta flight domestic or international? With checked bags on a domestic flight this is possible but difficult. International to International this will be very difficult.

  • connecting from a domestic to international flight booked separately
    Apr 26, 2016
I will be originating in ATL with a separate flight (already booked) from JFK to Germany. When booking my flight from ATL to JFK how much time should I give myself to get through the process? I'm not sure if I will have to check a bag in which case I assume I will have to go through security again..?

Depending on what airlines you're flying you may have to go through security anyway regardless of whether you check a bag. With a checked bag I definitely recommend 3 hours between flights.

I'm looking at a flight with Delta into JFK landing at 2:33 and my flight into Germany is with Air Berlin departing at 5:25. That should be enough time?

That should be just about enough time.

  • Security or not? connecting domestic to international flight
    Apr 22, 2016
Hi, I have a domestic flight with Virgin arriving JFK then an international flight to Paris departing with XL Airway (I understand it's the same terminal?). The flights are booked on different reservations, the layover time is about 2 hours. Do I need to go through security again or just go to my departure gate, as I am leaving the country, not entering it?

If you do not have checked bags you can go directly to your XL Airways France gate. If you do have checked bags you will have to claim them, re-check them with XL Airways, then go through security.

  • luggage lost that was last seen/checked in to JFK
    Apr 18, 2016
Hi- my luggage has been missing for over a month now and I was informed that it had never arrived to my destination (Gatwick). The last it was seen/checked in was in JFK where I had departed from. I haven't yet returned to NYC, but is it possible to claim lost luggage from JFK if it had gone missing there? I worry and suspect if someone from JFK had mishandled or taken it. Could I file a police report in case it was stolen from the airport after check in? There is no record of it except from check in at JFK. How can I go about claiming what was lost, aside from the airline if it was lost from JFK?

  • Need to catch a flight to DC after returning from Peru
    Apr 18, 2016
Hi -I live in DC and am traveling to Peru this summer. My flights on LAN depart/return Terminal 8, JFK. I am making a separate reservation on American to fly from DC to JFK, then on return home again from JFK to DC. How much time should I allow between flights? I am especially concerned about the return flights. Will 2.5 hours be enough to get my bags, go through US customs, then recheck my bags? Thanks for any help you can give.

2.5 hours would be barely enough time on the return.

  • Concerned about time to get to my connecting flight
    Apr 17, 2016
Hi! I'm a Dutch tourist travelling from Brussels (BE) to Santo Domingo (DR). I will be arriving at JFK airport at May 15th 13:22 and my connecting flight will depart at May 15th 14:59. Both flights are done by Delta Airlines. I am a bit worried about the time I've got, since I have one checked in bag and no experience with American airports and connecting flights. Can someone tell me if I will be able to make it and what things I can expect?

That will be very difficult. You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate, also in Terminal 4.

  • BA terminal 7 to AA terminal 8
    Apr 17, 2016
I just would like to know whether we need to carry the luggage after immigration and custom all the way from terminal 7 to terminal 8 or is there any local "check-in" in terminal 7 (international arrival) itself in JFK?

...and I have 3 1/2 hrs time in between flights (obviously most of the time will be spent on immigration and customs)

If both tickets were purchased on the same reservation then your bags will be tagged to your final destination and you can re-check them at the re-check desk in Terminal 7.

  • Layover time

I'm taking a flight from Korea on Korean Air to JFK arriving 11:30 AM and taking a 1:59 Jet Blue flight to Savannsh. I have Global entry pass, will I have enough time? Thanks

With no checked baggage and global entry I think this is possible. With checked baggage I think it would be really difficult.

  • Adequate transfer time
    Apr 16, 2016
I'm traveling fro Atlanta to JFK and have 2 hours to catch Korean Air to Seoul. 1 ticket. Is this enough time?

That should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 2 or 4, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 1 and go through security.

  • enough time?
    Apr 12, 2016
Im traveling from LHR to Lax via JFK, have to clear Immigration, and probably recheck bags, have a 2hr 15 minute layover, will this be enough time?

What airlines are you flying? Are your flights all on the same reservation or two separate ones?

  • transfer between Delta flights
    Apr 10, 2016
Will fly from Schiphol to JFK to Santo Domingo with Delta (4 hrs time for my transfer). Will Delta takes care of my baggage or do I need to collect and re-check them?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. Yes, you have plenty of time.

    Tnx ZAP!

  • Rental car

Hi, I'm arriving from Germany(Danish Citizen) on the 13th at 12:05 - I'm going to Syracuse, however since the connecting flights does not fit my schedule, I will rent a car. How long do you think the wait will be from arriving (just hand luggage) until I can be on my way in a pre-rented car?

Probably at least 2 hours. Realize that the traffic around NYC is horrible. It will take you at least 5 hours to drive to Syracuse. Also I recommend not taking the default google maps route that has you going across upper Manhattan to the George Washington Bridge and into New Jersey, Instead I recommend the route that takes you straight north from JFK across the Whitestone Bridge and the Bronx and then up into Westchester County and then eventually across the Hudson at the Tappan Zee Bridge.
