Hi, I'm arriving from Germany(Danish Citizen) on the 13th at 12:05 - I'm going to Syracuse, however since the connecting flights does not fit my schedule, I will rent a car. How long do you think the wait will be from arriving (just hand luggage) until I can be on my way in a pre-rented car?

Probably at least 2 hours. Realize that the traffic around NYC is horrible. It will take you at least 5 hours to drive to Syracuse. Also I recommend not taking the default google maps route that has you going across upper Manhattan to the George Washington Bridge and into New Jersey, Instead I recommend the route that takes you straight north from JFK across the Whitestone Bridge and the Bronx and then up into Westchester County and then eventually across the Hudson at the Tappan Zee Bridge.

  • time required to transfer from domestic flight to international flight

Hello, We are flying into JFK from CHS on a Jet Blue flight and are getting on a Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul set to leave 1 hr and 30 min after our Jet Blue flight arrives (and we purchased to two tickets independently). Is that enough time? I assume checking bags is not an option? Thanks!

With no checked bags that's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly. If you haven't booked this yet I would really reconsider.

  • Baggage drop off at midnight

Im coming from Caracas,VE to SFO, doing the following route:dec1st CCS-MIA-JFk(arrive at 11pm in JFK) and dec 2nd JFK-SFO at 10:30am. All with AA. Today I got an email from AA saying that my reservation was changed from the entire route to SFO to a leg for each day(ccsmiaJFK one leg and JFK-SFO the other) so I now have as the last destination JFK on dec1st (day my trip starts and drop my cheked bags in venezuela)and my bags will be cheked all the way to JFk(I know I have to redrop them at mia) wich means that I will have to check in for my next day flight to SFO. During my layover I would like to go downtown without my bags , so my question is: can I dropoff my bags at 11pm/midnight for my next day 10:30am flight to SFO!?

You will have to ask the AA agents in JFK.

Hi, I'm a Georgian citizen and I'm flying into JFK in May with UIA I arrive at terminal 7, I have to transfer to Terminal 5 for a Jetblue flight to Barbados, will my luggage be checked right through to Barbados and will I need a transit visa

Yes, you need a transit visa. Ukraine International and JetBlue do not have an interline agreement. You will have to take your bags with you to Terminal 5 to re-check them with JetBlue.

I'm scheduled to arrive in JFK from Milan at 19:00 on a Monday night. My connecting flight leaves from the JetBlue terminal at 21:20. I'm a US citizen and all the tickets are under the same reservation. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time.

If I check a bag will that still be enough time? Thanks ZAP!

    Yes, it should be.

hi, im traveling from phoenix to jfk and then have my connecting flight to london, air france, terminal 1. do ihave to check my bags again nyc if i already went through the process in phoenix? and will i have enough time to catch my flight if i only have 1 hour and a half from arrival to departure time? thanks.

If all tickets are on the same reservation then you don't have to do anything with your bags in NYC on your way to London. You just have to take the AirTrain to Terminal 1 and go through security. You should have enough time in that case.

I am coming into JFK from Amsterdam on DL48 at 12:56 and comsider booking another DL connection from JFK to Rochester at 4:35. I worry I may not have enough transit time. I am a non us Citizen and have to recheck my bags. Can you help, please?

Yes, that should be enough time. If you do book it you can have Delta combine your two reservations so your bags will be tagged through to ROC so you can re-check your bags at the re-check your bags a the re-check desk after clearing US Customs rather than having to take them to the Delta check-in desk and paying a checked bag fee.

  • Meet a friend at JFK
    Feb 15, 2016
I have a connecting flight from ATL-Atlanta to BCN-Barcelona with a connecting flight at JFK. Arrive at JFK at 12:45 pm and leave at 7:30 - 6 hours, 45 minute layover . Can anyone suggest a plan to meet up with my granddaughter who lives in NY?

What airlines are you flying? Do you want to leave the airport grounds or stay on airport property?

I'm flying Delta. I didn't think there would be time to leave the airport property but it would be great if I could.

Then I would recommend meeting her on the baggage claim level of Terminal 4.

  • Enough Time International to Domestic/Separate Tics
    Feb 1, 2016
Arriving at JFK from Abu Dhabi 9:35am -- Terminal 4. Investigating purchase of next leg at 12pm/noon American AA2080. (I'm not sure of the terminal.) The next flight is 5pm, so would love to secure the noon flight. Is 2.5 hours enough time? Separate tickets, I'll have checked bags. I have Global Entry. (But not all in party do!) Thanks.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Abu Dhabi. All you will have to do is claim your bags from Etihad in Terminal 4 and take them on the AirTrain to Terminal 8 to re-check with American then go through security. You should be able to make the noon flight.

Thanks so much! This forum is really helpful. Silly question perhaps but why pre-clear US Immigration/Customs in Abu Dhabi?

Because Etihad and the Abu Dhabi Emirate wanted it and were willing to pay for it - they have preclearance.
