Hi there! We arrive at JFK at 11.30 on Oct 16 from UK. We need to get to the City Clerks office asap, as we need to get a Marriage Licence, so we can get married on Oct 17. How long will it take us to clear customs at that time of day? Thanks

30-45 minutes. October is one of the lower months for international traffic in the United States.

Cool! thanks so much for your response!

Hi, I am arriving to JFK from Argentina on Sept 16th at 9am, how long would it take to go through US Immigration and customs? I need to catch a bus to Boston so I might need to calculate time between both transports. Thanks

It will probably take between 30 and 45 minutes, but may take up to an hour.

I fly from Dublin to JFK with connecting flight to Miami on Thur 31st July. I know I will have pre-clearance as an Irish citizen. I will request to check my baggage thro' from Dublin to Miami. But, will I have to collect my luggge at JFK and drop it to connecting flight system? Thankyou.

At JFK you will be considered to be a 'domestic arrival' - you may proceed your journey by going to your connecting gate. Your JFK arrival & departure depends on which airline(s) you are taking. I therefore suggest you open www.ifly.com/jfk, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Possible to meet at the gate after international flight?

I'm trying to get my 74-year old father who lives overseas to come for a visit. He hasn't travelled before and does not speak English. Is it possible for me to arrange to meet him at the gate and take him through the immigration and customs? Are there any other options? He won't be able to navigate the airport on his own.

No, you cannot meet him at the gate. You can however meet him after the immigration queue if you're coming into the same terminal. He doesn't have to do much "navigation" as he will be funneled towards the Immigration queue.

  • 9-hour connection

Hello, I would like to know if I can leave the airport between two flights, since I have a 9-hour connection ? I have a connection in JFK on my way from Chile to France. Thanks

Yes, you are allowed to leave the airport. You will have to pass through US Immigration on arrival and when you exit customs you will be outside security. However, you won't have a whole lot of time to do anything. It takes quite a while to get from JFK to anything worth seeing.

  • Enough time for connecting flight?

Hi, i will be flying in to JFK via Singapore airlines, arriving at 11am. I have a connecting flight to Boston via jetblue at 1:29pm. I have check-in luggage. Is the connecting time sufficient? Also is there anything else that i should take note? Thank you.

Were your tickets purchased separately or together? JetBlue and Singapore do have an interline agreement so if your tickets were purchased together you can re-check them after you clear customs and not have to take them to T5 to re-check. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

On July 31st, I fly from Djublin to JFK on American Airlines arriving into Terminal 8. I continue from Ter 8 to Miami wkith same airline. I have my ESTA. Do I need to collect my bag, and go through immigration? I have 3 hours between flights. Or do I go immigration at Miami?

You will pre-clear US Immigration in Dublin. You will have plenty of time in JFK. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

My son arrives at Terminal 4 on El Al from Israel at 3:30 p.m. How long will it take him to go through customs and get his bags and be outside for pick up

I would guess about 45 minutes from when the aircraft arrives at the gate.

I'm arriving in JFK on a domestic flight and the next flight to Canada is in 1h40min(both on AA). Is that enough time?

You arrive & depart from Terminal 8 which has Concourse B with gate 1-16, and near its gate 14 is access to Concourse C with gates 31-47. You have enough time.

I am arriving to JFK from Quebec City and have the flight to Amsterdam after two hours. Both flights are KLM. Is 2 hours enough to do all the immigration/security operations and to board my luggage into the second flight?

KLM does not fly to Quebec City. Your Quebec City-JFK flight will be operated by Delta Connection. Since Quebec City does not have Immigration pre-clearance you will arrive in Terminal 4 where you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags. Then you will go up the departure level and through security and to your departure gate, which will also be in Terminal 4. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. You should be issued both boarding passes in Quebec City.

Yes you are right about Delta Connection. Why do I need to re-check my bags? Can I send them directly from Quebec City to AMS?

Because any time you enter the US from a foreign country without pre-clearance you have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. They will be tagged through to AMS in YQB but you will have to claim them, go through customs, and re-check them in JFK. There will be a re-check desk after you exit customs.

  • People Travel on different airline to JFK

I have a friends son who is travelling to JFK on his own (16) with Delta from LHR and joining us to fly onto Savannah. We are travelling with BA on the same day and arrive within 30 minutes of each other. Therefore we arrive at different terminals and I wonder what is the best place for us to meet as I presume there is not a central passport control area so need advice about how to find each other?

Meet on the departure level of the terminal for the airline you are flying to Savannah.

I will arrive in JFK at 3:30AM at Terminal 4 on May. How long does it take to pass through Customs and take my luggage?

At that time of the day it should be very quick. Probably less than 30 mins.

    Thanks!

We will arrive at JFK from Dubai (t4) with Emirates and depart to JAX with JetBlue(t5). What Does Terminal do Us custom inspection.

You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through customs in T4. Then take the AirTrain to T5 and go through security.

  • Where to have a skype meeting in terminal 8

I need to join a meeting in Skype 2 hours before taking my flight in Terminal 8. Where should I go and is there free wi-fi?

JFK has pay wi-fi that is $4.95 per hour or $7.95 per day. You could also buy a day pass to the AA Admirals Club, which will give you more peace and quiet and free-wifi.
