HI, urgent - check in luggage process in LAX Sydney to Cleveland: Sydney (SYD) to Los Angeles (LAX) QF Qantas Airways Flight: 107 Then same day transit Los Angeles (LAX)to Cleveland (CLE) UA United Flight: 1665 Can I make the luggage check-in at Sydney airport and go directly to Cleveland? ( without need to take check-in luggage out at LA airport) If not, what will be the procedure? and how far between Qantas and United? It is a 16 yr boy travelling alone for the first time so need to get the information clear before hand,Thanks for your assistance, appreciated.

There's no need to post this multiple times. Your question was answered yesterday. He will have to claim his luggage in order to go through US Customs. Then on the exit to US Customs at the TBIT he should follow the signs for connecting passengers - there will be a United Airlines transfer desk where he can re-check his bags. Then he will exit the International Terminal and walk to the right (with the flow of traffic) about 200 meters to Terminal 7 where he will go through security for his departure gate to Cleveland.

  • Pick-up baggage for layover?
    Jul 30, 2014

I'm landing in LAX tomorrow on a flight from Vancouver, Canada, so I'll have to go through customs upon landing. I have a two hour layover before catching another flight to Indianapolis. Both flights are on American however I built the connect myself, rather than buying a pre-existing or offered layover. Will my baggage automatically transfer or will I have to claim it because of customs and then re-check my baggage?

Actually you will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Vancouver so you will not have to do that at LAX. All you will have to do is claim your bags then take them to AA and check them with them. This is because you bought two separate tickets.

Does Virgin America have a baggage transfer service even if my flights are not connected?

It depends on the airline you're transferring to. Here are the airlines that Virgin America transfers baggage with - http://www.virginamerica.com/travel/virgin-partners.html
