  • Luggage and Manhattan beach.

Hi, I am travelling from Heathrow-L.A.X-Auckland, i arrive at 3.05pm and depart at 10.40pm all booked as one ticket direct with A.A. My question is will i have to collect my luggage or will it be checked through to the Auckland flight automatically, and if so will i have time to visit Manhattan Beach? Thanks.

Yes, in LAX you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then you are free to go where you want. Be back at the airport by 8:30.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, so i can recheck my bag straight away, a few hours ahead of the actual flight? Thanks.

    Yes, you can.

Thank you, i have been struggling to determine if it would have been better or easier for me too take a large rucksack rather than a conventional suitcase in case i couldn't check it in hours ahead so i could leave for a few hours, Thanks again.

Hi! Arriving LAX via AA at 3pm and departing also with AA going to SFO at 4:40pm. Do i have enough time to clear the immigration and customs and to recheck my bagagge for the next flight? Thanks

Where are you flying into LAX from?

Im flying from Bahrain-Heathrow-LAX-SFO via AA..thanks

That is barely enough time if everything goes smoothly. If you miss your connection you will be rebooked on a later AA flight to SFO.

The rebooking is free of charge?thanks

Flying with my family through LAX from Costa Rica to Las Vegas. All with Delta on the same itinerary. The layover is only 1 hour and 15 min. Is that enough time?

That will be really difficult if not impossible, especially if you have checked bags.

That's just enough time if the first flight is domestic and everything goes smoothly.

  • Layer over time from Hawaii to Vegas
    Oct 10, 2016
Hi there, I'm looking to book a flight from Hawaii to Las Vegas is a 1 layover enough? I'm from the UK my first flight into the US two weeks earlier.

What airlines are you flying? Are your flights on one reservation or two separate reservations? Do you have checked bags?

Hi there I'm looking to fly from Hawaii to las vegas is a one layover long enough? I'm from the UK but I'll be flying into Washington two weeks earlier before heading to Hawaii. Will I have to collect my bags all will the airline do that for me if both flights are with the same airline?

If both flights are on the same airline then you won't have to do anything with your bags in Los Angeles and all you would have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. 1 Hour would be enough time.

  • 6 hr layover at lax with 2 snall children
    Oct 11, 2016
Arriving at LAX at 3:50pm (via Virgin America) and leaving at 10:35pm (via Virgin Australia). Travelling with 2children ages 2&4. Any suggestions for passing 6 hr 45 min layover? Stay in airport? Leave airport? Suggestions, Please?.

I would stay at the airport. There isn't really enough time for you to do much and it will be the middle of rush hour when you arrive.

I humbly disagree with the previous post. It depends how old your children are. I often travel with my kids and staying in LAX for over 6 hours would KILL me! It is the WORST airport in the nation. Nothing to do! I would look at a place called Marina Del Rey Fishermans Village. About 15-20 min away by cab. Not an amusement park, but enough to keep kids busy walking around looking at seals and boats, grab a snack etc for about 2-3 hours. Best thing is, no FREEWAYS to drive on at that time!

  • Yvr - lax - sjo

I'm planning a trip from vancouver to San Jose, Costa Rica with a lay over in lax on delta airlines the lay over is 1hr 40mins. Will this be enough time? And will I have to collect baggage or should it go straight though? Thanks

Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in LAX on your way to SJO is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Arriving from Rome layover 3 hours then to Portland OR
    Sep 12, 2016
After clearing US customs we want to meet Santa Monica based son for dinner before our 8:30pm flight to PDX. Do you advise dining at airport restaurant given layover time of 3 hours? Where?

The only restaurants outside security is the food court in the international terminal, and the food there is atrocious. Also, you don't really have time anyway.

  • BOS -> BNE; SYD-> BOS via LAX...layovers?
    Sep 8, 2016
Hi, I have a flight from BOS to LAX to BNE on Delta soon, then back from SYD to LAX to BOS. Delta reps have said a 1hr 45 min layover to BNE and a 1hr 15 min layover to BOS will be sufficient. They also say the luggage will be checked through, and we won't have to pick it up. They also say, at least on the way out, both the arrival and departure will be in Terminal 5. But if you ask Virgin Australia about the same flight...which they codeshare... they'tt tell you a different terminal, you have to walk your bags, etc. So who's right? Has anyone gone to and from AU from LAX recently? What terminal, layover and luggage issues did you have (or not have)?

Almost everything they told you on the phone is wrong. On the way out you will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from the International Terminal, your bags will be checked through and 1 hr 45 is enough time. it is now possible to go from T5 to the International Terminal inside security. on the return 1 hr 15 minutes definitely is NOT enough time. You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Custons, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to Terminal 5 and go through security.

  • Meeting a friend at TBIT - traveliing on different flights
    Aug 31, 2016
My friend is arriving from Vancouver at Terminal 7 at 4.30 pm and leaving from TBIT for Brisbane at 11.20 pm. I am leaving from TBIT for Fiji at 11.30 pm. Where is the best place to meet?

You can meet at the security checkpoint in the TBIT

Will my frind have to go thru the security checkpoint again at TBIT?

If he's on two separate reservations and has checked baggage, yes, he will.

    Thanks for the help

  • Long layover
    Aug 14, 2016
Flying into Lax from Phx. Land at 8:30am. On a separate ticket flying with Turkish airlines at 16:55. What time does the check-in desk open to check in our luggage. Any ideas where we can hang out until then?

I imagine the Turkish check-in desk will open at about 12:30-13:00. You can take a taxi to Santa Monica, it only takes about 20 minutes.

  • How much time to have
    Aug 8, 2016
I'm looking to arrive at LAX from Atlanta on AA at 6.45pm, then have a 10.05pm flight to Australia with Qantas - is this enough time?

Yes, that is plenty of time. If both tickets are on the same reservation all you have to do is go through the new connector building to the International terminal and to your departure gate.

  • Staying in terminals
    Jul 26, 2016
Can you stay in the terminals during closed hours in the areas before passing through security? I have an overnight layover and was hoping not to have to pay for a hotel

Yes, you can, although there's not much to do outside security in any terminal other than the International Terminal (I believe the International Terminal food court closes at about 11 PM and reopens at about 4 or 5 AM - maybe the McDonalds stays open all night).
