Tips and ideas on how to best spend a layover at Los Angeles airport. Got a favorite quiet place to connect to wifi? A great bar or restaurant? Maybe an exhibit or a walk? Share your LAX Airport layover experiences with others, or post a question and get notified when there is a response.
Hi there I'm looking to fly from Hawaii to las vegas is a one layover long enough? I'm from the UK but I'll be flying into Washington two weeks earlier before heading to Hawaii. Will I have to collect my bags all will the airline do that for me if both flights are with the same airline?
If both flights are on the same airline then you won't have to do anything with your bags in Los Angeles and all you would have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. 1 Hour would be enough time.
Arriving at LAX at 3:50pm (via Virgin America) and leaving at 10:35pm (via Virgin Australia). Travelling with 2children ages 2&4. Any suggestions for passing 6 hr 45 min layover? Stay in airport? Leave airport? Suggestions, Please?.
I would stay at the airport. There isn't really enough time for you to do much and it will be the middle of rush hour when you arrive.
I humbly disagree with the previous post. It depends how old your children are. I often travel with my kids and staying in LAX for over 6 hours would KILL me! It is the WORST airport in the nation. Nothing to do! I would look at a place called Marina Del Rey Fishermans Village. About 15-20 min away by cab. Not an amusement park, but enough to keep kids busy walking around looking at seals and boats, grab a snack etc for about 2-3 hours. Best thing is, no FREEWAYS to drive on at that time!
I'm planning a trip from vancouver to San Jose, Costa Rica with a lay over in lax on delta airlines the lay over is 1hr 40mins. Will this be enough time? And will I have to collect baggage or should it go straight though? Thanks
Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in LAX on your way to SJO is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
I have a flight from BOS to LAX to BNE on Delta soon, then back from SYD to LAX to BOS.
Delta reps have said a 1hr 45 min layover to BNE and a 1hr 15 min layover to BOS will be sufficient. They also say the luggage will be checked through, and we won't have to pick it up. They also say, at least on the way out, both the arrival and departure will be in Terminal 5.
But if you ask Virgin Australia about the same flight...which they codeshare... they'tt tell you a different terminal, you have to walk your bags, etc.
So who's right? Has anyone gone to and from AU from LAX recently? What terminal, layover and luggage issues did you have (or not have)?
Almost everything they told you on the phone is wrong. On the way out you will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from the International Terminal, your bags will be checked through and 1 hr 45 is enough time. it is now possible to go from T5 to the International Terminal inside security. on the return 1 hr 15 minutes definitely is NOT enough time. You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Custons, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to Terminal 5 and go through security.
Flying into Lax from Phx. Land at 8:30am. On a separate ticket flying with Turkish airlines at 16:55. What time does the check-in desk open to check in our luggage. Any ideas where we can hang out until then?
I imagine the Turkish check-in desk will open at about 12:30-13:00.
You can take a taxi to Santa Monica, it only takes about 20 minutes.
Can you stay in the terminals during closed hours in the areas before passing through security? I have an overnight layover and was hoping not to have to pay for a hotel
Yes, you can, although there's not much to do outside security in any terminal other than the International Terminal (I believe the International Terminal food court closes at about 11 PM and reopens at about 4 or 5 AM - maybe the McDonalds stays open all night).
