  • 1 hour and 40 min layover enough
    Feb 17, 2016
Hello I will be arriving from Syd to lax at 7:50 am in June on American Airlines and then clear customs to catch my domestic flight which leaves at 9:45 am on American Airlines. Is this sufficient time or will I miss the flight? Also I am a wheel chair passengers will there be any priority?

That should be just about enough time. Yes, you will bypass the security line in your departure terminal and go to a special line for immigration.

  • 4 hours layover - 2 separate tickets and different airlines
    Feb 11, 2016
Landing at LAX Terminal B at 17.30 (with Norwegian) and need to catch a Southwest flight from Terminal 1 at 21.30. I am an European citizen, never travelled to America before but quite swift and confident about new airports. I'll have a checked -in bag tough. Is 4 hour layover ok?

    Same answer as before.

  • Layover needed having a checked-in luggage
    Feb 11, 2016
Hi, I will be flying from London (Norwegian airline) to LAX and landing at 17.30. The flight I am looking to buy takes off at 20.30 from LAX (to Tucson) with Delta airlines. Is 3 hour layover long enough to get my luggage back, go through customs/passport check and check-in again with different airline?? P.s. My first long haul flight and my first time in America but I am quite used to travel by myself and get things sorted even if not familiar with the airport. Thanks Martina

Yes, that should be enough time as long as your Norwegian flight is somewhere close to on-time.

I know they are not well known for being on time :( That's why I am choosing the 21.30 flight. However, I was worried about passport clear and baggage claim waiting time too...

Passport control and baggage are generally pretty good at the TBIT at LAX, especially at that time of the evening when it's not very busy.

    Great. Thanks for the info.

  • Santa Barbara to LAX to Lima, Peru
    Jan 28, 2016
Hi! I am wondering if I should book a flight with a 1 hour 45 minute layover at LAX when traveling to Peru. I am not a frequent traveler and don't know if my luggage would make this. Should I book the flight with the 3 hour 45 minute layover instead?

What airlines are you flying? Are all tickets on the same reservation or separate?

I will be flying into LAX from SBA on United Express. It looks to me like it drops off at Terminal 7 or 8. From LAX to Lima, Peru, I'll be using LAN Peru. Based on the map I'm looking at--LAN Peru is located at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Based on the map of LAX that I found online--these terminals are found at opposite ends of the airport. Based on the few other flights I've had departing from LAX--it's a really big airport!

I would book the 3 hr 45 minute connection then.

  • Flight Transfers

Hi! We are planning to book Southwest arriving at LAX 7:10am to make our Delta International Flight departing 10:40am to Singapore. Is 3.4 hours enough to transfer flights? We do have check in baggage

Yes, that should be enough time.

Delta bumped our 70 min layover down to 55 mins. We arrive in LAX from ATL at 9:25 AM and depart to HNL at 10:20 AM. All Delta, booked under the same ticket. The change is not a big enough change to get to switch it to a later flight for free. There is only like 2 more nonstop flights going out that day after ours, we have 4 people (2 which are kids), and have a ship to catch the next day. How worried should I be with this change?

I wouldn't be worried that is still a very comfortable connection and with 2 more flights that day you should definitely get there.

  • Layover
    Jan 24, 2016
I fly back home from El Salvador on delta making a 1.5 layover in Lax before boarding to Seattle then back to Calgary. Is this enough tim? Also if I do miss the flight what would my options be? Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time. If you miss your connection they will rebook you to Calgary the best way they can.

  • 6 hour night layover Delta LAX
    Jan 13, 2016
Hi, I will be flying domestic to LAX and international out (both Delta). I have a 6 hour layover in LAX, but it is 7pm to 1 am, yuck. Looks like Delta has a new snazzy terminal 5 at LAX, but I'm wondering what I will do for 6 night time hours. ANyone have recent experience?

There are now tunnels connecting Terminals 4 through 6 inside security and 6 is also connected to 7 and 8 inside security. So you at least have plenty of space to explore without exiting the secure area.

  • Sydney to Toronto with stopover in LAX
    Jan 7, 2016
Hi , my sister is travelling from Sydney to Toronto with a 6 hour layover in LA. I want to know if she can come outside the airport in LA (or in a transition lounge) in LA to meet a friend, or would that not be allowed?

Once she arrives from Sydney and clears US Customs she will be outside the secure area and have to change terminals, which is also outside the secure area. You can meet her then

  • 7 hr layover?
    Jan 5, 2016
Hi. I'm travelling from Calgary (Air Canada), arriving around 2pm on a Wed, and leaving at 9pm on Air NZ. Do I have enough time to leave LAX and see a beach or something?

Yes, that is enough time. You could go just to the beach right to the west of LAX (if it's a clear day you can watch planes depart from the beach). That's called Dockweiler State Beach. You could also go a little further north to Santa Monica, which has restaurants and the Santa Monica Pier.

  • is 4 hours enough to leave and come back
    Jan 5, 2016
good morning we have 4 hour layover from miami and wondering if that is enough time drive to oc for lunch pickup not dine-in and come back? uber will probably will be too expensive so renting a car for a few hours is more economical. thank you in advance

No, 4 hours is not nearly enough time for that. It takes over an hour to get to Orange County, driving alone.

  • Tips on smooth connection
    Dec 18, 2015
Hello. Travelling with the family on an urgent trip to see a sick relative and connecting in LAX for SFO. Flight arrives from Sydney (AA72) at 6:50, Terminal B. Connecting flight (AA5947) departs Terminal 2 at 8:35. We have 4 year old twins in tow. Have done USA trips yearly for past 4 years but never with this tight connecting times. Any tips please!!

Your flight to SFO does not depart from Terminal 2. AA does not use Terminal 2. You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, follow signs for connecting passengers, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, exit the international terminal, walk to your right, the next building you come to is Terminal 4 where your flight will depart, go through security and to your departure gate, which will be in the American Eagle remote terminal (you will have to take a bus there from Terminal 4 after you go through security). You have enough time if everything goes smoothly. This is the first day that American has operated SYD-LAX, so it's a new route.

  • India to Vegas Through Frankfurt and LA
    Dec 17, 2015
Hi I am flying from India to Las Vegas with Lufthansa Airline, but have a stop journery(layover). From new delhi to Farkfurt with Lufthansa, From FrankFurt to Las Angeles with Lufthansa and then from LA to Vegas with United Airline. MY Via and passport needs to be stamped for duration at port of entry i nUS. What will be my port of entry LA or Vegas, as my destination is vegas but my first entry for layover on US will be Los Angeles. Let me know guys.

Your port of entry will be in Los Angeles. You will arrive in the International Terminal, Go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, follow signs for connecting passengers, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then exit the international terminal, and walk to your right (with the flow of traffic) for about half a km, the fourth building you come to will be Terminal 7 and say United on it - go inside, go through security and to your departure gate. In Las Vegas all you will have to do is claim your bag.

  • 12 hour layover
    Dec 9, 2015
Hello, a week from Monday, we (2 adults and 2 kids) are flying from MSP on United (through Qantas booking) with a 12 hour layover at LAX on the way to MEL (Australia). I say you reply on another post that sometimes a person can't get into TBIT until a few hours prior to their flight departure... do you think that will be an issue for us? We weren't planning on leaving the airport, but if we can't get into the terminal for so many hours, we may have to rethink that. Suggestions?

I should clarify, we arrive around 11 am and depart around 11pm. Thanks!

The earliest Qantas flight from LAX leaves at 10:15 PM so the check in counter probably doesn't open until 7-7:30. So yes, I would leave the airport. sitting in the food court for 7-8 hours would be fairly awful.

That does sound awful. Thanks for the quick response, that gives us time for a contingency plan.

  • 6 hours to go crazy!
    Dec 2, 2015
Hi i have a layover of 6 hours at LAX / TBIT not worth checking into a hotel so i'm after any suggestions for spare time at the airport apart from hanging out in the bar! Is there a Yoga room??.. Thanks heaps, Michele

LAX does not have a yoga room. Depending on what airline you're flying out of the TBIT you may be stuck outside security for some time as their check-in desk may not open until a few hours before the flight. All there is outside security is a big crowded food court with awful overpriced food. Inside security there's a ton of shops and art exhibits so it's easier to kill time there.

Thanks for your reply!. Is there tours of LA i can do from LAX? Does the airport have baggage lockers?

The airport does not have baggage lockers and I'm not aware of any tours that leave from LAX, and you honestly don't have time for one.
