I have a flight on Air New Zealand arriving at 2:10pm on Saturday Feb. 27. If I get an American Flight leaving at 4:20 pm, think I will make it? I can't book them through.

  • terminal 5 to terminal 2 LAX
    Dec 1, 2015
I am flying in to lax at Terminal 5 and at 12:10 pm, and have a connecting flight out of terminal 2 at 1 pm. can I make that? Do I have to go back thru security?

Will you have checked bags? Were your tickets purchased on one reservation or separate? I assume you're flying Delta into Terminal 5 - what airline are you flying out of Terminal 2? I need this info to answer your question. You will have to go through security.

i booked both trips separately. I fly in on Delta and out on Sun Country

With checked bags this is completely impossible. Without checked bags it's barely possible if you check in online for your Sun Country flight, your Delta flight is on-time, and you run to Terminal 2.

Flying in from Sydney on New Zealand Air in February at 2:10 pm (Tom Brady terminal). Fly out of Terminal 1 on Southwest at 4:10 pm. Will this work? Thanks!

It's possible, but you'll have to hope your flight from Sydney is on-time and the lines at immigration are short and then hurry to Terminal 1. I suggest walking to Terminal 1 rather than trying to take the shuttle.

  • YVR - LAX - HNL
    Dec 1, 2015
We're arriving at LAX on Air Canada Rouge from YVR and transferring to United for our LAX - HNL leg of the trip. We arrive at 11:35 and leave at 13:00. We will clear customs in YVR and the tickets were booked together. Will we have enough time and what terminals are we going to be going through?

You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 7. You can walk straight across the parking garages to get between the two terminals. You just have to go through security in Terminal 7. You should have enough time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Will we need to gather our checked luggage or will those be sent through automatically?

Yes, your bags will be transferred automatically.

  • Terminal 8 to Tom Bradley / Customs?
    Dec 1, 2015
We are arriving in LAX from Vancouver, BC on United landing at Terminal 8. Then need to get to Tom Bradley terminal to fly with Air Tahiti Nui to Tahiti. Separate reservations. Do we need to claim our bags & go through customs? And what's the best way to get to Tom Bradley terminal? Is signage good? Who can you ask for guidance?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. At LAX you will claim your bags from United and take them to the International Terminal to check with Air Tahiti Nui. You will make a left when you exit Terminal 7 (where the United baggage claim is) and then walk for about 10 minutes (against the flow of vehicle traffic). The fourth building you come to will be the International Terminal, it's fairly obvious. Last time I was there the Air Tahiti Nui check-in counters were in the back left of the check-in area of the International Terminal. You will go through security after you check-in.

  • Short connection

Flying from Tokyo to LAX with 1 hr 10 min connection to JFK, is that enough time to get through customs, immigration, etc.?

No, you need at least 90 minutes if all tickets are on the same reservation and 2.5 hours if you have two separate reservations. You need to contact your airline or travel agent and be rebooked.

Thank you for your help!! Delta shouldn't even offer this flight combination if flyers can't make it.

  • HNL to LAX to ABQ
    Nov 29, 2015
Arriving Terminal 7 at 2:57PM and need to catch SWA out of Terminal 1 departing at 3:40PM. Is that enough time? How should I get to Terminal 1?

Without checked baggage this would be barely possible if your flight from Honolulu is on-time and you run (straight across the parking garage) to T1. With checked baggage this is impossible.

  • Delta INT to Domestic in 100 min - sufficient?
    Nov 29, 2015
Hi I'm flying Delta international from SIN to LAX and then have to catch the Delta Domestic flight from LAX to SAN (San Diego) within 100 min (1 hr 40min). Is this sufficient or a 50-50 chance, as I understand that all Delta flights are at Terminal 5 - is that for all international AND domestic? Do I have to go thru' security again and re-check-in my bags before boarding the domestic flight? Thanks in advance

Yes, you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags and go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your flight into LAX is on-time.

  • Cathay to LAX then to Las Vegas
    Nov 29, 2015
Arriving at 9:40am then Southwest (Terminal 1) at 12:50 pm to Las Vegas. Do you think there is enough time (3hours)? Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Rebooked on tight LAX connection
    Nov 29, 2015
My flight was rebooked at the last minute. I'm connecting at LAX en route to Miami. My connection is an hour and half. So far no delays. I'm arriving at terminal 4 but the departing terminal for LAX to MIA hasn't been assigned yet. Any hope for me to make this connection or should I start mentally preparing to get rebooked? Thanks.

An AA flight from LAX to MIA will likely also depart from Terminal 4. There's a slight chance it could depart from Terminal 6, but even if it does, there is a tunnel and shuttle bus inside security connecting Terminal 4 to Terminal 6. You should have plenty of time if your first flight is domestic and still have enough time if your first flight is international.

  • LAX Connection American to Cathey in 1 hour?
    Nov 28, 2015
Landing LAX at 7:35AM in American and Connecting to HONG KONG in Cathey Pacific at 8:35AM. Traveling alone 65 years old women. Is this transition possible? What service Cathey pacific provides if American plane delayed? both flights on the same ticket.

Yes, it's possible. You just have to go from Terminal 4 to the International terminal and through security. If your AA flight is late Cathay will book you on their 11:25 AM or 10:35 PM flight to Hong Kong.

  • term 27 to international in 2 hours?
    Nov 27, 2015
On one purchase, arriving (I hope) United terminal 7 at 8:45 am. Next flight is Asiana at 11 am from international terminal. Assume check in at San Francisco includes United and Asiana boarding pass. Yes? Bags checked through so we don't have to get bags? Is there time to make this connection? Best way to get from 7 to international? Google maps shows lots of turns for walking? Thanks.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Yes, United should be able to issue both boarding passes and check bags through to Asiana. The fastest way from T7 to the International Terminal is just to walk. It's not difficult, you just exit T7, turn left, and walk for about 10 minutes and you come to the International terminal. You will have to go through security again when you get to the International Terminal.

  • 45 minutes connexion time enough?
    Nov 28, 2015
I am flying from Montreal to Los Angeles and will have 45 minutes between flights to Honolulu. Both flights are United. Can I make it in the time?

United doesn't fly from Montreal to Los Angeles, so if that flight is nonstop it will be operated by Air Canada. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs, but because it is operated by Air Canada you will arrive in Terminal 2 and have to go to Terminal 7 and through security for your flight to Honolulu. It's possible but very difficult to make this connection unless your flight from Montreal arrives early.

    Thank you!!!!

  • Air New Zealand to Southwest Terminal Connection Time
    Nov 27, 2015
I'm a US citizen arriving to LAX from Auckland at 10:45 am on Monday, March 7. My next flight is from LAX to STL via Southwest at 1:10 pm. Will I have enough time to clear customs, get to Terminal 1, and then check in at Southwest and clear security before the flight leaves?

That should be enough time as long as your flight from Auckland is on-time.

  • Connecting in La
    Nov 26, 2015
Hi ! I will arrive at 7.15 am from Auckland with Air New Zealand. Next flight is with Air Canada , Terminal 2. Layover 4.20 hours. Same reservation. Will I need to pick up my bags ? Will i need to clear custom ? Enough time ? Thank you.

Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, follow signs for connecting passengers, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then exit the international terminal and walk to your left (against the flow of vehicle traffic), the second building you come to will be Terminal 2 where you will go through security and to your departure gate. You will go through Canadian immigration and customs when you get to Canada. You have plenty of time.
