As this is going to be my1st in LAX - RDU with no check-in baggage, where shud i be heading,do i have to go thru securitycheck before my next boarding.

    What airline are you flying?

    Im flying with Delta Airlines

You talk about a "next boarding" are you flying into LAX from somewhere else on delta then flying to RDU? Where are you flying from?

im flying from Narita to LAX - LAX to Raliegh NC.The layover once i touched down LAX is only 1h10min .do i have enough time to make it ontime for my flight to NC?

No, that is not enough time. You need to change your booking to allow at least 90 minutes if your tickets were purchased together and 2.5 hours if you purchased two separate tickets.

why is that not enuff time? Is the traffic in the terminal im going thru gets busy? im travelling thru Delta 1736 to Raliegh

Upon arrival in LAX you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, go through security and go to your departure gate. 90 minutes is the recommended time for that connection.

I will be traveling from Denver to LAX on SWA and can land at 9:45 in June, have luggage at baggage claim and transfer to HA for 1:30 flight. Is this enough time, knowing that HA is usually iready to close doors at noted departure time

Yes, that should be enough time, especially considering that you just have to go from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

Unfortunately my layover is super short - flying in from Denver with United (Terminal 7 or 8 it seems) and I have to make it to the international terminal in about 40 minutes. I know I already have to make it through security again but do I have to recheck my bags? Insight would be appreciated if I should even attempt this.

Assuming you purchased all your tickets together, your bags should be transferred automatically.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I read that you have to go through security again when entering the international terminal. My flight lands all 11:35 PM. Anyone have any insight as to how busy it might be?

There are a number of flights to the South Pacific and Asia that leave around that time, but security lines are still reasonable 5-10 minutes.

I'l be arriving on Air NZ at 3pm,Mar 24. I have a West Jet (op American) flight to Edmonton from T4 at 17:05--Canadian Passport, no checked baggage. West Jet think this will work. Do you agree?

Since you have no checked bags I think it will be possible.

Thanks!! Here's hoping everyone's running on time

I am flying in to terminal 8 and connections is TOM BRADLEY terminal. I have an hour, no bags. Is shuttle best or walk/run?

It will be very difficult. If you can walk fast or run, do that.

Thanks for the response. My flight was 25 minutes late so I ran like hell and got a air new zealand rep to wiz me thru security. Last one on but made it. Never doin that again.

I arrive on Spirit at 2;43pm and have to connect to United International flight at 4:55pm to LHR. I will luggage with me. Will I make my connection?

Yes, that should barely be enough time.

We are flying from Sydney, Australia through LAX. On a separate ticket, we are flying to Chicago on Southwest in Terminal 1. Our flight from Australia arrives at 6:30am. We can get a flight to Chicago that leaves Terminal 1 Southwest at 9:10am. Will that be enough time go through customs/immigration, claim our luggage and check in with Southwest?

That would be barely enough time. Check in for your Southwest flight online before you leave Australia. You will still have to transfer your bags yourselves to Terminal 1.

Hi, we are flying from YYZ to ICN, connecting thru LAX. YYZ to LAX is AIr Canada and LAX to ICN is Asiana. We have checked in luggage but believe will clear custom at YYZ. Just wondering if a two-hour layover time will be enough at LAX?

2 Hours should be enough time. if you purchased your tickets together your bags will be transferred automatically. You just have to walk from T2 to the International Terminal and go through security.

Thank you! Do you know if we need to get new tix? Since we change airlines? We book the flights together.

Air Canada should be able to issue both boarding passes in Toronto. Although they may need to see your passport at the Asiana gate in the International Terminal.

Hi I'm flying airnz into TBIT at 12.30pm, and would like to fly Avianca to Guatemala City at 2.05pm from terminal 2. The tickets for the Avianca flight will be booked separately. Am I right in thinking this is far too tight? Many thanks, David

Yes, I think it would be very difficult.

Hi. So i'll be flying to LAX from MSP then flying from LAX to Ixtapa, Mexico. My layover is 1hr 20 minutes. Both my flights are Delta Airlines and all that I will have is a carry on. Can I make it if my flight is on time? Sincerely, Never flown internationally

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 5, on your way to Ixtapa. you should have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time.

    Thank You!

Hi, I'll be flying YVR to LAS with a connection in LAX (2h 12m) and on the return trip, same route, connection time 1h 50m All on Delta. Will I have to go through customs in LAX? Is this enough time? Thanks!

Oh, and all carry on. No checked bags! Thanks!

You will not go through Customs in LAX on either route. On your way to LAS you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. On your way back you will go through Canadian Immigration in Vancouver. You should have enough time

    Great! Thank you!

How do I get from Terminal 8, gate 88 to Air Canada Terminal 2 - only have 1 hour to connect. Security again?

You need to exit T8 and walk straight across the parking garages, Over there will be T2. You will have to go through security again. IF your first flight is on-time and you hurry you will have enough time.

  • Delayed Domestic Flight to International

Hi. Actually on the plane now. I booked my flight through my company and the time between flights was only 1 hr and 38 mins. Now the huge winter storm has caused a huge delay in my flight. I fly into terminal 6 (us airways) at 11:45 and departing the international terminal at 11:55. My guess is there is no possible way to make this flight. 1. Do you think they would hold the flight because of the massive storm across the south? 2. is there security i have to go through again? 3. how long does it take to get from terminal 6 to international at midnight?

Yes, you have to go through security. They might hold the flight if there are a lot of people coming from yours or other delayed flights. Running, you can get from T6 to the International Terminal in 3-4 minutes. Walking, maybe 6-8 minutes

Thank you for the post. It looks on the map that they are not connected. So I don't have to shuttle?

It would be much faster to walk/run. Go left once you exit Terminal 6.

Wish me luck! Thank you so much for responding so quickly.

  • LAX layover
    Feb 25, 2015

I am travelling from Sydney to Chicago with a layover in lax. I arrive into terminal B and the layover is just under 2 hours. I then depart for Chicago through terminal 7. Do I go through customs in lax or Chicago? And do I have to collect my luggage at all in LAX? I'm a bit nervous about whether 2 hours will be enough time.

You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. If you booked all your tickets on one reservation then follow the signs for connecting passengers and you can re-check your bags at the transfer desk. If you purchased two separate tickets you will have to RUN with your bags to Terminal 7 to check them with United in time.
