We are flying Air France from Papeete to LAX in August. We will have only two hours and 5 minutes to clear customs and make a connecting domestic flight on Southwest Airlines back to Denver. Is there anyway to get bags checked all the way through? How do we recheck bags on Southwest and will two hours be enough time? The flight is scheduled to land at 640pm. Any information would be greatly appreciated as we are not familiar with LAX.

NO! That is not enough time. Southwest does not have interline baggage agreements with any other airlines. You will have to take your bags with you to Terminal 1. Unless your Air France flight arrives very early it is very unlikely you will get to Terminal 1 before the baggage cutoff. Terminal 1 also typically has quite long security lines.

What is the quickest way to walk from terminal 5 to terminal B KLm

You exit Terminal 5 on the lower level, turn left, and walk. It takes about 5 minutes.

what is the quickest way to get from terminal 1 to terminal 4 and about how long will it take ?

There is a shuttle that runs on the lower level, but it's often faster to walk. 1 to 4 is about the longest connection possible at LAX. It will take 10-15 minutes to get between the two buildings.

  • Go outside and recheck in again?

Hi, My parents will arrival Lax international terminal from Hong Kong. They will need to connect a fly from LAX to Las Vegas thru American Airline. I believed it's in Terminal 4. After they clear the custom do they need to go outside (exit) to go to terminal 4 to recheck in again or if there is sign for all connecting flights after custom? So they do not need to go out?

There is a sign for all connecting flights after customs - it leads to where they can re-check their bags. However, after doing that they will have to briefly go outside for the short walk to Terminal 4 where they will go through security and to their departure gate.

  • Connecting Flight from Japan Airlines to American Airlines

Hi! I am flying into LAX via Japan Airlines with a connecting flight on American Airlines to Las Vegas. My layover is 1 hour 35 minutes. I do have one checked luggage. I know I have to go through immigration, customs and rechecked bag. Can you give me best advice to make this process as fast as possible? Also any info on terminals that I need to know would be greatly appreciated! And is it a bad idea to re check bag at connection counter? Or should I bring it to American Airline agent? I think that will take more time right? Thank you!

Actually a change this post I will be flying in via American Airlines to LA from Tokyo...not Japan Airlines. Will it then not be in Tom Bradley .. that way making it easier to get to recheck in bag and get to gate after immigration and customs? Thx!

Correct, an American Airlines flight will arrive in Terminal 4. You can re-check your bag at the connection counter if it is tagged through to LAS. You should have enough time.

Good to know! Quick clarification..is immigration & customs right in Terminal 4 as well? Do i go through immigration, get my bags, go through customs, rechecked it at connection counter in that order? Thanks for your help!

Yes, the AA flight from Tokyo arrives in Terminal 4. Yes, you have the order correct.

  • Connectdion between T7-T4

My flights were changed and now my layover time is less then I expected. Is there enough time to get from those two terminals in an hour and do I have to go through security again. Please advise ASAP

If both flights are domestic and you don't have any checked bags and you check in online, it's possible. You can actually now walk from T7 to T4 inside security by following signs to T6, then walking down T6 and taking a tunnel to T5 then T4.

  • From LHR to LAX to FAI

Arriving on May 8 at LAX (515pm) from LHR, then have a flight from LAX to FAI on Alaska Airlines, departing at 735pm. Is this enough time to get through customs and to terminal? Tickets bought separately, possibly checked one checked bag

That should barely be enough time. Since you are buying separate tickets you will have to bring your bag yourself to Terminal 6 to Re-check your bag.

Thank you for the quick response! Would it be better to get a later flight or do you think it is actually possible to make this one? the later flight involves an extra plane and a 4 hour layover in ANC so i'd like to avoid that if possible.

Yes, it's possible, but there's obviously some risk involved.

  • Transfer from Alaska to AA

I'm arriving on Alaska in Terminal 6 and need to get to my AA flight in Terminal 4. I heard there are tunnels connecting T5 and T6, and T4 and T5 so you wouldn't have to go outside and go through security again. Is this true?

    Yes, that is true.

i use cathay pacific and arrive at lax at 14.55pm and will continue using delta to dallas at 17.00 pm, is it enough time for me ? i am grup of 6 ( 4 adult and 2 kids ) we got 4 baggage from cathay

Did you purchase your tickets together or separately. If separately it may be difficult for you to get yourselves and your baggage to T5 before the bag cutoff.

  • 2 hours is enough for the connection from terminal B to terminal 5 ?

I will take the Virgin Australia (VA7) arrive LAX at 06:55 at Terminal B and then take Delta (DL6426) departing at 09:00 at Terminal 5, I have only 2 hours 5 minute time for the connection. This is my first trip to US. I worry about the connection time, is that enough´╝č

Brisbane - Los Angeles - San Francisco

Yes, if your tickets were purchased together that should be enough time.

Thank you very much for the reply. yes, purchased together, even it does, i need to pick up my check in luggage at terminal B and go through customs and re-check in Terminal 5, isn't it?

If your tickets are purchased together you can follow the sign for connecting passengers in the International Terminal and re-check your bags there, not having to carry them to T5.

  • Southwest to TBT

We are arriving at LAX via Southwest at 5:20 pm. WE have a flight at 7:45 pm, Turkish Airlines. Do we have enough time to wait for our luggage and check-in again? Also, how far is the wallk to TBT from Terminal 1?

It's about a 15 minute walk from T1 to the TBIT. YOu will have to hope your Southwest flight is on-time and hurry.

How do you get to T1 to TBIt? Fastest way?

Running is fastest. There's also a shuttle bus but at that time of day traffic will be a mess and walking is faster.

  • How much time do we need to comfortably connect?

My wife and I are arriving at LAX via Horizon Air from Sonoma County at 8:05 PM on a Wednesday. We need to board a Qantas flight to Sydney at 11:55 PM that night. We'll each have one bag to check onto Qantas. Is that plenty of time to comfortably make the connetion?

Yes, that should be plenty of time, even if you booked your two tickets separately and need to transfer your bags to the International terminal yourselves.

Hi. We have booked a flight with Virgin from Sydney to LA in November arriving at 6.30. We want to book a further flight the same day to Toronto with Air Canada. Is 3.5 hours between flight long enough to clear customs, get bags and check in to next flight?

Correction, the flight arrived at 8am

Yes, 3.5 hours is enough time to go through Immigration and customs and bring your bags to Terminal 2 to re-check them.

  • 1.5 hour Stopover LAX

Hi, I am travelling Montreal to Brisbane next week. I stop in JFK then LAX before Brisbane. I will not have to pass customs in LAX obviously, but I fly into Terminal 4 on American Airways, and leave from Terminal B with Qantas. I have 1.5 hours between flights in the evening ~ 11pm. I booked tickets as connecting flights together. Do you think 1.5 hours is enough time? I know delays happen, but if all goes to plan is it enough time to walk between terminals and pass security? Is there a way of knowing if I have to collect bags and recheck? Thank you!!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will not have to collect your bags in LAX. Assuming you purchased all your tickets together, you will not see your bags after you clear US Customs Preclearance in Montreal until you get to Brisbane.

Excellent, thank you! I appreciate the response!

  • Transfer from intl to domestic in 2 hrs?

Hi! I'm arriving from London Heathrow at the international terminal at 3.30pm and my connecting flight to Kahului leaves at 5.30 pm from terminal 4. Both are American airlines flights and they are on the same ticket. Is there enough time?

If your flight from London is operated by American Airlines it will likely also arrive in terminal 4. You should have enough time for your transfer.
