We're arriving on a Tues at 1915 via UA and catching ANZ to Auckland departing 2230. Am guessing we'll have to retrieve luggage and check in ANZ gate? Is there any way we can have our bags checked thru to destination? Or is it too late? Thanks.

  • Delta Connection at LAX from Sydney to Orlandp
    Jul 1, 2015
I am arriving at LAX on Delta Airlines from Sydney at Terminal 5 on August 5th at 8am, with a connecting flight to Orlando from the same Terminal at 9.40am. Does this give me enough time to clear Customs/Immigration etc, to catch my outgoing flight? My tickets were booked through a travel agent.

Yes, that should be enough time.

Arriving 7.10 from Melbourne on QF93. Need to book connecting flight to San Fransisco. Does the 10.15 give us enough time or better waiting for the 12.05? Thanks!

The 10:15 flight should be fine, even if you're buying two separate tickets.

  • 2 hours to collect bags, switch airlines and checkin to Terminal B
    Jun 27, 2015
I am arriving from AirCanada - Montreal and transferring to Air New Zealand flight for Auckland . I arrive at 7:40pm and my Auckland flight leaves at 9:45. I am worried I will not have enough time to transfer as I am not flying on a continuous ticket. Air New Zealand says I must check in within 90 mins international from departure time. I booked tickets through travel agent.

If both tickets are on the same reservation the Air Canada agent in Montreal should be able to see the LAX-AKL segment and check your bags through to Auckland. AC and NZ are Star Alliance partners so it should be possible to have your bags checked through to AKL.

Thanks ZAP , unfortunately they are not as they have two different booking reference. So I am still wondering if that is enough time?

If you do have to claim and re-check your bags in LAX it is possible if your flight is on-time, your bags come out quickly, and you hurry. You can get from T2 to the International Terminal in less than 10 minutes.

  • Transfer from Air Canada to American airlines in LAX
    Jun 27, 2015
My son and his family are arriving from Toronto on Air Canada at 4:36 pm and have to are scheduled on American Airlines to Hawaii at 6:25 pm . One hour fifty minutes to make connection in two different terminals. They will be pre cleared customs in Toronto but it still feels very tight connection to me ... whats your thoughts please

That should be plenty of time. It's about a 15 minute walk from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4 and they only have to be in Terminal 4 by 5:25. So that leaves them like 50 minutes to arrive, get their bags, and get to T4.

  • Enough time???
    Jun 26, 2015
Hi. Please help! Arrive into LAX Terminal 2 at 19:15 (Virgin Atlantic flight from LHR- originally due to arrive at 16:05 but changed by airline). Connecting Air New Zealand flight departs at 21:45 from Terminal B (is this Tom Bradley?) Will our bags be transferred 'automatically'? And, is 2.5 hours enough time to make this connection? We booked through an online travel agent (and all 4 flights show on my online manage booking) so does this mean they are 'one ticket'?

Yes, "Terminal B" is the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Yes, if all four tickets were purchased together your bags should be tagged through to new Zealand. However, at LAX you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check them at the transfer desk right after customs, then exit T2 and walk to the right to the International Terminal, get your Air New Zealand boarding passes if you don't already have them, then go through security and to your departure gate. 2.5 hours is possible for this connection.

Many thanks for your reply! I feel less stressed about it already!

  • Connection Issues
    Jun 25, 2015
My daughter is flying from ATL to Brisbane, AU, connecting in LAX. It seems as though she will end up having to check her carry on. Will she be able to do this with a 2.5 layover? Also, will she have to check the bag at terminal 3 and then depart from the international terminal?

Yes, if she is flying Virgin Australia and her bags are not tagged through to Brisbane, she will have to take her bags to Terminal 3, check them with Virgin Australia, then go to the International Terminal, go through security, and to her departure gate.

  • Fiji - SFO connection timing
    Jun 25, 2015
I am flying into LAX from Fiji and arriving at 1:25pm. My connection is on Virgin America to SFO at 3:30pm. Is that enough time to get through customs and immigration to terminal 3? Thanks!

That's barely possible. I recommend 3 hours for this type of connection to give some buffer, but 2 is possible.

  • 8/2 arr Phil Air TBIT 7:30PM dep Southwest T1 9:10PM - doable?
    Jun 24, 2015
Sunday 8/2 arriving Phil Air TBIT 7:30PM departing Southwest T1 9:10PM - Is this doable or a long shot? 1 hour, 40 minutes

I think that will be very difficult. I would get a hotel and change your Southwest flight to the next morning.

Actually I looked at the wrong day on the Southwest schedule, and the departing flight would be at 10:05PM. This would give us 2 hours, 35 minutes. Easy, doable, or a long shot?

And I forgot to mention we are 2 adults and 2 kids, age 4 and 7, so there won't be a lot of sprinting involved here. :)

Well, that will be doable, but it does depend on your Philippines flight arriving on-time.

  • Southwest arriving 10:45AM to departing Asiana 12:40 - enough time?
    Jun 22, 2015
We are arriving on Southwest (Term 1) at 10:45AM and departing on Asiana (Intl.) at 12:40 - is that enough time? 2 adults plus 2 small children and I bag each, probably too big for the kids to handle.

You'll have to hope your southwest flight is on-time, your bags come out quickly, and then run to the international terminal.

Yes, after reading some of the other posts here, we are looking at other options.

  • Connecting to International from Terminal 5
    Jun 26, 2015
My daughter is arriving from SEA at Terminal 5 at 11:25am and needs to get to International Terminal for 1:45pm flight to AMS. Flights are booked on same ticket. What is the fastest way to get from Terminal 5 to International Terminal? Will she need to go through TSA security check again?

The fastest way is just walking along the curbfront. She will make a left as she exits T5, it is a short walk to the International Terminal. Yes, she will have to go through security in the International Terminal.

Thanks for your reply. My daughter's flight arrived in LAX at 11:16, but she didn't get off the plane until 12:03 because they had to wait for a gate. She got off at Terminal 5 and walked to International Terminal. She got to the security line at 12:21, and to her gate at 12:53. She was texting me throughout so that's how I know the exact times. Glad she made her connection, because she absolutely had to be on that flight. Next time I would leave a little more time between connections to be safe.

  • Salt Lake to Sydney via LAX
    Jun 21, 2015
We are flying from SLC to SYD via LAX. We arrive terminal 5 at LAX from SLC at 9:38 PM, and then depart LAX terminal 5 for SYD at 10:14 PM. This seems really tight. Will this be enough time? This is one booking. Our bags will presumably be checked through. It sounds like we're leaving from the same terminal at LAX that we're arriving to, but will we have to go through international security? Worried about making this connection.

There is no "international security". You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate and board the plane. It obviously doesn't leave any time to spare if the flight from SLC is delayed, but it's doable.

  • Qantas arriving LAX transfer to Southwest to LAS
    Jun 21, 2015
We are arriving LAX on Qantas at 6.30am and plan to depart on Southwest at 10.40am to LAS. Is ther sufficient time for us to complete arrival procedures and check in to the Southwest flight with checked baggage?

We will be arriving on an international flight from Australia

Yes, that should be enough time. After clearing customs in the international terminal, follow signs for passengers ending their journey in LAX, not connecting passengers, walk along the roadway to your left (against vehicle traffic) until you get to Terminal 1.

Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply

  • Any company that accompanies pax to next flight
    Jun 19, 2015
Son aged 15 is travelling from MEL Australia to LAX on Qantas, then on to Montreal on Air Canada. Is there any company that would provide an escort thro US immigration to bag pick up toCustoms and all the way to new boarding gate? Also how long best to allow between flights?

Allow at least 3 hours between flights. No, there is no such service.

  • Air Tahiti Nui to Aeromexico
    Jun 19, 2015
Hello I arrive at 11.15 into the International terminal (with Air Tahiti) and have a flight with Aeromexico from Terminal 2 at 13.30. These are on separate tickets and I'll have to check in bags. The Aeromexico flight was at 1415 when I bought tickets but they have moved it forward. I have asked Aeromexico several times If I will have enough time and if not to change me to a later flight but they aren't replying! Any advice very gratefully received. Thanks

2 hrs 15 minutes is possible if everything goes perfectly. Be sure to follow the signs to the left once you exit customs in the internetional terminal, not the signs for connecting passengers. Then exit the terminal, and go left (against the flow of vehicle traffic) until you get to Terminal 2.
