  • Terminal 5 to Terminal 3 1/12 hour lay over
    Aug 3, 2015
Hello, I have a family member traveling through LAX. They arrive at Terminal 5 and have to transfer to Terminal 3. Is it best to walk rather than try the shuttle? The flight arrives around 10PM and leaves 1 1/2 hours later. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Virgin Australia to Southwest
    Aug 4, 2015
Hi. We will be arriving from Australia at 6.30am in November. I am needing to purchase flights to SFO. I would like to get the 9:05am Southwest flight, but will this give me enough time to get from one gate to the other. We will need to check baggage. Thanks.

I'm thinking you have enough time. It looks at though you have 2 hours 35 mins. I'd say you are golden. For me, though I only have 1hr 45 mins, and still debating on whether that should be enough...

  • Transfer from Terminal 5 to Tom Brad International
    Aug 2, 2015
Will be coming in on Delta Terminal 5 & leave Qantas to Sydney from Tom Brad International Terminal. Can we walk to the International Terminal with 3 bags or is there a shuttle? We have a few hours so we will have lots of time but we are seniors

  • Connecting flight
    Aug 2, 2015
I am flying from Australia to LAX and then onto San Diego. I have a 5 hour layover before boarding onto San Diego. Will I have to check my bags in again and go through security? If so, is it easy to find and are there people around to help direct you?

  • Connections time

Flying Fiji Air arriving11.25am. Connecting flight is Delta to Mexico City. Is this enough time?

  • Connecting to KOA, arriving with an international flight
    Jul 31, 2015
I'll arrive on Aug. 1st at 3.55PM with US109 from London. Arriving at terminal 4. I need to depart from same terminal (4) to Kona with US247 at 5.00PM. Will I make it? Even if is the same terminal, should I go to custom control, take my luggage and then drop luggage and go through security again? Luggage is checked till final destination. Or can I go directly to other gate without passing through custom? Thanks

First be aware that both flights will be operated by American Airlines (AA). Yes, at LAX you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, drop your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your gate. This is a very difficult connection as the minimum time for this type of connection is 90 minutes and you only have 65. Since you are on the last AA flight to Kona that afternoon, if you miss your connection you will either be booked on the 6:45 PM flight to Honolulu or on the flight to Kona the next morning.

  • Sydney to SEA via LAX
    Jul 31, 2015
We are booked through Delta from Sydney,AU to SEA. we arrive on Delta 16 at 7:30 am and connect with Delta 2027 at 8:45 am same terminal with checked baggage. Will we have enough time to clear customs, check baggage and security to make connection. Not sure why Delta booked us this way.

It's possible but shorter than ideal. The good news is that your flight will likely be the only flight at Terminal 5 Immigration at that time, which is what makes this connection somewhat possible. If you miss it don't fret too much as Delta has several more flights to Seattle that you can be rebooked on.

  • connecting flight
    Jul 29, 2015
we are arriving LAX from KOA at 5:17am on United. Connecting flight to EWR on United- departs LAX at 6:00am. This is 43 min layover. Can we make this? any problems? there are 2 adults, 3 teenagers-luggage is checked

As long as the first flight is on-time that should be enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate and all United gates at LAX are connected inside security.

  • Time Needed between TBIT and Terminal 7 on Separate Reservation
    Jul 30, 2015
How much time is needed to get from LAX international terminal to Terminal 6 0r 7 (United) on separate reservation with 1 bag that will need to go through customs and then be checked onto a domestic flight. I'm considering booking separate reservations for domestic leg round trip (Denver/LAX) and then book Singapore Airlines international leg round trip (LAX/NRT) as it will represent $2,000 savings vs. booking a connecting flight round trip Denver/Tokyo on same flights (believe it or not). Return is the concern as customs/immigration is involved. Arrive on Singapore Airlines in TBIT at 11:50AM and then United flight to Denver at 3:50pm on a Sunday . Is this enough time? Also, Do I leave the airport terminal with bag after customs, get to Terminal 6/7 and then check in "new" as domestic departure on the domestic reservation? I'm not as concerned about outbound Denver/LAX leg as arrival to LAX would be 9:30AM United Airlines on a Friday with Singapore Air flight at 2:30pm. Assume here I simply pick up bag at United domestic baggage claim and make my way to TBIT Singapore Air and check in under the LAX/NRT ticket (with 5 hours to do this)? Thanks for any insight

I would want 3 hours both ways, but it's more important on your way back from Tokyo than on your way there. Yes, upon arrival in LAX from Singapore you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then follow signs for passengers ending their trip at LAX, then exit the international terminal, walk to T7 and re-check your bags at the check-in counter with United.

Thank you ZAP! Appreciate the feedback. I don't usually book separate reservations for different legs involving overseas travel as there is alot at risk (late flights, missed flights/bags, etc), so time needed and how to do it at LAX is very helpful to know/understand.

  • Terminal 2 to terminal 5 connection
    Jul 29, 2015
I have 1.5 hours to get from terminal 2 to terminal 5? Can I walk and will I make it?

It's possible to make it between those terminals in that time, but it will difficult if you have baggage to transfer. Where are you coming from and going to and what airlines are you flying?

Coming from Westjet and going to Delta. Will only have carry on.

    Jul 28, 2015
Concerned about enough connection time. Arrival in PHL at 9:05 pm, terminal 6. Depart for MEL 10:50 pm, TBIT. I only have a carry-on and can walk/run. Do I need to go through security again? Will I make it? Unfortunately, I was naive and booked under separate tickets when the AA website was throwing errors. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you will have to go through security in the International Terminal and may have to stop at the Qantas check-in counter to get your boarding pass (you may be able to check-in online if you have traveled internationally on Qantas before). It is possible, but depends on everything going smoothly.

Flight arriving to LAX @ 8pm with Virgin America. then depart for Sydney form the same terminal at 10.2pm.. s thisrealistic considering international checkin/ baggage etc. THere is a flight i could take that would get me to LAX at 3.. should I just take that?

Virgin Australia flights actually depart from the International Terminal even though their check-in counter is in Terminal 3. Are you purchasing your tickets on the same reservation or separate? If the same reservation then the flight that arrives at 8 PM should be fine. Your bags will be checked through to Sydney and all you will have to do in LAX is walk to the International Terminal and go through security.

No, actually I will have to collect a bag from storage, then check it in.

    Where is it in storage?

Actually it is with lax luggage storage.. they keep it off premises I believe, so if anything went wrong that could cause serious flight missing issues.. i might just book the earlier flight and deal with the long layover rather than the missed flight! THanks so much for your help/

  • SW connecting to International Terminal
    Jul 28, 2015
How much time is needed to connect from a southwest flight from Phoenix to another flight in the International Terminal ? There is a flight that lands at 10:30pm, and the Air New Zealand flight leaves at about 12pm. Is that enough time?

Do you mean 12 midnight? (that's 12 AM). No, that wouldn't be enough time. If you want to be on a midnight flight you need to arrive at LAX by 9:30 at the latest. You will have to transfer your bags yourself from T1 to the International Terminal.

Thanks. Yes, sorry I do mean 12 am, but I won't be checking any bags - in this case, would an hour and a half be enough time at the hour in the night? (arriving Southwest Terminal 10:30pm, leaving international terminal 12am)

Yes, but it would be barely enough time and depend on your Southwest flight being on-time.

  • Transfer Times TBIT/T8
    Jul 27, 2015
Hi, I will arrive on from MUC on LH at 3:15 PM and have a connection to SAN with UA at 5:05. Will I make it? Are there express lanes for customs/immigration?

There is no express lane for connecting passengers. You have enough time if your flight from MUC arrives on-time. I suggest running/speed walking to T7 rather than taking the shuttle bus. At that time of day the shuttle bus will just be stuck in traffic. You will be able to re-check your bags at the re-check desk in the International Terminal right after clearing customs.

  • Terminal 2 to terminal 4
    Jul 27, 2015
Arriving at 3:49pm on Aeromexico (Terminal 2) and scheduled to depart out of Terminal 4 on American at 5:35pm. How close will I be cutting this knowing that we have to navigate Immigration/Customs, re-checking baggage, and going back thru security?

This is very very difficult, bordering on impossible. It would be possible without checked bags if you ran to T4 after clearing customs and had already checked in online for your AA flight.

Thanks, I figured it would be a stretch. I plan on getting the TSA pre screen approval. Would this save me much time and make it possible to connect?

    It helps a little bit.
