Is it possible to claim baggage from terminal 7 and make it to Terminal B in 25 minutes? If so, what's the quickest way?

    No, that is not possible.

    How long does it take?

  • How far from T2 to T7?

One of our flight options is a connection through LAX. The first leg is on Air Canada landing at Terminal 2 and departing on United in Terminal 8 (all on one ticket). The layover time is 1:23. Two members of our group are in their 70's. Is 1:23 enough time to transfer between the terminals by shuttle? How far is the walk from T2 to T7 and is there enough time to walk at a leisurely pace? Thank you.

Yes, that is enough time. If you walk across the parking garages it takes 15-20 minutes at a leisurely pace, about the same as the shuttle.

  • Qantas connections

I'm looking at buying flights with Qantas JFK - LAX - MEL. The layover in LAX is only 1hr 10 minutes!! This is the only connection available with a well priced fare. It is myself and 3 children who will be 12, 10 and 8. Will it be ok? Surprised they would offer the flights together if they thought it was going to be a problem but am concerned that if the initial flight is at all delayed we are not going to make the connection. Any advice? Tried calling Qantas and after 35mins on hold I gave up!

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Ok thanks - so they will be in the same terminal? And no passport control or baggage collection?

If the JFK-LAX flight is the one operated by Qantas that is correct, you just have to walk from one gate to the other, which shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

  • 2 hrs 5 min enough time?

Flying on Delta in first/biz from Tokyo HND to SFO on one ticket. No checked bags. Is 2 hrs 5 min enough layover time at LAX?

Yes, that is enough time if the flight from Tokyo arrives on-time.

  • Getting From Terminal 7 to B...
    Jan 22, 2017

We wil be arriving on a United flight in Terminal 7 and will have to claim our bags (due to separately booked flights) and then proceed to Terminal B. We probably prefer to walk instead of using the shuttle. My question is are we going to have to go outside to proceed to the international terminal or is there a route so that we can remain inside? Then when we return, we understand we will arrive at terminal B, clear immigration and customs. Since our next flight is booked separately, we expect we will have to drag our luggage to Terminal 7. Would that trip be better walked or take the shuttle bus?

Yes, walk. You have to walk outside along the curbfront. I would walk both ways.

  • Switching airlines for international flight

Long story short, United changed my schedule which made my 3hr layover turn into only 2hrs. I'm arriving in LAX on an American Airlines flight at 3:15PM. I'm switching to a United flight to LHR and will have to make it to the international terminal. I'll also have to collect my baggage and re-check it with United. The flight leaves at 5:00PM. Will that be enough time to deplane, pick up my bags, re-check them, and make it to my gate for United? The airline did add a note for the gate agent to hold my seat because I could be late.

No United flights depart from the International Terminal. Your flight to London will depart from Terminal 7. You have just enough time if the American flight is on-time. I'd be more worried about getting your bag re-checked before the cutoff than making it to your flight on-time.

  • LHR >LAX then connect to mammoth

We're flying to LAX from London on VS007 which arrives at TBIT at 1350. We have a separately ticketed flight to Mammoth from T6 at 1708. Will we have enough time to make the connection? We have skis and bulky luggage!

Yes, that should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Hi we are arriving from sydney arriving at 0630 and then have to catch a westjet flight to calgary at 0845 will we have enough time going through immigration and customs. Also we arrive at terminal b and then have to go to terminal 2 do we drop off our baggage or do we have to take it to westjet and book it in again.and do we go through customs etc again and how do we get to terminal 2

If it's two separate reservations then you will have to take your bags with you to Terminal 2 to re-check with Westjet. If it's all one reservation then you can re-check your bags at the re-check desk in the International Terminal. You will have to go through security again in Terminal 2, but there is no US customs when leaving the US. You should have enough time if everything goes smoothly. The best way to get from the International Terminal to Terminal 2 is to walk.

thanks for your help just one more question should we use the automated passport control would it be faster as we will have a waiver visa

You are only eligible to use the APC machines if you have entered the US with ESTA previously. if you have, yes, by all means use the APC.

  • From Terminal 2 to 5

Seven of us arrive at 10:50 pm on an international flight at Terminal 2 and depart at 12:05 am (75 minutes later) from Terminal 5. Both flights are with Delta, with the first leg operated by WestJet. I understand we have to go through Security again at Terminal 5. We only have carry-on luggage. Will this be enough time/

Yes, that is enough time if the Westjet flight is on-time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Canada.

    Thank you!

  • Air New Zealand arrival time
    Jan 19, 2017

We're flying on Air NZ from AKL, then must catch a cross country flight to DC. The scheduled arrival from AKL is 12:35 pm. I have a choice to book a connecting flight departing around 2:20 pm, or having to wait until 10:30 pm, which means a significant amount of time to kill in LAX. If the AKL flight does indeed land at 12:35 then I don't think that's enough time to clear customs, and make the 2:20 flight. However, I am seeing some posts that the AKL flight actually lands much earlier. Anyone else have experience on that flight?

What airline are you flying to DC? Is it two separate reservations or a single reservation?

I have not yet made the rez, but most likely will be American. So there will be separate tickets involved.

United has more options from LAX to IAD and you can earn Air New Zealand miles flying them.

Thank you. I've compared schedules from all the major airlines (including SWA) and AA's is best for our situation. Worst case scenario is I get to spend 10 hours exploring LAX, and fly the red-eye non-stop. :~) So I presume having only two hours to get through immigration/customs is really not sufficient, right? Does having Global Entry approval help?

Global Entry does help and may make 2 hours feasible, but you'd still have little time to spare.

Thank you so much for your help. I am glad I found this web site!

  • enough time to make international flight?

American Airlines flight arrives 1pm, terminal 4. Air Tahiti flight takes off 4 pm, Tom Bradley terminal. Not same ticket. I have read you must check in 60 min or more before takeoff. Do we have time to the ticket counter and go through security after getting our luggage from American baggage claim? Also, will American check my baggage through to the Air Tahiti flight?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Assuming the American flight is on-time you should have your bags by 1:45 and be at the Air Tahiti Nui check-in desk by 2. American will not check your bags through to Air Tahiti Nui because it's two separate reservations.

I have a connecting flight in LAX. I will arrive from Maui HI, layover 1h10 in LAX, and then fly to Montreal Canada. I will arrive at Terminal 7 and have to go to Terminal 2. My reservation is made with Air Canada (first flight is operated by United Airlines and second flight by Air Canada) All on the same reservation.. Do I have to pick my registered bagage or it will be automatically tranferred?

And what is the best route? Thanks

Forgot to ask if we will have enough time with a 1:10 layover

You do not have to do anything with your bags. Just walk straight across the parking garages from T7 to T2 and go through security. You should have enough time if the flight from Maui is on-time.

Our flight was changed and I have just under 2 hours to get from terminal 7 to Fiji air. I understand I have to get baggage etc. Will this be enough time and what is the best process to this, shuttle or tunnels?

You can't bring your checked baggage through the tunnels, so the best way to go is to run along the curbfront.
