  • Baggage Carts Allowed Between Terminals?
    Apr 25, 2015

I will be traveling with several suitcases, arriving the American Airlines terminal and needing to take the bags to Virgin Atlantic's terminal for an evening flight. Will I be allowed to take the Smarte Cart between terminals?

Hi, I am a UK citizen flying to USA for the first time. My flight is from London Heathrow to LAX with a stop over of 1.5 hours before boarding a connecting flight to Seattle. All ticket purchased together with Delta airlines. I understand that I land at terminal B and have to make my way to terminal 5. Would it be better to take carry on luggage instead of checked baggage. Do I have to collect checked baggage and queue through passport control again. Grateful for any advice. thank you

If you check a bag, after passport control you will claim it, then you will go through a control point where you hand a slip with your info and whether you have anything to declare to an agent. Then you will go to an area where you can re-check your bag in the International Terminal (there are big signs pointing towards it). If you don't have checked bags, you can proceed straight from passport control to handing in the slip to exiting the terminal and walking to T5 and go through security. You barely have enough time for your connection.

  • Terminal 1 to TBIT

Hi All - I arrive at Terminal 1 with Southwest on Friday at 4 pm and I have a separate flight at TBIT at 7 pm with Turkish airline. Do I have enough time to get my luggage and check back in ? also, is shuttle or walking the faster around that time?

That should be enough time if your Southwest flight is on-time. It will be fastest to walk.

    Thank you.

  • LAX change flights UA1229 to AC796 4/21

I'm connecting from UA1229 terminal 7 to AC796 terminal 2 at LAX. What are the directions to walk this route and will the baggage be passed through to Air Canada or will I have to collect baggage and go through security at LAX? We will have over 6 hour layover at LAX.

If tickets were purchased together bags will be checked through to AC. The best route from T7 to T2 is to walk straight across the parking garages in the middle of the airport to the other side. You have plenty of time. You will have to go through security in T2.

  • 2 hrs 15 connection - TBIT to United domestic. Enough Time?
    Apr 17, 2015

United Airlines changed time of my domestic flight (LAX-O'Hare) from 1600 to 1445. I arrive into LAX on Air New Zealand from Auckland at 1230. Is 2 hrs 15 long enough to clear customs, walk to United domestic terminal, recheck bags and clear security to board? My dilemma is the later flight is at 1800. Damn them for changing the flight from 1600! Thanks in advance.

That should still be enough time. If purchased together your bags will be tagged through to Chicago and you will be able to re-check them at the transfer desk right after clearing Customs.

  • Arriving Delta departing UAL

How easy or difficult is it to get from Terminal 5 to Terminal 7 in under 30 minutes? No checked bags.

Check in for your United flight online, by the time you arrive in LAX it will be past the check-in cutoff. Hope that the Delta flight is on-time and RUN. You can avoid having to go through security by taking the tunnel from T5 to T6, then going to the base of T6 and walking to T7 or T8 where your United flight will depart. If you haven't booked this yet, I wouldn't advise trying it, but it is possible if everything goes perfectly.

  • Connection from SYD (UA) to BOG (AV)
    Apr 16, 2015
    1
I arrive from SYD at 6:30 AM flight to connect to AV at 8:45 to Bogota .. will 2:25 connecting time be sufficient ?

That should be enough time but it doesn't leave much time if your first flight is delayed. You will likely arrive in the International Terminal (United flights from Australia have been arriving there recently), go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through Customs, then if you purchased your tickets together and your bags are tagged through to BOG, follow the signs for connecting passengers and re-check your bags at the transfer desk, otherwise go to the left out of the terminal and take your bags with you to Terminal 2 where you will have to re-check your bags with Avianca at the check in counter.

  • Terminal 3 to Terminal

I arrive on a Delta flight at 7:00pm from ATL. Can I catch a Virgin America flight that leaves at 8:10pm? No checked baggage. One carry on. I see that the terminals are opposing, so I have to go thru security again. How long is the walk and is it outdoors?

Yes, the walk is outdoors. It's barely possible if your first flight is on-time. You check in online for your Virgin America flight, and you run.

Thx so much, this sounds too tight. I could switch my connecting flt on Virgin Amer. to United departing at 8:30pm. That gives me an extra 20min. And I read that one can go from Terminal 5 (Delta) to Terminal 7 or 8 via tunnels without exiting security. Does this sound right?

Yes, that is correct and much more reasonable.

  • Delta NO to LAX to SYD
    Apr 15, 2015

Hello, I had a Delta flight from New Orleans which arrived at LAX at 5pm. This was cancelled, and I was offered a flight that arrives LAX (Terminal 5) at 9:00pm to get my 10:40pm United flight ( Terminal 7 ) to SYD. I attempted to change this flight, but was ensured 1.5hrs was enough time to catch this flight. The airline has once again changed my flight which will now arrive LAX (Terminal 5) at 9:20pm. I advised the change wasn't suitable for me (not enough time to get my connecting international flight), but they are not offering a change free of charge or refund. Despite all this, I thought it might be worth asking if catching this connecting flight might still be possible? To summerise its: Delta flight arriving LAX Terminal 5 9:20pm United flight to SYD from Terminal 7 at 10:40pm Please advise, Thanks!

They are required to offer you a refund because of the involuntary schedule change. However, if you don't have checked baggage or if you purchased your tickets on a single reservation and your bags are tagged through to SYD, it is possible to make that connection as it is now possible to walk from T5 to T7 inside security using the underground walkway between T5 and T6.

Hi ZAP, I'll attempt to get the refund or flight changed, but if not I'll take try for your recommendation. Thanks for the info

  • how to get from terminal one to other terminals
    Apr 15, 2015
    1
Hello, we have a long delay between when our flight arrives on Southwest and I believe it will come into terminal one. we have about 4 hours before our shuttle to the cruise terminal. is there anyway to walk from terminal one to other terminals airside? if not, if there anywhere that we could store our luggage while we go back thru security into another terminal to be able to access the priority lounges? we are traveling with 3 children

Terminal 1 is not connected to any other terminal airside and you will not be allowed to enter any other terminal through security as you will not have a boarding pass departing LAX that day. LAX also does not have baggage storage.

  • 40 min layover in LAX connecting to LHR
    Apr 15, 2015

Hi! We got tickets for this summer flying Delta from SFO to LAX then to LHR. Flt to London leaves at 9pm. There's only a 40 minute stopover for connection. They issued two tix for each 4 of us. We are travelling with our kids. Is that enough time to connect and transfer baggage in LAX? Do they automatically transfer us to the next flt available in case we miss the flt. How is this possible? Thanks!

Also, do we need to clear security again before connecting to the gate to LHR?

You will not have to go through security, just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. If you miss your connection they will rebook you on the next flight, but that probably wouldn't be until the next day.

Thanks Zap. There's a Virgin flt that leaves at 10:20pm. Can they put us on that flt if we miss the flt at 9pm?

Yes, probably, but not if you're too late, as you'd have to run across the airport and go though security as Virgin Atlantic leaves from Terminal 2. So you would have to barely miss your 9 PM flight in order to have enough time to make the 10:20 Virgin Atlantic flight.

Thanks for this forum. Very helpful. Are there high fees for changing flts for same day?

If you arrive at SFO early, you can usually stand by for an earlier flight to LAX for a small fee ($50 I think). If you do not get on the earlier flight you are not charged. Depending on your fare class you may even be able to change to an earlier flight confirmed for $50 within 24 hours of your flight. • Transfer to Hawaii
    Apr 14, 2015

I am coming in united flight 6495 and have to transfer to united 1224. This is on Dec 23. I know in the past we have had to change terminals for our Hawaii flights. Is 1 hour and 10 minutes enough time to do this? Is their a faster way than going through security again?

All United gates at LAX are connected inside security. You do not have to go through security.

  • Frontier to United
    Apr 14, 2015

What will be the easiest way to get from Frontier terminals to the United check-in? We have 4 hours in between flights, so I don't believe time will be an issue. Just looking for the easiest way to get this accomplished.

What airport are you talking about?

    test

Frontier uses Terminal 3. The fastest way is to simply walk around, with the flow of traffic, past the International Terminal, then Terminals 4, 5, and 6 and finally to the United check-in in Terminal 7. There is also a shuttle bus on the lower level, but walking is usually faster.

  • Fiji - LAX - SFO

Travelling from Fiji, arrive at LAX at 1:15pm. Planning to book on a separete ticket to SFO via Southwest. will i have enough time to transfer to the 2:50pm flight at terminal 1. Also how far is it to walk from TBIT to terminal 1?

No, you do not have enough time for the 2:50 flight. You will have to transfer your bags yourself and it's about a 15 minute walk to T1. Lines in T1 at LAX tend to be pretty bad too.

  • From TB to united
    Apr 14, 2015

Hi we arrive from Norway LAX (TB)?collect our bags and continue our trip with United to LAS could you guide us the way?? Checking bags tips etc Thanks in advance...

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then follow the signs for passengers ending their trip in LA (to the left). Exit the International Terminal and walk to your right, with the flow of traffic to Terminal 7 where you can re-check your bag with United. You will have to pay a checked bag fee. You will then go through security and to your departure gate which will be in Terminal 7 or 8 (they share a security checkpoint). You need at least 2.5 hours for this transfer.

    Thanks for your reply!
