  • Baggage pick up

I'm going to fly to Japan(NRT) from Las Vegas, transit at Los Angels. Do I need to pick up my check-in baggage at Los Angels Airport?

Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You may also have to change terminals. If you post what airlines you are flying I can help you with the terminals.

I am arriving on an Air Canada flight from Vancouver and connecting to a LAN flight to Lima at LAX. AC tell me as its one ticket and my hold bag is checked through I don't need to pick it up at LAX and check it in again. Is this right?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver, so yes, if everything is on the same reservation your bags will be transferred automatically to LAN at LAX.

Great - thanks. So can I just go straight from terminal 2 to the Tom Bradley terminal without having to go through customs again? I have a 2 hour turnaround.

Correct. You just have to go through security in the International Terminal.

I arrive from Tokyo on JAL 62 at 1120hrs (Terminal B) and depart for Salt Lake City at 1525hrs (Terminal 6) on Compass. This is a single reservation booked under JAL. Will I have sufficient time to go through Immigration & Customs to catch my flight to SLC?

Yes, that is enough time. Note that your flight to SLC is marketed as American Eagle (you won't find a "Compass" sign anywhere) and that it will depart from the American Eagle Remote Terminal, which is accessible by a shuttle bus from Terminal 6.

Have a Southwest flight arriving at 5:45pm with Fiji Airways connection at 9:30pm. Ordinarily this would seem to be plenty of time but the flight is taking place the day after Thanksgiving. I know, historically, the day before that holiday is amongst the worst but am unsure of the day after. Given the variability of holiday travel would it be recommended to get an earlier flight into LAX?

The day after (the Friday) is not a busy travel day. That is enough time.

I'm planning to fly into LAX from Sydney with Qantas, due in at 6.15am, then depart on Southwest to Las Vegas at 8.55am. Is this enough time?

That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly. You will have to hurry with your bags all the way across the airport to Terminal 1 to get them checked in before the cutoff.

I'm flying into LAX by Delta arriving at T5. My bro is flying in by United to T8. What would be the best meeting point? I have no luggage but he does. Thanks in advance.

I suggest the lower level curbfront near Terminal 7 where the United baggage claim is.

Hi arrive on CX flight from Hong Kong at 22:10 and have a AA connecting at 00:15 to Houston. Is this enough time to clear and make the flight?

With the late evening arrival that should be enough time.

I will be arriving from Fort Lauderdale on Virgin America to LAX at terminal 3. I have 2hrs. 5mins. to get to TBIT EVA airlines for my flight to Cebu Philippines. Is that enough time? It is all on one reservation with my bags being checked all the way through to Cebu.

    That should be enough time.

    Thank you

  • Southwest to Air Tahiti Nui help

Hi! We arrive at 1:15pm on SouthWest and connect to Air Tahiti Nui for a 3:30pm flight. We have carry on bags only. Is this enough time? What Terminals are the two airlines in? Thank you!

You arrive in Terminal 1 and depart from the International Terminal. If your Southwest flight is on-time you have just enough time. You need to get to the Air Tahiti Nui desk in the International Terminal by 2 PM. You will need to run unless your Southwest flight arrives early.

Curious why we have to be at the Air Tahiti desk by 2pm? We thought check-in closed one hour before the flight. Thanks for your help! Very much appreciated to make our vacation smoother.

One staff works both the check-in counter and the departure gate, sometimes they leave a bit early, I believe they want you at the check in desk 90 minutes before the flight.

Starting in FLL to LAX on JetBLue then onto MNL on Philippine Air. CAn I check my bags thru to MNL or do I need to claim and recheck?

If you purchased two separate reservations you will have to claim your bags in LAX Terminal 3 and re-check them next door in the TBIT with Philippine Airlines.

  • TBIT - T4 Connector

Is TBIT to T4 connector is now available from Int'l flight to AA with checked baggages? Tks

It's not really useful for that purpose. Once you arrive in the TBIT you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags at the re-check desk. At that point you will be outside security. The connector runs inside security. It's easiest to walk to T4 and go through security there.

Tks a lot for your help.

  • short connection SFO-LAX-HNL

Hi - My travel agent has booked a connection from San Francisco to Honolulu through LAX with AA all the way - the inbound arrives at 10.42 am and the outbound to HNL is 10.35. American have confirmed this is a valid connection and will be fine to connect, but I am still unsure. Is anyone able to comment if you've done this connection before, whether reasonable etc? Bags would be checked through, but it looks as if the inbound is on American Eagle - does this add in a terminal change too? Would we need to come out of security and back in? Sorry for all the questions... Heard too many US airport horror stories!

So your departure departs before your arrival arrives? Clearly you've mistyped something. You will not have to go through security in LAX.

Duh... That should be a departure at 11.35!

I am flying LAS (Las Vegas) to Honolulu through LAX. I am arriving by Southwest at T1 at 7AM and departing through T6 by Alaskan Airlines at 8:25 AM. Do I have to clear TSA security in LAX? Do I have to recheck my bags? Is this enough time overall?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags, carry them to Terminal 6, re-check them with Alaska Airlines, and go through Security. You do not have enough time. I would recommend changing your Southwest ticket to fly into LAX the night before.

I am flying Hawaiian Air from Honolulu to LAX, and then Delta/Air France from LAX to Paris. I have 2 hours between flights. Does anyone know if that's enough time, and do I need to go back through security at LAX?

Yes, you will have to go through security again in LAX. Also if your tickets are on two separate reservations you will need to claim your bags from Hawaiian and re-check them with Air France.

Do I need to go through security to walk from T1 to T2 ?

Yes, you do. T1 and T2 aren't connected to any other terminals inside security.
