I have 1:20 between flights arriving United Express in T8 to Lufthansa in TB. What's the best way to go between, and must I go through security again? Thanks.

At LAX, you have 2 options to get from T8 to TBIT (TB) - both of them, however, still require you to go through security check at TBIT before proceeding to your gate. (a) walk: a short walkway is between T8 & T7. At T7 take escalator down to tunnel connecting to T6, T5, T4; take escalator up and walk left around the bend to TBIT. (b) take bus: the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. Next stops: After T8 but goes to the other side to T1, T2, T3 & TBIT: 4 stops or 10 mins. Hurry!

My husband arrives international from Australia and I land and T8 2 hours later. What is the best way for him to come to find me?

Probably in the United baggage claim in Terminal 7 - however, it's not a very nice place to wait. He'll probably want to take his time getting over there.

This little sports bar looks promising, but the food is grim, fodder that even a goat would not recognize as sustenance. My $10 tuna sandwich was cold prepackaged fare that consisted of some meaty tuna-ish substance smeared between two slices of a thing I consider an insult to bread everywhere.

Always go to the wrong gate for UAL group departure from LAX. Is it gate 6 or 7 ?

If it's in the United priority check in area, that's between 6 and 7 (closer to 6).

  • distance from terminal 8 to terminal 6

Hello. We are arriving at terminal 8 tomorrow morning and have a little less than hour to get to our flight leaving from Terminal 6. My wife has a foot problem and can walk a short distance but not a long one. Is this going to be a problem? Thanks

It's about a quarter mile walk. I don't know what you define as a "short" or "long" distance, but it's not a marathon but it is also not just across the hall. If you're really worried you can request wheelchair service from United.

    Thanks. That's a doable walk.

  • La to Mexico City connection

I arrive in la from Sydney Australia at 6.40am (Qantas) will I make a flight to Mexico City which leave at 8.05am?? (Alaskan Airline)??

It's sort of pushing it. You may not get out of immigration until 7:30 which would leave you only 35 minutes to get to T6 and through security. If you don't already have your Alaska boarding pass and have to check bags separately at AS, then you will probably have missed the cutoff at that point.

  • Layover Q!

Arrive Terminal B from Sydney flying american airlines and have a layover time of 2h 25mins to make next flight in terminal 4 to continue on to rio de janeiro (via miami). Will we be pushed for time?

American does not fly Sydney-LAX. Your flight will be operated by QANTAS, which uses the TBIT. Terminal 4 is right next to the TBIT. You should have enough time.

Arriving from Aukland, NZ 10:30 am on Air New Zealand. Wanting to book US Airways to Phoenix @ 12:45. Will I have enough time coming in International to Terminal 1 with customs?

You can probably make that connection as you will arrive in Terminal 2, not the TBIT (unless you're looking at booking a ticket in 2014), and US departs from Terminal 1.

  • Making a flight

We are flying into LAX via Hawaiian Airlines into Terminal 2 arriving at 7:45 a.m. on Monday. Our outgoing flight is on Delta in Terminal 5 at 9:00 a.m. with carry-on bags only. Will there be enough time to make the change from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5? Thanks.

Yes, it should be enough time. However, LAX will be very busy that time of day.

  • 45 minutes layover doable or crazy?

Looking to book a flight on American Airlines from Dulles (IAD) to Honolulu. There is a 45 minutes layover in LAX. Would this be enough time to make the connection or not feasible with distance, etc of terminals. Any help would be appreciated!

Everything will be in the same terminal, so it's doable if your first flight is on-time.

  • 2hrs enough time from Term B to Term 4?
    Jun 6, 2013

I am debating to book an AA flight with a 2hr 20min layover during the end of August. My flight would arrive around 6:25pm from Shanghai at the Bradley Intl Terminal and I have to catch my next flight at Terminal 4 leaving at 8:45pm. Would this be enough time in August to go through customs, re-check bags, and switch terminals? Would it be faster to walk than to wait for the Airport Terminal Bus? Do I have to go through security check again when entering Terminal 4? Thanks in advance.

That will probably be enough time. Yes, it will probably be faster to walk than take the bus. Yes, any time you enter the US you have to go through security again. However, if your flight from Shanghai is on American you will not arrive at the TBIT. You will arrive in Terminal 4, same as your departing flight.

  • 49 minutes long enough layover?

I'm flying from Palm Springs to Dulles with a connecting flight at LAX. The PSP flight is on Skywest/United Express then 49 minutes until connection (United flight) leaves LAX for Dulles. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. All the United/United Express gates at LAX are connected beyond security and are a pretty easy walk.

Is Lufthansa airlines in the Bradley international terminal? And if I have someone meeting me there where would be the best place to meet? And if we have to transfer to Southwest what is the best way Thanks in advance

Lufthansa does use the Tom Bradley International Terminal. To transfer to Southwest you can either take the airline connections bus on the lower level or take a somewhat long walk clockwise around the circle (opposite the flow of traffic). I would budget at least 3 hours between the scheduled arrival of the Lufthansa flight and a scheduled departure on Southwest.

    1. At LAX, Lufthansa uses Bradley (TBIT or TB) terminal, while Southwest uses Terminal 1. The Bradley terminal is in the center of the U-shaped terminal arrangement (at left Terminals 3, 2, 1, at right Terminals 4 to 8, served by the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins - next stops T4 through T8, then over to T1 - 6 stops or about 15 mins. International arrivals need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance & (if LH will transfer bags to SW), re-check in bags where indicated - if not take bags to connecting T1 and check them in with SW). At T1 you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. You can meet at either TBIT or T1 in the Arrivals Hall, near the information center.

FYI Lufthansa will not transfer your bags to Southwest. Southwest does not allow interline bags from any other airline.

  • no monorail, why?

The existing airport terminal shuttle buses are too slow, because they get stuck in traffic. Why is there no monorail or dedicated train to get travelers to connecting flights? I have been through this airport multiple times. The buses cannot get me to the connecting flight on time, so I need to sprint from terminal to terminal, especially when the computer systems at Customer Border Control are down and Customs holds passengers in the hallways and refuse to process them for 1+ hours.

Because such a system would cost Hundreds of Millions of dollars and LAWA doesn't have that kind of money to spend.

Newest developments regarding LAX terminal transfers: The Los Angeles City Council has given a green light to a planned massive reconstruction of LAX, involving relocation of a runway, adding a light-rail station linked to the city's public transit system and to the terminals by an elevated people mover, as well as the eventual demolition of Terminals 1, 2 & 3. No time frame has yet been announced.
