  • Domestic airline transfer at LAX

I want to move from AA to Alaskan in my domestic trip to San Jose CA. We land at 9 and leave at 9:50pm. Will I have time to switch from terminal 6 to terminal 4? Can I by pass another trip through securtiy?

On arrival at LAX, at T6, go down to the ground level, take the escalator down to the tunnel to T5, take escalator up and exit T5, then walk over to the left to T4, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. (the bus runs the opposite way, taking longer). I suggest you open www.ifly.com/lax then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

is it hard to get from terminal 7 to international?

On arrival at LAX, at T7, exit the terminal and take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. Your next stops after T7 will be T8, then over to T1, T2, T3 and TBIT (the international terminal) - 5 stops or about 12 mins. At TBIT you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate.

  • 2 hour connection with terminal change

We are flying in from Calgary to LAX and need to change terminals to connect to our flight to hawaii with a 2 hour layover. Is that enough time? We clear customs in Calgary prior to landing at LAX so will we need to go through customs again and get our bags?

No you will not need to clear customs in LAX. 2 Hours should be enough time for most connections if you're Calgary flight is on time.

You have plenty of time. However, if you need to transfer from one Terminal to another (LAX has 9 terminals), I suggest you open www.ifly.com/lax,then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Changing Terminal from T6 to T7

Hi I hope somebody can help me...This is my first time to travel to the US enroute to Albany, NY. I will be flying in from New Zealand via United Airlines and will arrive at Terminal 6 at 10.10am on 5 April and my connecting flight to Chicago O'Hare is from Terminal 7 at 11.45am.. Do I have enough time to go through all the procedures?... Also, if somebody is familiar and can give me a run through of how and where I should go to upon arrival at the terminal so I can figure out where I will be heading to for the procedures, will be much appreciated. Thank you very much for helping out... Cheers

    1. I suppose you have booked your flight with United, which uses Terminal 6 at LAX.On arrival at LAX you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags; thereafter go back to the departures level, go through security check and on to your gate. No time to waste! T7 has gates 70-77. On arrival at ORD, United uses domestic Terminal 1 (B gates B1-22,C gates C1-332) or Terminal 2 (E gates E1A-15; F1-14). If you need to transfer between T1 & T2 at ORD (O'Hare), you can connect in the secured area without going through security check. For more information I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • 30 Min Layover in 7

We're flying from Hawaii to Chicago with only 30 minutes at LAX. We're flying into 7 and out of 7 so it should be simple enough but we've never been to LAX. Will that be enough time and do we have to deal with any security procedures or anything like that to slow us down? We shouldn't have to transfer bags since they're both United flights, but any advice would be great.

On arrival at LAX, at Terminal 7, which has gates 70A-71B, 72 & 73 & 74A-77B - just follow signs - you have enough time.

  • 90 minute connection
    Feb 22, 2013

My wife and I just received our tickets from our travel agent and I need to know if we can make my connection. I am arriving at TBIT on Air Tahiti at 10:25AM. I leave from Terminal 2 on Air Canada at 12:00 Noon! I called the airline and my luggage is definitevely NOT checked through so have to pickup and recheck at AC counter in addition to security screening. I have a NEXUS card so I can use a Global Entry kiosk instead of the regular line up at immigration, it would be my first time using one in the USA though so I do not know if it takes two minutes like in Canada instead of 30-60 minutes in the regular line up. The only place I might have to wait too long is baggage claim. Does anyone have any idea how long I would have to wait for my luggage pickup after going through the fast Global Entry immigration? Does anyone know if is possible to have luggage gate checked with Air Tahiti so we do not have to wait at the pickup belt? Thanks to all. This comment was moved from General to Terminal Connections.

I cannot see that you could make the transfer at LAX in 90 mins. As an international arrival at the US, you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through security check & take them to your connecting terminal. You need to count on at least 35-50 mins for arrivals procedure; thereafter you need to exit the large terminal with your bags in tow, and proceed to Terminal 2, where you need to go to the departures level to check in your bag with Air Canada, before you go through security check and on to your connecting gate. Another problem is the time to get to T2: Bradley Terminal is in the center of a u-shaped terminal arrangement, your T2 is at the left side, center, while traffic flows the opposite way: You may take a taxi, or the the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. Starting from TBIT, the next stops are at Terminals T4 –T8, around the bend to T1, T2 - 7 stops or 18 mins. Or you can walk to T2 taking about 10 minutes.

  • Claim baggage if staying in terminal?

I'm arriving on Southwest Airlines at LAX in Terminal 1, then getting on US Airways which is in the same terminal. Can I get Southwest Airlines to take my checked-in luggage to US Airways so I don't have to leave the terminal and go through the check point again?

No, Southwest does not interline baggage with any other airline. You will have to claim your baggage and re-check it with US Airways.

I'm arriving from HNL in Terminal 2 at 5:06 a.m. and my departure is from Terminal 5 at 5:45 a.m. Is this enough time? I've never flown before and am worried I will miss my connecting flight!

    1. Never make reservations where you only have around half an hour transfer time, unless you arrive at & depart from the same terminal of a smaller airport (or in large Airports even sometimes the same Concourse). 2. When making reservations ask if your initial airline will transfer your bags to your connecting airline's flight. 3. Note also that at LAX, when transferring to another terminal, you need to exit incoming terminal and go through security check (30-45 mins) at outgoing terminal before proceeding to your gate. 5. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/lax then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text - pay attention to "Getting Around LAX" & Central Terminal Area's Terminals". (being new to LAX I suggest you take the Blue Bus for transfer.)

How do I arrange for wheelchair service to get from terminal 7 to terminal 2 - with my airline

At LAX, all shuttle buses are lift-equipped. The Travelers Disability / Emergency contact is 310-646-7911. When making reservations tel your airline that you need a wheelchair attendant on arrival at T7 to the shuttle bus across from the terminals, and again from T2 to your gate.

  • International arrival Air NZ

Hi, I am booked on an Air New Zealand flight, arriving at 1pm on a Thursday, would I have enough time to go through customs, pick up bags and get to Air Canada flight leaving at 3:30pm? There are 5 passengers and are Australian citizens.

At LAX, both Air New Zealand & Air Canada use Terminal 2, which has gates 21 - 28. Both Airlines are members of the Star Alliance - therefore your bags will be automatically transferred to your Canada flight. On arrival, go through passport check, pick up bag, go through customs clearance and re-check-in bags where indicated. Then move on to security check. In the secured area you find a Food Court, shops & duty-free, Currency exchange & internet kiosks - all surrounded by the gate area. You have plenty of time.

Stopped in for late lunch and made it dinner. Enjoyed the special of the day, grilled Hallibut over mushroomed rice with Spinache and a wonderful light cream wine sauce. Meal exceeded expectations and would be a value at twice the cost ($28/plate when we ate). House Special Margarita was perfect at $9. Sushi was fresh and thick cut but a bit steep at $9/2 pcs.

  • T5 to Bradley- Security
    Jan 27, 2013

Hi, I've read through a lot of these comments and haven't really seen the answer I'm looking for, so sorry if this is redundant. I will be arriving at LAX at 9:30 in Terminal 5 and have a connection on Korean Air in Bradley. We are not checking any bags. Will I be able to simply walk from T5 to Bradley without going through security? If we have to go through security, does anyone know how long will it take approximately (9:30am on a Monday)? Any help is much appreciated!

T-5 is not connected to Bradley Int'l. You will need to go thru security again in the Bradley terminal. patstravelreviews.com

At LAX, you have two options to get from T5 to TBIT: (a) exit the terminal, then turn left, past T4, walk around the bend and enter TBIT (Bradley) - a 10-12 min. walk, (b) take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins; your next stops are T6, T7, T8, around the bend to T1, T2, T3 and on to TBIT - 7 stops or 18 mins. In both instances, you need to go through passport check before proceeding to your gate: Past TSA Screening at left are gates 106 - 101; past TSA Screening at right are gates 119 to 123, with access to bus gates 136 to 146.

  • T1 to TBIT

I fly thr southwest, will land at LAX at 10:20pm and my next international flight is ANA at 12:10am. I only have 1hr 50mins to transfer. So far I know i need to pick up my check-in bags, run/take shuttle to TBIT and recheck in at ANA counter. my questions are 1. does anyone know the proximate time to get ur check-in bags out at T1? 2.how long will take you to walk from T1 to TBIT? 3. how busy the TSA screening at late night (~11pm)? and last question, does anyone know where ANA counter locate at in TBIT? thanks

    1. Only if Southwest does not transfer your bags to ANA, will you need - on arrival at LAX, Terminal 1 - go to the baggage level (2 levels down) and claim your bag, taking it along to TBIT and checking it in at the ANA counter on level 2 before proceeding through security check and on to your gate. As only T2 & T3 are connected by walkway, you need to take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins, and makes stops at T2, T3 & TBIT, taking about 7 mins. You have enough time for transfer.

Southwest does not transfer bags to ANY airline. Walking from T1 to TBIT is pretty far and might take close to half an hour. Security should be pretty empty at that time, even the Australia flights have left by then.

thank you so much for the answers!!!
