  • changing from terminal 4 to terminal 6

How difficult is it to go from T4 to T6? I have difficulty walking, how do I get assistance since I understand I have to go through security again.

Call the operator of your first flight and arrange for wheelchair service if you need it.

I will be going from terminal 4 to International next week. Do I have to exit the terminal and go through security again once at International terminal? Typically, how long does it take including walking there (I have 1 hour 15 min connection time).

Yes, you will have to exit the terminal and go back through security. If your first airline will not transfer your bag to your second airline I don't think you'll have enough time. Even as it is, it is a very tight connection.

If arriving at LAX on united from Sydney and changing flights to fly on to New york do I need to go through the Security area after going through customs I fly into terminal 6 and fly out of 7 and is there a quick way off getting to terminal 7 Also if I miss my onward flight due to heldups ect does United have to put me on another flight Thanks for any ones help

On Arrival at LAX, you go through passport control, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance and then re-check-in your bags (35-50 mins); thereafter, proceed via escalator down to the tunnel connecting T6 with T7; take escalator a T7 back up and take elevator to departure level, there you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. Check with United as to their policy.

Thank you for all your help

  • Arriving T5 leaving T2

Is 2 hours enough time to clear customs and get from T5 to T2? Arrive Delta and leave Air China.

You only clear customs if you are an international arrival. If Delta will transfer your bags to Air China, all you need to do is exit T5 and take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. After T5, it stops at T6, T7, T8, around the bend to T1 & T2 - five stops or 12 mins. At T2 you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. If Delta does not transfer bags to Air China, you need to take your bags along and check them in at T2 with Air China. Your two hours should suffice in any case.

I am flying in on United Express and have a 49 min layover to fly to DC on United. Will that be enough time? Will I have to change terminals.

That's enough time but you'll have to hurry. It depends on what type of United Express flight you are on and whether your flight out is on United or United Express whether you will have to change concourses or not (Dulles only has one terminal). However, changing concourses at IAD is not difficult.

Note that United Express uses Terminals (gates 70-77) & Terminal 8 (gates 80-88), while United uses Terminal 6 (gates 60-67). Look at your boarding pass and on arrival at overhead screens to find your flight & gate numbers. If you need to change terminals, T6 & T7 are connected by underground tunnel, while T8 has a short walking path between T7 & T8. In each case you would have to go through security check again and really hurry.

  • 12 hr stop over

I have a 12hr stop over in LA and then connecting on a flight to London. Will I be able to re-check my bags for the connecting flight as soon as I get to LAX (12 hrs before the flight)?

You should be able to (unless perhaps someone from that airline has to be there and nobody is yet because their only flights are late in the day). If you're on American or United it should be fine, with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic it might be an issue. So, it depends what airline you're on and how much before their first flight you're coming in.

Thanks! We're getting to LA on American and connecting to a BA flight so we will see.

  • American Domestic to Qantas -Australia

Arriving on a domestice flight from MCO to LAX and then connecting on Qantas to Australia. I'm seeing that American and Qantas are in the same terminal so will I have to go through screening again or am I set unless I venture into another terminal?

Yes, if both of your flights are in the same terminal then you don't need to go through security again on your way there.

Our Brisbane flight is due to arrive at LAX at 6,40am. We want to connect on to a Portland flight that leaves at 8.35am. Does that leave enough time to clear customs and immigration and get to Terminal 6 (Alaskan Airlines)? We haven't had our photo's or fingerprints recorded before.

Yes, that should be enough time.

Is TSA precheck available at any of the United Terminals? I am flying out of T7 after transferring over from T2.

Calgary to LAX on Air Canada. Transferring from T2 to United Airlines commuter flight in T7. Easiest transfer? I should have 2 hours. Do i have to go out of security?

Yes, you will have to leave security. You can take the shuttle that operates on the lower level or walk, either way it's a long transfer, but you have enough time.

  • international arrival with baggage

Arriving on Korean Air at TBIT. This is Delta code share flight with a connection at Terminal 5. Will have to claim my baggage and check it in at 5 or will the bags be transferred to the connecting flight? Also, as I have 2 large suitcases is there porters available for assistance?

You will claim your baggage in Immigration and then you can re-check them with Delta in the TBIT once you clear customs. You'll then just walk yourself and your carry-ons to T5 and go back through security.

Need to go from T7 to T2 and have about two hours. It is a little hard for me to walk quickly because of recent surgery. What do you suggest I do to make my flight to China? What do I do to go through Security again? I will have carryon bags.

Yes, all international arrivals have to go through security after clearing immigration. Terminals 6 and 7 are connected. You just have to go up to the departure level and walk over.

  • Terminal 8 to terminal 4

We are flying in to terminal 8 on united express & land at 8:45am, we have to go to American terminal 4 for a 11am flight. Will we need to get our checked baggage & go through security? Will we have enough time to catch our flight?

If your tickets were bought on the same reservation, then United will be able to check your bags through to American. However if they were not you will have to claim them, take them to T4 and re-check them. Regardless, you will have to walk or take the shuttle to T4 and then go through security. You have enough time.

  • Domestic airline transfer at LAX

I want to move from AA to Alaskan in my domestic trip to San Jose CA. We land at 9 and leave at 9:50pm. Will I have time to switch from terminal 6 to terminal 4? Can I by pass another trip through securtiy?

On arrival at LAX, at T6, go down to the ground level, take the escalator down to the tunnel to T5, take escalator up and exit T5, then walk over to the left to T4, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. (the bus runs the opposite way, taking longer). I suggest you open www.ifly.com/lax then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.
