  • Air Tahiti Nui to/from Southwest
    May 27, 2014
We arrive in LAX via Air Tahiti Nui at 10:15 with a connecting flight on SWA at 1:50. Unfamiliar with the process from Tahiti, have I given myself enough time for the entire process? Thank you!

Yes, you should have plenty of time. You will arrive in the TBIT, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US Customs. Then you will have to take your baggage with you to T1 either via the inter-terminal shuttle bus that runs on the lower level or via walking along the curbfront on either the upper or lower level. You would walk to the left as you exit the TBIT (against the flow of traffic). You will then have to check your bags with Southwest, get your Southwest boarding passes, and go through security.

  • DELTA Connecting flight
    May 25, 2014
I am flying from PHX to Bangkok(BKK) on DELTA. I will arrive at terminal 5 gate 52A, then will depart from terminal 5 gate 68B. I looked at the terminal map, and could not find gate 68B in terminal 5. It's in terminal 6. So, what terminal is exactly gate 68B in? DELTA's flight details always show terminal 5 gate 68B. In case that they are in different terminals. Do I need to exit terminal 5 and go through the TSA checkpoint again? I have only 43 minutes between the flight. Will I have enough time? Thank you for your help!

Yes gate 68B is in Terminal 6; however, while T5 is exclusively used by Delta - T6 is being used by Alaska, Copa, Great Lakes & United airlines. Do check with Delta again. If you need to connect to T6, you need to take the tunnel connector, reached by escalators from the baggage claim level - then go through security check & on to your connecting gate. No time to waste!

  • 1 hr 40mins connection
    May 21, 2014
Hi We're travelling on United from Sydney to LAX (arr 10:40), then onto United Express flight to Kelowna, Canada (dep 12:20). We're arriving at T6 or 7, departing from T8. Is 1 hour 40 mins enough for this connection?

No time to waste! On arrival you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in your bags where indicated. Then go through security check and on to Terminal 8 with gates 80-88. Terminals 6, 7 & 8 are connected at their secured areas - count on additional 15 minute transfer.

  • Southwest Terminal 1 to United Terminal 7 - How?
    May 20, 2014
Hi, what is quickest way to get from Term 1 to Terminal 7? Do I have to go through security again at Terminal 7? I have 2hrs. Is this enough time to retrieve bags, recheck bags and go through security again? (Flying in with Southwest and out to HNL with United). Thank you!

You have to take your bags on the shuttle bus that runs on the lower level or, you can walk across the center of the airport on the lower level (through/past the parking garages). You will then have to check your bags and go through security and to your departure gate. You will barely have enough time if your Southwest flight is on-time.

If you bought both flights on one ticket, your bags will be transferred automatically - if not, check with Southwest first; if you would need to take your bags along & re-check them in at T7 your time will be tight. Between T1 & T7 are two big parking garages - without bags you can walk between them to the other side. OR use the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. Your next stop after T1 would be T2, T3, TBIT, T4 to T7 - 7 stops or about 18 mins. In both instances you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate.

Your bags will not be transferred automatically, Southwest does not interline bags with any other airline. tumay - stop giving bad advice.

  • Terminal 6 to TBIT
    May 18, 2014
Flying Alaska Air (presumably to T6), then transfer to TBIT to BA for London. 1) Do we have to leave security and re-enter? 2) Do we have to pickup checked baggage and move it with us?

Yes you will have to go through security in the TBIT after your transfer. If you purchased your tickets separately you will have to transfer the bags between terminals yourself.

  • Arv Delta 2255 from Atlanta - lv on Delta 417 for Sydney
    May 18, 2014
What is the best way from Delta Terminal 5 arrival to International terminal for departure?

If you are flying Delta to Sydney both of your flights will be in Terminal 5, you do not have to go to the International Terminal.

I arrive from BNE to LAX on Virgin Australia then take connecting Delta flight to Tampa (all booked via delta) Will 3 hrs be enough time to go through customs/baggage pickup and drop off/security? Thanks

Yes, 3 hours should be plenty of time.

  • Connect fly from terminal B to terminl 7 within 2 hrs 24 min
    May 15, 2014
I fly from Brisbane, arriving in LAX at 6:45am at Terminal B , my next connection fly is united at 9:04am at terminal 7, is this sufficient time to transfer, and what is the fast way to swing between Terminal B to Terminal 7.

On arrival at LAX at its Bradley (TBIT / TB) terminal, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bags. Thereafter, exit the terminal and take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. Starting from TBIT, the next stops are at Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7 - a 10-minute ride. At T7, you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. You have enough time.

You can also walk from the TBIT to T7 (walk to the right as you exit the Terminal). If your bags aren't tagged through to United in Brisbane you will have to take them with you to T7 to check them with United.

    thank you for advise

ZAP, thanks for the info. If I ask Qantas to tag my bags to Baltimore, should I still have to take them to T7?

No, in that case you can drop them at the re-check desk in the International Terminal

  • Terminal 6 to terminal 2 with 1hr 20 min connection time
    May 11, 2014
Hi I am arriving lax from Sydney at 10:35 on United and have to get to terminal 2 for and Aircanada flight at 11:55. All tickets booked through united and they tell me I will make connection the question is will I and what is the quickest way from T6 to T2

Your transfer time is very tight! On arrival at LAX, you need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance & then re-check-in bags where indicated. (they will then be automatically transferred to T2.) As T6 is opposite of the parking facilities, you only have two options: take a taxi or the bus - both of which require you going through security check at T2 before proceeding to your connecting gate. The LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front terminals, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', runs every 12-15 mins - After T6, it will stop at T7, T8, proceed around the bend to T1 & T2 - a 10-minute ride. P.S. as T6 is for United's preferred clients - find out if United provides its own shuttle gate-to-gate to T2.

You can ignore frmay's advice on terminal transfers. Yes, you can take the shuttle, but it's fastest to walk, especially at that time of day. There is no gate to gate shuttle. You cannot take a taxi between terminals either. Also T6 is not for "preferred clients" - the check in area is, but their gates in T6 are regular United gates.

  • UA express (7 or 8) to TBIT
    May 5, 2014
UA have changed our flight from TUS to LAX so that a 'satisfying' connection time of 4+ hrs to get a LH flight is now only 1 hr 40 mins. We have to go through Security again, which is our big worry...lavish afternoon (3:40-5:20pm) on a Thursday afternoon! Should I try to get much earlier flight out of Phoenix? Help/advice please. Thanks.

If your first flight is on-time you should be OK. Your bags should be checked through and you should get your LH boarding pass in TUS. All you have to do is run to the TBIT and go through security, which is usually not that bad.

  • TBIT to T2
    May 1, 2014
I will be arriving at TBIT from Kuala Lumpur on Malaysia Airlines, and then continue to Mexico City via Volaris on T2. I presume I have to go thru immigration, collect my luggage and then connect to T2. How long will it take to walk or take a shuttle bus from TBIT to T2? My flight will reach LAX on 0900. How long should I allow for the transfer to T2? The last time I was in LAX was 1988 and I remember long lines for non US citizens.

It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the TBIT to T2. I would recommend walking if possible rather than taking the shuttle. I would allow at least 2 hours between scheduled arrival and scheduled departure times, preferably 2.5 hours.

  • Connecting flights in TBIT
    May 1, 2014
Hi all, Im flying from SYD to NY with a connecting flight in LAX all with the same airline so i have been informed i dont have to collect or re check in baggage etc but i do have to be screened. both flight arrive and depart from TBIT i have 2 hours to connect, will this be enough to go through security and then find my gate? i haven't had to go via LAX before so im a tad worried

International arrivals in the U.S. need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated. TBIT is used for most of the the International arrivals (Virgin Australia uses T3 for departures and TBIT for Arrivals; and Qantas uses T4 for departures (QF16) and TBIT for arrivals. Your connecting flight to LAX will be in another Terminal. I strongly suggest that you open, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text for terminal & transfer options.

Sorry to add to this post, but I couldn't figure out another way to get this on the Q&A list. It is a sort of similar question: We are flying from San Luis Obispo airport (SBP) on August 2, 2014 arriving in LAX at 7:17 am, I believe in terminal 8 (by the way, when we first booked, the inbound flight was supposed to land at 7:00 am, not 7:17). Our outbound flight to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) on Air Canada leaves terminal 2 at 8:45 am with a final destination of Barcelona (BCN). I will try to get the luggage interlined between the two airlines, but still worry whether we will make it from one side of the airport to the other and our luggage delivered to the Air Canada flight before it departs. Any thoughts about the short layover time(1 hour 28 minutes)? Also, our return flight will be on August 13 using Lufthansa and getting to TBIT with a 2 hour and 20 minute layover in LAX. I will try to get the bags transferred through to United. Is that enough time to pass security and get back to terminal 8 for the United flight back home? Thank you so much for any insight.

Sorry, the first flight (SBP to LAX) is on United.

Yes, you should have enough time for both of your connections. For the SBP->LAX->YYZ connection you can walk across the middle of the terminals at LAX to get between T7 (where you will exit) and T2. On the way back you should have enough time - walk along the curbfront counter-clockwise from the TBIT to T7.

Thank you so much, ZAP. That is a relief. My biggest concern was going through security and customs, respectively. You are a great help. Thanks again and happy flying.

thanks for that. i have been informed by airline ( Qantas) that they arrive and depart from TBIT only one flight departs from T4 and that finishes as of May this year and i fly out in sept. i wont have to re check baggae or re check in i just have to go via security apparently so fingers crossed i will make it LOL

Superstarem, sorry I missed your post. Yes, you should have an easy connection. Everyone on your Qantas LAX-JFK flight will be connecting from other Qantas flights, so you should have no issues.

awesome thankyou ZAP thats awesome. its nice to have a bit of confirmation :)

Me again. Sorry ZAP and superstarem, again, that I am using this post. I promise this will be the last question. As I look at the LAX terminal map, it seems the luggage will have to go all the way around the airport to get from T8 to T2. Will it get to the plane on time? Thank you so much and I really apologize for butting in.

no problems at all sloshrinkwe are all here to share and learn :)

Thank you superstarem. That was a very kind statement.

If your first flight is on-time your baggage should make it.

  • shuttle help
    Apr 25, 2014
will shuttle drivers lift my luggage on and off the shuttle? It will be a large 50 lb suitcase, and I can't lift it.

Rental car or hotel shuttle - probably, inter-terminal shuttle, probably not. You probably shouldn't be traveling with luggage too heavy for you to lift.

  • moving from Southwest to Delta International terminals
    Apr 25, 2014
I'm flying into LAX on Southwest and must transfer to international terminal Delta headed for Australia. Are there any cabs or other assistance? I'm concerned that pushing the carts will be difficult since I have lower back problems.

There is a shuttle bus that connects all terminals on the lower (arrivals) level of the terminal roadside. Note that your Delta flight to Australia will depart from Terminal 5, not the International Terminal.

how long is the walk from terminal 1 to terminal 5? I can't lift suitcase onto shuttle?

The walk is about 15 minutes.

  • T3-TBIT
    Apr 18, 2014
What is the easiest way to get to TBIT from T3. Is walking possible? if yes, can you give me any direction?

TBIT is west of T3 (walk to the right when you emerge outdoors. You can also catch the free shuttle "parking lot C" as that shuttle stops at all terminals. (You won't go to parking lot C, you'll just catch that shuttle under the blue LAX Shuttle sign).

It is much faster to walk than to take the shuttle. T3 and the TBIT are right next to each other. Just walk to the right as you exit T3, either on the arrivals or departures level.
