Hi, I will be travelling from SFO to LAX to ABU Dhabi with my one year old kid. I will be arriving at Terminal 4 and will have to Depart through TBIT. My Transit time is 2 hours. I have 2 Questions : 1. Is the transit time 2 hours enough to transfer from terminal 4 to TBIT ? Also, Do i have to go through TSA security again at LAX ? Thanks in advance.

Yes, 2 hours should be enough time and yes, you will have to go through security in the TBIT.

Hi, I have a 10 pm arrival at LAX then I have to catch my flight to Brisbane, Australia which departs at 11:45. This is the first time travelling by myself and I'm scared and nervous. Do I grab my luggage from Terminal 4 (my arrival) and then do I have to go through TSA screenings then head to TBIT? If anyone can give me a walkthrough, I'd really appreciate it. And will I have enough time to make my flight?

If both of your tickets were purchased together (and I assume your flying into LAX on American) your bags will be tagged through to Brisbane in your origin. Assuming your origin is within the US, you won't have to do anything with your bags in LAX. You will arrive in T4, exit the terminal, walk to the left as you exit (against the flow of traffic), the next building you come to will be the TBIT. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate. You should be able to get your Qantas boarding pass from American at your origin airport, but if you can't you will have to get it first from the Qantas counter.

If both your tickets were bought at the same time and your first flight is with American you won't have to do anything with your baggage in LAX. All you have to do is exit T4, walk the short walk to the TBIT, and go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Terminal 2 to 4, switching airlines. Luggage?

I'll be flying to JFK via LAX from YYC (Calgary) in October. Haven't been through LAX in YEARS. First flight segment is an AA codeshare operated by WS. What I'm wondering is: Will I need to grab my bags and re-check them in for the AA flight? They were all booked together. Second, I'll be making the connection from terminal 2 to 4. How much time is needed for that and can/should I just walk between terminals? I think I have a couple hours layover. Thanks all!

Your bags should be checked through to JFK in Calgary so you won't have to do anything with them in LAX. You should just walk from T2 to T4. It will take about 15-20 minutes. You will have to go through security again once you get there.

  • Where to meet incoming passenger from Sydney on Delta - Terminal 5
    Aug 25, 2014

Can anyone tell me where to meet someone coming in on Delta from Sydney. He will come into Terminal 5, go through Customs/Immigration, and I would like to meet him when he exits the Customs area, re-checks his bags for Las Vegas and exits that re-check area. Anyone know where that would be? I will have a ticket as well, so I will be inside the secure area of Terminal 5... I'm thinking that they come out somewhere in the basement of Terminal 5... maybe in the tunnel? Sure would appreciate it if someone can tell me exactly where I would go to meet him as soon as he exits... he is my fiancee and I would like to be there to welcome him to the USA! Thanks!

They come out on the lower level near the domestic baggage claim So I think you'll have to wait outside security if you want to meet him.

Thank you for your help. I was thinking I had previously cleared customs and then came in the gate area there where McDonalds used to be, and didn't have to go back through security when taking that flight. From what I can tell here, you are the LAX GURU, so thanks again for your help!

  • Vancouver - Mexico - Separate Tickets

I'll arrive from Vancouver at Terminal 2 (Air Canada) and I need to catch an AeroMexico flight. I purchased separate tickets, so I will have to pick up my luggage. Do I have to exit security to check-in at AeroMexico (also terminal 2), or are there check-in booths that can take my luggage?

All baggage claims and check-in desks are outside security. The Aeromexico check-in desks will be on the upper level of Terminal 2, right above the baggage claim.

United Airlines Flight UA 6417 will be arriving from Santa Maria to LAX @ 12:30pm on Aug. 26, 2014; the same day, our next flight is United Airlines UA 1164 will leave LAX at 1:07pm to Denver. Will we have enough time to get to our terminal in 37 minutes?

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. You will arrive in Terminal 8 and depart from Terminal 6, 7, or 8. All United gates at LAX are connected inside security.

Making an international connection through LAX. Scheduled to arrive in Terminal 7 (LAX), and departing Terminal 1 (LAX). I have about 90 minutes to make the connection. Any suggestions for getting through this transfer quickly and with minimal fuss?

There are no LAX-FRA flights from Terminal 1. Terminal 1 is used by Southwest Airlines. What airlines are you flying?

I arrive at LAX from Santa Fe Municipal Airport @ 9:35 AM Terminal 4, with an International departure time of 11:50 AM on All Nippon Airlines. Do I need to claim and re-check my bags through, and most importantly, is this plenty of time to catch my international flight?

All Nippon departs from the Bradley Terminal (TBIT). On arrival at T4, you need to exit the terminal, and walk to the left around the corner to TBIT, where you will need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. Your bags will automatically be transferred to your connecting flight. You have plenty of time.

If you purchased your tickets together they will be transferred but if you purchased separately they will not. Also, you will have to obtain your ANA boarding passes from their counter in the TBIT as AA won't be able to issue them.

If your tickets were bought together you do not. You will preclear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto.

Hi, we are travelling from Melb to NYC on Qantas, arriving at LAX ay 7:10 am, departing for NYC at 10am. Is this enough time? Our flights are on the one ticket. Do we have to collect our luggage and re-check it in, or do we just have to go through customs and immigration and have our onboard luggage scanned. Also, we arrive Terminal B and depart Terminal 4, are they far apart?

Yes, that should be more than enough time. Yes, you will go through Immigration and customs in LAX and you will have to claim your luggage and re-check it.

Also, the International Terminal and T4 are right next to each other.

I have an hour between flights and only carry on bags, I'm also TSA pre. How long does it take to get from T6 to T2?

If you walk straight across through the parking garages the walk takes 10 minutes if you move quickly. To make your connection I also suggest you check in for your Hawaiian flight online before departing on your United flight.

Gate 70 to 27 how long for TSA?

    That I can't predict.

I'll be arriving at international terminal at 8pm from Manila via PAL and have a domestic flight to LasVegas with United at 10pm, is 2hrs enough to go thru immigration&customs and be at the United counter in the domestic terminal? And UA ticket states we have to be at the check-in counter 45min before which cuts our transfer time to 1.15hrs. Any tips on how to be faster to make it at the check-in counter on time? It is our first time in LAX.

It will be very very difficult. It is a good 20 minute walk to the United check-in counters, so you'll have to be out of customs 55 minutes after your plane is scheduled to arrive to make it on-time.

thank you for your insight, if we ride airport transportation would it be faster than 20min walking? Do we drop our luggage in TBIT United transfer desk or we drag it all the way with us to check-in at United Terminal 8?

At that time of night, the bus may be faster. You'll have to see how traffic is moving. I'm guessing it won't save you much time. If your bags are tagged through to LAS by PAL then you can drop them at the United transfer desk in the TBIT. Otherwise you will have to bring them with you to T7.

I asked PAL, they would not tag it thru LAS since my tickets are separate airline bookings, if i do online check-in and pre-print boarding pass and drop my luggage at curbside check-in, it might be faster? Where is the curbside checkin at TBIT? Your help is much appreciated

There is no curbside checkin at the TBIT. You'll have to take the bags with you to T7.

  • Enough Time

I need to know if I have enough time to get from UA 5387 to Alaska 157 if I arrive at LAX at 6:57 p.m. and depart on the Alaska flight at 7:45 p.m. I don't know where either airline is located. I will have checked my bag all the way when I depart San Luis Obispo for LAX.

You will arrive in Terminal 8 and depart from Terminal 6. They are connected inside security. However, you will absolutely have to check-in for your Alaska flight online before you leave on your United flight. This itinerary also leaves little to no time for any delays.

Thanks for the information. It was very helpful.

i read a lot about that topic, but i'm still not sure if we should take the following flight: we'll arrive at 12:40pm at TBIT from Germany and must do the immigration, pick up our baggages and all of that. now, we are thinking to take a flight to Las Vegas. It would be enough time to get the connecting flight at 4:05 pm (virgin america. we must do the check in at least 3:20pm) or should we take the flight at 6:40? thank you for response

You should be fine with the 4:05 flight. You will be out of customs at the TBIT by 1:40 at the latest and it's only a 5 minute walk to T3.

    Thank you ZAP :)

I'm coming through LAX to japan from Phoenix and heard that construction is making the connections much harder United domestic to international departures. Is the construction and all that bad?

There is no construction in the United Terminals. It should not affect you.
