  • Advice on Terminal
    Jan 13, 2014
I will be flying to Hong-Kong from LAX Terminal B and shall be coming from San Jose on Terminal 4 AA Is terminal 4 and terminal B inter-connected and do i need to re-collect my boarding pass

Terminal 4 and the International Terminal are located next to each other but you will have to go outside and may have to go to the Cathay Pacific check-in desk to get a proper boarding pass. You will have to go through security again once you get to the International Terminal as well.

I'm also flying from San Jose to LAX on American and then to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. Both flights are on the same ticket. I was told that my bags are checked through to Hong Kong. I'm assuming that I don't need to check in to my CX flight when I get into LAX? However, my big concern is that there is only one hour between my arrival from San Jose to my departure to Hong Kong. Will that be enough time? Since both flights are scheduled with American Airlines, I think they would tell me if the connection does not work?

  • enough time?
    Dec 29, 2013
I arrive LAX from Seattle at 8:55pm. Term. 6 on Alaska. I Need to get bags from bag claim, go to Bradley & check in again for flight on Quantas to Melbourne, Australia at 11:30pm. Is that enough time? My only other choice is to arrive LAX at 7pm. Terminal maps don't show where I pickup up my bag and how to get to bradley.

Yes you have enough time for transfer. On arrival at T6, get your bag and exit the terminal. Take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. Your next stops are T8, going around the bend to T1, T2, T3 and then TBIT (Bradley)- count on about 12 mins. Check-in counters at TBIT are on level 2. Thereafter go through security check and follow signs to your Concourse which is either E or F. (Look at overhead screens for flight & gate numbers). To familiarize yourself with the Airport layout, I suggest you open, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You can also walk from T6 to the TBIT fairly easily.

  • Baggage!!
    Dec 27, 2013
I'll be arriving with American at terminal 4 and i have a connecting flight at terminal B, do i have to claim my baggage and check it again at terminal B? Thanks!!

By "Terminal B" do you mean the International Terminal? What airline are you flying out of the International Terminal? Were both tickets bought on the same reservation or not?

  • Enough time to change flights?
    Dec 26, 2013
Arriving T2 at 3:20 on 12/29 with checked bags. Will we have enough time get baggage and get to T1 in time to check bags, go through security and connecting flight at 4:20?

Probably not. You need to change your flights.

We're flying United from SLC to LAX on 1/29 arriving at 7:05 am @ Terminal 8. Our Hawaiian Airlines flight is at 8:40 am from Terminal 2. I know we'll have to exit the airport and go back through security — and they won't transfer our bags, so we'll have to do that ourselves. Originally we had almost 2.5 hours between flights, but both airlines have changed their times. I'm a little stressed and United won't let us switch our flight to the day before. Someone had suggested exiting baggage claim at Terminal 7/8, getting a cab to Terminal 2. Then using the Skycap services — or Hawaiian Airlines web check-in bag drop — to expedite that process. Does anyone have a sense of whether this is possible?

You will not be able to get a cab that will take you between terminals.

  • time needed getting through customs to make connectign flight
    Nov 14, 2013
I will be arriving into LAX, from Tahiti, on Qantas. It would be on a Thursday at 11:00 am. I would like to take a Virgin America flight to Portland,OR that departs at 1:30 pm. They would both be booked on the same ticket. Does this really allow enough time to make the connecting flight?

Qantas does not fly from Tahiti to LAX. Your flight is probably on Air Tahiti Nui. Air Tahiti Nui and Virgin America do not appear to have an interline agreement, so you would have to move the bags yourself to T3 from the TBIT. That would be a very difficult connection to make. Also, Virgin America no longer flies nonstop from LAX to Portland, so I don't know what flight you're looking at.

Yes, there is a stopover in San Fran then on to Portland. I thought it was a little strange this was being offered up as one ticket. The connection seemed rather close. Thanks for the information.

For reference, I flew in on the Air Tahiti Nui flight that arrives at 10:25 AM last month and flew out of LAX from Terminal 7 at 1:14 PM and had priority security and maybe only had 45 minutes to spare. So your proposed itinerary doable, but it's cutting it close.

  • Is 3hrs 50 min sufficient International to Domestic
    Nov 13, 2013
Hi. We arrive at TBIT at 1100 and I wish to book a direct flight to IAD. The ideal would be an AA flight departing at 1450. It seems on the face of it sufficient time to connect, but at LAX? I can book a UA flight at 1704 if absolutely necessary. Thanks

Yes, that should be plenty of time. The TBIT and AA's terminal are right next to each other so it's a very easy walk. I arrived in the TBIT at about 9 AM last month and I was out of customs by 9:45

  • DEN-LAX on Frontier, LAX to Bangkok on Delta
    Nov 13, 2013
Hi, we are US citizens, arrive at LAX at 9:54 from Denver on Frontier, then depart at 12:00 on Delta for Bangkok via Tokyo. We are wondering if this 2 hours is enough time, and how we make this connection- I assume we come in on T3, and then claim bags, go to Terminal B and recheck? Any tips or advice very welcome. Thank you.

Yes, that should be enough time but you will really have to hurry since you have an international departure and have to transfer bags yourself. You will arrive in Terminal 3 and depart from Terminal 5, NOT the International Terminal.

Thank you, zap. I saw all the delta at 5, but wasn't sure if that included international or not. We can certainly hustle.

  • Arr from Mexico City - 1 hour enough to clear customs make connection?
    Nov 11, 2013
We have a family of 5, including 4 US citizens (3 adults, one toddler) and one permanent resident (green card). Will one hour be enough time to get through customs and immigration, and board our connecting domestic flight? What is the process?

Note - flight will arrive from mexico in terminal 6, connecting flight also leaves from terminal 6.

  • Checking baggage
    Nov 3, 2013
Arriving from LIMA with TAM Airlines at 7:25 AM ( TB terminal) and departing at 9:55 AM to Vancouver from Terminal 6 with ALASKA Airlines. Do I need to have to clear custom and immigration (not US citizen), claim baggage in TBIT or do it again in T4. The flights are on one E-ticket. Thanks Don

On arrival at LAX, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag (your bags will then automatically be transferred. Thereafter, you need to exit the terminal and either walk (to the right, passing Terminal 4 & 5 to T6 (taking approx. 15 mins.) - or take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. (taking approx. 10 mins) - either way, you will need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. No time to waste!

  • connection flight T4 -> T6
    Oct 30, 2013
I'll fly from Narita (AA airlines) and my arrival will be in T4, the connection flight depart from T6. Will i have to clear custom and immigration (not US citizen), claim baggage in T4 or do it in TBIT?

You will arrive, clear immigration, claim your baggage, go through customs, and re-check your bags all in T4 (assuming you bought all your tickets on one reservation). After re-checking your bags go outside to the curbfront and it's a short walk to T6. What airline are you flying onwards out of T6?

Thank for your reply, i'm arrive at T4 on AA170 and depart from T6 on AA7072 to Seattle, and all my tickets on one reservatoin. I don't know what to do in LAX. I search on google about T4 map and don't find any map show that T4 has points to do something like clear immigration and custom. So i think that i have to walk to TBIT to do that things.

No, T4 does have immigration. It's all on the lower level and doesn't show up on the maps since all you do there is wait in line. Today, for example, AA170 arrived at gate 41 (which is in T4). American's map of T4 does show the International arrivals in T4 as well - FYI, if you don't know your flight to Seattle will be operated by Alaska Airlines.

By the way, my eticket show that the flight from LAX to SEA is AA7072 at 2:10 PM (operated by AS) but i didn't find the information about this flight (departure, gate), i also didn't find any flights departing to SEA at that time ... I guess it depart from T6, what exactly the flight AA7072?

AA7072 is Alaska Airlines flight 461 currently. Right now it is a 2:50 PM flight, so perhaps it changes to a 2:10 PM flight when you are traveling. You could go to the alaska airlines website and search for a flight that matches yours on the day you are traveling.

  • Travelling from canada
    Oct 26, 2013
We are travelling from Toronto (AA airlines) to LA connecting with Qantas Terminal B. Will our luggage be checked through to Australia? Will we beable to by pass customs and security? Qantas runs a shuttle service is this faster than walking from T4 to TBIT? Thank you

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. When you arrive in LAX, you should just walk from T4 to the TBIT where you will go through security.

At Toronto, use their U.S. customs clearance - foregoing this procedure at LAX. As to baggage - Qantas AA both belong to the Oneworld Alliance - your bags will automatically be transferred. Note that AA uses both T3 & T4; Qantas TBIT & T4; If you need to transfer between them use the Qantas shuttle bus. (a connector at TBIT is soon to be in place linking it to T4).

Your arrival will be in T4, AA does not use T3. Qantas flights to Brisbane use T4. Qantas flights to Melbourne and Sydney use the TBIT. It's a very easy walk from T4 to the TBIT should you choose to walk.

  • will I make the connecting flight?

Sorry for the extra informaiton. The incoming flight is from Sydney and the outgoing flight is to Panama City.

Yes, that should be enough time to make your connection, even if you have to move bags yourself.

  • 59mins - Terminal 6 to Terminal 8
    Oct 24, 2013
II am landing from an international flight in Terminal 6 and have 59 mins until my flight to Canada leaves from Terminal 8. It is all booked through United. Will I need to clear Customs in LA before going to Canada and will I have enough time to make my next flight?

Where is your international flight from? AFAIK United should not have allowed you to book such a tight connection.
