Arriving LAX at 8:50pm on Delta, departing LAX 11:50pm Virgin Australia, all booked on one ticket, is this sufficient layover time?

Yes, that is enough time. If you already have your Virgin Australia boarding pass you can take the tunnel to T4 and then the new connector to the International Terminal and your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

  • From TBIT to Terminal 4

I have a question or two. I'll be arriving with AA from Heathrow at 5.20 pm on may 14th at TBIT and leaving for Las Vegas with AA from terminal 4 at 6.50 pm (thanks AA for changing the departure time!) Do I have to pick up my checked luggage and re-check it again? And do I have to go through security again? It will be the first time I have a connecting flight at LAX.

AA Flights except one from Australia do not arrive in the International Terminal. They arrive in Terminal 4. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and to your departure gate. You barely have enough time if everything goes perfectly.

US citizen arriving into LAX on VS. Continuing to HNL on DL. Not able to check in to DL before leaving London. Re: customs, DL check in, and luggage check in, what is the order of the steps, where do I each one, and how do I get between terminals?

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US CUstoms, then take your bags with you to Terminal 5 (walk to right right as you leave the International Terminal), the second building you come to is T5. You will go inside check your bags with Delta, and go through security.

Its my first time to take LAX for international travel and im very anxious because of the short time to connect to international flight. I have a domestic flight from ABQ-LAX arriving 06:45, I have checked baggage. My next flight would be LAX to PHILIPPINES at 09:30 in TBIA, do i have to go thru security again before i can check my baggage with Cathay Pacific?

I forgot to mention that im flying on April 16 via American Airlines from ABQ-LAX

If the tickets are on two separate reservations you will arrive in the American Eagle remote terminal, take the shuttle to Terminal 4, claim your bags, take your bags to the International Terminal, check them with Cathay and then go through security. If everything is on the same reservation then you don't have to do anything with your bags, you will just take the shuttle to Terminal 4 and then walk through the new connector inside security to your departure gate in the International Terminal.

Thanks for letting me know. It's two separate reservations. Do you think i will make it on time with in the 2 1/2 hr leeway? I checked in online with Cathay Pacific already, i dont know if that helps.

On two separate reservations its just enough time unless you can get AA to check your bags through to Cathay. Otherwise you will have to claim your bags in T4, take them to the TBIT and re-check them with Cathay and go through security.

Do you think its possible that AA can do that? I hope they can even if with extra fee. If not then i need to wear my best sneakers and prepare to run. Is taking the bus better or just walk/run to TBIA?

T4 and the International Terminal are right next to each other, it's much faster to walk than to take the bus.

I am arriving at terminal 1 on Southwest and will be flying out of terminal 2 on Hawaiian. Will I need to go through security between the terminals?

Yes, you will have to go through security in Terminal 2. I recommend at least 2 hours between flights without checked bags and 2.5 hours with checked bags.

We arrive from Munich at 3:15 on Lufthansa. Have flight to Phoenix at 4:45. We are US citizens. Is that enough time to clear customs & make PHX flight? Phoenix flight is United term 7

That's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly. I'd personally be nervous about it.

ICN-LAX on Korean Air arrives at 3:10 pm tuesday. LAX-DEN on Southwest leaves at 5:00 pm. Can I make it to terminal 1 and through Immigration, clear customs and security in time to catch my flight? I have checked bags(8pcs) from ICN to DEN.

No, I don't think that's enough time. Also how many people are in your group? One person cannot check 8 pieces of baggage on a Southwest flight. You will have to bring your bags with you to Terminal 1 from the International Terminal to re-check your bags with Southwest.

SYD-LAX on Delta arrives at 6:45 am Saturday. LAX-SFO also on Delta leaves at 8:15 am. Both flights are on the same reservation, so bags will be checked all the way through to SFO. Is that enough time to pass through customs and what is quickest way from TBIT to Delta terminal?

You will still have to claim your bags to go through US Customs and then re-check them at the re-check desk immediately after. The fastest way to Terminal 5 from the International Terminal is just to walk. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

I HAVE A FLIGHT FROM BRISBANE WITH CONNECTION TO CANCUN (4 HOUR GAP). AFTER CLEARING IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS WITH LUGGAGE WOULD I BE ABLE TO EXIT THE TERMINAL TO MEET SOMEONE OR ARE TRANSIT PASSENGERS KEPT IN SPECIAL AREA?

Once you clear US Immigration and Customs you will be outside security and free to go where you want and see who you want.

    Thanks..much appreciated

I am flying into LAX at 5pm (11/2) and departing on Air China at 1:40am then next morning (11/3) on different reservations. What is the process for checking in to my Air China flight... go thru customs, then check my bag onto the Air China flight? And how early can you check your bags on Air China? I am asking because I want to be able to check my luggage in on my Air China flight when I arrive at 5pm, leave the airport to visit family and come back around 10:30-11...is this possible?

Where are you arriving into LAX from? There is no US Customs when exiting the US. The Air China desk will not be open when you arrive because they have no departures between 2:20 PM and your departure. The desk will likely re-open at about 10:30 or 11 PM. You will have to take your bags with you if you want to leave the airport.

We are arriving from Anchorage, AK. When we depart from LAX on Air China, do we just check our bags in on Air China then go thru security and that's it? Approximately, how long will it all take?

Yes, that's It. You should be back at LAX at least 2 hours before your flight.

I will be landing in LAX at 6:55am via AA and then leaving on virgin America at 9:05am. Will this be enough time? What is the best way to do this? I will be traveling with two kids and my grandmother who we will get wheelchair assistance for. Also hoping no checked luggage.

Where are you arriving from on AA?

    Hawaii.

WIth no checked baggage this is barely possible if you check in for your Virgin America flight online before you leave Hawaii. The best way between terminals is to walk. Hopefully the wheelchair assistance person will be OK with taking her to another terminal.

  • Is 2 hours 20 minutes enough for this connection?

I'm flying in from London to LAX on Norwegian at 4:10 pm. Need to catch a flight to SFO. Would a 6:30 pm Virgin America (they're still selling tickets) flight work? No checked luggage, but will have to clear passport control. Thanks!

Yes, that would be just enough time with no checked bags if you check in online for the Virgin America flight before you leave London.

I am flying in from London on Norwegian airlines to LAX and departing on southwest to Oakland. There is 75 min. between arrival and departure. No checked baggage and can I make it? I know the terminals are on opposite ends of the airport and one is upstairs and one is downstairs? Any help appreciated

I think that would be pretty much impossible. Even without checked bags.

Is 2 hrs enough time to get from terminal 5 to International terminal?

Do you have checked bags? Are your flights all on the same reservation or separate ones? What airline are you flying out of the International Terminal?

I just posted a question but wanted to add more detail. I am scheduled to fly from SLC and to land in LAX at 6:45am on a southwest flight in terminal 1 and depart to Miami at 8am on an American from terminal 4. Can I make it to terminal 4 and through security in time to catch my flight? I imagine I will save a lot of time if I don't check a bag correct?

Yes, with a checked bag it would be completely impossible. With no checked bags it is instead just very very difficult.

Thank you! This is a great site, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
