I am flying to LAX from Orlando FL on Delta and then transferring to Cathay Pacific for a flight to Manila Philippines. Is the luggage transfer post security? How much time should I have?

No, you will have to exit terminal 5, walk to The International and go through security. If you have checked bags and are on two separate itineraries you will have to transfer your bags yourself too. If you are on one reservation I recommend 90 minutes to 3 hours. If you are on two separate reservations I recommend 3 hours.

Hi, I am flying from New Orleans to Maui, transiting in LAX for 2hrs 05mins. Flying Delta for MSY-LAX, then Hawaiian LAX- Maui. Do I need to change terminals, and is that enough time? Thanks heaps!

Yes you will arrive in terminal 5 and depart from Terminal 2. You have barely enough time.

Hi, I am arriving at LAX terminal B at 07:50am on Wednesday June 1 and need to book a flight to NYC the same day (likely with United Airlines). Just wondering how much time I should allow between flights please? Thanks!

I would look for a flight departing after 11 AM.

Hi, Flying in on Air New Zealand at 1455, then transferring to Alaska Air for a flight out at 1735 to Portland. Enough time for this or book the next flight out at 1940?

I would book the 1940 flight if you are booking two separate reservations.

  • MEL-LAX & LAX-MEX transit

Hi, hoping you can shed some light on the transit times. I''ll be flying MEL to LAX with Qantas arriving 06:35. My next flight will then be LAX to MEX CITY with Aeromexico at 09:15 the same day. The flights are on 2 separate different tickets. Will 2hrs40mins be enough time to get between the two flights including transferring my bags and rechecking in? Cheers thanks.

That's barely enough time if the Qantas flight is on-time and everything goes smoothly with immigration, baggage, claim and customs. Aeromexico uses Terminal 2.

I have a fligth from Lax to DFW and then a connecting flight to SJO. Same reservation and ticket. Since Lax to Dallas is domestic flight but final destination is international which Lax terminal should I go? Are the bags going all the way to Sjo or they need to be rechecked in Dallas? Thanks!

Assuming both flights are on American, you go to Terminal 4 to check in, just like any other American Airlines flight. You won't have to do anything with your bags in DFW. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

Hi, I am looking at buying a flight with Alaskan departing SJD (Mexico) at 12:05 PM, landing LAX Terminal 6 at 2:39 PM. Onward flight would be at Bradley at 4:50 PM. Backpacker, so I would only have a carry-on. No checked luggage. Planning to check-in online for everything with printable boarding pass. Doable? How?

Yes, should be doable, with no checked baggage you should be able to get through US Immigration and Customs pretty quickly, then exit T6 and walk to the International Terminal and through security. It's obviously somewhat risky if the flight from Mexico is delayed, but this should be doable with no checked baggage.

My flights DEN_LAX_MEL were made on one reservation through Qantas. They have since changed my flight and transit times. I now only have 1 hour 15 minutes between arriving in LAX on QF3057arriving at 20:59 and transferring to QF94 at 22:15. I called and they told me they 'think it's do-able' and that I would have to also collect and recheck my bags. This information doesn't seem right and the transfer time seems too tight. Is it enough time?

You will not have to collect and re-check your bags on the way to Melbourne. There is no US Customs when exiting the US. You will however, arrive in the American Eagle remote terminal, then have to take a shuttle to Terminal 4, walk to the International Terminal, and go through security. There is barely enough time to do all this if your flight from Denver arrives on-time, but it is doable.

I am arriving at terminal seven and would like the easiest and quickest way to make this transfer. Will I leave and renter security in this process?

Exit T7, walk to your left for about 10 minutes and you will come to the International Terminal. You will have to go through security again in the International Terminal.

Hi, I will be flying in on Air Tahiti Nui landing at LAX at 11:10 AM. I'm planning on taking a 2:00 PM flight onward to JFK on United. These will be booked separately so I assume I'll have to collect and recheck bags. I am global entry and both flights will be on business class. Is this doable?

Yes, with global entry I think that would be doable. I made essentially the same connection a few years ago (arrived Air Tahiti Nui at 10:25 AM departed United at 1:14 PM) and it was enough time.

I'm travelling from LHR to LAX. Then I have a connecting flight to LAS. I have 1 hour 40 mins in between flights. Is that enough time to get through customs and get from terminal 4 to terminal 1? The flights were booked at the same time and are with AA. Thank you

AA nor any of its partner airlines use Terminal 1. If both flights are operated by American they will both be in Terminal 4 and you should have enough time. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

Hi, our domestic flight from Orlando to LAX has been pushed back, leaving us only 1 hour to get to our international flight back to Sydney. Is this feasible or have we just lost a lot of money?

What airlines are you flying? Are all your tickets on the same reservation or separate? I can't answer your question without this information.

We are flying United Orlando>LA then QANTAS LA>Sydney on separate reservations.

There's no way you can make that. But since the schedule change for the United flight was involuntary you can either get a refund for that portion or change to an earlier flight to LAX, likely connecting in Houston. You need to contact the outlet that you booked your United ticket with to get it changed.

I have contacted United and they would not provide a refund unfortunately. We are now on the flight via Houston.

Hi! My daughter is flying from Orlando to Brisbane with Delta landing in Terminal 5 at 9:48pm and leaving from Tom Bradley Terminal at 11:20pm (with Qantas). It is all on one ticket so her luggage should be checked through. That only gives her 1h30, would that be enough time? will she have to go through passport control in TBIT terminal? Thanks

There is no Passport control when leaving the US, but she will have to go through security in the TBIT. She will show her passport to the gate agent when she boards the plane to Brisbane. She has just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Hi, I am flying Virgin Australia from Brisbane to LAX landing in Tom Bradley terminal at 6:55am. I am looking to purchase a flight from LAX to Toronto with West Jet that departs at 8:45am. I would have to collect my luggage as it isn't on one ticket. Would this be enough time? Or am I better getter an 11am flight with Delta? Thanks

I would get the 11 AM Delta flight - under two hours on two separate tickets with checked baggage is pretty risky.

Hi, I'm flying from Toronto, Canada to Adelaide, Australia through LA and Sydney. I'll get to LAX on Air Canada 1h 45m before having to board my next flight to Sydney which I believe is with Qantas. Would that be enough time?

If all tickets are on the same reservation that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. In LAX you arrive in Terminal 2, walk to the International Terminal, get your Qantas boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security.
