  • Southwest connection with Hawaiian Airlines
    Feb 11, 2016
Flying into LAX on Southwest to connect to Hawaiian. I'm researching now, will I really need to leave secure area in one terminal only to go back through security in another? Is there a way to stay in secure area? Thank You!

They use different terminals that are not connected. Yes you have to exit one and go through security again. Also if you have checked bags you will have to claim and transfer them yourself.

Thank you for the confirmation! I could not believe what I was reading, I've been through so many tunnels there, I was sure 1-2 must have one. bummer but Thank You!

  • Terminal 3 to Terminal 4
    Feb 11, 2016
I am arriving in terminal 3 on Spirit at 8:07a and departing out of terminal 4 on American at 9:32a and wanted to know if there is adequate time and if I will have to go through security again.

That is just enough time as long as you don't have any checked bags and check in online for your AA flight. You will have to go through security again in T4.

  • TBIT to Terminal 5
    Feb 11, 2016
Please advise if that's enough time to make our connection? arrives at 13:55 LAX Terminal TBIT Flight to SLC Delta Airlines DL2004 departs at 16:35 LAX (Terminal 5 ) So 2 hours 40 mins to make the connection. Thanks in advance :)

What airline are you flying into the TBIT on? Are both tickets on the same reservation or two separate ones?

Hi - we are arriving on BA and via two separate bookings - so we will need to collect our baggage and re-check in with Delta

In that case that connection is possible but doesn't leave much time to spare if there's a delay.

  • 30 minute connection
    Feb 11, 2016
I'm flying United from San Diego to LAX on a Friday morning at 10:30. Once my flight arrives in LAX, I have 30 minutes to catch another United flight to Cleveland. Will I have enough time to get to the next terminal?

Yes, that should be enough time. Both flights are in Terminal 7/8 which are connected inside security and really just two wings of the same building.

  • American to Southwest
    Feb 11, 2016
I arrive at LAX on American Airlines at 7:10am (Wed 3/29 from Fresno) & it have a Southwest Airlines flight that departs at 8:35am. Will I make that connection? Will carry on vs. checked bags matter? I'm a fast walker. Thanks for any guidance.

With carry-ons only I think you have a chance. Note that you'll arrive at the American Eagle remote Terminal and have to take a shuttle to American's terminal, then take another shuttle or walk fast to Terminal 1. With checked bags I don't think you would have a chance.

  • From Terminal 5 to 6
    Feb 10, 2016
We will be arriving with Delta for Ixtapa (ZIH) at 6:25PM on Saturday with Delta and then depart at 7:40PM for Seattle with Alaska. Do you we have enough layover time to catch that connection? I believer we will have to go from T5 to T6? Thanks

1 hr 25 minutes is less than I would recommend for an International to Domestic connection through LAX. Although it would be more possible if you're not planning on bringing checked baggage.

  • Terminal 1 to International
    Feb 10, 2016
Hi, I'm arriving around 10am to terminal 1 (southwest) and need to get to International terminal - flight is at 4:10 - what is the easiest/quickest way to get there? Looks like a long way - would it make sense to see if Etihad chauffeur could pick me up? Should I try to not check my bag? would that help? Or find an earlier flight?

I doubt Etihad chauffeur would pick you up. You have plenty of time. You can take the shuttle or walk.

    thank you!

  • How long does it take
    Feb 9, 2016
I am flying from Amsterdam to Maui with a connection in LAX for 3 hours. Is this time enough to go through customes and claim luggage then check in for the domestic flight ?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Non connected international flight
    Feb 9, 2016
Hi, im flying from Sydney to LAX arriving at 0630am, Tom Bradley Terminal with Virgin Airlines. We have another flight with United Airlines which was 1000am, but pushed forward to 0930am. Not sure what terminal, but we will have to collect our bags and then check them with United staff. Do we have to clear customs and be readmitted? Is United Airlines miles away from Virgin Terminal? Is 3hrs enough? I thought 3.5 hrs would be enough but now United have done this which makes it a worry.

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then follow the signs for passengers ending their trip in LA (NOT connecting passengers). Exit the international terminal and walk to your right. It's about a quarter mile to Terminal 7 where you will re-check your bags with United, go through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

So our trip ends in LA and im guessing less clearances and checks? Seems strange that we dont go through the connecting passengers aisle.

It depends on if you are ticketed all the way through to your final destination. You can confirm that at Check-In in Sydney as they will either check your bags through to LAX or through to your final destination. If you are only checked through to LAX then you will have to do as Mat mentioned above. If you are checked all the way through then you can go through the connecting passengers line.

We booked our flights separately with separate airlines. So i guess we wont be connecting passengers aisle but as Zap says, passengers ending trip in LA. As long as we can land at 630am and make our other flight on United at 930am ill be happy

  • GDL-LA-Hong Kong
    Feb 8, 2016
Hi, I am flying in from GDL (Alaska Airlines). The flight lands on Terminal 7. I understand that I have to clear immigration and customs and re-check. Would re-check happen on terminal B ? I have about 2 hours. I understand that there is a shuttle bus between 7 and B. Thanks

You will arrive in Terminal 6. What airline are you flying to Hong Kong? Were all tickets purchased on the same reservation? If your bags are checked through to Hong Kong then you can re-check your bags at the re-check desk right after customs in T6, then I suggest walking to the International Terminal, the bus is very slow. When you get there you will have to go through security.

Thanks. I am flying Cathay Pacific. All tickets were booked together.

  • Terminal 8 to terminal B
    Feb 8, 2016
What's the best way to get from terminal 8 to terminal b? I'm flying into LAX domestically, and have about three hours to connect to my international flight. My luggage should be checked in through to my final destination.

Yes, that should be enough time, but just to confirm, what airlines are you flying?

I'm flying with United and Asiana, but it's all booked under Asiana. I definitely have enough time, but want to know what's the best way to get from terminal 8 to B. Do I need to go outside and through security again?

There is no way to get between 7/8 and the International Terminal inside security. There is a shuttle bus on the lower level or you can walk.

  • Connecting between Terminal 6 and Terminal B
    Feb 7, 2016
I'm connecting to Air New Zealand from Alaska Air. It looks like I have to exit the Terminal, then go through security again at Terminal B. Is that correct?

    Yes, that is correct.

  • Flying from Auckland to LAX to JFK only 100 minutes layover
    Feb 7, 2016
My flight from Auckland is American Airlines that lands at Terminal 4. I will have checked bags, but the weird thing is my connecting flight to JFK is Qantas and leaves from TBIT. Since my flight is international, will there be a customs department in Terminal 4? and will my checked luggage be transferred to TBIT onto my next flight or will I have to collect and recheck it through. Both tickets were purchased together and from Qantas (since Qantas is partnered with AA). Since I only have 100 minutes, will I be able to make it to my next flight?

You will have to claim your bags to go through US customs. You may arrive in the International terminal. Your flight to JFK may be operated by AA. I don't think Qantas can carry passengers on their JFK flight that didn't arrive at LAX on Qantas.

  • Flying in on international flight to another terminal
    Feb 7, 2016
Hello! I am flying in on an international flight from London Heathrow that lands at 6:55 pm. I'm a US citizen so I'm thinking that will make the process coming back through customs quicker. Would I be able to make a flight that departs at 8:50pm on Southwest (Terminal 1, I believe)? Thanks!

What airline are you flying to LAX? Will you have checked bags?

I'm flying on air New Zealand to LAX. And I will be checking in one bag!

No, I don't think that would be possible.

  • United to Southwest
    Feb 7, 2016
I will be arriving international terminal on United, and transfer to Southwest. Can I check in my luggage at the re-check desk after customs, or I have to carry them to Southwest terminal to check in? Thanks.

You will have to take your bags to Southwest in Terminal 1 to re-check them. Also, note that the only United flights that arrive in the International Terminal are the ones from Australia. All their other International flights arrive in Terminal 7.

Thank you. I am glad I asked. That would make my life a little easier since Terminal 1 is just cross street from Terminal 7. I have about 2 hours in between flights, and am debating whether I can check bags, or just do carry-on.
