The company I work for has booked me on a flight home from Shanghai to New York connecting in LAX. I'd like to add a few days stopover in LA to visit family (on my own dime) by booking my own flight from LA to NYC and just not boarding the final leg of my Delta PVG>LAX>JFK. Am I correct in thinking that I will have to collect my checked baggage in LA to go through customs before 'continuing' on to NYC?
Yes, you will have to claim your bags in LAX to take them through US Customs.
Hi, I just realized that we only have 90 minute to transfer planes in LAX. Will that be enough time?
What airlines are you flying? Are both flights on the same reservation? Do you have checked bags?
We are on Alaska airlines and yes both flights are on same reservation. We will have bags. I talked to Alaska last night and they said that it is a 'legal' layover time so they wouldn't switch me to a later second leg without me paying a lot of money. They said both my legs will be in the same terminal given both Alaska flights and same reservation.
Arriving on Terminal 5 at 7:32 am on Delta - Departing to Costa Rica (International) at 8:35 am on Terminal 3 - Would this be sufficient time to go between terminals and check in for international flight - only have carry on
Delta no longer uses Terminal 5. You will arrive in 2 or 3. What airline are you flying to Costa Rica on?
I am arriving at 10:00 pm tomorrow evening from Boston on American airlines, and then flying to Costa Rica on at 11:44 pm on Delta. I have carry on bags only, will I be able to make my Delta flight from the American terminal?
Yes, I think you have just enough time if the first flight is on-time.
We are traveling from STL to Vancouver with a flight change in LAX. The travel agent booked the flights for us. We arrive in LAX at 10:12 AM on American Airlines. Our connecting flight is through West Jet and leaves at 11:45 at Terminal 2. Will we go through customs in STL or LAX? Will we have to go through TSA again when moving from Terminal 4 or 5 to Terminal 2? Will we have to do customs at LAX? Is that enough time to catch our flight?
There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You will go through Canadian customs when you get to Canada. You will have to go through security again in Terminal 2 in LAX. You should have just enough time.
Hi, I have a booking MAA-OGG in United. The routing is MAA-FRA-LAX-SFO-OGG and the first two segments are by Lufthansa (code share). I reach LAX by Lufthansa at 12.55pm on 14th July (Friday) and my next flight is LAX-SFO-OGG by United at 2.45pm. Do I have enough time to clear immigration, customs, re-check bags? Or should I change to 4.18pm flight. That however would give me just 45 mins connection time in SFO. Would that be enough?
Arriving Air Tahiti Nui 11 am from Tahiti, flight out on Delta to ATL to RSW has been changed to leave at 1 pm allowing only two hours. Party of 5, sitting in business on incoming flight, use mobile passport. Delta has no other viable options unless we want to sit in LAX for 12 hours.
Do I have to leave secure area and go back through security or can we drag bags from customs to gate and gate check them without having to go through security?
Will two hours be enough time?
If I change to an AA flight can I check bags directly through?
Thank you in advance for any guidance.
Yes, when you clear customs you will be outside security and will have to take them to the Delta Check in Desk in Terminal 2/3 to re-check them. You probably don't have enough time unless the flight from Tahiti arrives early. Air Tahiti Nui does not check bags through unless all flights are booked on the same reservation.
