I will be arriving at LAX Terminal 4 at 12:50 on AA and depart from Terminal B at 1500 on Saudi Airlines (2:10 hours) without checked baggage, just carry-on. Is this risky or do-able?

I think that you should have no problem making that as long as your AA flight is on-time and Domestic.

  • terminal 5 to terminal 2 -- 70 minute connection?

My family booked a flight to Honolulu through United, but the ticket has us connecting from a Delta flight that lands at 3:55 PM in terminal 5 to a Hawaiian Air flight that leaves at 5:05 PM from terminal 2. I'm assuming that because it's one ticket, our bags will be checked through, but is this enough time for us to make it? Any tips? We will be pushing our 2 year old in a stroller.

You probably have enough time to take the shuttle bus if your Delta flight is on-time. That might be faster with the kid. Otherwise it's fastest to walk straight across the parking garages from T5 to T2.

  • Virgin Australia to Virgin America 2hr connection BNE-LAX-EWR

Hello, NZ citizen flying from BNE to EWR via LAX (Mid JAN). Arrive 0630 at TBIT depart 0825 from T3 to EWR on Virgin America. All booked on one ticket via Virgin Australia. I will have 1 checked bag and chose seats as forward as possible on the BNE-LAX leg. I am hoping this is possible as it was a bookable fare what do you think?

    Yes, that should be possible.

we land from Sydney in terminal 1 at 6.25am and fly to Calgary at 8.45 on westjet teminal 2. Is this enough time? Do we have to redo security or are they in a connected terminal?

You do not arrive in Terminal 1. No International flights arrive in Terminal 1. You are probably seeing the letter I which stands for International Terminal. Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. If your bags are tagged through to YYC you will follow the signs for connecting passengers and re-check your bags at the re-check desk. Otherwise you will follow the signs for passengers ending their journey and exit the terminal, walk to your left. The second building you will come to is Terminal 2. You will go inside, check your bags if you didn't already, and then go through security. You barely have enough time.

You will not arrive in Terminal 1. You will arrive in the International Terminal. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, walk to Terminal 2 and go through security. If you are traveling on two separate reservations you will have to bring your bags with you to Terminal 2 to re-check and get your Westjet boarding passes.

  • LAX Connection to Fiji

I land on a Qantas flight from JFK at 9:05PM making a connecting flight to Fiji at 11:30PM through Fiji AIrways' codeshare w/ Qantas. Both flights should be in the BIT. I believe I will need to exit to the ticket counter to check in through Fiji Airways then go through security. Is this enough time or am I cutting it close?

    That should be enough time.

  • Transit time

Hi My flight is from Toronto into LAX at 21:05 pm into Terminal 6 on American Airlines. I then leave for Sydney (Aus) at 23:35 pm (that night) with Qantas in Terminal B. I did the same flight coming (just in reverse) and it took almost 2 hours to get through everything (picking up luggage, security etc). I am a bit concerned as the time between the two flights is just over two hours. Will this be enough time? Thank you

On your way back to Australia all you have to do in LAX is go from your arrival terminal to your departure terminal and go through security. You don't have to do anything with your baggage. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. You have plenty of time.

Thank you so much for this

  • Arrive Terminal 5, Depart Terminal 2

Hi, I arrive on Delta A/L in Terminal 5 at 0610am and depart Terminal 2 on Air Canda at 11.10 am (so plenty of connection time). How do I get from one terminal to the other...is it easy walking?

It's not an easy walk, but it's doable, especially if you cut across the parking garages. There is also a shuttle that runs on the lower level. It frequently gets stuck in traffic, which is why I don't recommend it, but as you said, you aren't in any hurry.

  • American Airlines to Air New Zealand

I'll be landing at 8:07 PM presumably at T6 and have an international flight to Sydney departing 10:30 PM from Terminal B. Will I have enough time to travel between terminals, collect luggage, check in for my international flight (hoping I can check in online and deposit bag at baggage drop - does Air NZ have that at LAX?) and go through customs?

That should be enough time if your American flight is on-time. Also. Air New Zealand doesn't fly from LAX to Sydney. Are you connecting in Auckland? If not then double check your reservation - if your flight is operated by United then you will depart from Terminal 7, not the International Terminal. Also, there is no US Customs when leaving the US.

Thanks ZAP. Yes, I will be connecting at Auckland.

OK then, yes, you will have to take your bags to the International Terminal to re-check with Air New Zealand. It's faster to walk than to take the shuttle.

Ok, great :) thanks for the tip

We are scheduled to land at 7:15 a.m. on SWA and depart at 9:30 a.m. on Allegiant Air. WE must claim bags and transfer them to Allegiant. Is there enough time?

As long as your Southwest flight is on-time that should be enough time. It will be faster to walk to Terminal 3 vs. taking the shuttle.

I am booked to travel JFK-LAX-SYD on a Delta ticket with a Virgin Australia service from LAX-SYD. Initially I booked a 1hr 50min transit but they have changed the flights and it is now a 1hr15min transit. I am assuming I will have to exit terminal 5, walk to terminal 3 and clear security and immigration? Will I have to collect and recheck my bags? Is there anyway I will make this connection or should I call Delta and try to get an earlier JFK-LAX flight?

you won't have to do anything with your bags. The Virgin Australia check in desk is in Terminal 3 but their departure gates are actually in the International Terminal. If you already have your virgin australia boarding pass you can go directly to the International Terminal and through security. You can make this connection. However since it was an involuntary schedule change, you can ask for an earlier flight and they should give it to you if you're uncomfortable.

  • Air Canada to Virgin Australia

Hello, I will be landing in LAX (from Calgary) on Air Canada (Terminal2) at 9:13pm. I then have a separate booking on Virgin Australia (international terminal) departing at 11:05pm. *1hr 50 mins between flights* I go though US customs in Calgary, so I should be able to grab my bags and go once I'm in LAX. Will I have enough time to collect my baggage, transfer to the international terminal and check my bags in with Virgin Australia? Also can you please recommend the fastest way to transfer from terminal 2 to the international terminal. Thanks!

You will have to hurry to Terminal 3 to re-check your bags before the bag cutoff. You should be able to make it as long as your flight from Calgary is on-time. Note that the Virgin Australia check-in desk is in Terminal 3 but their flights actually depart next door in the International Terminal.

Okay, good to know! Thank you so much. Think I will be better off on the earlier flight from Calgary and having an 8hr stopover, so I don't risk missing the flight to Aus - less stressful. Have a go day!

We land at 9:03 pm in LAX (from YYZ) and we depart LAX at 10:40pm (to SYD). Do you think this will be enough time? Is there a short-cut that we can take outside, instead of walking through the parking lot? Do we need to check in luggage again at LAX?

Sorry, i forgot to add: 1st flight is Air Canada (terminal 2?) and the 2nd flight is united airlines (terminal 7?). According to the LAX map, they seem to be across from each other. Thanks!

Walking through the parking lot IS the short cut. If both tickets were purchased on the same reservation you don't have to do anything with your bags at LAX as you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. You should have enough time. You will have to go through security in Terminal 7 when you get there, but it should not be too crowded at that time.

  • MELB - LAX - MEX CITY transit

Hi, I'll be flying from MEL to LAX with Qantas arriving 06:35. My next flight will then be LAX to MEX CITY with AA at 09:45. The 2 flights are on 2 different tickets. Can you confirm if 3hr10mins is sufficient time to transit?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will probably have to transfer your bags yourself to Terminal 4 to re-check with American. Terminal 4, where your American flight depart is right next to the International Terminal where you will arrive.

Hi, change of plans, hoping you can shed some light on the transit times. It looks like i'll be flying MEL to LAX with Qantas arriving 06:35. My next flight will then be LAX to MEX CITY with Aeromexico at 09:15 the same day. The flights are on 2 separate different tickets. Will 2hrs40mins be enough time to get between the two flights including transferring my bags and rechecking in?

Hi I am flying from Fiji to London next week and connecting through LAX. It is a connecting flight but changing airlines from BA to Qantas. Do you have to collect luggage and check it in again? Also have 2hours 30mins for connection and wondering is this enough time? Thank you

British Airways does not fly from Fiji to LAX and Qantas does not fly from LAX to London. Your flight from Fiji will be on Fiji Airways. I don't know what airline your flight to London is on, but I'll assume it's British Airways. Yes, when you arrive in the International Terminal you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, if your bags are tagged through to LHR you can then re-check them at the re-check desk, then get your London boarding pass and go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

  • Arriving from Mexico, flying to Manila

Hello. I will be arriving on an American Airlines flight from Mexico City at 6:50pm and departing to Manila on a Philippine Airlines flight at 9:10pm on January 1. I have never been in the LAX international airport before. Will 2hr and 20mins be enough time for my connection?

That should be just enough time. Once you clear customs you will have to hurry to the International Terminal (it's right next to Terminal 4 where you will arrive) to check-in with Philippine Airlines and then go through security.

Thank you very much for your prompt response ZAP!
