  • Which terminal does Avianca arrive at and is 2hrs enough
    Mar 28, 2016

My mother will be flying Avianca into LAX and then transferring on to United going to Sydney AU. This is all booked on one ticket. I want to write her directions on how to get between the two terminals but everytime I look at the Avianca arrivals info it never states which terminal it arrives at. I know it departs from T2 so will it arrive there? Is there immigration at T2? Once she goes through is there an option to drop bags at United or does she need to take them with her to T7? She only has 2 hours and 10 minutes in between flights and I am a bit nervous this may not be enough time Intl to Intl. But it was booked on one ticket and they state this is enough. She is arriving at night around 8pm so hoping as well it is not as busy at this time of day? Any help would be great.

She will arrive in Terminal 2, go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, and re-check her bags at the re-check desk. Then walk across the parking garages or take the lower level shuttle bus to Terminal 7, get her United boarding pass if she doesn't already have it, and go through security. It is possible.

Arriving at terminal 5 and have a tight connection. Website says Virgin Australian flight is out of terminal 3. What's the best way to get to my gate. Bags checked through

While the Virgin Australia check in desk is in Terminal 3, their flights actually depart from the international terminal. If your bags are checked through and you already have your VA boarding pass you can proceed directly to the security checkpoint in the International terminal. The fastest way there from T5 is to walk.

  • Is 1 Hour 19 Minute Layover Enough Time for Our Bags to Make Next Flig

Hi, We will be traveling out of San Jose, Ca on Delta this June going to Cancun, Mexico. Question, we land at LAX and we have an 1 hour and 19 minute Layover. Is this enough time for us and our checked bags to catch our next flight to Cancun?

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Hi, I do want to add that we are on the same ticket for the connecting flight to Cancun which is Delta.

    Thank you ZAP!

Enough time for even the bags to make the next flight/

Yes, your bags just have to be taken from one plane to the other.

    Thank you ZAP!

  • United Domestic to Intl Melbourne time

My itinerary booked on same ticket on same airline (United): United Chicago to Lax, layover 58 minutes, United LAX to Melbourne. We will most likely have 2-3 checked bags since travelling in a family of 5. Is this enough time to get on the international flight? Do we have to go through international security in LAX? What happens if the domestic flight is delayed? Will United put us on the next available flight or the next available United flight? Will we have to pay extra if we miss our flight due to domestic flight being late?

There is no such thing as "international security". All you have to do in lax is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you miss your connection you will be rebooked on the next night's flight to Melbourne with no extra charge.

  • Fly in (international) at Terminal 2 and out (United) at Terminal 8

Fly in (international) at Terminal 2 and out (United) at Terminal 8, with two heavy check-ins. Is there a United recheck-in counter in terminal 2, or I just have to drag the baggage cross the airport myself to 8? ticket purchased separately. TIA.

Since your flights are on two separate reservations you will have to take your bags with you to Terminal 7 to check with United (there are no counters in Terminal 8).

Thanks, Zap! Hypothetically, if if is in one reservation, what would be different?

Arriving with Domestic Flight from Las Vegas at T5 and then have 2 1/2 hours to get to International Terminal to catch my direct flight with KLM to Amsterdam. All on same ticket so no need to pick up luggage. is 2 1/2 hours enough? I guess so. Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time.

Traveling with a toddler in tow, will 2h40m be sufficient to make this transition? Traveling Qantas and Air Canada

That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly

  • Layover time

I have a layover at LAX in May from 11:06am to 12:15pm. I am flying with American Airlines, my connecting flight is on American Eagle. I will be going from LAX to SMF so it is a domestic flight. Will I have enough time to get to my next gate and catch my connecting flight?

Where are you flying into LAX from? If it's domestic that should be enough time. You will likely have to take the shuttle bus to the American Eagle remote terminal for your flight to Sacramento.

Is 90 minutes enough time to land in LAX coming from Newark and then catching a UA flight to Sydney?

If the flight from Newark is also on United, then yes, that is plenty of time. All you have to do in LAX is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 7.

  • T6 to T4 on American Airlines

We are traveling to Las Vegas next week with a connecting flight through LAX. We have a terminal change from T6 to T4 with a 45 min layover. What is the best (and quickest) way to go from terminal to terminal. I am traveling with a toddler so I do not want to miss our connection. Is it true that I will have to go through security again? Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

You do not have to go through security again. There is a tunnel inside security connecting T6 and T4 through T5.

Hello, My party is traveling from San Jose to Tokyo with a 45 minute connection in Los Angeles. Both legs are Delta flights but I'm worried that we will have to change terminals because the second delta flight is international. Does anyone know??

You will arrive in Terminal 5 or 6 and depart from Terminal 5. They are connected inside security by a tunnel. You have enough time.

I am flying from RDU to LAX and have a 1 hour 50 minute connection to Sydney on Virigin Australia. Can I check my bags all the way through and is that enough time?

What airline are you flying to LAX? Are your tickets on one reservation or two separate reservations? I can't answer your question without that information.

  • Layover

I will arrive from BNE on Virgin Australia and departing Delta at T5 (all booked on one ticket), there is only a 2 hr layover...will that be enough time

That is barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Departure/ Arrival gates

How can I find out arrival and departure gates for flights in June? They are not on my E-tickets. Coming from Anchorage to Portland to LAX then on to Atlanta. All Delta flights.

Almost all Delta flights use Terminal 5. A small number of flights use Terminal 6, which is connected to Terminal 5 by a tunnel inside security.

I've got a midweek AA flight arriving 7:37 pm at Terminal 6 and 11:20 pm departure to Brisbane Australia on Qantas. Is that enough time to transfer luggage, check-in and the TSA recheck?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

They moved my lax depart time on my return flight. What about a 6:30 am inbound from Brisbane and outboard at 10:05 from term 6? That route back adds in customs / immigration to the mix.

Yes, that should be fine too.

Last question. My AA domestic flights are partners with my Qantas, therefore AA has their own flight numbers associated with my Qantas flights ( flight QF 16 on Qantas is also listed as AA 7409). It would be great to be able to use the AA flight number on my Qantas booked flight and avoid the whole checked bag handling/ checkin and TSA mess at LAX. Is that even possible? (The Qantas booking part was included in the complete vacation package where LAX was the only departing airport I could use)

In Nashville you should be able to show your Qantas confirmation to the AA agent and get your bags checked to Brisbane, although they are not obligated to. On the way back they could do the same, but you would still have to claim your bags in LAX to go through US Customs, the only difference is that you could then re-check them at the re-check desk in the International Terminal right after customs vs. having to take them to Terminal 4 or 6 to re-check.

    Thanks for all your help
