  • Transferring terminal 5 LAX to TBIT
    Aug 4, 2016

PHX-LAX (Delta)-FCO (Alitalia). Single ticket, checking bags in PHX. Layover is 100 minutes. Enough time? How is the tunnel form terminal 4 to TBIT?

Yes, that should be enough time. The connector from T4 to the TBIT is actually above ground is apparently quite nice. T5 to T4 is a tunnel.

Will that person have to go through security again in TBIT, or is all that within the secure area?

  • Transfer from lax international to domestic

Hi !!! I am flying with Fiji airways to lax international and have connecting flight to sfo domestic where do I need to recheck my bags n how do I get to domestic terminal for American airline

If you purchased two separate reservations you will have to take your bags with you to Terminal 4 to re-check them with American. You just walk there from the International Terminal where you arrive.

    It's connecting flight

OK, then you can drop them at the re-check desk in the TBIT before walking to T4 to go through security.

  • HA HNL/LAX AND SW LAX/BWI

I realize that HA will not check my luggage through from HNL to BWI. I am thinking of booking a flight that gives me 2 hr 55 min in LAX. The HA terminal and SW are next to each other. Is that a possible connecting time? Thank you

Yes, that should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Transferring in LAX from YVR to Maui

Hello, we are travelling from YVR to Maui and have to change in LAX. We fly on WestJet from YVR to LAX, arriving Terminal 2, and leave Terminal 5 3 hours later from LAX to Maui on Delta. Westjet and Delta are 'affiliated' and are therefore booked on one ticket. I realize we clear US Customs in YVR, but what is the transfer process from Terminal 2 to 5? Do we go through customs/security again? Do we have to leave the physical building? Do we need to pick up and recheck our bags? How much time should we allow?

Yes, in LAX, you will leave Terminal 2 and walk or take the shuttle to Terminal 5 then go through security and to your departure gate. You don't have to do anything with your bags. You have enough time.

  • Connecting flight from London to Hawaii via LAX

Hello, I have booked a flight from London Heathrow which is to arrive at 2:30pm in LAX Terminal 2. My connecting flight is from LAX Terminal 5 at 5:00pm. As I've understood, I will need to collect my check-in luggage and then re-check it for my connecting flight. Will that above time frame be adequate to do this? Is the process of re-checking in quicker somehow or is it basically just like a brand new flight? Many thanks in advance! Gavin

Yes, that should be enough time. If your bags are tagged to your final destination you can drop them at the re-check desk in Terminal 2 rather than having to take them with you to Terminal 5. Also, Virgin should be able to issue both boarding passes in London.

Thank you very much! Hope you have a nice day!

  • the tunnel is hard to find!

I had an hour and a half between a domestic flight and an international flight and was concerned about the timing. LAX told me there was a tunnel but not many signs and to just ask someone. I saw NO signs; in fact I saw signs saying to take the shuttle which I didn't have time for. I asked 6 different employees who all said there was no tunnel!! I almost gave up but knew I would miss my flight leaving security. I finally stumbled across it and barely made my flight! When you get to T6 just find a way to get down a floor. The map I saw made it look like it was many floors down but it's just one. It was easy to take it all the way to the T4 elevator but no sign to say which floor to take. I finally found someone who knew which floor TBIT was. (sorry I can't remember to tell you, maybe just up one). Hope this is helpful. Don't expect help from signage or employees at LAX; they never got the memo!! But it did allow me to make my flight though harried, so I'm grateful.

  • Sufficient time for transfer

Hi there,my husband will arrive in LAX from Incheon at 9:50am. I'm planning to book his ticket from LAX to Flagstaff,AZ at 12:35pm. Will it be sufficient time for him to transfer?(new immigrant status). And which terminal will he arrive ( from ICN- Asiana airlines) to Flagstaff (American Airlines). Thanks

He will arrive in the International Terminal and depart from Terminal 6. (there are no nonstops from LAX to Flagstaff so I'm guessing that he is connecting in Phoenix) That is just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Thanks for your reply. Yes,he'll have a connecting flight to Phoenix then to flagstaff. Hopefully everything goes smoothly. Will you recommend to boom his ticket?Which terminal will go to for PHX of AA?

AA has check in and gates in both Terminals 4 and 6. It appears the 12:30 flight usually leaves from Terminal 4, but that is subject to change.

  • Transfer TBIT to Terminal 1

I am flying in from Auckland and transferring to Southwest. I will have to recheck bags. i have Global Entry which also gives me TSA PreCheck. My layover at LAX is 2 hours and 10 minutes. I arrive from Auckland at 11:30 am. Is my layover adequate? Thanks.

With Global Entry you have a chance. However, your main enemy is the bag check cutoff in T1.

    Thanks.

  • transfer at lax to Toronto

Hi, I am arriving at LAX on United UA99 @ 6:45am from Australia, then departing to Toronto via Air Canada @ 9:40am. I am not sure of the process. Is this enough time? Also what time would it take to walk to terminal 2 from terminal 7, or should I take the shuttle? Thanks

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check them at the re-check desk, then exit the international terminal and walk to your left against the flow of traffic. The second building you come to will be Terminal 2, go inside and go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

  • Enough time to clear customs and check into diff airline

My flight from NRT to LAX get s in at 10:20 am on United Airlines ,my departure flight is with Delta at 12:30pm will I have enough time to clear customs and check into a diff airline in that time frame?

With checked bags, I don't think that's realistically enough time. Without checked bags it's barely possible if everything goes smoothly and you check in for your Delta flight before leaving Japan.

  • SAN to LAX to MSY
    Jul 28, 2016

Hi! I have a 2 hour layover in Los Angeles (LAX) from San Diego (SAN) on my way to New Orleans (MSY). I am a US citizen flying Delta and everything is domestic. I plan on checking in 1 luggage. When I arrive at LAX, will my check-in luggage be directed straight to my next plane to MSY, or will I have to pick up my check-in luggage at the carousel and check it in again? If the latter, will 2 hours be enough time for me to catch my flight? Also, will I have to go through security again at LAX? Thank you in advance!

You don't have to do anything with your bags in LAX. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

  • From DOH to SAN Via LAX

Hi there, i'm travelling from Doha to LAX by Qatar airways and I have a connecting flight to San diego on American Airlines. . I arrive in LAX at 14:05 at terminal 2 and depart for my second flight at 16:40 in terminal 6. In one ticket and with checked bags. What are the steps I have to go through to get to my second flight. Including the immigration and customs and what is involved in that process. Is 2:35 hours enough to catch my second flight?

You will go through US Immigration, (you hand over forms and show your passport), claim your bags, go through US Customs (hand over more forms), re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go to Terminal 6 (fastest way is to walk straight across the parking garages), then go through security and to your departure gate, which will require taking a shuttle bus to the American Eagle Remote Terminal.

Also, you should have just enough time.

  • LAX to Aucklund to Queenstown
    Jul 29, 2016

Leaving with ski gear to Queenstown, via Auckland on Air NZ. Have never been in LAX Intl terminal. What time should make the queue for a 1030pm departure? In Aucklund, will I need to go thru customs first, then get my bags to re-check to Queenstown? Or, do I collect my bags, to go thru customs and the re-check? I'm on Air NZ the whole way.....thank you.

I would plan on arriving at the airport at about 7:30-8 PM. Sorry, I don't know anything about the procedures in Auckland, but Air New Zealand is a pretty efficient airline and it's a well-liked airport, so it can't be too confusing.

Hey! I live in NZ close to Queenstown , the deal is that due to a lot of bio security reason in here .you hav to clear immigration , then customs then biosec. You will arrive at Auck int, clear all above and then go to the domestic terminal . There is a shuttle or a 10-15 min walk in between terminals. And even if you have the same ticket you must collect your bags and recheck them in the domestic terminal.

  • Transiting through LAX from Los Cabos (MEX) to Auckland (NZ)
    Aug 2, 2016

I will be arriving at LAX on AA in October 10 at 18:45 from Los Cabos (México), then departing on Air New Zealand to Auckland at 22:30. I think both flights arrive to and depart from TBIT. The ticket are on separate reservations, which means I will have to re-check them at the ANZ desk. Considering this layover of almost 4 hours, will I have enough time to clear immigration and customs, check in my luggage at the counter and go through security into the boarding area? I'm considering re-booking my flight so that I arrive at LAX at 14:38 h.

I will have to re-check my baggage with Air New Zealand

Your flight from Los Cabos could arrive in Terminal 4 or the TBIT. You should have plenty of time.

Thank you very much for your prompt answer. I think I'll travel with just carry on luggage. If I manage to check in online, so that I don't have to re-check with ANZ, and if my flight on AA arrives at T4, do I have to leave security zone to transfer to TBIT? How long does it take to go from T4 to TBIT?
