  • SFO to LAX to Heathrow connection
    Feb 6, 2015
I am flying American from SFO to LAX arriving at Terminal 4 at 2:22 pm tomorrow. I need to connect to my American (British Airways) flight at 4:10 pm out of International. Will I have enough time - do I have to get my luggage and re-check in at the terminal?? Or can I check my luggage through to Heathrow form SFO?

If you purchased your tickets together your bags will automatically be transferred to British Airways and you should be issued both boarding passes in SFO. All you have to do is walk from T4 to the International Terminal and go through security. They are building a secure area walkway from T4 to the International Terminal but it isn't finished yet.

Yes my tickets are on the same itinerary. Thank you SO much for taking the time to answer my question! This is very helpful and reassuring, now I don't have to jam everything into a carry-on for a one-week trip! You rock!

  • ASAP Questionï¼› change from terminal 3 to terminal B
    Feb 5, 2015
i am taking vergin america first arrive in LAX in terminal 3 at 8:05 am , and i have a connecting flight in terminal B depart at 9:40am . will that be enough time for me to get my two checked baggage and connect to the next flight? thank y'all so much

Yes, that should be enough time, assuming your first flight is on-time. It doesn't leave much to spare if you are delayed though as most check-in counters in the International Terminal close an hour before the flight.

  • Arriving by United, then travelling by southwest
    Feb 3, 2015
Hi. I am travelling by United airlines from Honlulu to LAX and arriving at 5 Am. I then need to catch the next flight at 7:20 AM by southwest. I will need to collect the baggage and then drop it off at southwest. I will check in online for southwest. but bagge will still need to be collected and dropped. Will that be enough time to go from one terminal to the other and make the connection.

I think that will be barely enough time. The fastest way between T7 and T1 is to walk straight across.

I will be arriving at LAX on Southwest (Term 1) and will have approximately 1.45 hours to get to Terminal 4, obtain my new tickets for outbound flight, and get though security before my flight departs. Will I have time?

You will be very hurried and it depends on your Southwest flight arriving on-time.

Thank you! I booked my flight to LAX from Southwest and then my outbound flight from LAX was booked on Orbitz. Do you know if I will have to gather my baggage at baggage claim after arriving at LAX on Southwest and then get over to Term 4 get my tickets and check my bags again with the new airline? Or is there any type of 'check though" to avoid this? Does this change your opinion any on whether I would have enough time to catch my departing flight?

Southwest does not check bags through to any other airline. You can check in online for your American flight from Terminal 4 before you depart on your Southwest flight. However, you will still have to collect your bags from Terminal 1 and take them to Terminal 4 and check them at the counter. It is still a very difficult connection.

  • Arriving Southwest; Departing United
    Feb 1, 2015
Hello - need a consult please. With no checked bags and boarding passes in hand, plus we can walk reasonably fast can we make a 40 minute connection between where ever Southwest lands and United departs? How much time to hoof it? Does this involve leaving and re-entering security?

It's not realistically possible. You have to go through security again in T7. Under ideal circumstances it may be possible. But I wouldn't bank on it.

  • International terminal to T5 for Delta connection
    Feb 2, 2015
I am very nervous about my connection at LAX. I arrive on Virgin Australia at 6.60 AM (TBIT) and need to catch a Dalta connection to Boston at 9.15 AM from Terminal 5. What are my chances of making this, if flights are on schedule? Also How would I get to T5 (if I have check in luggage)? Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Sorry. Arrival time should read 6.30 AM.

Yes that should be plenty of time. Just walk from the TBIT to T5

    Many thanks....much appreciated indeed.

  • Connectin NZ2 TBIT
    Feb 1, 2015
Hi there, I'm arriving NZ2 AKL/LAX arriving 2pm, departing NZ2 LAX/LHR 4pm. Staff travel ticket so will have to clear customs and security. Can I make this connection?

Yes. That should be enough time.

  • SW to Virgin America
    Jan 29, 2015
SW flight arrives at 3:30 and virgin flight departs at 4:45. I will not have any checked bags. Is this enough time between flights?

Yes, if you check in online for your Virgin America flight and your first flight is on-time you should have enough time. It will take about 10 minutes to walk from T1 to T3.

  • 35 Min Layover
    Jan 29, 2015
I have a 35 min layover from LAX to Sacramento. Is that even enough time?! Please help

What airline or airlines are you flying? Where are you flying from? I need more information to answer your question.

From Las Vegas to LAX for a 35 min layover to Sacramento

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 5.

Thank you so so much! What a relief. I have never been to LAX

  • Terminal 5 to TBIT alone with toddler
    Jan 28, 2015
Hi all, I will be traveling with my 20 months old daughter next month, ALONE! From Minneapolis to Taipei via Los Angeles. A total of 24 hours trip, argh! I've been doing a lot of research on how to make this trip as smooth as possible. One of my fear is how to navigate through the LAX airport. We are on Delta flight, MSP to LAX, arriving into Terminal 5 at 11:30 am. Then we have to proceed to TBIT to catch China airline flight departing at 2:30 pm. One thing to point out is, I bought these 2 tickets separately. Since Delta and China Airline are both Sky team members. I am praying they will check my luggage all the way to Taipei. I talked to agents from both airlines, they said technically it's doable, but depends on airport ticketing agent's mood of the day, hmm? Assuming I have to re-check my luggage, that will leave me with one luggage, one carry-on backpack, one stroller and one toddler. Here is what I image the process would be. Arrive into Terminal 5. Find a luggage cart, put stroller and toddler on the cart, proceed to collect my luggage, push them out of terminal 5, then we should be on a big concrete walkway that connects the terminals. Should I then take the shuttle or walk? Once arrive TBIT, we will first check in with China Airline ticketing counter, which I think it's on the same level as the concrete walkway and shuttle. Then, we will proceed to go through international departure security check. Did I miss anything? Also, one of the thing I remember about LAX airport is stairs, many up and down to go to different places. Base on my description, can anyone foresee any obstacles ahead of me? Thank you all in advance, any suggestion will be much appreciated!

Yes, you have the process correct. The only stairs you will have to go down are from the arrival level in T5 to the lower level where you will collect your baggage (and I'm fairly sure there is an elevator somewhere if you look for it).

Thank you for your reply! Do you happen to know if the luggage cart has "toddler seat" on it? Like the shopping cart at the grocery store.

    They do not.

  • Terminal 1 to TBIT
    Jan 26, 2015
I am arriving at 8.10AM on Southwest Airlines at Terminal 1, I have one checked bag and one carry on. My flight for Hong Kong leaves at 9.40AM from TBIT (Tom Brady International), will I make the check-in and flight? What's the fastest way to get between the two terminals? Any help would be greatly appreciated, trying to avoid getting a flight the day before.

That will be difficult. You might not get your bags until 8:30 or so even if your flight is on-time. Then it's 5 to 10 minutes on the shuttle or walking to the International Terminal. The bag cutoff for most international flights is one hour so everything really needs to go perfectly in order for you to make this connection. I would fly in the night before.

  • From t7 to tb
    Jan 26, 2015
Hi, what would be the fastest way to get from t7 to terminal B flight details for this evening .... UA 822V 26JAN IADLAX HK1 454P 750P * NZ 5B 26JAN LAXAKL HK1 1000P 800A2*

The fastest way is to walk. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Your bags should be transferred automatically and you should be issued both boarding passes in Washington DC. You will have to go through security again in the International Terminal.

    Thank you very sir!

  • SMF to LAX connection to CDG
    Jan 26, 2015
This is my first International trip. Any advice would be VERY much appreciated!!! In mid-Feb, I check in at SMF to board Skywest DBA Delta Connection to LAX, have a 1h 35m layover at LAX, then board Air France to CDG. 1.) Is a 1.5 hour layover enough time to make the Air France flight at LAX? 2.) How can I confirm the Terminal AIr France is at - Terminal 2 or the International Terminal? 3.) Do I exit the security area of Delta, and go through security again for Air France? 4.) Is it best to walk/run to the Air France terminal, or take the shuttle bus? Again, thank you so much for this amazing forum and any assistance!

Air France uses the International Terminal. Upon arrival in Terminal 5, you will exit the terminal and walk to your left. The second building you come to will be the international terminal. You should have been issued both boarding passes in Sacramento. it is fastest to walk between terminals. You will have to go through security again in the International Terminal. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to answer my questions!

  • Southwest Terminal to Air New Zealand Terminal
    Jan 26, 2015
Arriving LAX on Southwest at 3:35 PM and departing Air New Zealand 7:45 PM; will that be enough time to collect luggage and re-check in; and what is the quickest way to get from Southwest Luggage to Air New Zealand check in. Thanks for the help.

Yes, that should be enough time. The quickest method to get from T1 to the International terminal is to walk. You will just exit T1 and walk to the right and keep going until you run into the big modern building at the end of the U.

  • Help in LAX Southwest to Qantas
    Jan 26, 2015
Hi, I did not purchase my tickets together and I was wondering is there a way to get a baggage transfer from the southwest terminal to the Qantas terminal? If not is there a golf cart or rental for something like this?

No, Southwest does not transfer bags to any other airline. There are no golf carts. You can either carry your bags to the shuttle bus or buy a foldable luggage cart and pack it in your checked luggage and push your bags to the International Terminal.
