I am flying in by Qantas 747 to arrive at 0600hrs. AA have just informed me my later flight to LAS has been brought forward to 0810hrs. Given the new Airside link, what is the procedure. I am a Gold Qantas flyer so should have acces to priority security?
You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then you can go through the new security checkpoint in the connector building and walk to your departure gate, which may be in Terminal 4 or 6.
Great, so I don't have to drag my bags with me. So that means I stay airside?
No, you will technically not be airside after you clear customs.
Hi everyone! It's a long story but I wound up with this train wreck of a flight plan due to foreign tour companies booking flights and booking flights home before booking flights out. It will all sound crazy but please bear with me.

Next month, I arrive at LAX from Beijing at 11:00 AM on a Friday (the tour company changed the flight to land later than originally scheduled). On the same day, I am jumping on another flight out to Europe at 01:45 PM (I previously had a longer layover before the tour company changed that first flight).

I am able to check in for my Europe flight online and have access to my boarding pass but I will have checked baggage and they are completely separate airlines.

My questions that follow - Is this a reasonable amount of time (2h45m) to literally turn around in the airport and make my Europe flight? There are a few later flights but I am hesitant to pay a change fee right now. On average, how long does it take to clear Customs/Immigrations and collect your baggage?

Thank you so much!
It's possible, especially if the Europe flight also departs from the International Terminal.
I am flying from via Alaska SEA to LAX which arrives at 9:40pm in Terminal 6 then flying to Tahiti via Air Tahiti at 11:40pm at the international terminal. I don't plan on checking in luggage. Is a 2 hour layover long enough? Will we need to go through security again? We booked our ticket through Expedia.
You likely won't be able to get your Air Tahiti Nui boarding passes until you get to LAX. So you'll have to run to the Air Tahiti Nui ticket counter in the International Terminal and then go through security.
Thanks for your response, if we have to go back through security will two hours be enough time?
Yes, it should be just enough time.
We are flying to Newark airport from Sydney and have a stopover at LAX. Both flights are with United airlines so do we need to collect out checked luggage and check it in for the second leg or not.
Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then walk to Terminal 7 and go through security and to your departure gate.
I am flying from Detroit at 557pm and landing in LAX AT 820pm, do I have to claim my baggage and recheck them in to fly to Sydney Australia at 9:55pm
What airlines are you flying? Are both flights on the same reservation?
Delta airlines for both but my LAX to SYD says it's operated by Virgin australia
Yes both flights are on same reservation
Then all you have to do is walk from Terminal 5 where you arrive to the International Terminal where you depart. You can now do that inside security by taking the tunnel to Terminal 4 and then the new connector building to the International Terminal.
But I don't have to recheck my bags bec my next flight would be to australia (leaving the US) ?
No, there is no US Customs when leaving the US. You go through Australian customs when you get to Australia.
Okay so when I check my bag in, in Detroit it will go through all the way to australia with me?
Yes, that is correct.
I'd like to book a Singapore Airlines LAX to NRT that departs at 10am, I'd be arriving on a United flight from SFO that arrives in LAX at 7:30AM is that enough time or just to chancey (Monday in April) I have a Global Entry card if that would make a difference.
i should add no checked luggage, just a carry on
Yes, that should be enough time. If you are able to check in online for your Singapore flight, you can now walk from T7/8 where you arrive all the way to the International Terminal inside security.
Thanks for your prompt reply and info! sometimes plans change.... now taking a Southwest flight OAK to LAX (arriving LAX (8:30am) and taking a JAL flight departing 1:20pm so timing should not be a problem. question is will I be able to go from Terminal 1 (Southwest) to Intl. Ter. inside security zone also?
Thanks.
My mom is traveling from New York to LAX arriving today at 10:40am PST with American Airlines, having to make a connection with LAN PERU at the International Terminal at 12:00pm PST. She has to claim for her baggage from American Airlines to make the check in with LAN. Is there a way to make that faster, or does she have to pass immigrations? Is there a connection between those two terminals? Please help, my mom doesn't speak English and we king of lost.
THANKS
If both flights are on the same reservation then she can just walk from her arrival gate to her departure gate. If it's two separate reservations, she will claim her bags from AA in T4, carry them next door to the International Terminal and re-check them with LAN and go through security. There is no US Immigration when leaving the US.
I am flying into LAX via United Airlines at approx. 6:45am and have to proceed through customs to the Southwest terminal for a connector flight. We have carry on luggage so I am curious how much time would be required for this. I booked a 8:45am flight and forgot about the customs clearance.
That's just enough time if the United flight arrives on-time and the immigration lines are short and you have already checked in online for your southwest flight before leaving [presumably] Australia.
Similar flight Virgin from Syd to Lax 6.30 land then Tx to Delta T5 for Vancouver for 10am depart Is this enough time considering Delta is an international flight
Yes, that is enough time. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk if they're tagged to YVR, then walk to T5 and go through security.
Hi,
I will be flying on a Virgin Australia flight arriving into LAX at 630am.
My next flight is with Virgin America which departs at 925am to Cancun. Keep in mind they were booked separately and are not on the same ticket.
Would 3 hours be sufficient to go through customs, collect my bags then check into virgin America?
We are flying business class so checking in on the second leg will be a bit quicker?
Yes, that should be enough time. There likely won't be much of a check-in line anyway but it will save you time at security in Terminal 3.
