  • Sydney to Chicago

I'm a first time flyer and flying United in June to LAX with a stopover of 6.30 am -9 am. I will have checked luggage and want to know if I have enough time to connecting flight. What happens with Luggage,Customs and which gates do I go to? Thanks.I'm glad I found this site.

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, follow signs for connecting passengers, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then exit the international terminal and walk to your right (with the flow of traffic). The fourth building you come to will be Terminal 7, go inside and through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

This is a great site for travel advice especially a first time traveller like me.Many thanks as the travel agent gave me no info at all and actually told me my bags would automatically go on to Chicago plus the UA site said otherwise.

  • American Eagle gate 44 to terminal 6.
    Apr 1, 2016
I arrive at 1:30 pm today at American Eagle remote terminal. Does the shuttle bus only go to main terminal 4 or can I get to terminal 6 for an Alaska Flight at 2:30pm? Flights booked separately

I believe there is a shuttle bus to Terminal 6. However, if you have checked bags you will have to go to Terminal 4 to claim them, in which case you don't have enough time for this connection.

  • Connecting flight to san fran
    Apr 1, 2016
I arrive into la at 9:05 and have booked a flight with american airlines at 12:02. Will that be enough time for me to make the flight?

What airline are you flying on the first flight? Where are you coming from? I can't answer your question without that info.

  • SYD-LAX-EWR:Terminal B to Terminal 7 connection
    Mar 30, 2016
Hi there, my girlfriend is flying into LAX terminal B at 6.20am by United and has to transfer to terminal 7 for the remainder of the United trip to Newark at 8am. Is 1hr40minutes enough? What tricks should she know for getting through customs/rechecking bags as quickly as possible?! thanks!!!

Just move as fast as she can and walk to Terminal 7, don't wait for the shuttle. If she misses her connection to Newark there will be other flights they can rebook her on.

  • Do we have enough time to make connection
    Mar 30, 2016
We are flying Delta 1655 Atl-LAX which is supposed to arrive at 2:05pm, with a connecting flight on Singapore airlines departing at 3:45. Is there enought time to make this connection (carryon bags only).

Yes, it's enough time if your flight from Atlanta is on-time and you run. You will arrive in Terminal 5. You can take a tunnel to Terminal 4 and then a walkway inside security to the Singapore gate in the International Terminal. If you don't already have your boarding pass you will have to get it from the gate.

  • T2 to T1
    Mar 30, 2016
I believe that I will be arriving at T2 on Hawaiian Airlines at 6:35am and suppose to depart on Southwest (T1 I think) at 8:35 am. I can check in online. If we can keep our luggage to just carry-ons, will this be enough time to change gates. Will I have to go through security again since I am changing terminals?

Yes, you will have to go through security again in T1. Yes, that should be enough time if you do everything you say.

  • Terminal 2 to TBIT With Toddler in Less Than 3 Hours?
    Mar 29, 2016
My wife, toddler and mother-in-law will be flying from Montreal to LAX next month on Air Canada. They will go through US customs and immigration at Montreal airport, arrive at terminal 2, and have 2 hours and 50 minutes to make it to terminal B for their Air New Zealand flight to Auckland. Besides the toddler, they have plenty of luggage. Can anyone out there help with with the following questions? (1) Will their luggage be checked straight through to New Zealand from Canada? (2) Is there an outgoing immigration process they'll have to tackle once in LAX? (3) What's the best way, given the circumstances (baby, possibly five suitcases), of getting from terminal 2 to TBIT/terminal B? Thanks so much!

Yes, if all tickets are on the same reservation their bags will be transferred for them at LAX. There is no US Immigration when leaving the US. All they have to do is walk from T2 to the TBIT and go through security.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, ZAP. I really appreciate the advice. Chris

  • Domestic to International
    Mar 28, 2016
I'm flying into LAX domestic from SLC and then taking a Norwegian Air flight to Sweden. They are on 2 different tickets. Originally I gave myself a 4 hr layover, but Delta changed their flight, so now I only have 1 hr 45 minutes. Is this enough time with only carry-on luggage? From what I've read it looks like there is now a way to get from T4 to the International terminal without going through security again. Is this true?

Yes, there is now a way to get from T4 to the International Terminal inside security, but you will need to be already checked in for your Norwegian flight. I would call Delta and ask for an earlier flight to LAX personally.

  • Which terminal does Avianca arrive at and is 2hrs enough
    Mar 28, 2016
My mother will be flying Avianca into LAX and then transferring on to United going to Sydney AU. This is all booked on one ticket. I want to write her directions on how to get between the two terminals but everytime I look at the Avianca arrivals info it never states which terminal it arrives at. I know it departs from T2 so will it arrive there? Is there immigration at T2? Once she goes through is there an option to drop bags at United or does she need to take them with her to T7? She only has 2 hours and 10 minutes in between flights and I am a bit nervous this may not be enough time Intl to Intl. But it was booked on one ticket and they state this is enough. She is arriving at night around 8pm so hoping as well it is not as busy at this time of day? Any help would be great.

She will arrive in Terminal 2, go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, and re-check her bags at the re-check desk. Then walk across the parking garages or take the lower level shuttle bus to Terminal 7, get her United boarding pass if she doesn't already have it, and go through security. It is possible.

  • Virgin Australian
    Mar 28, 2016
Arriving at terminal 5 and have a tight connection. Website says Virgin Australian flight is out of terminal 3. What's the best way to get to my gate. Bags checked through

While the Virgin Australia check in desk is in Terminal 3, their flights actually depart from the international terminal. If your bags are checked through and you already have your VA boarding pass you can proceed directly to the security checkpoint in the International terminal. The fastest way there from T5 is to walk.

  • Is 1 Hour 19 Minute Layover Enough Time for Our Bags to Make Next Flig
    Mar 28, 2016
Hi, We will be traveling out of San Jose, Ca on Delta this June going to Cancun, Mexico. Question, we land at LAX and we have an 1 hour and 19 minute Layover. Is this enough time for us and our checked bags to catch our next flight to Cancun?

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Hi, I do want to add that we are on the same ticket for the connecting flight to Cancun which is Delta.

    Thank you ZAP!

Enough time for even the bags to make the next flight/

Yes, your bags just have to be taken from one plane to the other.

    Thank you ZAP!

  • United Domestic to Intl Melbourne time
    Mar 26, 2016
My itinerary booked on same ticket on same airline (United): United Chicago to Lax, layover 58 minutes, United LAX to Melbourne. We will most likely have 2-3 checked bags since travelling in a family of 5. Is this enough time to get on the international flight? Do we have to go through international security in LAX? What happens if the domestic flight is delayed? Will United put us on the next available flight or the next available United flight? Will we have to pay extra if we miss our flight due to domestic flight being late?

There is no such thing as "international security". All you have to do in lax is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you miss your connection you will be rebooked on the next night's flight to Melbourne with no extra charge.

  • Fly in (international) at Terminal 2 and out (United) at Terminal 8
    Mar 28, 2016
Fly in (international) at Terminal 2 and out (United) at Terminal 8, with two heavy check-ins. Is there a United recheck-in counter in terminal 2, or I just have to drag the baggage cross the airport myself to 8? ticket purchased separately. TIA.

Since your flights are on two separate reservations you will have to take your bags with you to Terminal 7 to check with United (there are no counters in Terminal 8).

Thanks, Zap! Hypothetically, if if is in one reservation, what would be different?

  • Transit Time
    Mar 25, 2016
Arriving with Domestic Flight from Las Vegas at T5 and then have 2 1/2 hours to get to International Terminal to catch my direct flight with KLM to Amsterdam. All on same ticket so no need to pick up luggage. is 2 1/2 hours enough? I guess so. Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • MEL - LAX connection to LAX-YYZ

Traveling with a toddler in tow, will 2h40m be sufficient to make this transition? Traveling Qantas and Air Canada

That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly
