I am flying into LAX via United Airlines at approx. 6:45am and have to proceed through customs to the Southwest terminal for a connector flight. We have carry on luggage so I am curious how much time would be required for this. I booked a 8:45am flight and forgot about the customs clearance.
That's just enough time if the United flight arrives on-time and the immigration lines are short and you have already checked in online for your southwest flight before leaving [presumably] Australia.
Similar flight Virgin from Syd to Lax 6.30 land then Tx to Delta T5 for Vancouver for 10am depart Is this enough time considering Delta is an international flight
Yes, that is enough time. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk if they're tagged to YVR, then walk to T5 and go through security.
Hi,
I will be flying on a Virgin Australia flight arriving into LAX at 630am.
My next flight is with Virgin America which departs at 925am to Cancun. Keep in mind they were booked separately and are not on the same ticket.
Would 3 hours be sufficient to go through customs, collect my bags then check into virgin America?
We are flying business class so checking in on the second leg will be a bit quicker?
Yes, that should be enough time. There likely won't be much of a check-in line anyway but it will save you time at security in Terminal 3.
I land at terminal 1 on Sat 1/21 at 7:45 am - leave Delta terminal 5 at 10:50 am - is this enough time to go back through security?
Yes, that should be enough time if the Southwest flight is on-time.
what is the quickest way to get from terminal 1 to 5
Walking and the shuttle are about the same - see how traffic is moving on the lower level and decide.
I have booked a flight for a Saturday in August from CUN to HNL via LAX all on one ticket with United. Land in LAX at 5:50pm and depart at 7:00pm. Is 70 mins enough time for a non US citizen (not sure if that matters) to make the connecting flight? Do we need to clear customs? We will have checked in bags - will they be automatically routed to HNL or do they need to be collected and rechecked etc?

Still within the 24 hours of booking so have 12 hours yet to cancel if need be.

Thank you!
That will be very difficult. You will arrive in Terminal 7, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate.
Thank you for your reply. So the bags won't be automatically sent onto HNL even though it's the same ticket all booked direct with United?

Also the same question for the way there. Land from Australia at 6:00am in HNL then onto CUN via LAX at 1:05pm with only a 90 min layover in LAX - since we clear immigration at HNL first is 90 mins between HNL flight landing and CUN flight leaving enough - this was booked direct with American Airlines?

Why do they suggest these options if there's not enough time to make them?

Thank you again.
No, you have to claim your bags in order to take them through US Customs at your point of entry. Yes, on the way to Cancun 90 minutes is enough as there is no US Customs when leaving the US - you just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
Thank you again - we've cancelled the CUN - LAX - HNL with 70 mins lay over. Just to check before we book the new return is 3hrs 50mins in LAX between CUN & HNL ok? Cheers!
Yes, that is plenty of time.
Coming into LAX from Australia at 6:30 AM. Need to connect on AA flight to Arizona, which leaves at 9:30 AM. Can my baggage be transferred to the AA domestic Flight, or do I need to claim it first and recheck it at AA counter? Is there enough time to make the connection from BIT to AA in Terminal 4?
What airline are you flying from Australia?
Whether separate ticket or not you still need to have your baggage at LAX for customs.Once clear you should be able to recheck. They should be able to tag your bag through but it will still come out at baggage claim at LAX.After Customs there will be a drop off pou=int.
However if the bags are not tagged to Arizona he has to take the bags to T4 to re-check them. He can't use the drop off point in the International Terminal. If he is flying Delta or Virgin Australia from Australia they can't interline the bags to AA and United is able to but not obligated to if it's two separate reservations.
I have flights on United and Air China, booked separately. What is the best route between terminal 7 and the international terminal? How long will it take?
The best way is to walk, it takes 10-15 minutes.
I'm going domestic to international on two separate flights (different airlines, different bookings)- in other words, I made my own arrangements, and when I check in, I go SFO-LAX. Then LAX to Japan. My layover is over 5 hours.

When I check in the first airline, I was told by them that I tell them my final destination, and they will check it all the way thru.

Will they actually transfer the bag in LAX (so I don't have to exit terminal, go to baggage claim and recheck bag at second airline) even though the second "leg" isn't really a leg, but a separate flight NOT with them?
Also, I would have boarding pass in hand because I plan to check in online for both flights.
It's up the the check-in agent of the first airline. What airlines are you flying?
Hi I am looking to a flight from Toronto to Auckland NZ on Air Canada and Air NZ., which connects at LAX. What is the customs/luggage procedure? Do we go through US customs in Toronto or at LAX
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in LAX is walk from T2 where you arrive to the International Terminal where you depart, and then go through security.
Hi All,

I am looking to book flights - Melbourne, Australia to Vancouver, Canada, which go via LAX. The Qantas flight arrives into Terminal B at 06:35am and the connecting flight (WestJet / shared as QF flight) departs Terminal 2 at 08:45am.

Having never been through LAX before, is 2 hours enough time to collect my bag and get my connecting flight?

Thanks
That should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.
