  • TBIT to T4

My mom is arriving from NRT to LAX with AA (the e-ticket says terminal B I guess it's TBIT) And then she has a domestic flight LAX to RNO with AA also (terminal 4). Will she be able to get to terminal 4 through the new connector? Or will she have to get out of TBIT and walk outside to get to terminal 4? She doesn't really speak English so I'm trying to find out and let her know every step she will have to do in the LAX airport.

Once she clears US Customs she will be outside security. It is faster and easier for her to walk outside to T4 than to re-enter security through the TBIT and then use the connector.

Oh I got it, thank you! Can you pleas make it clear for me once she is outside of TBIT she needs to go left and next building should be T4. Does she enter the T4 on the same level or does she need to take an elevator before entering the T4 (I saw confusing video about in on youtube)

Hi, arriving LAX on Copa at 2229 and flying out on Eva at 0100 on same ticket. Can luggage be checked through because of partner airlines? If not, do I have enough time to make the connection? Thanks

Your bags will be tagged through but you will have to claim your bags to go through US customs then recheck them at the recheck desk. You have enough time.

I'm on a United flight MEL-LAX arriving at 6:40am. I want to catch a Virgin America flight at 8:25am to Dallas Love. Would not be on same reservation. Is that cutting it too close? For what it's worth, I checked flight history, and it looks like it has good on-time performance with some flights arriving as early as 6am.

I wouldn't try this with checked baggage.

  • Connecting from international flight to domestic
    Apr 20, 2016
I will be arriving at LAX on a Thursday in August - 14.30 on a Delta flight (operated by Virgin Atlantic) from Heathrow. I am a British Citizen. I want to book an onward flight with Southwestern to Phoenix but don't know whether to book the 5.55 flight or 6.40 flight. Any suggestions on how long it will take to clear security, collect bags, check in and get to terminal? Many Thanks

Neither. You need at least 3 hours to make your connection. So you need something later than the 6:40 flight.

Thanks - I'm glad I asked before booking! Do you think I would make an American Airlines flight at 19.30? Or do I need later still? 20.55 Delta? Many Thanks

    The 19:30 should be OK.

My plane from Tokyo is scheduled to land at 12:00, and my next flight is to Lima at 14:00. Is that enough time for transfer? Both flights are with American Airlines. Thank you.

That's just enough time if everything goes perfectly. Your flight to Lima will be operated by LAN and depart from the International Terminal.

  • Minneapolis to Australia

I arrive at LAX from Minneapolis at 935PM my flight to Australia leaves at 1035pm. I have one complete reservation all the way through. Will I have enough time to make flight. Flying DELTA

Yes, all you have to do in LAX is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Layover and Global Entry interview
    Apr 20, 2016
Hello. My AA flight from AKL to LAX lands 6:30am (T4 or TBI) and the next flight to ORD leaves at 9:40am (from T4). I also scheduled an interview with USBP for Global Entry at 8:00am. From what I have read, the interview takes around 15mins max. Is there enough time for me to make it on the connecting flight at 9:30am? Many thanks!

    That should be enough time.

    Many thanks!

  • 2.20 hrs. From TBIT to terminal 4
    Apr 18, 2016
I will arrive LAX from NRT at 11.40 and will have to catch the domestic flight at 14.03. Would it be possible to make it through the immigation and customs in2.20 hrs? the bags are checked through.

Yes, that should be just enough time. Is your flight to LAX on JAL? Even though your bags will be tagged through you will have to claim them to go through US Customs, then re-check them immediately after at the re-check desk?

Yes, i fly with JAL. Thank you so much.

Hi I am flying Qantas QF 093 from Melbourne and arriving in LAX @ 06:35 terminal B, with our connecting flight to New York JFK is Qantas QF 011 departing @ 08:20 from terminal B. is this enough time and do we go through customs in LA ?

Yes, in LA you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • Term 1 to TBIT
    Apr 17, 2016
I am arriving by Southwest Airlines from PHX at term 1 and then need to go to TBIT to catch my China Southern flight at 22:30hr. Since arrivals are at lower level and departures from upper level how do I get from Term 1 lower level to TBIT upper level?

There are numerous outdoor escalators between the upper level and lower level in front of every terminal. You can either take the shuttle that runs on the lower level, or I suggest you walk.

Arriving LAX at 8:50pm on Delta, departing LAX 11:50pm Virgin Australia, all booked on one ticket, is this sufficient layover time?

Yes, that is enough time. If you already have your Virgin Australia boarding pass you can take the tunnel to T4 and then the new connector to the International Terminal and your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

  • From TBIT to Terminal 4
    Apr 17, 2016
I have a question or two. I'll be arriving with AA from Heathrow at 5.20 pm on may 14th at TBIT and leaving for Las Vegas with AA from terminal 4 at 6.50 pm (thanks AA for changing the departure time!) Do I have to pick up my checked luggage and re-check it again? And do I have to go through security again? It will be the first time I have a connecting flight at LAX.

AA Flights except one from Australia do not arrive in the International Terminal. They arrive in Terminal 4. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and to your departure gate. You barely have enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • Term 2 to Term 5

US citizen arriving into LAX on VS. Continuing to HNL on DL. Not able to check in to DL before leaving London. Re: customs, DL check in, and luggage check in, what is the order of the steps, where do I each one, and how do I get between terminals?

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US CUstoms, then take your bags with you to Terminal 5 (walk to right right as you leave the International Terminal), the second building you come to is T5. You will go inside check your bags with Delta, and go through security.

Its my first time to take LAX for international travel and im very anxious because of the short time to connect to international flight. I have a domestic flight from ABQ-LAX arriving 06:45, I have checked baggage. My next flight would be LAX to PHILIPPINES at 09:30 in TBIA, do i have to go thru security again before i can check my baggage with Cathay Pacific?

I forgot to mention that im flying on April 16 via American Airlines from ABQ-LAX

If the tickets are on two separate reservations you will arrive in the American Eagle remote terminal, take the shuttle to Terminal 4, claim your bags, take your bags to the International Terminal, check them with Cathay and then go through security. If everything is on the same reservation then you don't have to do anything with your bags, you will just take the shuttle to Terminal 4 and then walk through the new connector inside security to your departure gate in the International Terminal.

Thanks for letting me know. It's two separate reservations. Do you think i will make it on time with in the 2 1/2 hr leeway? I checked in online with Cathay Pacific already, i dont know if that helps.

On two separate reservations its just enough time unless you can get AA to check your bags through to Cathay. Otherwise you will have to claim your bags in T4, take them to the TBIT and re-check them with Cathay and go through security.

Do you think its possible that AA can do that? I hope they can even if with extra fee. If not then i need to wear my best sneakers and prepare to run. Is taking the bus better or just walk/run to TBIA?

T4 and the International Terminal are right next to each other, it's much faster to walk than to take the bus.
