Hi! I am arriving at LAX from HK then on to YVR (Vancouver, BC) vis SEA. Do I clear customs in LAX? How long would this take if I arrive at 7:40am? Thanks!

Yes when you arrive in LAX you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through customs and have to recheck your bags then go to your departure terminal and through security. The immigration and customs process takes about an hour.

  • Terminal B to Terminal 7 - how and how long please
    Nov 25, 2015
I just wanted to check please how AND how long it takes approximately to transfer from Terminal B to Terminal 7 (United, Mexico) allowing for security / customs / etc ? Thanks kindly.

I recommend at least 2.5 hours.

  • YVR - LAX - FIJI - can I make it?
    Nov 25, 2015
Landing at LAX from Vancouver on November 29 (Turkey madness time) we have just under 3 hours to get to different terminal and head to Fiji. Is this possible, or are we screwed?

Yes that should be enough time. You will preclear US immigration and customs in Vancouver.

That's plenty of time. I'm not sure if your flight from Vancouver will fly into Bradley international terminal at LAX or into a domestic terminal. You will certainly be flying out of Bradley. It's between terminals 3 and 4 and easily walkable from either of those in 5 minutes. There are airport shuttles that circle around quite frequently. If you get lucky and fly into Bradley, then it should be trivial to connect to your outbound flight. Good luck.

No flights from Vancouver arrive into the Bradley terminal.

  • Do I Have A Long Enough Layover
    Nov 24, 2015
I fly into LAX on Wed. Jan. 6th on United Airlines at 9:40am. I then have a flight with China Southern (heading on the CN) that is scheduled to depart at 11:40am. I have a checked bag from the United flight that I will have to retrieve before heading onto TBIT and going through security there. Is this enough time or do I need to change my flight?

It's enough time if everything goes smoothly but leaves little time to spare if your United flight is delayed.

is this enough time? arriving LAX at 6:20. Departing LAX to HNL at 6:55pm

What airlines are you flying? Are your tickets purchased on the same reservation? I can't answer your question without that information.

    flying Delta; same reservation

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time as long as your first flight arrives on-time.

  • 1h50m from T5 to TBIT on Thanksgiving Wednesday night?
    Dec 1, 2015
Is it possible? Flying SFO-LAX-LIM on separate tickets, arriving in T5 (Delta).. Will there be lot of traffic during that time? 9:30PM-11:30PM Wednesday night before Thanksgiving...

Forgot to mention, they are separate tickets...

You should have enough time. The TBIT probably won't be too crowded that day as Thanksgiving isn't big for International Travel.

I am flying UA to lax arriving 7:22am n going HAwaiian (term 2) leaving 8:35 am need to check in 2 bags is that enough time ??

  • How much time do we need?
    Nov 22, 2015
We have a 58 minute layover Iin LAX on a flight going on to YVR from MIA, all on AA. Will we have enough time?? Is the connecting flight nearby.

Second flight is run my Compass as American Eagle. Do we switch terminals, will effect the 58 minute mad dash.

AA uses Terminal 4, 6, and has a remote terminal. I believe you will have to take the shuttle bus to the remote terminal for your flight to Vancouver. The shuttle is inside security. You have enough time if your flight from Miami is on-time.

  • UA internatl -domestic transit

MEL-LAX-ORD, both on UA; originally booked with 2h 5 min layover, flights now 're-timed' with 1 h 45 layover only. Past experience, several years ago, suggests that this may not be long enough, but I hear TBIT has improved ... ? enough

It's possible. The TBIT has improved quite a bit. Also since you'll be arriving in the morning you'll have a whole day of frequent LAX-ORD flights on United that you can be rebooked on if you miss your connection.

Elderly couple needs to transfer from Terminal 1 to Tom Bradley International Terminal. Cannot walk the distance nor handle luggage themselves even for Airport Connect Shuttle. Is there any service that can assist them?

I'm not aware of such a service. They could try to find a skycap in Terminal 1 to help them get their bags to the shuttle and then another skycap at the International terminal.

  • Do I need to get my bags?
    Nov 20, 2015
I am flying from Vancouver YVR to LAX on Delta, arriving T5. I know I will pre clear customs in Van. Then changing to Aeromexico in T2 for flight to Mexico City and then on to Merida. Do I need to retrieve my bags in LA to transfer T5 to T2? I suspect yes. I have lots of time 3 hr 44 minutes.

If both tickets are on the same reservation then your bags will be tagged through to Merida and you won't have to claim them until you go through Mexican Customs in Mexico City. You will have to go through security in T2.

  • Getting from Amerian terminal to United Terminal
    Nov 19, 2015
My daughter is flying on American into LAX. She is then connecting to a flight on United Express to Monterey. Does she have to go through security again in LAX to from the AA terminal 6 to the United terminal (7 or 8)?

On American she could arrive in Terminal 4 or 6. 4, 5, and 6 are connected inside security by an underground tunnel and then 6 is connected to 7 and 8 inside security by a walkway at the base of the terminal, so she can go from her arrival gate to her departure gate inside security as long as she doesn't have any baggage to transfer between airlines.

  • Southwest to Hawaiian Air - baggage
    Nov 19, 2015
How much time will I need to get my bags at Terminal 1 & take them to Hawaiian Airlines at Terminal 2? I have less than 2 hours to get my bags & take them over to Hawaiian Air to check them in. Is there a quick & easy way to do this?

A little less than 2 hours would be about the minimum. The only way to do it is to claim your bags in Terminal 1, and carry them to Terminal 2 and re-check them. You have no time to spare if your Southwest flight is late.

  • Alaska Airlines from Loreto
    Nov 18, 2015
We arrive from Loreto, Mexico on Alaska Airlines arriving at 3:20 PM and trying to make a 5:55 PM flight (also Alaska Airlines purchased all on one ticket) to Seattle. Will 2:20 be enough time to clear customs and make our flight? We are thinking of changing to the 6:30 PM flight to have less stress.

2:20 should be enough time. Immigration or security lines in Alaska's Terminal 6 usually aren't bad.

  • LAN to United Airlines
    Nov 17, 2015
I will arrive in terminal B (Lan Chile) and my flight connection is in terminal 7 (United Airlines). I wanna know if thereĀ“s any ground transportation between both terminals and how long it will take. I only have 2 hours to make this conecction.

There is a shuttle bus that runs along the lower (arrivals) level. However, it is very slow. If it is at all possible, I recommend walking as it will be faster.
