  • Time for transfers between intentional and domestic flights
    Dec 28, 2015
Hi - I am booked on a Qantas flight arriving in LAX from Sydney @ 6.30am and am wondering if there is enough time to catch a domestic, United Airline flight to Montrose leaving @ 10.50am in the morning? Your help you be most appreciated!

Yes, that should be plenty of time even though you will have to transfer your bags to T7 to recheck them yourself.

Hi. I'm looking at booking a holiday for late 2016 from melbourne Australia to orlando Florida. United has a flight that arrives at lax at 6:40am and then a connecting flight at 8:20am. Being an international arrival, this seems ridiculously tight. I've read that United has their own immigration etc in terminal 7 so I would arrive there and not be through Tbit, is this correct? I looked at some recent arrivals for this flight and they seem to be going to Tbit, so I'm confused - is this due to renovations maybe? No matter which airline I choose, there seems to be extremely tight connections somewhere along the way!

The United flights from Australia arrive in the TBIT because the T7 facility isn't open that early in the morning. That connection is possible but doesn't leave any time to spare if the flight from Melbourne is late. However, note that if you do miss your connection, United would have numerous options to re-route you to Orlando through another one of their hubs.

Ok thankyou! Was so hard to find information! Being that its direct to lax, it was my first choice. I'll take the risk and hope for the best. I have got through in that time before but had a buffer. Thankyou for your quick reply!

  • Auckland to Vancouver via LAX
    Dec 27, 2015
Hi I am wondering if 2 hours is enough time to transfer between international flights from Auckland to Vancouver - Arriving LAX 6:20am American Airlines which I think is Terminal 4 - departing 8:20am Delta Connection Terminal 5

Would that be two separate reservations? If so no, I don't think that's enough time.

I'm looking at flights on and this is what it is suggesting as one reservation for my return flight - inbound American Airlines Flight 82 connecting with Compass Dba Delta Connection Flight 6829 . I'm not an experienced traveller so wondering if it's worth the risk booking this short layover but it's very cheap!

I am considering booking this, travelling with no checked baggage and purposely missing the connecting flight, and booking another later one from LAX to a different destination - because the deal from NZ is so good. Is this a big deal or would it create some kind of problem?

If it is on the same reservation and you have no checked bags it is possible. What country are you a citizen of? You may have some immigration difficulties no showing your international flight where you are supposed to leave the country if you aren't a US Citizen.

New Zealand citizen. It would be another flight out of the US, still to somewhere in Canada or maybe to the UK. I just don't know what the process is at the airport whether the fact I miss the last leg of my flight matters. Any advice appreciated. Thanks for your replies!

Note that you'll have to book on a different airline than Delta if you want to book a second flight that operates at the same time. They have programs to detect if someone is booked on something "impossible" ie two different flights at the same time and will cancel both reservations if they find it.

  • Toronto to Sydney via LAX
    Dec 27, 2015
is 45 minutes enough for international transfer? my flight AA from toronto to LAX, then Sydney. layover is just 45 minutes, is it enough for me to meet the requirements? Landing 21.05 terminal 3 and depart 21.50

You will not arrive in Terminal 3. If you are flying American for both flights (not Qantas codeshare) both flights will be in Terminal 4. If that's the case then you have enough time as all you have to do in LAX is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate (you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto). If your flight to Sydney is a Qantas codeshare than it will be difficult because you will have to walk to the International Terminal and go through security.

Thanks heaps. All my travel with AA, as such your directions seem helpful. I can stop thinking of inquiring of a reschedule.

  • arriving Delta 11:10 am connecting air tahiti nui 3pm

do we have to pick up luggage and reclear security…how long to terminal B from terminal 5

Where are you flying into LAX from? if you purchased two separate reservations you will have to transfer your bags to Air Tahiti Nui yourself. You should have enough time.

  • Connecting from Qantas (domestic JFK-LAX) to Air Tahiti Nui in TBIT?
    Dec 24, 2015
We're connecting from QF12 (JFK-LAX) to an international Air Tahiti Nui flight. We have a 2:30 minute connection, which seems reasonable, but QF12 seems to be chronically late (usually at least an hour), so I'm really worried about missing our onward flight. What is the connection like from Qantas to Air Tahiti Nui in Tom Bradley International Terminal?

If Qantas is able to issue your Air Tahiti Nui boarding pass you can go directly to your departure gate. Otherwise you can get it at the departure gate.

  • Enough time? - T2 to T7
    Dec 24, 2015
Arriving Dec 26 at 11:35 am at T2. Departing 1:00 pm from T7. Any advice? Can I get a sandwich? Best place? Thanks in advance for any help.

That's barely enough time. You'll need to hustle over to T7 and through security. If the security lines are short you could stop and get something to eat but the lines at the few places to eat in T7 are generally quite long, especially around lunchtime.

  • Walk time between terminal 5 and terminal 3
    Dec 23, 2015
Arrive terminal 5 at 8:15 PM and depart terminal 3 at 9:45. Considering how busy the airport is and having to clear security how long does it take to walk and is there time to make this connections

What airline are you flying from Terminal 3? Do you have checked bags?

I have check bag and on carry on. Flying in on Delta Connect and flying out on Virgin Australia

The Virgin Australia check in desk is in Terminal 3 but their flights actually depart from the International Terminal. if your bags are checked through to Australia and you have your Virgin Australia boarding pass you can proceed directly to the International Terminal, through security, and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • If have enough time
    Dec 22, 2015
Arriving on AA 2489 from DFW to LAX today, dec 22. Do have enough time to catch my PAL 103 fight at 910p. Luggages are checked through. I did check in online for PAL and print my boarding pass. Never been to LAX. Not sure of wait times and processes. Help.

AA2489 is currently delayed to arrive at 9:14 PM so you will probably miss your connection. Even if it was on-time it would've been difficult.

  • Arriving at T8 - Flying out of TBIT
    Dec 22, 2015
I am arriving at T8 at 11 AM on Dec 23rd (United) I am flying out of TBIT at 12:50 PM (LAN) United and LAN are partner airlines and I will have my boarding pass. I have no checkin bags. My questions are: Is that enough time to walk from T8-TBIT Do I have to go through airport security again at TBIT? CAn I use my TSA Precheck at the international terminal Do I have to go through immigration I am concerned that is not enough time with the Xmas rush. Thanks Rohan

Yes, that should be enough time. LAN is not a Precheck participating airline so you won't be able to use it in the TBIT.

  • T4 to TB in 2hrs
    Dec 21, 2015
I will be arriving at LAX Terminal 4 at 12:50 on AA and depart from Terminal B at 1500 on Saudi Airlines (2:10 hours) without checked baggage, just carry-on. Is this risky or do-able?

I think that you should have no problem making that as long as your AA flight is on-time and Domestic.

  • terminal 5 to terminal 2 -- 70 minute connection?
    Dec 20, 2015
My family booked a flight to Honolulu through United, but the ticket has us connecting from a Delta flight that lands at 3:55 PM in terminal 5 to a Hawaiian Air flight that leaves at 5:05 PM from terminal 2. I'm assuming that because it's one ticket, our bags will be checked through, but is this enough time for us to make it? Any tips? We will be pushing our 2 year old in a stroller.

You probably have enough time to take the shuttle bus if your Delta flight is on-time. That might be faster with the kid. Otherwise it's fastest to walk straight across the parking garages from T5 to T2.

  • Virgin Australia to Virgin America 2hr connection BNE-LAX-EWR
    Dec 20, 2015
Hello, NZ citizen flying from BNE to EWR via LAX (Mid JAN). Arrive 0630 at TBIT depart 0825 from T3 to EWR on Virgin America. All booked on one ticket via Virgin Australia. I will have 1 checked bag and chose seats as forward as possible on the BNE-LAX leg. I am hoping this is possible as it was a bookable fare what do you think?

    Yes, that should be possible.

  • enough time?
    Dec 18, 2015
we land from Sydney in terminal 1 at 6.25am and fly to Calgary at 8.45 on westjet teminal 2. Is this enough time? Do we have to redo security or are they in a connected terminal?

You do not arrive in Terminal 1. No International flights arrive in Terminal 1. You are probably seeing the letter I which stands for International Terminal. Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. If your bags are tagged through to YYC you will follow the signs for connecting passengers and re-check your bags at the re-check desk. Otherwise you will follow the signs for passengers ending their journey and exit the terminal, walk to your left. The second building you will come to is Terminal 2. You will go inside, check your bags if you didn't already, and then go through security. You barely have enough time.

You will not arrive in Terminal 1. You will arrive in the International Terminal. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, walk to Terminal 2 and go through security. If you are traveling on two separate reservations you will have to bring your bags with you to Terminal 2 to re-check and get your Westjet boarding passes.

  • LAX Connection to Fiji
    Dec 17, 2015
I land on a Qantas flight from JFK at 9:05PM making a connecting flight to Fiji at 11:30PM through Fiji AIrways' codeshare w/ Qantas. Both flights should be in the BIT. I believe I will need to exit to the ticket counter to check in through Fiji Airways then go through security. Is this enough time or am I cutting it close?

    That should be enough time.
