  • Baggage collection?
    Jan 25, 2016
I am flying from Cancun to LAX Terminal B, l then have a connecting flight to Melbourne, Australia. Do l need to collect my baggage and check it in again?

No Cancun to LAX flights arrive in Terminal "B" (The International Terminal). What airlines are you flying??

I just double checked, l land at terminal 7 and leave from terminal 7, with United, does that mean my bags will transfer automatically?

No, you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

Thank you so much, one more question, does that all happen in the same terminal? I have 2 hours between flights, as l haven't travelled extensively l just want to be sure.

Yes, everything will be in the Terminal 6/7 complex (Terminals 6 and 7 share an immigration facility, and Terminals 6, 7, and 8 are all really just different parts of the same building.

  • Terminal connections.
    Jan 25, 2016
Hi, I'm flying from LHR (London) to LAX arriving at 12.55pm. My next flight leaves LAX at 17.00 to HNL. Will I need to change terminals and, also, will I have to claim and re-check my luggage? Thanks.

What airlines are you flying? I can't answer your question without that information.

Hi, LHR to LAX is AA operated by BA and LAX to HNL is AA. Thanks

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, follow signs for connecting passengers, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then exit the International Terminal and walk to your right (with the flow of traffic), the next building you come to will be Terminal 4, go inside, through security and to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

    Thank you very much.

  • Hawaiian Airlines to Southwest
    Jan 25, 2016
Hello, I have a flight that gets into LAX on Hawaiian (Terminal 2) at 6:30 a.m. on a Monday and my next flight leaves on Southwest (Terminal 1) at 7:30 a.m. We aren't checking bags but have to switch terminals. Will this be enough time to get through security for Terminal 1?

It's barely enough time if your Hawaiian flight is on-time and you get off the plane quickly and hurry to Terminal 1. Print out your Southwest boarding passes before you leave Hawaii.

We will print our Southwest passes so we have those and we are towards the front of the plane on Hawaiian. Do you think security will be less busy so early in the morning or more busy with Monday morning travelers.

Security will probably be pretty busy then.

  • Arriving from Syd via Qantas and connect to Vegas via AA Terminal 4
    Jan 25, 2016
How long does it take to go through customs and then catch my AA flight on Terminal 4. How far is Terminal 4 from Tom Bradley Int'l where i land. I have 4 hrs connection, is it sufficient time?

4 hours is plenty of time. Terminal 4 is right next to the International Terminal (to the right as you exit).

  • Aeorflot to Alaska Airlines
    Jan 23, 2016
1 wife is flying into LAX International Terminal D and then she has to go through US Immigration/Check-in and then make a connection flight to Seattle via Alaska Airlines at Terminal 6. My wife will be carrying 3 heavy bags...she's not a big women and may need some assistance. Can she find it at LAX or does she have to hoof it all the way over to Alaska at Terminal 6. English is a slight problem...who can she turn to/who can she trust. Or does Alaska have a check-in at Terminal D where they will take her bags and make sure they send them over to Terminal 6??? Thanks for you help. Kind regards, Michael

She will have to take her bags with her to Terminal 6. Maybe she should pack a foldable luggage cart to move her bags between terminals.

  • Baggage Claim, Connection Flight
    Jan 23, 2016
Hi! I have a flight Paris-LAX-Guatemala City. It is with Air France to LAX and then Delta to Guatemala. It is a new ticket they gave me because of the bad weather in nNYC at the moment. My bags are checked-in to Guatemala but I guess I have to pick them up in LAX and re-check them. How does it works? What is the procedure after my landing in LAX and before I go to Guatemala? Thank you!

Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then follow signs for connecting passengers, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then exit the International Terminal and walk to your right, the second building you come to is Terminal 5, go inside, get your Delta boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security.

  • SYD -SEA via LAX return
    Jan 23, 2016
A lot of SYD-SEA via LAX return flights are giving me a 1.5 hours connection time in LAX to and from Seattle. Coming from Australia is this going to be enough time to get through customs and immigration? I'll be travelling on a kiwi passport. Thank you!

    What airlines are you flying?

    Delta or American Airlines. Thanks

That is just about enough time if everything goes smoothly. Note that all flights from Australia arrive in the International Terminal due to how early in the morning they arrive.

    Awesome, thanks for your help!

  • T1 to T8 details
    Jan 22, 2016
How long should I allow to travel from T1 to T8 in order to make a connecting flight?

2 hours without checked bags, 3 hours with checked bags.

  • Changing United to American - have to go through security?
    Jan 21, 2016
Hi! I found a cheap itinerary to fly in and out of Santa Barbara airport to my destination in Florida but the flights between SBA and LAX are on United while all the others are on American Airlines. So I'd fly United to LAX and then change to an American flight. Does anyone know if that means I have to go in and out of security? I've had to do that a few times at LAX because of connecting to international flights, but I'm not sure if I would have to go out of security and back through to change terminals in this case. Thanks for your help!

If you don't have checked bags or if your checked bags are checked through to Florida then you don't have to exit security, it's just a bit of a complex walk - you will arrive in Terminal 8 and depart from Terminal 4 or 6. They are all connected inside security. If you need to get to terminal 4 you actually have to walk down the concourse for Terminal 6 and then take a pedestrian tunnel to terminal 5 and then to terminal 4.

    Thank you!!

  • Do all Delta flights at LAX use Terminal 5?
    Jan 21, 2016
Delta listed yesterday's flight 2598 as departing from Terminal 5 Gate 68B, which seems impossible.

Check in for all flights is in Terminal 5. However, some flights use gates in Terminal 6. Terminal 5 and 6 are connected inside security by a tunnel.

  • Connection this possible?
    Jan 20, 2016
I am flying from Honolulu to LAX on US 1231 at 3:38pm and my next flight on UA 1960 leaves at 4:15pm. This is only a 37 minute layover! Is there enough time to change planes and catch my second flight?

Are both flights on United? If so then yes, that is enough time if the first flight arrives on-time. All United gates are connected in Terminals 7 and 8.

  • Terminal 1 to TBIT
    Jan 20, 2016
Hi I have a Southwest flight arriving at T1 at 10:45am with checked bags. I have a China Southern flight that will be leaving at 12:40pm from TBIT. Does TBIT have a dedicated PreCheck line to go through security? Is it Doable? How? Thanks.

The TBIT does not have a precheck lane because none of the airlines there participate in Precheck. This will be very difficult and depends on your Southwest flight arriving on-time and your bags coming out quickly.

Thank you. What if I change my flight arriving T1 at 9:30a instead of 10:45a. Will it be more doable and not rushing?

Yes, that would be much better.

  • Connecting terminals
    Jan 19, 2016
Hello , I have a flight from oak-lax that arrives at terminal 2 at 11:25pm and then I have a flight from lax-mex terminal 3 at 12:30 am will this be enough time ? I only have a carry on bag

No flights from Oakland arrive in Terminal 2 and no flights to Mexico City depart from Terminal 3. What airlines are you flying?

    Oak-lax spirit airlines , lax-mex volaris

You will arrive in Terminal 3 and depart from Terminal 2. You have just enough time as long as your Spirit flight arrives on-time.

  • SFO to LAX to PVG
    Jan 19, 2016
I have the following connection. Anyone think I will have issue for catch the connection? AA 5971 SFO-> LAX arrive at LAX at 9:42AM at T4 AA 183 LAX->PVG(Shanghai) depart at 11:30 from T4 or TBIT Thanks.

You will arrive in the T4 Remote terminal and depart from T4. All you have to do is take the shuttle from the remote terminal to the main part of the terminal. You should have plenty of time if your flight from SFO is on-time.

  • Enough Time From Terminal 7 to Terminal 2
    Jan 19, 2016
Flying from Chicago to LAX. Arriving United in Terminal 7 & connecting to Hawaiian Terminal 2 on the same ticket. I have 1 hr 40 min layover. Would it be better to walk or take shuttle time wise? The best route if I walk? And finally does this seem like it is enough time? Thank you.

It's fastest to walk. You can walk straight across the parking garages from 7 to 2. You should have enough time.
